One way deal only means that he gets the same money whether he plays in the AHL or in the Bigs. What is more important is whether or not his Entry-Level status has expired or not. If it has (and I assume so since he signed his first ELC in 08) he is now no longer waiver exempt and would have to clear waivers any time he is moved between the NHL and the minors. This would be the case whether he was on a 1-way deal or a 2-way.

Smith not only deserves it, but projects as a top 9 forward (3rd line C). I don't see how anyone could have a problem with this signing. You can't demand only 2 way contracts for players, that's not how the business works. He did his 2way time, now it's time for him to prove he can improve his contribution at the NHL level. Smith deserves the 1way even more than Greening, you are undervaluing this kid way too much. It really bothers me that you'd talk so negatively about this signing, because it shows a clear lack of understanding of the business and players' rights. On top of the fact it's not like he's a borderline NHL player, he's already proven he at least belongs on the 4th line.

The Sens hopes of grabbing a Couturier, Landeskog or Huberdeau lie in another team before them taking a 2nd dman or them moving up. I'm not completely convinced there will be 2 dmen going that early, but from all accounts Zibanejad would be more than acceptable as a consolation pick at 6th. @PraiseAlfie84 - Great clip, thanks for sharing!

Which is why I think it's a bad signing. As much as Smith may be liked, he's not what the team NEEDS moving forward. There are too many checkers and fourth line grinders to go around. We need a more skilled top 9 that can chip in and score every night. Why limit the team to two lines that can score? Give the third line a couple of guys who can also pot them in. If Smith is anymore than a fourth liner I will be disappointed. We need more talent. I would rather see Greening or Condra instead of Smith. Greening's scored as many goals as Smith in only 24 games, compared to Smith's 6 goals in 71 games. And Greening's a better skater, and can grind just as hard. He also has more discipline. Bad signing.

really exciting time to be a Sens fan. Prospects doing well, we all feel fairly safe to say we some top level goaltending in Anderson, finally. And then this draft with plenty to choose from in the top two rounds. Do we trade up, do we keep our pick? Not really sure, but judging by what BM has done recently with Karlsson, Rundblad, Cowen, Butler as FA, I know that we have the right man leading the charge to pick the best crop from what will be available. My 2 cents, I say Landeskog live, and he really was impressive, but I know he will not be available at #6

I wonder about this Rocco guy. To be clear, I know absolutely Nothing about him except what i see here. That said, the guy is 5'6" and rated 15th. Teams always find it hard to draft the guys who may not be able to overcome their stature. Someone like Fleury wa an outside chance and was taken late. Briere, for instance, was a late first rounder. Have to imagine that he would have been an early round pick if not for his size. I'm always slightly tempted by the small guys because their height/weight usually makes them drop a few spots from where their talent naturally puts them. Anyone know about this guy? Would be interested to hear. Also wondering how many fans would b following Bingo if the Sens were in the playoffs. Reall wondering, not being facetious.

I'll take a #4 and a #9 please! On an entirely different note - I just got back from a WILD trip to Europe. Funny story I'm in the world's most rocking pub, The Temple Bar in Dublin Ireland, I notice this one guy has an "accent like us" so I say hello and ask him where in North America he is from. He says he is from Calgary and I tell him I'm from Ottawa and he looks at the Sens hat I am wearing and says "Ahhh you must be a Sens fan" and he goes on to introduce himself as Jeff Glass "third string goalie from the Cup contender a few years back". Funny to run into someone like that and he was a real nice guy, sounds like he is playing in the KHL now. Small world!

I dunno I just feel like Huburdeau, as amazing as he is, had his points inflated because he played on the best regular season team in the country. Strome on the other hand has very similar skills, and still tore it up on a lesser squad. His ceiling may be higher than Huburdeau's. I'd like to see Strome a Sen, even just to see Burke pissed that his target kid gets drafted by his biggest rival :P

Strome would be sick. I wonder if it would be possible to trade up and get both him and Huburdeau. I'd rather that then trade up and get only Landeskog. I would give up Regin before Foligno though. Nsh 21st, Regin and a fourth sound about right.
