hmm. I have to say i disagree completely. The flyers and sabres are going to be in the top 5 in the east this season for sure. Look at who they brought in this off season (or lost in philies case) and I think they're still better than Ottawa. If i had to predict i'd say 1. Washington 2. Pittsburgh 3. Buffalo 4. Tampa 5. Boston 6. Philly 7. NYR 8. Montreal 9. Florida 10. New Jersey 11. Ottawa 12. Carolina 13. Winnipeg 14. Toronto 15. NYI Buffalo ahead of Boston? Absolutely not... The rest I probably agree with for the most part.

I know you didn't mean it this way, but I think the worst thing that could happen would be to finish 9th or 10th. I'm thrilled if we finish 8th and make the playoffs since that would/should mean our young core is coming together nicely so a mid-round draft position isn't a problem. But if we're going to miss the playoffs I hope we finish in the lottery. Way too soon to think about that I guess though. i agree with what you are saying that 9th or 10th wouldn't be a good year from a rebuilding perspective - i just can't come to terms with the concept of hoping we finish as low as possible

Really glad Butler was signed as well. His potential is conservatively as a 20 goal man, realistically as a 25-30 goal guy and if he hits the ceiling he could put up 35-40. The main issue is once the league catches wind of how talented he is as a goal scorer, the opposition is constantly gonna try to beat the piss out of him physically. How he handles that will determine his future.

Although this is somewhat of a moot point I still feel it's necessary to state it. Just because Zibanijad is a physical player that doesn't mean in the least that he'll seamlessly transition to the North American game. For example, let's say you've got a UFC fighter who has an excellent stand up game, he beats up on guys for a whole year with guys that are submission specialists with no striking skills whatsoever. The man's striking skills will no doubt still remain sharp, however if your not used to fighting opposition who can mirror those same attributes and more importantly are not used to getting hit hard, it will stifle his development. The same goes for hockey when pertaining to hockey for Zibanajad, he needs to get used to the physical style of play/smaller rink. That's why it would be best for him to play for bingo if he can't make the big club. Yes I'm aware he can't play for bingo because of the stupid transfer agreement, however, my point still remains valid.

@Oakster15 I find it kind of funny that you say the Flyers will finish in the Top5 and then rank them 6th. Yes Florida will score more goals this year, but they will give up a hell of a lot more with the Theodore/Clemme nsen..So I don't see them finishing 9th. I do not see Florida as being better than Ottawa. They have Jovo on the back end who in 16 year has only had a "plus" rating 3 times! Their best D-men are Campbell and Kulikov...but you know what, IF we traded them Kuba, he would probably be in their top pairing (well definitely Top 3). So I guess my point is...no I don't think Florida is going to finish higher than Ottawa in the standings.

I am not shocked at what happened to Vokoun. And for all of you complaining Sens didn't sign him, it is my opinion that Anderson was the better of the 2 when both were in Florida but Vokoun had to play more because of the contract optics. I still feel Anderson is the better of the 2 now. I do feel the Sens should have a young goalie (US college grad maybe) at Elmira. 3 goalies injured last year and could happen again. Thought Murray might draft a goalie this past draft, but it was the worst goalie crop in a long time -likely next year, a goalie in round 2 or 3.

Ottawa 9. Buffalo 10. Carolina 11. Montreal 12. Winnipeg 13. Toronto 14. Islanders 15. Panthers

Goaltending will be an issue for them for sure. I still can't believe Caps took Vokoun for 1.5 Mil. That's 0.5 mil over Auld... They sure did spend a lot on those players. I don't think they are worth 4 mil but they will be some added depth for the Cats. They may not be 15 in the conf, still bottom 5 anyway. the panthers have a good young goalie in Markstrom coming up might surprise a few people. not sure if hes ready just yet tho

I agree with you 100%, I think Zib or Silf will fill Alfie's shoes! In what way? Other than being Swedish... Zibanejad has been mentioned as someone who may eventually be a quality captain in the nhl. Add to that he is a hard worker, skilled forward and not afraid to go in the corners and you have some basis for comparisons. But yes the starting point was probably that they are both Swedish. If he performs long term, the sens could possibly have the Captaincy go from Alfie to Spezza to Zibanejad. Jason Spezza is going to have the captaincy for 10 years before Zibanejad gets it.

Although i think the more realistic player to fill alfies shoes would have been landeskog. That wasnt in the cards. Sens will be much better and probably playoff bound and better than the Laffs b/c: - best goaltending in years (since Hasek) - which will improve our defense - which will allow our offensively gifted d-man room to create - Winning respected coaching - Healthy Alfie, Spezza - Gonchar bounces back and for those reasons it will be an enthusiastic year, with a better finish than what Tookie says!

I really will never understand why people think we will be so horrible and how we are "stuck" with "untradable" players. Gonchar and Kuba: Don't know why people think they have suddenly lost their skills? Is it the Cheechoo experience that causes this? Coaching: I think it is fair to say that Clouston lost the room. Even the captain threw him under the bus during interviews. Yes, I would say the expression "I don't agree with what he said" is throwing the coach under the bus. Goaltending: Unless people think Elliot = Anderson, there is no reason to think Anderson will get a sunburn from the red light always going off? Offense: This one makes me laugh the most...Saw an article by Yost that, in one sentence said that Butler- Spezza-Alfie could be a return to the glory days, then 2 sentences later, he says the sens are offensively challenged. sigh...maybe I'm just a dreamer to expect a fun season...

Definitely my mistake on making you guys think I thought the rebuild is complete. My "hear hear" was more for the "You will be disappointed next season Tookie we will be winners." statement. Again sorry for not being clear there. I think the rebuild will be "complete" in 1-2 yrs, probably in Gonchar's last season of his contract or the 1 after. Though when is a rebuild actually "complete" ... who knows, is it when u make the playoffs again, home ice, win a cup ... personally I think teams are just constantly retooling in most cases, true rebuilds to me are the ones the Oilers and Islanders have been going through with prolonged stretches of being the worst for several seasons ... not something the sens will be doing. I guess it becomes semantics about the definition of words that we may all take differently.

Ah ok about the 1 ways, didn't realize that. As for the rest I think we've discussed it a lot so I won't add too much more other then I can't fathom that you think only Spezza will surpass 20 goals though, it really seems like you're stuck on last year's stats kind of like you were with your leafs (McArthur) stats from this past year yesterday. Last season happened, and it sucked, but to expect a repeat or worst is just not something a fan should do no matter how "realistic" you think you are being because failing that bad again with the roster we have is not realistic. Also FYI, Filatov is rated as a top 3 forward prospect per Hockey Futures and I've read reports that have Zibanejad as a top 3 forward prospect as well.

Well I guess my point is I don't think we have a good enough team to make the playoffs then. To sum up you think we will compete for a playoff spot and don't think its an under achievement if we don't make it unless we don't make it by a wide margin. I think we will compete every night but will finish in the bottom 5 of the conference and if we get into the playoffs I will consider it as an over achievement based on what I perceive to be the strength or otherwise of our roster. I don't think we are that far apart in what sort of team we have, but our expectations of the final result are a bit different. Either way thanks for not calling me a leafs fan and I'm happy I didn't have to imply you were not good sexually or had a horrible mother.

The Kuba that has no foot speed and gets absolutely burned by any forward with speed. I'm pretty sure that Rundblad will be the answer in the future and Kuba will not be brought back.
I agree - I said Kuba and/or Gonchar in my original post about the rebuild not ebing done. I would prefer Gonchar to stay, partly because I think Kuba is easier to move. But the fewer unmovable contracts we have the better it is in the mid/long term. I don't think we can say that the rebuild is complete until the majority of players we drafted to effect the rebuild are on the roster. That I think will take 2 more seasons. I am happy to concede that the first phase is done, but I believe there is work to be done at the next draft and with nexy years impending free agency crowd.

Sorry but you are wrong in that assumption of my position. If the sens do not make the playoffs it is not an under achievement it's just disappointing as a fan. With their skill level they should be in the race for 1 of the final playoff spots, so the only underachievemen t would be ending in a distant last in the conference like Tyrant wants. Overachievement for me wouldn't happen until the team got home ice advantage, which even I can say is very far fetched for this coming year. But fighting for a spot is neither imo. Try to look at us as the Nahville of the East, except we have a bit better top end skill and a bit less top 6 depth right now. This team to be successful has to play a team game!

@ Jabs Those were 1 way contracts, I didnt post my line ups. Filatov Spazza Butler Michalek Regin/Foligno Alfie Greening Smith Condra Foligno/Regin Konopka Neil Winchester That to me looks like a bottom 6 finish, yes Anderson will help but we dont have rock solid D to win 1-0 or 2-1 games, we dont have the scoring either to support Anderson. Spezza, IMO, is the only one who will score over 20 guaranteed. The rest, I cant put over 20 due to injuries. I'll give Butler the outside chance to go over 20 but that is a big jump, he will be facing of vs other top line for 82 games, can he handle it? Too man unknowns... Oh andthe rebuild is not complete, haha, we go 1 year and people thin its done. LMAO We dont even have a top 3 projected talent in our prospect pool. Our d going forward needs to be built around Phillips (because we don't have a choice anymore), Karlsson, Rundblad and Cowen. Kuba and Gonchar are not viable pieces moving forward past this season. If the sens make the playoffs it is because they are playing a team game and playing to their abilities, not because they are overachieving. Boston didn't win the cup by overachieving, they did it by playing a team game and sacrificing for each other. Their top 6 isn't that special either, but I'll say it once again, fortunately this is a team game that doesn't just fall to 6 players like so many of you negatives seem to be attached to.

The rebuild isn't close to being done. The development phase IS the rebuild. Add the picks from next year and maybe a strategic FA signing or two along with the shedding of some of the contracts that hurt us going forward like Kuba and/or Gonchar and THEN we can think about it being done. As for not seeing how some people can think we won't compete next year you only need to look at our probable top 6 next year. There is 1 star in his prime, 1 glorious star on the wane, 1 injury prone winger, 2 unproven players and a big hole where the 2nd line centre should be. I've said before I think we will compete every game and work hard and I'm really looking forward to that. With good luck with injuries and a following wind we MAY scrape into 7th or 8th but that would constitute a massive over achievement for this team and would exceed the expectations I believe of most of the sens management.

without a doubt I believe Filatov will start with the big club as a top line player, and with Neil, Smith, Winchester and Konopka looking like a line of there own I'd have to agree winchester be the odd man out. but who knows! Winchester in College was a scoring player, now his a rough house kinda guy. Konopka was number 4 in the face off leaders i think he has a strong chance of claiming that spot. I read somewhere Maclean wanted him. although I try to defer from making roster line ups here a peak of what i think Filatov-Spezza- Michalek Butler-Regin-Al fredsson (VisVersa) Foligno-Condra- Greening Smith-Konopka-N eil X=Winchester

I'm not sure how one could exclude Filatov from the team next year. If Regin was able to get as much ice as he did last year while sucking so bad, Filatov should definitely get a taste for the full season as well. Winchester & Regin fight it out for the press box seat, 1 of them gets traded if Zibanejad and/or Da Costa are ready.

The sens are pretty much done with the rebuild they are missing one or two key players and we probably have them in our systeme, now its the development phase.I do believe that we will be competting next year i dont see why people seem to think otherwise. After the trade deadline we wer able to compete and beat some of the best teams plus now we have a better coaching staff that will be able to get the most out of our players. You will be dissapointed next season Tookie we will be winners.

I think Filatov makes the team which means somebody, Winchester is my guess, sitting to start out.
