The two teams come into tonight's match up in a dead heat- 22 points a piece through 18 games.
The Senators have reeled off three straight wins while the Leafs have won 7 of their past 10. The Leafs controlled the last match up on Saturday night but that was against a Sens team still reeling from the injury to their star defenceman. They have been a different team since that night.
Ottawa will obviously be without Craig Anderson tonight but it doesn't seem like a long term injury. Can't imagine Anderson missing more than two weeks.
In the meantime, Paul MacLean will turn to Ben Bishop as his starting goalie on Saturday night. Robin Lehner will dress as his back up. With Stephane Da Costa back in Bingo, Jim O'Brien draws back into the line up assuming a spot as 4th line right winger.
Here is how the Coach lined them up at the morning skate.
Silfverberg-Turris-Alfredsson
Greening-Zibanejad-Condra
Dziurzynski-Smith-Neil
Daugavins-Grant-O'Brien
Methot-Gryba
Lundin-Phillips
Wiercioch-Gonchar
For those of you going to the game tonight, be LOUD!
The rivalry between the two fan bases has been taken to another level thanks to the "Take Back the Bank" initiative so you know the Leafs supporters will be out in full force. I've always felt the best way to take back our building is to just be louder than the other guy. Don't be afraid to support your team!
GO SENS GO!
- Special night at SBP as the Senators and Sens Foundation will host Hockey Talks. For a third straight season, the organization will partner with Do It For Daron (D.I.F.D.) to educate fans on youth mental health. They'll also be raising funds in support of the D.I.F.D. Fund at the Royal Ottawa Hospital Foundation for Mental Health. For more information on the Hockey Talks event, check out this link.
He got sent down yesterday. And I don't know about 'best rivalries in sports'... nobody outside of North America... probably even less than that knows about it...
Back in the hay day it was known across North America, for sure. Certainly hasn't been at that level in a long time though. Perhaps "in hockey" is more appropriate.
(well I guess neither do the Sens but they will get him back soon)
Then he is sent down.
On a side note:
Karma is a beautiful thing, hopefully Malkin's out for the year just like EK is.
Go Sens Go
They needed him to score that shootout goal for Binghamton last night.
Bishop starting makes sense. I'm sure Lehner will get a game at least to make his call up feel worth while. I'm also sure he knows that he's the future and Bishop (or less likely Anderson) will get moved before next season.
One thing on leaf fans - I think a large number of them at games are from the Ottawa area and were leaf fans before the Sens even existed. As Chirp said, just be loud as Sens fans and the tables will eventually turn.
Go Sens Go
The biggest difference in Leaf land is now they actually have a very good coach in Randy Carlyle. I'm not surprised to see then doing well but I do hope they crash and burn soon. I still can't believe Burke stole JVR for Schenn. Total robbery...One of the few good things Burke did in his tenure in Toronto.
I hope this pesky Sens squad comes out firing on all cylinders tonight and runs the leafs and their fans out of the building on national television.
4-2 Sens win tonight. Silfverberg extends his point streak to 4 games. Two goals from captain Alfie, one from Gonchar and another from Condra!
We will never rid SBP of the Laffs fans but hopefully over the next few years they will dwindle down after realizing Karl/Silf/ZBad/ Lehner are raw superstars.
Chirp - Sorry if this is against your policy... just let me know!
Thanks
Its the direct result of a fanbase who has nothing but the concept of a team to cheer for, they havent made the cup final, let alone a championship since the league had more than six teams.
Actually there is more leaf fans because there generation was here before the team was hence the turnout. As time passes it will slowly ween in our favor. The you get generations are likely Sens fans and the older ones will eventually be phased out
I thought us sens fans were better than that, Malkin going down is not only a loss to the Pens but to hockey as a whole just like Karlsson. Sucks that we lost Karlsson but I'd never wish an injury onto a player that wasn't involved. Cooke on the other hand is another story..
True but lets hope Bishop is lights out tonight.
Double whammy tonight, we can get two points and go ahead of the leafs all in one shot.
Is it wrong to want a player put for selfish hockey pool reasons?
LoL
They were saying on the radio to bring up Lehner they had to send someone down.. so it was DaCosta.
With games against the Leafs & Bruins maybe they felt they needed bigger bodies.
I hope Lehner gets the start against the Bruins.. he shut them out before with Andy out.. but then again Karlsson & Spezza were playing.
The Sens played well the last game.. even with 3 young players playing thei 1st NHL game. But those 3 players are more settled and should be better in this game.
What the Leafs have is speed & Kessel & JVR.. that's it.
Hoping Silf pots a couple. If he can score on Brodeur & Lundqvist.. he should be able to get a couple past Scrivens.
And for Carlyse to even indicate the Leafs injuries are similar to the Sens.. it has to be something in the water in TO. And to say that Toronto media is not allowed to print that? That's just incredible.
I hate the Leafs and everything about them.. especially their fans. And no HATE is not to strong a word.
Just remember what I mentioned yesterday.. if you get in a tussle with a Leaf fan let them throw the 1st punch. Security will take them out of the arena..
hope we lay a couple out tonight with good hits as well.
and to Sandy as well.
Got it.
Still odd he was not in the shoot out.
Tell them they punch the waterboy on the 1967 cup team. Thats 46 years ago baby. Funny, they win a few games and they are ready to push for the cup. Time to get the leafs voodoo doll out! Damn no more room for pins!
But the continued success of Senschrip.ca is far more important than any benefit I get out of sharing my views/thoughts with other Sens fans so I'll happily tone it down if some people are incapable of simply skipping over my posts.
Go Sens Go
Long live SensChirp
Alfie is AMAZING (in Ray Lewis voice)
@Hax,
I am certain that there are more people here who enjoy your posts than those who do not,
keep posting bud, those who do not want to read, simply do what most of us do to tookie's comments and skip over them :)
You're not the problem Miguel.
You don't post 20 or 30 times EVERY day.
You don't try to take over every conversation with needless nitpicking or bozo comments.
Check out some of the forums from last Fall - lots of great opinions and counter opinions from people who have moved on because they're not interested in fighting through the Hax / Tookie blather.
It gets out of hand when he feels the need to agree or disagree with literally every comment. As if its his site or something. The nitpicking is just wild. It's bad when you can tell someone's OCD from reading a blog.
The reason it bothers me is people then are hesitant to post their opinions. It's almost like they feel they shouldn't interrupt a 1 on 1 conversation. Or they don't want every little detail of their comment to be picked apart.
I personally don't care what Hax or Tookie say, however this site is much less interesting to read when all you're reading is one mans opinion over and over. Everyone comes here to read multiple views on multiple subjects. Lately it just hasn't been that way
I too am bummed that DaCosta was sent down but I think it had to be done. I saw it coming after the last two games where he wasn't contributing anymore and then the coach gave him less and less ice time. As others have said, OBrien will be more effective on the 4th line, especially against the leafs.
Bishop definitely deserves the start. He's played great. Looked a little shaky last game but you can't blame him since he got thrown into an intense game in the 3rd.
I'm hoping Silfverberg gets on another role like he did in bingo once he got the feel of the game/league. I think if he improves his strength, he'll be a very effective all-around player
Actually Miguel is one of the better posters here.
My must read list would include
Miguel
Sandy
The Apostle
MoeDozer
Snoopy Senior
and of course SensChirp
You mean "others" like the guy you seem to think shouldn't be posting on here?
Quoting Hax:
I don't see why it's so hard to skip over people's posts that don't interest you. They all have a name on them and most have an icon so they're easy enough to spot.
and on to Hockey:
Agreed with most of you that I am disappointed that we could not keep DaCosta up here.
With Spezza out I would have thought he would easily slide into top 6.
Guess with Regin set to come back, they did not want him in the bottom 6.
This could be Regin's last real shot at top 6 with the Sens,
here is hoping that he finally takes the reigns and puts up some points.
Hope the Laffs take our Cardiac kids lightly tonight, and we surprise them with a much tireless effort and come out with the 2 points. Have to admit this never can die attitude is inspiring!
Go Sens GO!!!
Well when 90% of the posts on here are him blabbing about the same thing over and over it makes it hard. Sure I can skip over them...I usually do, but when there's nothing else to read because he discourages others to post it starts to ruin the site.
To be honest, he usually has interesting posts. It's when he starts nitpicking other people's comments and gets in the mode where he's literally posting 30+ times that it bothers me
Some (kingalfredsson and Sandy) have pointed out that someone had to go down to clear a roster spot for Lehner. One might debate Grant going down instead but my assumption (FWIW) is that they figure the top 6 is set as is since Smith is getting so much ice time in a shutdown role so it made more sense to keep Grant as a fourth liner than Da Costa.

Lehner came up to replace Anderson.
Da Costa was sent down to insert O'Brien
who was a healthy scratch for past 2 games ( actually a wrist problem vs Devils)
Hey Mr. "Knowledge", here are some tips:
- "There ARE more Leafs fans"
- "their" generation
- when you say "hence", you don't use "was" in front of it.
- FAVOUR
the "you-get" generation is only ONE generation, so it's not plural
Holy crap man!
In terms of the on-ice lineup you're absolutely right. And that's all that really matters in the end.
I have not seen you rant on that SOB Cooke yet.
Please if I missed it, post a rant in a way only the Peluso can, on raining blows down on him, so bad he regrets the day he ever put skates on in the first place!
Sorry still bitter we cannot watch our Orr walk around the leafs tonight,
Thanks everyone - on hb board they say that Andy is not being put on IR, which is why someone has to go down. Good news, that means they think Andy will be back real soon.
Seems the Sens plan to keep them out failed miserably.. and is going to make them awful to deal with in the stands this game for the Sens fans in attendance. The only way to shut them up is for the Sens to win... GSG
If they get drunk and disorderly.. have them kicked out.
Also, an off-topic...
For next year going to Bingo should be Noeson, Puemple, Ceci, Aneloski, Costello, Sdao -- my guess.. I don't know if anymore prospects 'graduate' to the AHL.
So how do they make room for them? There are not that many spots available in Ottawa. We know Gonchar, Lundin, Latendresse and probably Regin are gone. There is room for 2 more D and 2 more forwards. Where do they all fit?
Will it be the old quantity for quality trade for someone else?
Go Sens Go!
Gotta fly!
when I go to see them at the end of March.
We've got to take back the Bank ! As for tonight.......G o Sens Go !!
Not trying to start a war or anything but, you seem to comment on it quite a bit for someone who doesn't care what's said. We're all Sens fans here so in my opinion the more comments the better. It's not that Hax, Tookie, etc post too much.. It's that no one else posts enough. Long live the Chirp! We need another duck hunt to get posters bonding!
Cause and Effect actually.
I dont agree. I've never thought to my self, "whoa, Hax has posted like 11 times today so I better not". And if people don't post because they feel they may be criticized by others, this is the internet, those people would get destroyed on other blogs. I'd go as far as saying SC has the most well behaved and respectful followers I've seen on the internet.
make sure all you guys going to the game give that cheer long and loud whenever that bastard has the puck.
and don't worry about giving it straight back to any loser in a blue and white shirt tonight. the more push back they have, the quieter they'll be. it's a long way back to toronto after being abused for 3 hours straight.
GO SENS GO!!!!
see the end of #38
I guess I just can't see past my apparent man crushes for Tookie and Hax haha. So be it! Go Sens!
Peluso's the Man that should be making you feel different
Peluso's gotta step up his game. I mean, we're playing the leafs tonight.. Where's the hate?
i dont live in ottawa, but if you live in ottawa, go to sens games and are a sens fan, you have to be loud as hell.
Silf has been there since last year.
Go Sens Go
Hope he is forced to retire soon.
someone from hockey's narrow minded stubborn old guard has to say things like that because its pretty evident the game is at a place where its best players are not protected from idiots like cooke anymore.
He's getting the hits in, but his foot speed and puck handling need to improve a little bit.
:(
Pretty sure he will be back...i hope
He will. He has payed a total of 1 week in the NHL so far.
Couldn't have said it better myself!
Hitting the net is half the battle.. Phaneuf
Not so much the shot as Scrivens inability to control the rebound, but they all count. Good job on Condra in crashing the net. Get the puck on net and clean up the garbage
He's in his 5th NHL game... come on.. give him some time.
Haven't seen much of the game.. who is hurt now?
And already has 2 PTS!
Benoit got hit on the knee with a puck. Left the ice and did not return.
Mind you only a few minutes left in the period he maybe back.
You're missing a dandy game sandy! Benoit blocked a shot off the inside of his knee. Pretty sure it was just a stinger and he'll be back.
Grant... BSens need someo their players back.
lol
Where have you been the last 20 years?
SUCK IT LEAFS FANS
Sounds like he's sucked every dick on the leafs bench.
Nice win boys!
suck it phaneuf!!
attaboy zibby!!!
Suck it Leafs!!!!
Seriously, the old bastard was bad enough, now this fuckin clown?
Benoit was awesome tonite, broke up several 2 on 1's, danced around phaneuf on a great heads up play, and was awesome in our own end. great Job sense!!!
I agree, very strong game tonite.
Great game tonight. LEAFS SUCK!!!!!!!!!!
Loved it!
We just need 5000 of those people in the stands
If I won the lottery id buy every ticket for Toronto games and just give hem away to sens fans.
It's getting way out of hand
Regin
Also played without fear - more than one excellent shot blocks
Suck it Phaneuf
P.S.Tookie is either SensCHirp, or one of SensChirps buddy (pretty obvious). A good comment section has antagonists. It would be too many rainbows and predictable without them.
Lol. Wouldnt doubt it
HMMMM - he still had it on 10 minutes ago when I saw him mopping the floors at the McDonalds on Bank Street
I think I saw you tonight in your anti-leafs jersey!!
Great to see Zibby settling in and playing unbelievable hockey right now. That goes for all the young call-ups. Maclean and Richardson have done amazing things with these kids. This is going to be a great and exciting team for a long time.
I love the shot at the Sens bench when they scored that third goal. Again, it's great to see how pumped Alfie is. I don't think this is his last season. Him playing with these young kids has him playing like he's in his 20's again.
Love beating those leafs!!!
SensChirp used to do them a couple of years ago - they were fun.
singing my team broke my heart BLUES
And gentlemen in England now abed shall think themselves accursed they were not here, and hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks that fought with us
upon Saint Crispin's day
Yes and yes... it's always like that. Didn't see much of the game.. but their commentaters are Leaf supporters.. it's CBC.. that's a given.
Thanks for comin out. Maybe just stick to games in Toronto.
best moments for me all game were when zack smith bullied that prick Kadri and when methot hip-checked him into the air and then the ice.
I know he got injured but wasn't that a long time ago? Why isn't he back?
That's my thought exactly, shows what amazing character guys we have in the pipehole. I think Grant is a little too timid right now, but damn DZ is my kind of player!
The kids unreal, hes only 21 and should see some ice time when he's perfectly fit.
season ending hip surgery:
http://www.silversevensens.com/2013/1/30/3931446/top-25-under-25-no-16-andre-petersson
I know!
He's similar to DaCosta where he's not the biggest but has a stupid amount of skill.
Too bad he's injured right now. Would have probably gotten his first shot at the NHL.
Also too bad Hoffman and Stone are hurt too. Jesus Christ were deep. It's almost weird
The interesting thing will be - will Murray trade for O'Reilly - cuz he's the type of player with grit who would help us and you don't want Montreal or the Laughs getting him. We have extra bodies its a move that can be made. Zibby and Silf are untradeable though as they have been outstanding.
hoffman should be skating as early as monday - so next week for sure
Crappy coaching in Sweden last year - 1 or 2 concussions - first full season on North America small ice have all slowed his development.
His recent progress is VERY encouraging.
Oops sorry my friend, I accidentally have your comment a thumbs down. Had a few too many brewskis tonight and missed the thumbs up button lol
allow me to bring it back to equilibrium.
+1
Heard the same surgery as Cowen...
I still can't believe how well all the call ups have played this year. Wiercioch, Gryba, Benoit, DD have all impressed me for the most part, and our two new Swedish sensations Silf and Z-Bad are starting to show us all that they are the real deal!
Really wouldn't like to see either of them traded. I mean why?
Turris played against the top checking line of the Leafs.. as per Yost.. leaving the Zibby-Greening- Condra line to do all the damage. Each one had a goal.. and were +9 on the night..also as per Yost.
A line that should not be broken up... Chemistry appears to be there.
Will Regin get back in the lineup? Then again.. the B-Sens needs some of their players back. BSens had a 3-1 lead but end up losing 5-3..
TIMWRX -- what happened to Lawson?
LOL - please tell me that you're not driving.
Hahah never. Chillin on the couch watching the Wild/Flames game right now, thinking to myself that neither of these over spending teams can touch our Sens.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-vDDfZrSxTSE/USmAXT0e4DI/AAAAAAAAAP4/g4U4x0NR9K4/s512/ZackSmithLunge.png
Smith makes him look like a bitch
The boys were getting tired towards the 2nd half of the 3rd but Greening sure injected some energy into things right when it was needed most.
Speaking of beautiful, right behind the visitors bench was the winner of the world's ugliest Laffs fan. Woof.
So happy to see those delusional morons crawl home in tears. That's how you take back the bank. Keep winning at home and they will learn to keep away.
His Line 2 of Greening-Zibby-Condra,
provided the 3 goals ( 1 for each player
to win the game ).
Zibanejad has excellent face-off skills, and won the draw, to have Greening tap in the winning goal with 24 seconds left!
Until the return of Spezza, I would not dismantle that Line 2 combo whatsoever !
Knock those Habs down from their high horses, and bring them down to earth !!
GO SENS GO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !
I have a suggestion for the next games we could maybe have a live chat so that we can all talk about the game and our sens... Apparently you use to have something like that on the site.
Michalek-Spezza-Silfverberg
O'Reiley-Turris-Alfie
Greening-Zibby-Condra
Dziurzynski/Daugavins-Smith-Neil
So impressed by the team right now. Sometimes, you can't help but think about what would have been.
But it is what it is! Go Sens Go! Maclean for Jack Adams!!!!!!!!!
He sure is MISTER ARTICULATE.
When his hockey career is over it will take him about 10 minutes to get a job in broadcasting.
Colorado would NEVER make that trade.
28 other teams want O'Reilly - someone will overpay
If that's all that would be required to acquire O'Reilly he would be a Senator by now. Wishful thinking my friend. I would love for Murray to trade for O'Reilly but the cost of trading for him and then having to sign him to a contract is probably too steep for the Sens.
Besides, we don't need a trade right now, the boys are rollin!
The guy went to Cornell University man aha he's a smart kid
I suspect that he has set his sights higher. He'll start in the provincial legislature and then make his way back to Ottawa as a newf member of parliament.
Sandy I believe he is having some after effects of the hit from Scranton. He played well Friday night but was getting dizzy and had to be pulled.
Friday would have been a convincing win had he stayed and probably would have won saturday too had he been healthy. Chevrie will not cut it.
Fair enough - I can easily see that happening.
Red Kelly was an MP - Frank Mahovolich is a "Senator"
Methot on Kadri..look at Gryba... the polish scud missile. Scuds were never know for great accuracy.
