Yeah the same scouts that drafted Wiercioch (2nd), Bashkirov (2nd), Puempel (1st) and Jim O'Brien (1st)... Kinda does make you wonder....about your integrity. verdict still out on puemple and he is a pure scorer, ya O'brien was a bust but the rest weren't 1st round picks...talk about integrity Puempel was hurt a good chunk of the season. I would not consider this year to be a good determination of his skill level. Anyone remember Cowen the year he was drafted? He was pretty much benched (he rode the pine) throughout the entire WJC.

But it's TIM Murray.. Wouldn't an announcement like that come from Bryan? I don't think the Sens would tell Brennan WHO they offered. Remember the backlash for the Oilers mentioned in the Heatley trade. I don't think Murray would be very happy with Brennan doing that.. But then again Brennan is classless. Oh and by the way.. Patrick Kane is a great hockey player.. but I would not touch him with a 10 ft pool. Heading for re-hab.. that kid has issues. Now I don't blame a young, single, good-looking hockey player to enjoy himself in the off-season.. most of them do... but they don't get themselves constantly in trouble... Sandy, I don't think it's a big issue as this offer and those player names were already out there. Everyone knows who the likely players going back to Columbus are at this point aside from whether it's Lehner or Bishop (likely) in the end. Do you think the 1 or 2 extra prospects mentioned might be something to do with Bishop going and not Lehner? I think the 1-2 extra prospects would just be Columbus' asking price that won't be met. Hopefully at least, losing 5+ significant players/prospec ts for 1 really starts being in the "too expensive" category. I have to think the extra pieces going would mean there are some extra pieces coming back.

I wouldn't include both Lehner and Zibby. If they want Zibby then they take Bishop. If they take Lehner they have to take a lesser forward prospect than Zibby. Good thinking. Though the only thing that might impact it (that none of us could possibly know) is if Lehner has a legit attitude problem. i.e. one that goes beyond just having an ego (which most stars do). If Murray's people tell him that Lehner's not worth the aggravation or that his attitude is getting in the way of him reaching his potential, then obviously we can part with him. Disclaimer: Outside of the odd rumor I have no reason to believe he has an attitude problem or even feels under appreciated by the org. So it's likely a big non-issue. Just saying that if there's any truth to it then that might impact the decision on which goalie we're willing to move.

Said this on Twitter but I feel like the Ryan deal has to be more quality for quality. Columbus seems a little more interested in taking younger players. Bobby Ryan would be easier for us to get Milan Michalek, 1st round pick and Nick Foligno would probably do it for Bobby Ryan or something very close to that. Ducks know they could use younger forwards with Blake Hagman Selanne ect. So Foligno and Michalek would be good additions to their team as both are top 6 forwards.

Ya know I initially thought along the same lines this morning but read through this thread..Nash isn't some gristled old man. This would amplify the rebuild. He's never payed with the skill, potential Ottawa has. Even just with Spezza, EK and Alfie alone. And he's 28...probably a solid 7 years left. IMAGINE how much better he'd make Spezza, EK, MM9, etc. Can you say any of those potential players going the other way WILL have the same impact?. Maybe...but only maybe. I, goiter one, was tidied about the Runblad deal..that it's until Turris had a few games under his belt. Suddenly I was shoot less worried about Zib working out as a#2 center. Now tell me who our bonified 1st line power forward will be in the next 5 years? Nash could potentially catalyse this team into a beast. EK and Spez especially!

I can't believe how busy this site is today. It's awesome Chirp. Now I got through the first 150 comments and I had to skip the rest. If the rumored deal for Nash is Bishop, Zibby, Foligno, 2012 1st rounder and Weircioch, I would be very happy with that as a fan. It would hurt to give up Mika, since he's such an exciting prospect, and Foligno is a heart and soul type guy, but the rest of the package doesn't hurt so much. I would be very reluctant to trade Lehner though. I have extremely high hopes for him. Nash makes us a better team instantaneously . Combine the addition of Nash to Spezza, Michalek, Turris, Alfie, MR Norris himself Erik Karlsson, and a goaltending tandem of Andy and Lehner, as well as an up and coming shut down dman with Cowen, and one of the most well stocked prospect cupboards in the league, and Ottawa suddenly becomes a very attractive place for free agents or potential trade targets to want to come to. One thing I do have to say is trading for Nash only makes sense if we can add 2 good top four defenseman as well, whether it be Hjalmarsson or a free agent, our blueline needs major work if we want to compete for Lord Stanley.

But it's TIM Murray.. Wouldn't an announcement like that come from Bryan? We all know the Sens have too many forwards right now. They have a lot of good young forward prospects that may be NHL ready in a year or two at once... and no where to put them. It seems logically that one or two forwards are in a package for someone... Its Tim Murray cause Bryan is in the air flying back from Vegas to Pitt ..

Passing this along I just heard on EDM radio (Jason Gregor from 1260) who are in Pittsburgh that the rumor right now amongst GM's, scouts, and NHL personnel is that OTT is one of the leading candidate to land Nash. Said the rumors are saying that the players mentioned down in Pit is: One of the Sens young goalies (Lehner/Bishop) Zibanajed 1st rd pick 2012 Foligno and 1 or 2 prospects (didn't mention which ones) Now I'm assuming you guys won't like it and will say that is an overpay but I'm just telling you what I heard.
Can't wait to hear what Murray has to say today. This doesn't mean Nash is coming to Ottawa, but it does look like they don't plan on him being around very long. On the Blue Jackets website main page, it has a Draft Day party going on June 22nd. It mentions meeting Atkinson, Umberger and Wisniewski if you attend. Now if you really wanted fans to attend, wouldn't you want to have your current star and captain Nash in attendance? I know, now I'm reaching!!!

I don't ever read the rumours because I already know what they are going to say. Good player X may be moved sometime. Likely to happen before death. Toronto interested. Heard from a source that a player will be moved from a team to a team, maybe as soon as last tuesday. Of course anything can happen unless nothing does. Eklund and his rumours are crap, but some of the blogs are worth reading. Even Yost's once in a while.

Can you guys imagine the conference call between Sens brass and Alfie? In one room you've got Murray, Dorion and Melynk. On the other end is Alfie. "Daniel,as you know we just signed EK65 to a new 7 year deal. He's also just won the Norris. We've got a healthy and fit centerman to also feed you pucks on the 2nd line in Turris. We've got a goalie tandem (no matter who gets shipped)that is impressive. Also, we have one of the top producing centermen in the league. We think you should stay for another year, try and win a cup. Don't forget how great our coach is, and some solid, hockey smart prospects coming down the tube....oh - wait, what's that Scott Howsen? You agree?...Okaay. ... ... ... Oh and Daniel, we're going to try and get your name on Lord Stanley's Cup. We've just landed Rick Nash...Should we start ironing your jersys?" UGhhhhhhhhh that would be amazing to be a fly on the wall during that conversaion.... and that we could actually pull something like that off. Honestly - we land a big FA or a piece to the puzzle via trade -you think Alfie wants to retire? Rick Nash is Hugo, Louie, Fenix and William's new babysitter?

Yeah the same scouts that drafted Wiercioch (2nd), Bashkirov (2nd), Puempel (1st) and Jim O'Brien (1st)... Kinda does make you wonder....about your integrity. Puempel had comparable numbers to Nash in his draft year for a much worse team (during draft year) and yet you write him off. He is a really good hockey player and you will see it next year. Wiercoch will be on the sens at some point next year and jim obrien played for the sens this year. Busts are people who don't make it - not people who have a bad year or two... in your logic Turris was a bust too?

Everyone can say what they will about our prospects, how much is too expensive to give up and all of that... But at the end of the day we have such a surplus, especially at forward, that it's a no-brainer to flip a couple of them into something greater. Question is who and how many and for what. I also heard today that Parenteau is 100% heading to free agency as I expected months ago. So there is another possible piece of the puzzle. We wanna gun it for this year, make it Alfie's last stand then... Nash or Ryan + Hjalmarsson + Parenteau would be a pretty f**king good start! See how the D pans out and maybe do a deadline deal if we are strongly in contention. *thrash*

At first i tough Nash would be a possible acquisition but after thinking about medium to long term cap situations, past trades for similar players, and actual needs this team needs, i just don't think it is going to happen. -From a cap perspective i simply don't see the Sens spending $7.8 per year for the next 6 years when that money can be spent on 2 or more good players (whether it is by trade or free agency). -In terms of needs, we need a defensive prospect or, better yet, player because we lack D prospects in the system and have no mobility on the back end with the obvious exception of EK and maybe Cowen. -There is no question we could use a top 6 forward but if, i repeat IF, we are willing to give up prospects and picks of the stature being reported or rumored, why would we not get a quality defenceman which is what we truly need? -Between Silverberg, Prince, Noesen, Pumpel, Stone, Jean Gabriel Pageau, and Zibanejad the organization could easily choose to wait and see who can fill that top 6 need in as soon as next season possibly. -if you look at clubs which signed players of Nash's status over the past years such as Kovalchuck (NJ), Jeff Carter (CLB), Bryzgalov (PHI), Luongo (VAN), Vanek (BUF), etc, most of these contracts are ones these clubs would LOVE to get rid of and for a reason; they're too risky. -If Murray decides to make a trade for a forward, which i personally doubt, why would he take 28 year old Nash at $7.8 for the next 6 years over 25 year old Ryan who makes $5.1 over the next 3 years? Better yet why would he even sign Ryan who might test free agency in 3 years? If we are looking at previous moves made by Murray it would accurate to say that he will probably make a move no one even thought of; (Rundblad for Turris), (our 16th pick for Rundblad), (the filatov trade), etc, and i truly hope he goes for a D man instead of a forward.

Haven't been on here since the Awards.. so congrats to Karlsson & Alfie. Poor Karlsson looked like a deer in the headlights last night. He said he was very nervous going into the awards. He said he hoped he had a good speech as he can't remember what he said. Ottawa Citizen said that he was quite overwhelmed backstage during interviews and was fighting back tears. Shawn Simpson has been going on for weeks about trading Lehner. Reasons: Walsmley knows Bishop. You wouldn't trade a player a few months after trading for him. Well the Sens were not going to give up a 2nd round pick for a player for only about 3 mos. The 1 yr was a protection for the Sens.. They won't be trading a 22 yr old Turris or a 21 yr old Cowen.. That would be just plain stupid. Philly's offer -- JVR (can't stay healthy), Bobrovosky (sp?), Read, their 2012 1st. Sens offer - Foligno (not as good as JVR but is healthy), Bishop is as good as Bobrovky, Read... the better offer than the Sens, Philly's #1 is lower than the Sens #1... so they are pretty close.. I would like them to get Nash if it means Bishop and not Lehner... He is a LW which the Sens need and would be great with Spezza... and would put old Burkie into a panic mode to make a stupid mistake... Hjarlmsson would be good to get as well... but boy I would hate to see Smith go. I see the need for the D... but Zack brings a little bit of everything. Bob MacKenzie is reporting that Anaheim wants building blocks for Ryan ... not salary..

What I'm saying is that they're not looking to get rid of him like some GMs look to get rid of players other GMs picked before they took over. They may be more than willing to part with him if needs be (i.e. option 1) but that's different. And to your point, yes if they were incredibly stoked about him being some sort of steal pick (like they might be with Noesen) then you're right they wouldn't be including him.

How can you label a 21 year old Wiercoch as a bust? Especially since he will make the Sens lineup next season. (you heard it hear first). I play hockey at the Sensplex at lunch and have seen Wiercoch and Turris out everyday with Randy Lee training. They are in it to win it next season.
