This is the first time, that SensChirp did not post any Projected Lineup on a Game Day thread. Actually, it was the exact same lineup as the Panthers game, in which Line 4 was : Lee- Konopka- Butler, then became in Carolina game : Hoffman - Konopka - Butler. No doubt this could have been a blowout , were it not for numerous heroic saves by Craig Anderson. Merry Christmas to the Ottawa Senators, all the fans, and SensChirp owner for his excellent website, and finally all the posters on SensChirp !!

If Murray can pull it off, all the best to us but I think it may end up being slightly higher. His agent would argue that by comparison, Karlsson's point totals are higher for every year, if only slightly. And at this point in the year, he would have to be considered for a Norris nomination which is added value to his case (and pretty incredible in such a young career). What I would like to see is a gradual contract. Year 1 at 4.5 Year 2 at 5.0 Year 3 at 5.5 Year 4 at 5.5 Year 5 at 6.5 for a total of 27mil with a cap hit of 5.5ish. The terms of his extension will be highly dependant on how quickly Murray can get this deal done. The longer the wait, the more he will cost IMO.

I've posted this several times now but I really do feel this is the best comparable for Karlsson in terms of contracts. Reason why? Letang current salary is based off low point production not current production. Green scored 30 goals one year insane amount. Doughty has a Norris Nomination. Keith has a Norris Trophy. Keith Yandle is the perfect comparison. I know many don't watch him play but he is a treat to watch. Very smoote Dman Yandle: Year 1: 43gp: 5g 7a 12pts (entry level contract) Year 2: 69gp: 4g 26a 30pts (entry level contract) Year 3: 82gp: 12g 29a 41pts (2nd deal) Year 4: 82gp: 11g 48a 59pts (2nd deal) Salary:5 year $26,250,000 Cap hit: $5,250,000 (signed July 2011) Karlsson: Year 1: 60gp: 5g 21a 26pts (Yandle year 2) Year 2: 75gp: 13g 32a 45pts (Yandle year 3) Year 3: 35gp: 4g 29a 33pts (Yandle year 4) Salary:???? Would love to get the same 5 year deal as Yandle got

The only comparable player really is Mike Green. Unbelievable offensive Dman with defensive zone issues. He makes around 5.2 million a year if I'm not mistaken.
I agree the officiating and supplimentary discipline has been a joke this year but i dont think there are any conspiracies lol. Im pretty sure every team have a bunch of people whining about their players being treated unfairly we just dont hear about it because like our team's missed or lack of calls, it doesnt make the media.
[quote name="Andrews Theory"]major difference in officiating this year is that the sens seem to somehow rally around these absurd biased calls. I'm not an nhl conspiracy theorist by any stretch but there are multiple examples this year of the sens getting short changed. you dont need to look any further than comparing foligno's hit to the one alfie recieved. No way, its def a conspiracy at this point examples: Alfie Wolski - no suspension fine Neil Ovie - no suspension no fine Foligno and his two knees - one fine no suspensions Numerous penalties that are bushleague agasint the sens there are a couple other controversial hits on sens players that i just cant think of at the moment shanahan must have some sort of vendetta against maclean while he was being coached in detroit not only that, shanahan rediculed ottawa all the time, especially that while post game bike ride interview the guy is a jerk off lets face it

@Sandy: not only that Gaustad was allowed to stay in the game for a very obvious deliberate hit to injure. Foligno's still falls in the gray area. I feel there is an increase in game misconducts, fines and hearings, but not the required increase in supplementary discipline that will actually curb harmful hits. If Gaustad gets canned for his hit for lets say three games, guys on the sabres team like Gaustad, McCormick, Kaleta combined with buffalo's stinking record will think twice about making that kind of play. hockey should be all about the contact sport we all like, but it should not become a sport where teams have to resort to injuring the opponent to win. I think that alot of players these days are doing the latter, whether intentionally or unintentionally .

As per Travis Yost... on the hit the ref nearest the play was not even going to call a penalty. The penalty was called on Foligno after they had a huddle. Maybe the linesmen had a better view or whatever. So if linesman can call or recommend major penalties -- why was nothing given to Gaustad for the Winchester hit... and I'm still scratching my head for the reason he was not suspended or even fined? How are the players going to know what gets a suspension and what doesn't?

I've always been in favour of finishing as low as possible when not contending. However as the team gathers talent it will move up the ranks. As nice as Forsberg, Yakupov, or Grigs might be to have the fact is the team might be too good to get a shot at any of them. I believe collecting top players from the draft is essential. The Sens have done extremely well to draft better than their ranking and this puts the rebuild on a faster pace. Fans of the Rebuild should identify where some of our players would be ranked if their draft class was re-done in 2011. 2008 - Karlsson 15th Overall - 3rd/4th Overall 2009 - Cowen 9th Overall - 4th/5th Overall 2010 - *Turris 3rd Overall - 11th Overall vs. 2007 Class 2011 - TBD We're icing two top five picks in Karlsson and Cowen if those drafts were re-done. The value of that can't be understated. It remains to be seen how Turris, Zibanejad, Noesen, Puempel, and Silfverberg develop.

1st, they should go back to 1 ref and get rid of the 2 ref system. That's just an extra body with a God complex yearning to blow his whistle and dictate the game. It doesn't work. 2nd, refs should learn to rely on their linesmen, especially when they were better positioned to see a play. Some do but most don't and that's just old school, egocentric, chain of command bullshit. I think that the autocratic style of management rarely works in any work environment. 3rd, stop hiring former players to hold important, critical-thinki ng type jobs in the league. This type inbreeding doesn't work. Having been a captain or assistant captain of a team does not qualify you to be in management...

I said this yesterday as well, the refs have 0 accountability to the league, teams, or themselves right now. They make a horrible game changing call and nothing happens to them, there's no discipline, no apology, nothing. Teams spend millions upon millions of dollars and the fans spend even more, it's about time we stopped letting these Zebra striped clowns run the show... My suggestion yesterday was to have an off-ice official, so if there's even any doubt at all about a call, they go to the off-ice ref to review. The ref will have a war room style set-up to review the plays. Isn't that what they do in the NFL now?

Hey guys im just wondering what tookie thinks of the turris trade now. When talking about who won the heatly trade, I remember him saying something along the lines of "Yes, what does it matter what Heatley does from when he got traded to when he dies, he's not playing for us, its what he DID do for us that matters, nothing else. Michalek can only be compared to what Heatley DID as a Senator, not as a Shark or a Wild. Heatley' time here was spectacular, people were singing his praises all over town, we were gonna win a Cup with this guy, then a slew of idiotic coaches followed, capped by Clouston...So he pulled a Turris and bailed. Milan was doing well, he could have reached 45-50 but now its out of reach and now he's concussed... Now since joining team turris is a point per game with assists on back to back game winners. I guess we are going to hear a brand new approach to judging trades this afternoon.

That penalty against Foligno last night almost made me turn off the game. It's pathetic how far refs have gone to target him by not only over-penalizing his legal hits, but also not penalizing hits against him. It's a joke, and it's time the NHL starts publicly discussing bad calls/refs the way they do everything else in the game. I'm tired of these refs controlling games, especially when it's obvious they are not being consistent team to team, game to game or even within a game. This influx of young refs the last few years has destroyed the quality of the game, and the only party to blame is the NHL itself. It shouldn't be this hard to hold your refs more accountable!

Hoping for a win tonight...Nice to see Hoffman get a chance. Watch Sens from 7 to about 9:30 then turn on WJC -- Canada & Sweden pre-tournament game. As for last night's game... nice that they did not quit. With the Foligno penalty... that was NOT a 5 min and a game. Gaustad got no penalty, and no fine or suspension for concussing Winchester with a cheap shot... and Foligno gets it for the same type of hit that the Detroit player did on Kessler the other night-- he got no penalty either. I'm really beginning to question the integrity of the NHL and it's referees and Shanahan. I'm beginning to wonder if someone is 'lining their pockets' -- a la that basketball ref. As for Condra nice save....
