Ok we're on the same page then, Brassard would fit into this rebuild, but there is a risk to take, depending on what they want for him. Exactly, I'm a big believer of taking what has already developed than wait for it to develop Case in point or trade for Rundblad, we sped up our defensive rebuild one year by making that trade, getting a prospect one year closer to NHL etc Filatov gamble with a 3rd round pick, done! Most 3rd don't pan out anyways its a gamble and filatov we have a better idea I would go as high as a 2nd and a fringe prospect such as da costa/butler/le e to get Brass cause we know what we are getting, and it doens't cost us years within a rebuild

Well to be honest I would rather have Vermette still, Leclaire came and went without making an impact. Vermette would atleast be potting 20-25 goals playing in our top 6. But on the flip side I dont mind the trade as we got Lehner. I agree Tookie. The issue I have been raising is people are hesitent to get Brassard because they think we get CLB castoffs or "reclamation" projects which is untrue.

bubble goalie yes, but what were our options at the time? Gerber???? Vermette always showed problems, but he too, like Leclair was full of "if" he reached his potentials. # years later and he still hasn't he is what he is now, a faster perhaps more skilled version of Chris Kelly. Tell me which would be better fit for a team at same salary right now? Leclair was a gamble for us, just like all those teams I listed gambled, and unfortunately ours didn't pay off. Leclair was young and went through injuries, no one anticipated him getting concussed on the bench, in practice, rolling his leg while shaving etc..... Unfortunate, but my original point was that we werent doing columbus any favors by taking him, like we did with filatov and perhaps brassard

Leclaire was a #1 man. Would anyone argue right now that Reimer is not a #1 or that when Colorado signed Anderson he wasn't a #1. How bout mason after his Calder trophy winning season? Anyone feel Schneider should be a #1? I could continue. How about Crawford last year, was he #1? When Bryzgalov got picked up by phoeix I guess he wasnt #1 material right, he had only ever been a backup in Anaheim. Crap when Montreal traded Halak away what were they doing Price only had 1 good season as well..uh oh....I guess I shouldn't even look to Quick as a #1 or even Halak again, since really he had one good playoff run ebfore St.Louis got him right? Leclaire was a smart move, and its not like Vermette has lit it up in Columbus and we did get a decent prospect back in the trade... Leclair if healthy would have solved our goaltending, but injury plagued him move on

Is Colin Greening one of the 3 best forwards in the organisation at the moment? No Does this mean he should be taken off the 1st line at the moment? No You don't pick your best players, you pick the best team combination. It's all about balance. When the rebuild has progressed further I don't believe Greening will be on the top line because there will be players better suited to it. In time, I see Greening as finding a regular home switching between the 2nd and 3rd lines as required. But at the moment having Greening on the top line as a big physical presence making it difficult to play against allows us to have a better 2nd line and a better 3rd line. I would love it if we could replace greening with another skilled winger who would put away 30 goals this year but we don't have that option at the moment.

Filitov has to get in, he has to. Despite the win, Butler was a no show who was relegated to the bench for most of the third. I have been critical of Foligno in the past but he is actually producing this year which is awesome. last year he would skate his ass off but he would basically skate his ass off into a corner and give the puck away. he was a guy that I thought little of offensively but he has made me a believer this year. hope he keeps it up and can maintain the consistency.

Filatov was the only flier we ever took from Columbus in hopes of turning him around. LEclair was not a reclamation project! I repeat stop lumping the leclair deal in with filatov and brassard! Leclair was a bonafide #1 goalie when we got him Now onto lineups. I agree about greening not playing with spezza. He hasn't been able to compliment Spezza very much since his torrid start. when regin gets back: Michalek-Spezza -Filatov/Regin Greening/Regin- Foligno-Alfie Daug-Smith-Cond ra Winnie-konops-b utler-neil-gree ning-filatov *when filatov plays try him top line, if he fails than put regin there

His game is driving to the outside, picking up some speed, then cutting in. This year, that extra speed/strength is really helping him squeak through checks along the boards and control the puck down low. He's much harder to take off the puck now.

Chirp, seeing that Foligno is having a good year, and that Regin is due back soon, how about putting Foligno on the wing with Spezza, replacing Greening? I really like Greening but I think he is getting way too much ice-time- he is not a first line winger. I'd like to see what Foligno could do with the same minutes as Greening is getting on the top-line. Thoughts?

Fellow SC followers. Would it make sense now that Neil is back, to sit Konopka out? I am a huge fan of Konopka's play, however, the last few games he hasn't done too much. Say we sit Konopka out, drop Butler to another line and bring in Filatov? Would that work? Give us a little more 'firepower' against the Caps?

I didn't find last season THAT bad, it just wasn't much of a progression due to the makeup of our team last year (i.e., everything seemed to suck). It was technically a "career" year in points for Foligno (I use scare quotes because it was only by 2 points and with 3 less goals), but it wasn't horrible. I think the biggest thing is that we all wanted him to have that "breakout" year last year (especially have the pre-season), and because of how bad our team was, he didn't have maybe the same opportunity he might have this year. Right now he's on pace for about 50 points... not saying he will get there, but it looks like this season is maybe the one we have been waiting for (knock on wood).

I hope they give Nick and extended shot to play center. He's bound to have some struggles but I think he's got the tools to do it. Not long-term as second line, best fit for him on our "cup run" team would be third line center or back to the wing - but for now let him play a bunch of games between Alfie and Michalek so he can get comfortable.
