At least Auld got some time in last night and did ok. I sure hope we give Anderson a decent break. Next Wednesday is our second game of a back-to-back before the team gets 4 days off. I say start Auld that second game against Florida. Should be a good break for the whole team... can't come soon enough.

You heard wrong. He's been out since Dec 22, 2011, he's played in 3 games since: Jan 10, 2012 Jan 24, 2012 Feb 4, 2012 He has 2pts in those 3 games and a total of 8pts in 16 games played, out of a total of 45 games. He's missed quite alot and evident by his 3 games in the last 20 or so, he's still suffering from concussion symptoms. so.....how can he be concussed so badly since the 22nd of december 2011 and play in the WJC from Dec 26 2011 to Jan 5 2012 AND SCORE THE WINNING GOAL? so if you are to be believed he played 6 games for sweden in the WJC while scoring 5 points..if he can do this while being concussed, then I put my vote in for him starting with the Senators NOW. dude you are seriously bonkers. I knew that was way too long of a stretch, thx for pointing that out. Since Jan 10, he's played in 3 games, there ya go. Not much diff if you ask me. The fact is he suffered a consussion and is still feelings effects from it. Lol. The fact that as an 18 year old he has 2 points out of 3 games in the Swedish Elite league after scoring WJC winner is already a good indication of his development. If you go on Djurgarden Hockey club site, Zibanejad is fourth on the team in points per game. Also to object to your statement on his concussion symptoms obscuring his playing ability. Last game he scored a goal against Brynas, and that was the first game he played coming out of a concussion.

The Sens need a good defensive prospect this draft... not another forward... We have Zibanejad, Silfverberg, Stone, Prince, Puempel & Noeson coming. Calgary just re-signed Derek Smith to a 2-yr one way contract. He played very well for Ottawa down the stretch last season along with Benoit & Hale.. Mistake on Murray's part not to sign this guy. He's not a top 4 -- but would be better 5th or 6th than what the Sens have now.. Maybe the Sens do fall out of the playoff picture and forces Murray to sell. More picks would help...

I'd like to see Foligno-Spezza- Michalek Greening-Turris -Alfredsson Daugavins-Condr a-Butler Smith-Konopoka- Neil I like this suggestion because it touches an aspect of the lineup I still don't understand. Foligno and Spezza have shown chemistry almost every time they end up together, whether due to line changes or temporary assignment together they consistently create offensive opportunities and pressure. It hasn't happened as much this year, happened a bit earlier on before Turris (now it's mainly on line changes), but there's always been chemistry between those two and no coach has been willing to run with it for more than a couple shifts. Maybe 2 playmakers on the same line isn't what they want, but I've always felt Spezza needs 1 sniper and 1 guy who can score and setup cause Spezza can score too. Add to that the physical and defensive responsibility Foligno brings it just seems like a natural fit despite Foligno's less than ideal sniping ability. Michalek on the other hand is inconsistent with Spezza, sometimes looking like the perfect tandem and others looking like a lost puppy. I'm really glad the coach is giving Butler back to Spezza for at least a bit tonight, but I wouldn't mind seeing: Foligno-Spezza- Butler Michalek-Turris -Alfie Greening-Smith- Neil OBrien/Daug-Kon opka-Condra Give it a few games for some chemistry to develop and see what happens. Just a thought and no I do not expect this to be our answer long term, but more an experiment to try in this year of development.

Not unless Suter signs on the dotted line. He is a UFA in several months... too much to give up. I hate giving up that 1st round pick for anyone. The way the Sens are going.... it could be a high pick once again. Well if were going to nab a D at the draft might aswell try and get Suter, he's young and proven already. Would be much better than a draft pick. Suter seems focused on winning and to do that, he is going to sign with a team that is willing to spend to the cap. He may very well be interested in signing here due to our prospect depth and an owner that will spend the money. If we could land him as a FA we would solidify our D for a long time. I hope Murray has his agent on speed dial on July 1 as he will get offers from at least 10 teams and he will probably take a few days to weigh his options. I also wonder if a combination of our first pick plus a prospect could convince Edmonton to swap picks this year. They have no need for Yakupov or Grigerenko, and Columbus will probably take Grigorenko which would make Yakupov available at #2. I would be willing to swap picks and either Puempel or Noesen plus Wiercoch for the chance to get a true top line winger.

What bullshit? that the Sens suck right now? sure go ahead and call me out on it, there are plenty of others who see it this way aswell, those are facts bud! 7 in a row....either way you put it, it spells SUCK! I was a converted man, the Sens had showed me they could battle through anything, now, in the midst of a 7 game losing streak where we have looked worse than CBJ. I am starting to second guess myself for converting so early. I thought that MacLean couldnt/wouldnt let a prolonged losing streak happen, I thought the Sens were better than that, I thought they had a great attitude and as a team wouldnt let terrible play creep in for pronlonged streaks. I guess they have proved me wrong again. Either way, Iw asnt looking much to this year anyways, wherever we finish, I would prefer dead last if were not in the playoffs, this settling for 8th 9th spot is the way of the Leafs. I'm looking forward to next season. Sounds great Tooks! So, can we expect to hear from you next season then?

Even "the great one" had a far less than 50% scoring average on break aways. Shoot outs are usually the best players and they score less than 50% of the time. As a goalie parent even I know that the advantage is in favor of the goalie in a breakaway, you don't have the option to pass. Why to coaches tell young defencemen to leave the puck carrier to the goalie in a two on one? Because they have a better chance at stopping a singe shooter. Fact is that Turris is a great player, he just got stopped by a hot goalie. EEEEEEEEYORE !

As for why the Sens are in a slump right now - they were robbed of some games out west and that has had a mental setback on the entire squad, especially at the level they were playing at. As a former athlete, there's few things more disheartening than to be robbed of a win by things you can't control. MacLean will work his magic and this team will get back on track, just hopefully not too late.

I think there is only a handfull of posters on here that fit that bill. But everything you said above is pretty accurate. I think your bang on about the mental exhaustion from some players. I don't think some of these guys are physically tired as much as they are mentally tired. We don't seem to have that "peak-level" of confidence game-timing that we did when we won all those between from late December to about the San Jose game in mid Jan. If they can find that again...were going to be dangerous. IF....

Gee we were praising him not so long ago.... now the Sens lose most likely 7 in a row.. and it's all Cowen's fault... look who in the hell is his partner! Gonchar has been bad, but nowhere as poor as Cowen. He has been directly responsible for many of the goals against lately, which have been resulting in losses. I think he's looking worse than he should be because of playing with Gonch, but regardless, has been bad. He's not ready at this point imo. I'd roll the dice with BoroCop How many years has Gonchar been in the NHL? Over 1,000 games. How many games has Cowen played -- 53? Point very well proven Sandy... well done!

Another bad start to a game. This team is not playing well, that is very evident. But look at the teams they have lost to: Ana, LA, Pho, Bos, Isles, Leafs, St. Louis. For example - look at Toronto's last 7 games: Isles 2x, Pitts 2x, Ott, Edm, Winn Who has had the harder schedule over that stretch? Based on where this team is in a re-build/re-too l, let's face it - they were not going to win games against LA, Boston or St. Louis. Anaheim & Phoenix were playing great hockey. The Sens have always done poorly on that western road trip & in Phoenix they were back-to-back & the 3rd game in 4 nights. The should have been better against both the Islanders & the Leafs but they were not. There were supposed to be at the bottom of the standings almost the entire season but they sit in 8th. We realized it would take at least 3 yrs before this team could compete with the better teams. We all knew there would be good games & bad games this season, that's what happens during a re-build/re-too l. Nashville is up next. Now if the Sens could not do well against Elliott, Reimer, Nabocov, M Smith they how in hell will they be able to score 1 if any goals against Rinne, the best goalie in the NHL. This streak will hit 8 losses after tomorrow night. Starting Sat and through next week, Sens play Edmonton, Florida, Tampa & Islanders. If they don't win 3 or 4 of those games then they don't belong in the playoffs. Then it is best they head to the bottom instead of finishing 9th. This will prompt Murray to be a seller at the trade deadline for draft picks, which would not be a bad thing as to where this club is now. Maybe Ryan Murray will be an option afterall. I'm not trying to make excuses for them. But you can't deny they have had a tough schedule the last 2 weeks add to that poor play and you have a 7 game losing streak.

Guys I think we all need to lay off the team a bit here. The Sens are exhausted and it's obvious in their play as they are always forcing for the home run pass or play instead of taking what's there and working hard to get it to the net. This is definitely too long a losing streak, but overall the goal of this season is still on point and the players are learning how to deal with good times, bad times and a lack of confidence. These types of situations are not helpful short term, but in the long term every player on this team should be better because of it. And since our goal is the Stanley Cup long term, I think we're right on track! Don't get me wrong, I love this year's team and am disappointed by the recent string of games, but short term pain for long term gain was always the motto this year! GO SENS GO!!!

@Tookie: its ok, i know the 7 game losing streak has forced you to smoke something really strong, hence your completely delusional statements e.g. turris being avg. missing the shot and spezza not being avg. for missing the better shot. then you follow it up by dumping on zibanejad who by far is the most impact player in the sens system right now given his clutch goal against the russians @WJC. somehow Mark Stone is now better than Zibanejad in your mind??? this is just ridiculous, do people remember turris's goal against tim thomas? what do people think spezza would have done given that pass by alfie? he would have passed it back or wired it wide with some funny slap shot. in the end turris and spezza are two different very good players. one is a pure playmaker (spezza) and turris is good at both playmaking and shooting.

Well for 1 Z-Bad is concussed, hasnt played much in SEL, wasnt playing well to begin with, you think he will come over and play top 6 minutes in the NHL no problem? He's Fisher 2.0, he plays a rough style which entices more concussions. And I dont hate Turris I just said he's avg, you think Nash or Spezza, or Alfie miss that chance? I think not. Alfie makes Turris much better than he really is. I heard Z-bad is back, and only missed a few games from the injury... secondly heard he is playing quite well since his OT winner at the WJC... Alfie makes Turris much better than he really is. Yakupov has missed time with a concussion and other injuries this season, I guess he is a write-off as well? Besides, z-bad probably has a neck issue, not a concussion :) and while on the topic of breakaways, why does SPezza pass the puck TWICE on a breakaway vs shoot? The first one he passes to Michaleks backhand, on the goalline no less. Just a ridiculously poor choice. so yeah, Spezza missed two breakaways to Turris'one so I don't buy that. breakaways are a 50/50 shot that will go in when you're hot and don't when you're cold.

as a few have already noted a little perspective is needed. were we as good as when we were almost leading the division...prob aably not are we as bad as we have been playing the last 6 games... probably not This is where one of our leaders all year has to earn his paychec. Paul MacLean now has to figure out what needs to be done to get us out of this funk. As many have noted, biggest problem right now seems to be fatigue, youth, and zero confidence. When confidence is high, post and in, when not... post and out AGAIN! Anderson looks tired, and frustrated, time to give him a break, and bring up Lehner for a little stint. And PLEASE for the love of god, stop blaming the rookies and sophomores, the only reason we are where we are is b/c most of them were playing outstanding. Our PP is horrendous, almost to the point we should take a penalty to play 4 on 4 b/c we have more success... who is in charge or our PP... do something. And for blame... there is plenty to go around with our Vets in Gonchar the so called PP specialist...wh at does he bring? Carkner... bud you are not here for your dynamic speed...drop the freakin gloves, we needed the spark with a pummeling in the second period. And Turris is still our youngest, and one of our brightest forwards he is way above average. PM we believe in you, right this ship asap! Like you did earlier this season

I agree 100%, its like a totally different team than the one the proved me wrong. Where the hustle, wheres the never say die attitude. Last night you could see the look of fatigue on the players faces, Anderson when pulled certainly looked like he didnt give a shit. Spezza, Michalek, Karlsson all look like the drive is gone. The PP are great evidence of that, a chance to get back in the game...no urgency, no quality shots, no puck support, we have the extra man out there and the Blues made it look like it was 5 on 5. For those saying we are setup nicely up front, last night was your "oh shit, maybe not" moment, we couldnt generate anything, if Spezza, Michalek, Karlsson dont play well, nobody else can step up (Condra and Turris missing on easy goals). Thats what I meant when I said we have too many avg players: Condra Greening Turris Foligno The only prospects I see being better than thsoe 4 FW are Silfverberg and possibly Stone and Pageau down the road. The rest like Peterssen, Z-Bad, Da Costa, Sorensen, Prince are gonna be the same or worse as the 4 mentioned above. what earthly basis do you have to suggest Z-bad will only be as good or worse than Condra, Greening or Foligno? why do you think that, I'm genuinely curious? and why the hate for Turris? He and Alfie have been the sens best forwards by a country mile the past 7 games. any breakaway you have a 50/50 shot of scoring, especially against one of the best goalies this season.

Just another brutal display by our Sens. I swear they played amazing for the first half of the season just to get us fans excited enough to vote in 4 players to the All Star game. Now that that has come and gone, so has the desire and drive to win. This has been absolutely painful to watch, and the exciting hockey this team was playing(no matter whether they won or lost) seems to have disappeared. Hopefully Maclean can get back to basics with these guys because this is getting harder and harder to watch with each game. I don't care if they lose, but at least lose trying...and make the loss look good.

I was at the game last Friday against the Islanders and it was a snooze fest compared to last night. The boys were working hard and created many scoring chances but the puck was jumping all over the place? They have been in this shitty situation twice this year and got out of it. I believe this squad will do it again and we'll have a hell of a ride until the end of the season. Should they miss the playoffs, too bad but who can say they didn't enjoy the season and I'm already excited about the next training camp. Go SENS Go

Sens fans are worse than leafs fans. this board is an embarassment. Cowen should never have played in the NHL? Turris is just average because he didnt score on one breakaway? pathetic. Tookie do you really believe that Turris is just average and not good because he didnt score on one breakaway? Gretzky didnt score every time he had a breakaway. Please tell me this is just you doing your "agitate the sens fans when they are down to get a reaction" shtick? And who in Bingo should be up instead of Cowen and would they be able to do any better over the course of a season? the answer is no one. missing the net, passing off the puck on breakaways, mishandling the simplist passes at the point, not shooting when you should, allowing weak goals in the first five minutes are all signs of a team without confidence - basically they look exactly the same as the first few weeks but the sens bounced back. I'm confident this team can bounce back agains and they will be in a dog fight the rest of the way for the 8th spot. this was the best we could have hoped for in October. my only real concern is the goaltending tandem and that our young inexperienced players like COwen, Smith, Daug and even Karlsson look flat out exhausted and there are still 50+ points up for grabs. these guys need a little break in the schedule to get some rest and refocus.

it seems to me that the book is in on the Sens at this point in the season. During this losing streak, I've notice the opposition lining up 5 guys across their blue line knowing that we really only have 2 guys with high end skill capable of skating through it. Once they are in the zone, count the other teams players around our guy with the puck. they are outnumbering sens players and not giving them any space to make something happen. Lastly, after 17 starts in a row, maybe time for a couple games of rest, you just cant let in those soft goals early like that and expect to continue to win. either way the season has offered more excitement and compete than i thought it would, win were in the playoffs, lose we pick up more prospects. works for me.

this is almost an annual ritual for the sens. its only proof that some elements still remain that somehow mysteriously make this team stop giving a shit. hopefully BM can realize both objectives of being a seller and making the playoffs. right now we are matching expectation, only saving grace is 8th spot in east, which now looks flukey

I don't know what's been harder to watch, these past six games or the comments here. Nah just kidding, definitely the games. Everyone should chill. At the end of the day we are still exceeding expectations on the season, and this shit festival we've been putting out there is just evening things off again. Either we will get off the snide soon and back to our winning ways and salvage a playoff spot, or we won't. Either way this is a season of growth and talent assessment, in the good stretches and the bad ones.

Things to keep in mind: 1) The rebuild is FAR from over even if we win the rest of our games. 2) The last time we lost a bunch in a row the team rebounded with some super exciting hockey. 3) If we win too many games our sometimes-wacky owner might decide we should "make a run" - so maybe losing keeps that from happening. 4) Leafs still suck - no matter the standings. 5) It's actually good in a rebuild/learnin g mode for any weakness to be exposed. Painful to watch as a fan - sure. But good in the long run. 6) Lee is still technically hurt or at least he's not listed as an official scratch in the pregame formalities in the building. 7) Turris looks really good even when we lose. 8) (random thought) I'm actually tempted to want Konopka around another year or two - the guy shows so much passion out there and always looks like he's giving 100% every shift. 9) I really wish Carkner would tune someone up just to remind everyone he can. 10) I hope people put aside their Phillips hate for the next two games and honour/respect a guy who's put in 1000 games for this organization and gives everything he has. Sure his play has fallen off but most of those 1000 games are games most D-men would give their left nut to claim as their own (stay at home guys anyway). Let's do it up classy for his 1000th and the ceremony on Saturday.

How fickle you can all be... The team wasn't expected to do anything all year, and by rights they shouldn't be. They go on a big run, over acheiving, and now that they've fallen back to earch most of you are all over them. It's totally irrational and disgusting. Get a hold of yourselves, and learn some perspective. You are behaving like Montreal fans, fairweather fans that think they are entitled to win every year, even though the talent level is simply not there. You complain about Greening/Condra /Butler/etc. being put into roles they are not suited for... Well that should tell you something about this team. And that is they are not ready for the big time quite yet. Patience.

Sound Familiar - Colorado 2010-2011. Oh man this is Crazy - the boys are blowing chunks. Poor Alfie, continues like this will be in Vancouver in a few weeks.
