Yeah, the fact Semin's agent has come out and said he'll be playing in the NHL, is a sign he isn't a runner for the KHL like a few others in the past. This is one of the biggest reasons I brought him up last week. And from the sounds of it, most Sens fans have had somewhat of a change of heart in regards to a possible Semin signing. It's good, because the kid has a butt load of talent and he would be that true 1st line Winger we've been after.

Ill challenge you on that last part about golf. I fyou follow golf this year you would know that there has been more playoffs than any other year. Only Tiger Woods, Hunter mahan and Jason Dufner are multi-winners on the circuit this year and that any given week, anyone could win such as Ted Potter Jr winning this week. Who? Exactly haha Anyways, it certainly is boring time of year, but more the reason to go out and get active to make up for all the beer consumption done during sens season lol

Come on Chirp, new post hopefully with something JUIIIIICY!! Such a boring time of year to be a sports fan. Baseball...yeah I will pass unless it is maybe the World Series, and even then i am usually wanting to rip my eyes out after game one. Nascar...hmmm driving a car around....you know what that sounds fun, why don't I just jump into my car and actually do it! CFL...IS there ringette on tv?? That would be more enjoyable, or maybe a grass growing channel? Golf is alright...but really highlights are enough/maybe the final day of the tournament if there are 4 or 5 guys really close together, but that rarely happens anymore.

I have actually somewhat opened up to the idea of Semin...I still would be absolutely ecstatic if we found a way to weasel E Kane out of Winnipeg, I know it would be expensive but the kid is bloody 20 so we have him locked up! Ryan sorta does scare me due to the UFA status in 3 years, it would really be a shame to end up without a bunch of our prospects and Ryan if he so decides to move on. And Nash....Ohhh Nash, you would have been an instant favorite here....now I genuinely hope you rot in Columbus. Any rumored deals I have heard aren't even close to as good as what we were rumored to have offered. I hope Howson just waves his finger at him and says play. Bwahahahaha I suddenly like Winchester a tonne more jesse winchester ‏@jwinch18 Alice Cooper wore my jersey at his concert??? City Must be sold out of karlssons #rockstar

Please don't go back to the 'Russian factor' it's ridiculous and you can't say he shouldnt come to Ottawa because of his country. Volchenkov is russian and he turned out great when he was with us. Gonchar and kovalev were past their prime where as semin is 28 and is has one of the best shots in the league. He would look great with spezza And he clearly wants to work and play in te nhl as he could have easily went to russia but has said time and time again he wants to stay here.At least have a good reason for not wanting him but I think the lazy think is more media driven and not entirely true to be honest. But his desire to be successful will pay off and he would do great in maclean's system. He would get more playing time and provides more offensively and if there are injuries or rookies dot have a hard time adjusting then we wouldn't be screwed as he can still produce goals. We would have a solid top 6 and still have our prospects, I say go for it! If BM can work the right terms/price of course but to get him would be great. Not the end of the world if we don't but an upgrade if we do and plus not losing prospects That is all :)

I hate it how people can just say that someone is automatically a certain way, just because others of the same ethnicity act a certain way. Alexander Semin is a damn good player, and just because he's Russian doesn't mean shit. He was playing under a coach that isn't suited at all for the NHL, and the captain of the team was his buddy. Under Paul Maclean with Alfie and Neil in the dressing room, things will be a lot different. But stop this "he's Russian" bullshit talk. We had a guy named Anton Volchenkov who is Russian, and was an absolute stud for us.

I apologize to keep bringing up Nash but you mean to tell me that whoever the hell was in play to go to Columbus was pretty much set with Howson not knowing whether he'd profit in the trade, still agreeing to pull the trigger and all that was preventing the trade from happening was Nash refusing to waive the no trade? You mean we could've gotten him had Nash just thought of playing on the first line with a playmaking centre, an awesome captain, an offensive monster defenseman who just won the Norris and a plethora of prospects and a team about to sky rocket into the future? I wish he'd speak for the first time in ages. Just come out and say it. Is it a boring city to live in? Can you not handle the media? Is it not as glamorous as Brampton? What is it? Pressure in general just to be playing in Canada? The guy has so much damn support it's not even funny. I hope come September, Howson's price is still to the roof with all the teams dropping out of the bid so that Nash either accepts the trade, remains in Columbus while being miserable for the rest of his hockey career or settles playing in Europe. I still can't get over how pampered he would've been here. What does he need to reflect about?

I'm in the sign Semin camp as well. As long as the deal is fairly reasonable. He has the ability to be a top 3 forward on almost any team in the NHL, score 40 goals, and he plays both ends of the ice a lot harder than anyone gives him credit for. He was one of the capitals best players in the post-season. I say go for it. As far as talents go, a player of his skill and all around ability is rarely available without a high draft pick going the other way.

Put in the group that is a big advocate for Alexander Semin as a Senator. I really believe Semin would absolutely flourish playing under a coach like Paul Maclean with Spezza and Michalek. And the deal would be the most sensible approach to finding that other top 6 forward, as the trade route would undoubtedly cost us some good young players [i.e. for Ryan], that I don't think the Sens are ready to part with. I'm all for it. All we have is money we need to spend to get to the cap floor, for one of the best snipers in the league.

geez, semin's offer from the KHL has bumped up to 3years 30million. that is more than radulov's 9.2mill per. yet semin still stays strong saying he wants to be in the NHL. Hate that the longer this thing goes, the more it convinces me that we should take a stab at him... hated when we played against him because he always seemed to score even when hed be on a huge drought, hed end it on us. but i guess he will probably go to one of wings jeresy or pens. gonchar is one of the most respected vets arround the league or one of most respected russians atleast, im sure he can straighten out semin if he did end up here.

lines are based on match ups, yes you can say zib and silf are better prospects but having stone on the top line shouldn't suggest hes much better, it should only suggest that he would work better on the top line with spezza, of course that could be wrong but like i said it will all be figured out through tryouts. but to say that something is never gonna happen this coming season is ridiculous cuz news flash guy...you don't know shit along with the rest of us, we can only speculate cuz i don't know about you but im not sitting next to maclean making decisions. i also don't get how people say things without backing..so sir why do you think stone has no chance to play along side spezza sometime this coming season? enlighten me

As much as I like Stone no he is not going to make the team out of camp right away. The reason is because of his skating. He would develop so much better by getting games in the AHL getting use to the pro speed and try and figure out that since he does not have that above average skating ability, he needs to play his game to an advantage. Something like Karlsson he is not a big body but plays defense by directing bodies away from the net and using a fast stick to strip the puck from players. Stone has to figure out that before he is a top 6 forward in Ottawa probably. So a year in the AHL would do him wonders I think, but Silfverberg is the most ready then Zibby then Stone for forwards.

Hahahah I love this post I would + it 100 times, not when they might get injured but when they do...as it is inevitable. Sandy, we may not agree on everything(I am also the guy pretty often arguing the same things on RSU) but this post here, I could not agree with more. I admit, I am VERY impressed with how much he has improved in this regard...if this season he improves an equal amount it will be unreal and make him essentially equal to another late 1st round pick/2nd....as his skating was really his only glaring knock against him(But a big one when you can't keep up in the NHL most people will Locke you in the minors)

You can't see a possibility where they choose to play Zibanejad at Centre (meaning 3rd line), and Silfverberg on the 2nd line with Turis and Alfredsson? suspect if Zibby plays center it means we have at least 3 injured centers. Even if this were to occur...I don't see any possibility that Silfverburg ends up on a lower line than Stone. I genuinely believe Silfverburg will have established himself as the top of the 3 by about the 15 game mark. Who are you proposing is playing ahead of him on Line 1? Moe also said it correctly, I have absolutely no problem or dislike of Stone, I just see just about no situation where he passes both Silfverburg/Zib anejad on the depth chart by next season....beyon d him becoming a cyborg or some other crazy shit that isn't going to happen. Will he ever get to top 6...I hope so(I am not as convinced yet as everyone) but for mostly his sake(and to a lesser degree our teams) I would be absolutely ecstatic if in a year or two he is an equal and we essentially get to play an actual Line 1a Line 1b Line 3 Line 4

I think the misunderstandin g here is people think I (and i assume Tcharger and any one else that agrees with us) hate stone. which is completely incorrect. I like silfv zibby and stone equally. I want all of them to be the most succefull top line players. At the end of the day i dont think id even care that much which of the 3 ends up having the best career. But be real. Silfver is much older and more developed and looking at his skill, should have been a 1st rounder. Zibby, drafted 6th. no matter how you put it, he has the advantage due to being highly touted by all NHL scouts not just us sens fans. Stone falls after these 2. thats all there is to it.

stone will start in bingo. Im not convinced why zib would start in bingo. Last year he did look a bit lost and not ready, although PM really liked him. I think zib does start the year here but will get a ~10game bingo stint by november. and by the way, you missed out smith in your line up. OMG I did... I like Smith.. how dare I omit him.. Substitute Smith for Regin on line 3 and move Regin up with Spezza. Hey it worked in the playoffs a couple of years ago... why not try it again?

just going back to a topic some spoke about in the last thread about who will play the point on our powerplay. last year it was a mix of karlsson kuba gonchar + gilroy/phillips /carkner now that kuba is gone, i think it means cowen is going to get a lot more PP time. Methot is known to lack offence and for that reason i hope he doesnt play the point on the PP and rather just conserves his energy for PK and heavy shifts. Giving cowen more PP time would only give him confidence. Although now the problem once again would be karlsson being the only right handed shooter on the PP unless we place a forward with a big slapper to his left(alfie, silfver etc.) If i were able to set up the PP. i would do the "umbrella" setup. karlsson being the only man in the middle of the point. feeding one timers to the guy on the left slot or right. left side id hope to see zibanejad/silfv er/alfie firing those stamkos one timers. and on the right side, either a left handed shooter or spezza (who can feed one timers to karlsson). I think we all rememeber what it looks like when spezza wires a slapper from the right side of the ice over the goalies shoulder. and you can either have 2 guys parked on the side of the net causing havoc trying to get the dirty goals, job for latendresse/mic halek/greening. or just 1 man right in front of the net and the other behind the net to help cycle the puck arround quickly. this would take someone with puck skill and vision preferably spezz or turris.

I loved Foligno and I think he is a hell of a player and hard to play against. He is a top 6 forward and took strides in that this year. I think he became expendable for Methot for 2 reasons: 1. We needed a top 4 defenseman 2. We needed to make some room in the top 9 for 1 or 2 of Zibenajed, Silfverberg and Stone. All three of those guys can play in our top 6 next season so with Foligno now gone, we can give probably 2 of them a shot in the top 6 Silfverberg-Spe zza-Michalek Stone-Turris-Al fredsson Neil-Zibenanjed -Regin Greening-Smith- O'Brien Daugavins-Condr a-Butler we have 3 extra forwards once everybody is resigned. I am confident they can get O'Brien on a 2 way deal for 1 year, Daugavins will get a 1 way. I think Butler is traded or included in a package for draft picks as we need to cut down a forward or 2. Ah crap forgot about latendresse lol

One day i like condra, and the next day its the complete opposite. Just because he has all the smarts to be an impact player on the bottom 6 but lacks a ton of finishing ability. reminds me a bit of chris kelly earlier in his career. so it depends who he is battling with for a spot. If its between him and butler. id take condra. other than that, i think greening and JOB and potentially winchester are more usefull. I think i would also prefer daug over condra just for his character and slightly better offence. although condra is better defensively and much better with injuries *knock on wood*. Its a tough argument i pretty much agree with most of the stuff you said, but theres something about condra's hustle and determination to get to that puck (especially on the pk), that i think puts him ahead of some of the players u mentioned. his timing to intercept pucks on the pk is insane

I would almost be willing to put money that that will be are opening day top 6. Only real hickup is the double LW on the top line...although I am fairly certain I have seen Michalek play pretty much as effective from both sides. @ Tcharger, Michalek played on RW, even though he shoots left, for most of last season. Greening - Spezza - Michalek ! Defense pairings might be : Methot - Karlsson Cowen - Gonchar Phillips - Lundin Both Cowen and Methot shoot left !

Idk about anyone else, but I wanna hear ur opinions on condra I've always liked him and even though he's not a goal scorer, he was a very important penalty killer for us last year, probably our best defensive forward, and I think he deserves a spot on this team for long, I mean like he had like 40 breakaways on the penalty kill Anybody else agree with what I'm saying?

i am personally a big fan of JOB and it seemed like PM really is too. Im convinced hes the type that will take over the 4th line center for a very long time. as for butler.. not so much a fan of. Im still trying to stay optimistic and tell my self that this past season was just a huge sophmore slump for him, but he is too 1way to be useful. Hes either playing in the top 6 scoring goals or doing nothing. His value right now is also crap, not too sure how we can move him. edit: by the way a 4th line of daugavins condra butler makes no sense, 3 small guys. none of which are centers. its either smith or JOB re-edit. i didnt realise that was your "5th line" indicating that those are the extras...ignore what i said.

The 3rd goal for him in the playoffs shows us he can skate so that is good, he poked the puck past the defenseman and was gone same with playoff goal 7

Jeff Freisen said that they were the best team he's ever played against including previous stanley cup champion teams. Redden, Chara, Volchenkov, Phillips top 4 D Alfredsson, Spezza, Havlat, Hossa, Bonk, Arvedson, Schaeffer, White, Smolinksi, Neil Lalime That was our year to win the cup. Fuck.
It's natural for us to dwell on Folignos faults because he has left. It's natural for us to big up Methot's positives. That's what happens, therefore it's natural for CBJ fans to downplay what Methot brought to their team. I'm going to take the radical step of waiting until I've seen Methot play 10-15 games for the Sens before making my first judgement.

Andersson played phenomenal for us last year, stole games and everything you would want in a goalie, coming off of years of leclaire elliott who were not getting it done. I am not saying Lehner Bishop could not get it done but why screw with success. we need Anderson salary to boot. If Anderson had to go in a trade for Weber I would take the risk of Lehner Bishop Karlsson Weber Cowan Methot Phillips Gonchar Lundin Lehner Bishop I could live with that

Tired of people not giving Methot enough of a chance/credit. You will not regret adding him. Oh, I'm fairly certain Methot is getting his tires pumped in Ottawa quite sufficiently these days... The Sens had been after Methot for some time. So were the Oilers. He fills a void on defense. The Sens had too many forwards (still due). We all knew Murray was going to go the trade route for defense. I did not like to see Foligno go. He played so hard but was inconsistent.. but that can be said of many players in the NHL. How about we give Methot a chance before throwing him under the bus. He is very happy to be in Ottawa.. let's embrace that for now. Some pretty good youtube videos of Methot hits... Interesting tidbit from an interview Lundin did on the Team last week. His roommate in his senior year in University was Ben Bishop..
