Boat Cruise for CHEO

As we crawl our way through another quiet day in August, I wanted to take the time to promote an exciting event set to take place next week.

On Wednesday, August 15 beginning at 7:30 PM, the annual boat cruise and fireworks spectacular will be held in support of Children’s Hospital of Eastern.  It promises to be one of Ottawa’s most unique and exciting events of the summer.

Looking for an activity for the whole family?  Or maybe a magical night with that special someone?  The boat has something for everyone. The 350 person party barge, which features 3 cash bars, a DJ and a front row seat for the spectacular fireworks show that night, will be hitting the open water for a great cause.

Raffle tickets will also be available for prizes including 1 Night Stay at Embassy Hotel, LCBO Prize packages, Gift Card's to Don Cherry's Kanata, East Side Mario's Bells Corners and Lago at Dow's Lake.

To reserve your spot on the boat, head over to this website and register under the “BC Tickets for SensChirp”.

I told the folks over at CHEO that we would have no problem selling some tickets so spread the word!  An evening of fun and entertainment for just $25 with all the proceeds going directly to CHEO.

Book your spot today!

Bobby Butler signs in Jersey, two way deal. I guess they found Parise's replacement. Maybe they can light a fire under his ass, because this is probably his last shot in the NHL.

Yeah I fully expect that he will burn us a couple times this season, always seems to be the way with our ex-Sens.

For his sake I hope he can turn shit around.

A Devils blogger is contemplating that BB16 could score 25 goals...

I wish him the best. He has to play in the top 6 to be of any value to a team.... It just didn't happen here.

Canada leading Russia 3-1 after 2 periods. It's great to be watching hockey.

How can the Sens get to draft Sean Monahan.... what a very good young player.

Same here! Time will tell if a change of scenery for the guy will have 1) The Turris Effect or 2) The Filatov Effect!

On another note that HockeyInsidrrrr rr guy is adamant that the stinkline Leafs have made an offer for Getzlaf! It sounds too horrifying to be true but seriously, what could the Leafs possibly offer their cupboards are so bare... Grabovski + Kadri + Lupul + 2 first rounders?

I wouldn't be surprised if that is what the asking price is.

I mean think about it, what would you want for Spezza (don't get into a debate about who is better... spezza or getzlaf.... just saying they are both top 10 centers in the league)

Would you trade Spezza for that?

If Getzalf actually is available, there's no way that the Leafs could offer up the best deal for Anaheim.

Monahan in a Sens jersey would be nice. He should end up being drafted anywhere from 3rd to 10th, depending on how others develop this winter. Still early to tell. But he's def a talented guy!

Here's a comment from the USA tournament blog concerning Noesen after a win against Sweden

Stefan Noesen — Noesen had a pair of assists playing on Team USA Blue’s most effective line with Kuraly and Lucia. He skates so well and plays tough. His best play included dropping a pass to Sieloff and kept his feet moving to draw a defender, leaving Lucia wide open to get the rebound and score. He just knows how to play the game. Don’t see any way he’s getting cut.

Burke may want Getzlaf by putting in that offer.. but will the Ducks give up a #1 centre to not get another centre back anywhere near the potential of Getzlaf? That makes the Ducks a worse team losing Getzlaf. I just can't see them doing it.

Kadri is a prospect who may at best be a 2nd or 3rd line player. Lupul just coming off a bad shoulder injury. Grabovski is the best player in that trade... and 2 first rounders which could be top 5 or 10 in the both drafts? For a team re-building Burke likes to give up his first rounders for a quick fix to save his ass. That would be 4 first round picks in 5 drafts that he has given away..

Leafs have a defensive coach in Carlyle... How do you think Kessel is going to do in that situation?

He is so desperately trying to get Getzlaf and sign Perry as a UFA.

Do you really think that the Ducks would let their 2 best players go?

Getzlaf is a year younger and scores twice as many points.

A comment from Gary Bettman:

"We reiterated to the union that the owners will not play another year under the current agreement."

Another quote:

"Mathieu Schneider, special assistant to NHLPA executive director Donald Fehr, wouldn’t go so far as to characterize the negotiations as “adversarial,” but he did concede that there were some tense moments between the two camps.

“At times there have been heated exchanges,” Schneider said. “There’s definitely strong opinions on both sides, especially when it comes to supplementary discipline, but I wouldn’t describe it as adversarial. Not at all.”

So gentlemen.. I really can see a lockout coming. Thanks Sather, Holmgreen and others like you... it's on your head.

I don't doubt he'd lock them out for the pre-season, would just be surprised if he was stupid enough to let it go into the regular season. Hockey cannot afford a lockout at this point in time.

I can't wait to hear cry ass Craig Leipold screaming poverty after he signed Suter and Parise to $100 million contracts. If these guys can't agree on a fair share between ownership and players they should drop revenue sharing and eliminate the teams that aren't financially viable. Less teams = better on ice product for the surviving markets where people actually give a shit about hockey.

My reasoning is that as a die hard fan, even I would stop spending money on hockey if there's anything beyond a 2 week lockout. I could only imagine the casual fan who will have football and basketball (both without a lockout) and an extended playoff season in baseball. By the time hockey would come back it would either be xmas shopping season or long after all the money people had budgeted for it had been spent.

The amount of revenue they'll lose by doing such an act could only be counteracted by another salary roll back and a very low player percentage of the revenue. They just finally got back into the national US tv market, they have several cities begging for a franchise and the product on the ice for the most part is pretty awesome.

There's just no sense to a lockout unless the owners are set on making sure they get 50% of the pie, in which case f them and we should all spend our money elsewhere. The players are only as greedy as owners allow them to be, so if the owners are in a pickle it's their own fault.

I don't mean get rid of the cap so teams like Toronto and New York can just outspend everyone. Maintain a cap/cap floor, and lose the sunbelt teams that give away tickets to make their barns look full. If you can't put 15,000 paying customers in the stands for 41 games, then you shouldn't be in a gate driven business. No other pro league relies on ticket sales as much as hockey. They will never get the tv revenue in the U.S. to justify paying salaries like the NFL, NBA, and MLB. If the players don't understand that, then kiss every fourth liner in the league goodbye when a dispersal draft allows the surviving teams to acquire the talented players left without teams. If I were the owner of a profitable team, why would I want to send money to Nashville so they can re-sign Shea Weber? So Tampa can sign Stamkos? It doesn't make sense.

I wasn't that far off... No way the Ducks do that deal, maybe not even with 2 first rounders...

‏@HockeyyInsiderr

#LEAFS offer for Getzlaf: 2013 1st rd+Grabovski+Ka dri+Frattin. #NHLDucks have 72 hours to accept the deal or @LeafsBB20 withdraws it. #WOW

Looks like Brian Burke is losing his mind once again, by giving "way too much" for Getzlaf. He shows complete insanity, in offering 3 good roster players plus a 1st Round pick for 1 player ??

He will be fired, if Leafs do not make the playoffs next spring !

If there is a lockout that delays the regular season at all, I won't be going to a single game this season(that I pay for)....My money will be going to an NFL game or two.

Not that my few tickets are going to make any difference, but it is out of principal.

I hope the SENS training staff is whipping this guy into shape. CUZ there's no telling what he can do with the SENS! Lefthanded shot - big body is what we've been lacking!

A little drunk tonight. Watching random youtube highlights of Sens stuff. Keep coming back to the Turris OT winner in game 4. G'daaamn what a shot. Cant get enough of it. On that topic...we still dont know what kind of player Rundblad will be in the NHL....maybe... someday. But wow does it ever look (to date) like we robbed Phoenix of something special. Cant waaaaaaaaait for October.

Cheers fellas...(and ladies)

I know we are all excited to see our prospects such as silfverberg this year but which player that is not a rookie/prospect do you think will surprise us the most?

Turris I think is going to have a breakout season but I think smith and methot are going to have much better years than last year. My prediction for methot is that he will get off to a slow start but as he adjusts, I think he will prove to be better than kuba.

What are your thoughts?

I'm definitely the most excited for Turris. These are the type of players I want playing for our team, people who really want to be here. For that reason, I think Turris is gonna be here for long and eventually have a letter slapped on his jersey
