I think the Leafs have a really tough Feb and Mar overall.. not sure about NJ.. The Pens will finish ahead of the Sens. Getting Letang back for them has made all the difference.. I don't think they have lost a game since he came back. The Sens have a more favorable Feb with most games at home BUT they have to take advantage of that and gain more ground on those teams behind them. I just want the Sens to play good hockey down the stretch and not 'sell the farm' at the deadline for a quick fix. Play to the best of their abilities and finish where they finish. I'm really looking forward to the All-Star weekend... I think Greening or Karlsson has a chance at the fastest skater in the Skills as Greening won the Sens Skills with 13.4 sec while Karlsson has 13.6. The NHL skills last year was won by Grabner at 14.2... not even close.

How's my team doing anyway? Do I need to make any deadline deals?? 4-7-0 so far Definately need some acquisitions. :) The way NHL 12 has set up the online play an outside source of setting up times for games. It has been hard to co-ordinate so far... We have 11 players but never seem to get more than 2 or 3 on at the same time to get some flow going. I think a schedule will be the way to go for next month. It's still fun none the less. :) @tookie. join us... we could use the best ever... :) Ok no worries, I'll check you out tonight, also I'll check out the EASHL site and join the "Chripers", nice!

the way it is shaping up, the Sens have to finish ahead of one of either Toronto Washington/Flor ida New Jersey Winnipeg and Tampa are outside chances but I think it takes a miraculous push from them at this point. Ottawa is now past the worst part of their schedule and are in good enough shape heading down the stretch. I like our chances. this is a young team and the young guys couldn't handle the western road trip and burnt out basically. They will be an energized bunch and will have an opportunity to make a huge statement against the Bruins to close out the road stretch. Considering the leafs have to play a home and home against the pens and the Devils have an incredibly tough stretch of games for two weeks after the ASG, the sens should be able to maintain their position while other teams catch up to their games in hand. Go Sens Go! FYI I am sure everyone saw it but just in case, some last minute all star weekend tickets went on sale a few hours ago. promo code is 2012NHLALLSTAR http://ev9.evenue.net/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/EVExecMacro?evm=prmo&linkID=ottawa&RSRC=&RDAT=&caller=PR

Because your comments sound EXACTLY like something a Leaf fan would say... This team went in January so far 8-4-1. When we were discussing the January schedule on this site in late December, we were wondering how they would even win 2 games -- and they won 8. They have 30 games left. If they even go .500 over that period, it gets them 90 pts.... by the way 93 pts was 8th place last season. So they will be close and most likely will not remain tied for 5th. But they finish where they finish... they have had a very good season overall.. and this team thumbed their noses at all of the so-called experts that picked them to finish deadlast in the league. Last season Sens ended with 32 wins... so far they have 27... so a much better season.. with a younger and less experienced team.

I imagine the Sens will most certainly take a crack at Antero N. I think he could potentially be the best goalie available at the insignificant cost it would be to acquire him. All you're doing is giving yourself one more option before you would have to resort to Lehner. if its me, im all over this. my guess he gets picked up before the Sens get their shot.

Yes his game was amazing in the beginning, it has slid somewhat lately, but when you take into account, he is our youngest forward, who did not benefit from a full training camp, and that they just finished many road games in too few nights, it would be understandable. I still regard him as one of our brightest stars in the future, and before you comment on it, I was wrong about Turris before the trade, he is much better than I had imagined.

I agree that there's no denying Auld has been terrible and not even serviceable as a backup this year, but it would only make sense to sign Nittymaki if we were to turn around and waive Auld immediately. Also Nitty has not played an NHL game this year and has become rather injury prone. His save percentage leaves a lot to be desired as well, especially given the quality team he played on last year. I'd rather call Lehner up for the 5 games we need a change of pace starter.

Scary to think that something is up, but did you see him interviewed between periods last night? He struck me as looking totally sad / uninterested and it hit me immediately like "UH OH". Maybe he is wiped out and will benefit from the a more relaxed schedule the next little bit? Maybe there is something going on off the ice or injury-wise? I don't know but it set off my spider senses, hopefully everything is ok with him. Have to agree on this, and think we can add a few more players in that regard as well. Zack Smith, has not looked the same since being banged up in the San Jose game, Kyle Turris' game has slid lately, but that may be due to no training camp, and conditioning may be down after all these games he has been thrust into. Interesting to me is the "old man" Alfie, who you would think would be worn down, has had quite the spring in his feet, and hope this means we can stop with the retirement talk for a while... would love for him to come back for another year at least

More alarming games he started: Was=2-1L PHI=7-2L (pulled after one) Van=2-1OTL NJ=5-4OTL Pitt=6-4W Cal=4-3W (pulled after one) So he has only finished 4/6 games. and he has given ottawa a chance to win only 2 games out of the 6 he started (ironically we lost both) his only win, came with us scoring 6 and needing 5 to win in short we need a new backup to ease anderson

I just don't see any other goalie becoming available on the market that would fit our needs more so than Nitti Pro rated we are looking at about 1 mill left on the books for this year ($2 mill contract) Auld clearly isn't working, and Maclean has no trust in him what so ever. Anderson has already played in 47 of our 52 games. Which is on pace for 74 games. (keep in mind at the beginning of the eyar when Anderson struggled didn't Maclean start Auld in 2-3 games in a row? Anyways I was a staunch supporter of simply calling up lehner near the end of the season, bu that was because that was the best alternative option to Auld on the market. I would much prefer Nitti sitting on the bench for us here on out

here is a shock, Tookie siding with the brutal Refs, and going against all the other fans on this site... Not that this would get a rise out of all us Sens fans who have had it with the Refs Vengance, for daring to be called out by PM... It was a brutal call on top of about 8 others on that Ref vendeta road trip... a complete disgrace to the organization that not only stands for such BS but, protects it and encourages it for its own purposes Just Disgraceful Miguel can you make one post without involving the word Tookie? I agree with Tookie on the call that the goal should have been waved off. Please stop using "all the other fans on this site" as in most cases I agree with Tookie over you. Please take your Tookie bashing crusade over to the forum and leave the comment thread to Sens fans that enjoy constructive two way banter. As for the refs, the Phillips glove on puck in the crease and Karlsson getting tripped (diving) were both kinda BS.

no, don't be surprised that tookie takes this stand because that's his default setting - but he isn't "taking a stand" against all the other people on here because there are those that agree with him. You can't just pretend that those posts aren't there. this looks to be a classic call that splits the two groups of fans watching based on what colour jersey they are wearing. If Foligno had been Doan and Smith Anderson you can guarantee that most of the people on this board would be claiming it was a good call (just like the majority of Phoenix fans are, all 17 of them) - that's the mentality of most fans - just don't get over excited when some people rise above it and take a contrary view i didn't like the call but can see why it was made, I agree that the additional penalty was unjustified - but this is nowhere near as bad as the penalty shot call against the kings. and really saying there is clearly no intent because some sports reporters said so - stop reaching, if you don't think he had intent stand by it but don't use the most unreliable bunch of people in the entire world to back up your argument. Next you'll be telling me that you believe Andy Sutton elbowed Leopold in the head because you heard a reporter say it. we can bitch about missed calls on this road trip all we want but the reality is that for too long the sens have been asking Anderson to bail them out and keep them in games because they have started slowly and too often we've been relying on great third periods to get us out of jams. we are a much better team than I expected, but this isn't 2005-2007, we aren't good enough to get away with only playing 20 or 30 minutes a night. That's the real reason we are losing games, not the referees. Excellently stated!

Not sure I see the appeal. 30 games left. Anderson is going to play 20-25 of those anyway and will have to for the Sens to stay in playoff mix. Keep in mind, Niittymaki has not played a game this season. If the Sens feel they need more from the back up position, the move will be calling up Lehner from Bingo. Organization has said that before. Add to that the fact that the team is still working within the much talked about budget, and I just don't think the move makes sense.
Justa thought about resting Anderson: http://www.quanthockey.com/nhl/records/most-games-played-in-one-season-by-nhl-goalies.html Games Played by one goalie in one season Basically if your name is not Martin Brodeur, Luongo or Kipper your looking at max 75 games played. Only goalie to play more than 72 games and win the cup are Grant Fuhr (oilers - 87-88) and Brodeur (Devils) Anderson has already played 47 games. with 30 left, unless we get a capable backup he will be looking at around 70-75 games. Now I'm not syaing we will come close to winning the cup, but if we want to try and make any noise we need him to rest a little, and lehner is an option, but I'm not sold this year. Gran Nitti give him 10 of final 30 games..(really dependent on our situation tho) Anderson will be burnt by March at this pace, and a 6 day layoff for ASG wont really come in handy in April

Tookie, I'll give you the benifit if the doubt here since you only heard and didnt see the play (however don't make absurd judgments on what you haven't seen). Firstly he didn't have anywhere to go as the defense rod him into the crease, and if it werent for the goalie coming out into his lane he wouldn't have even made contact. Incidental contact would possibly have negated the goal, but there wouldn't have been a penalty which put them down a man at such a crucial time in the game. Seriously BAD call. I've seen the replays, maybe you should too... Smith doesnt leave his crease, Foligno cuts across the crease and into Smith, thats not the issue, its after when Smith makes the first save on Foligno, he gets dragged by the momentum and instead of moving, Foligno stands over the goalie, skate between pads and all and impedes Smith' save process. Its not the driving to the net that got called its his actions after the drive. I'm not saying the goal should have counted as there was contact, but was it intentional, NO ( and the replay that shows it the clearest is the one that is straight on to him from the boards.... it clearly shows that his path was crossed as the goalie comes into it. He was trying to avoid, not make contact.... He comes out and makes contact then they get tied up. That's incidental. No goal, but no penalty). Anyways on to the next one, you can't change the past.

Watched the game last night and was really pissed when the goal was disallowed but I thought it was the right call. I watched it again about ten times this morning. It was the right call. Foligno went well into the crease. He wasn't pushed there, nor was he completely boxed in there by the defense. If that kind of thing was allowed to be a goal in this league every team would have to keep five goaltenders on roster because of all the injuries. It is a good rule and was called correctly. It sucks that it wasn't a goal, but I have no issue with the officiating.

I've watched that replay countless times and Smith gets turned after he puts out his forearm to block Foligno. Refs are deciding games and have unfairly targeted Foligno and Karlsson this year in different ways. The inconsistency from the refs and lack of public discourse by the league is really hurting the fans more than any Ovie All-Star snub! They don't have to fine or suspend refs, but some explanation of their POV would be nice. It's a fast game and shit happens but there is no room for unsubstantiated grudges. Hopefully the boys can regroup and re-energize over the break and come back for a good and LONG end to the season! GO SENS GO!!!

I know circumstances have changed somewhat since the start of the season and we would all like Auld to be better than he has been, but I'm happy with the way things are between the pipes at the moment i could do with the sens not giving Anderson so much work every 1st period though

Weak roster my ass... the sens have more people contributing offensivly than the leafs do this year (check the stats) and they are younger and have a far better future with whats in the farm system. Are they going to make mistakes? Hell yea, they are young and it will happen The Leafs are having a great year, but the fact is that if it wasn't for two people on that team having career years the picture would be far different. What happens if one or both of them get injured in the back half?

It wasnt a bad call, it was the right call to make, the timing of it was bad, but the Sens have been playing poorly the last 3 games or so.
no, don't be surprised that tookie takes this stand because that's his default setting - but he isn't "taking a stand" against all the other people on here because there are those that agree with him. That's the real reason we are losing games, not the referees.

miguel - try reading the other comments before launching into one of your tookie love/hate tirades - he is far from the only person on here saying that they can see why the goal was disallowed ok Apostle like I am to be surprised that Tookie takes this stand? I challenge you to remember a similar call where it is late in the game, and a team scores the tying goal. Where they not only waive it, but also give a penalty to the losing team. I will guarentee that in that case it would be obvious that the player interfered "intentionally" with the goalie. First of all there was absolutely no intent by Foligno, and if anyone, it was Smith who was driving Foligno as he comes in, and secondly, if there was clearly no intent (as was indicated by many reporters), then how can Foligno get the penalty? I can clearly recall many times players driving the net, crashing the net with goalie, puck and all, and the goal still stands, If is looks and smells like shit, then it probably is just that!

Having managed to survive the late night game watching of the Sens on their West coast swing, I have to be thankful I'm not a Detroit Red Wings Fan. Those fans must go through this every week. I suppose its not too bad for them because (a) the wings win A LOT, and (b) most people in Detroit are unemployed. Ok, that second point was a low blow, I'll admit ;-)

I hope BM has a conversation about the refs, really he is the only one that has a remote chance of being heard. On the other side I hope they all get some rest over the weekend and are fresh when it is over. I have traveled lots out west and adjusting to the time is a killer, it is like 5 in the morning there and you are wide awake being 8 here, its a long day to start playing hockey 13 and 14 hours later and be going at it after midnight, that and back to back games of that. Bring on the All Star weekend.

"the refs have it in for us - it's a conspiracy and they're totally biased!" This will make me puke if I hear it one more time. Good to see there are some reasonable fans here - don't want everyone to think our entire fan base is a bunch of whiners. If you had the wrong angle on the foligno play, it looked like interference. If you had a good angle, you see there's no intent on Foligno's part AND Smith extended his arm, but still, Foligno stopped him from being able to set up for the rebound, making the call reasonable. I love my Sens too, but you can't just call 'bias' every time a call doesn't go your way. Every fan base in the league at some point thinks they're being unfair targeted for some reason.

he drags him with his skate because smith dives into foligno's skate. absurd... it was a bad call. not one coyotes player on the ice nor the goalie was up in arms after they scored, they didn't even know it had been waived off. Foligno has been a marked man ever since his dust up with crosby.

Yeah its a super tough call to make, refs could have easily gone the other way on this but, I think what you said is the reason the refs blew it down. Foligno makes no attempt to get off the goalie, after his skate drgs him, Foligno just stands there, stands over the goalie and impedes the goalie' save process, which is interference. My only issue with this assessment is that Smith was able to make the save he was trying to make. It looked like he had no idea where the puck was, so he was natrually heading in that direction anyway. Foligno did not stop him from making the save, he did it himself. He didn't have to latch on to Foligno's leg either. And the interference penalty afterwards was just ridiculous Watching the last few games it almost seems like the refs are looking for ways to be biased against the Sens. A lot of rules in the NHL are subjective and rely on the refs perspective. Yet the refs seem inclined to lean against the Sens more often than not. If that makes me sounds like bitchy, whiny Sens fan, so be it.

I thought that Foligno play should have resulted in a goal. I haven't seen the replays this morning but it seemed like he tried to not crash into the goalie, he had the puck and brought it to the net hard and then Smith put up his arm (probably felt like he was going to get hit) and this is what caused him to be dragged out of the crease. Foligno had his lane (I guess his one skate went into the crease) but the goalie stuck out his arm. Speaking of Smith, I thought he had a strong game - particularly in the second. The Sens could have walked out of the second with about 4 goals if not for Smith. Earlier in the month those nice deflection plays they were setting up were going in... not right now. That to me was the difference in this game.

Being a new fan and all that jazz I still struggle with some of the rules, goalie interference being one of them - it just seems arbitrary when it's caled and when it isn't - if there was consistency from game to game it would be far more helpful for me it's like the refs don't even care that I'm a newbie - bunch of savages

I agree, we might be hitting that mid season wall, I think the team needs this rest, I mean hell, they've been playing battling everygame and to a young squad it takes its toll on them, they are tired and it showed on that road trip.
