The Penguins are actually coming off back to back weekend losses to the New Jersey Devils but before that had won five straight games.
Sidney Crosby, who has been strangely quite against Ottawa in his career, has started to get going lately and now has 17 points through 12 games. Malkin is just behind him with 16 points. Finding a way to keep those two off the score sheet is going to be a key tonight.
On home ice, MacLean is able to get that Methot/Karlsson pairing out against the other team’s top line but without the luxury of last change, the other two defence pairings will have to hold their own against a skilled Penguins line up.
Patrick Wiercioch will come out of the line up and Andre Benoit will take his place. Just an optional skate for the Senators this morning but here is how they are expected to line up to start the game.
Michalek-Zibanejad-Alfredsson
Greening-Turris-Silfverberg
Condra-Smith-Neil
O'Brien-Da Costa-Daugavins
Methot-Karlsson
Lundin-Gonchar
Benoit-Phillips
Craig Anderson makes another start for the Senators. Marc Andre Fleury gets the nod for the Penguins. Puck drop is just after 7:00 PM on TSN and on the radio at Team 1200.
I am just being a realist boys, there is a good chance he never the same again.
Cooke should never have been allowed to continue in this league. A talentless piece of garbage like Cooke should not be allowed to potentially ruin seasons for players, or even their careers.
Come on man, tis was not done with intent, its a freak accident. Cooke hasnt had a roughinh penalty in his last 22 penalties. He used to be dirty but reformed his game. He's just a better version of Neil.
Karlsson & Spezza gone? Ok, so do we tank or not?
Thats not good news anyway you look at it.
He's gonna be out for the season and any possible playoff matches...
Bad luck is all...
SLACK FOR MACK!!!
Without Erik, we may as well all go buy our Seth Jones jersey's.
K, just wanted to make sure I wasn't alone on this.
Yah, we're going to tank and we have no choice in the matter
You really have to stop whining about it, its a routine check into the boards and sticks got mixed up and his sakte came down awkwardly. 9 out of 10 nothing happens...
Your just making yourself and other Sens fans look like little cry baby bitches...
Man up.
Still can't help but imagine how good we would have been with a healthy Spezza playing with Milo, Karlsson, Cowen in his second year.......
We were pegged to be one of the best teams in the East.
Dang :/

just fyi. just maybe not intentional, but with cooke's history - intentionally reckless for sure.
Obviously you never played contact hockey, its a routine pin gone wrong, he was trying to put his skate in between the legs of Karlsson to pin him to the boards.
Freak injury.
Detroit will know how the sens feel when detroit has lost: bertuzzi datsyuk white and howard (possibly more). That seems about fair for the amount of skill we've lost in:spezza regin karlsson michalek regin lat cowen (not including Stone Hoffman and peterson who could be playing for us right now).
Did your buddy Cooke "man up"?
Reckless play (I seem to remember quite a few Shanaban videos suspending players for reckless plays vs intent to injure)by the player with the longest rapsheet in the league.
"It's Matt Cooke. What else should I say? Watch the replay."
tookie honestly do you always have to be the contrarian man?
Was the shanaban on purpose because that is my new nickname for shanahan.
Shut the fuck up. A routine check into the boards does not involve ramming your knee up someones ass and then stomping down.
Yeah I dont think were gonna have any options in the matter, we are 2-4-1 in our last 7 games and thats with Karlsson...
I think we should go for Mack, I'm not liking what I'm seeing from Zibanejad and the rest of our young guys, we need another impact player other than Spezza on OFF.
Nothing careless about it, its a contact sport buddy, you should know that, sometimes you cant or dont control everypart of your body. No way Matt Cooke is even thinking..."ok here I cut Karlsson on exactly this angle to sever his tendon"....LOL come on man.
Your all flippin out and making Sens Army look like cry baby idiots.
Have your opinions man, no problems there. Have your ideas and hopes for this team who you claim to support. But, timing is everything and no one wants to hear your obnoxious dribble right now. Use your head and pick your spots. No one wants to hear it RIGHT NOW. I'm not saying I agree/disagree/ am offended , I'm saying maybe just give a day or so. This disaster just happened. I'm personally not worried about how we draft at the end of te year. I'm worried about my team NOW.
I only want MacKinnon because Jones will be in Karlsson's shadow. With Zibanejad, Turris and MacKinnon as natural centres, they can always interchange. And yes, we are already talking about the draft, like it or not.
I liked your original post better haha
How in hell you know what Cooke was thinking on this play. It's freaking Matt Cooke, the dirtiest turtle in the NHL. You are just trying to provoque right now,
Yes it does man, play contact hockey maybe you would know that...Its so routine you never notice it unless something like this happens, thats why itsa freak injury.
What you should be more concerned about is why isnt there more protection around the skate or the back of the shin pad. Last I checked you have zero padding on the back of your leg...U can bet now they will pay attention to that...
Absolutely dreadful.
I cant know what he's thinking but I can tell you a fact, he hasnt had a suspension in a year and a half and has only taken 22 penalties since last year and none for roughing...get over it, he changed his ways...was he the dirtiest player, yes, no question but he has reformed himself and is actually a pretty decent player when not serving games for suspensions.
............... ............... ............... .....
It's a slew foot where he's also throwing K's upper half into the boards from behind...
Either way, time to tank...
No 1 and 3 D gone for season.
NO 1 Center gone for season.
One of the youngest teams in the NHL
Murray will definitely look at all his options, thats for sure, its rumoured to be a very deep draft and with us still in rebuild, now more than ever, picks are a premium to have.
yea, its a stretch to say he had intent, but its totally fair to say that he is reckless and didnt think twice about where his skate was going.
here is to hoping that the sens dress an army of goons when they play the penguins next.
LOL who are you? You want to keep Anderson and let his stats/ value continue to deplete? Sure lets do that
They were stick fighting and if you look at the replay, Cooke loses his balance/slips backwards a tad which lifts his skate and then with the impact of the boards drives his skate back down to the ice...except Karlsson skate was in the way...Cooke wasnt even looking down folks...Get over it.
Alfredsson on Cooke hit: "I don't know if it was intentional. But why would you hit someone that way?"
now shut up already.
Silfverberg - Turris - Alfredsson
Zibanejad - MacKinnon - Stone
O'Brien - Smith - Neil
Why dont you quote some Pens players while your at it...I'm sure they will say it was a freak injury, or why dont you just listen to the Panel who say there was no intent whatsoever...
He's obviously never played contact hockey. He's just a whiner making the Sens look bad
-Tookie
If we have Perry I'm pretty sure Zib would be in that package. No way Mack plays 3rd line bro, lol.
MacKinnon - Spezza - Perry
Silf - Turris - Alfredsson/Hoffman
Noesen - Da Costa - Stone
O'Brien - Smith - Neil
Naw man. We wait till Perry hits the UFA. Why lose assets when he'll be a free man in July?
Cuz we have the assets to get him now, we wont win in a bidding war.
so you want me to defer the captain in favor of the panel which is made up of....aaron ward, darren pang and bob mckenzie ....who have played more hockey than daniel alfredsson i guess? right. did you know alfredsson was on the ice when it happened? i dont play contact sport let alone hockey, but dude there is no logic in your defense of cooke's act as being accidental. if it is accidental then why dont we see it more often. all hockey players get pinned against the boards every game, so this should be happening more often? right?
U cant handle the truth!

Normally love your contrarian flair, but what you're doing right now shows a real lack of social skills, even by the standards of an online sports comments thread.
