The Ottawa Senators have shown an interest in Brassard in the past. Born in Hull, Quebec, Brassard is just 24 years old but like most of the Columbus team, has struggled in the early going this season. He has just two goals and two assists through 15 games.
Last night Brassard was a healthy scratch leading many to believe he may have played his last game with that organization. Brassard comes with a cap hit of $3,200,000 over the next three seasons.
Based on speculation from around the internet, the Senators are not the only team showing an interest but they are definitely in the mix. The contact speculated that Patrick Wiercioch could be a player the Sens include in discussions with the Blue Jackets.
It did not sound like anything was imminent as of last night but the two teams are definitely talking. Will update the blog if any additional information becomes available.
A deal around Wiercioch would be sweet. We have enough D coming up the pipe.
I hope we don't trade any 2012 second round picks away.
I also think that brassard would be a solid addition to our club!
Go SENS!
If this deal happens I could see the team turning some of our centres into wingers...Ziban ejab comes to mind and imo he would be a great winger with very good speed, good hands and a nose for the net.
True and also solves any concern for Zibby's faceoff woes.
i believe its on rogers ch.22 at 430. 67s game is at 1 and they have priority
You cannot overpay some one with a team that has a cap hit of 51.864m and are heading to about 45m next year (with out including that we will be paying Karlsson about 5m next year) and is rebuilding with draft picks not signing big players.
His best season was last year 17 goals and 30 assists for 47 points in 74 games.
Might be the 2c Sens are desperately looking for.
IMO, foligno aint going nowhere. He is one of the hardest workers on this team night in and night out. If anyone on the curent sens roster gets traded, IMO, it will be Lee. He doesnt get near the playing time he needs to develop. Lee and Brassard are two players that can greatly benifit from a change in scenery. Columbus could use a shut down defencemen with fair bit of upside.
How about lee to Minnesota for heatley? Then bury heatley in the minors until. He paysis back that bonus.Haha...
In this instance, what I am saying is that the two teams have held discussions. There are other teams that would love to add Brassard.
Like I said in the post, as of last night, nothing is imminent.
Brassard has 2 more years after this, so it's not like we are tying ourselves down long term if we do acquire him and he's not what we want in the future.
I partially disagree with you about his cap hit. 3 mil is about right for a 50 point center if there is consistency.
of a Butler or Da Costa that may take a little more thought,
Travis Yost was reporting that Butler is falling out of favor,
with MacStash but I thought he was playing better the last 2 games not great but better ,when he came last season he had Spezza as his center and not as much pressure to perform
This year half the team are in the same boat ,I kinda hope the Jackets are looking at a couple d-men for Brassard and try to get forwards from a later trade,I would hate to part with any forwards at this time ,,been wondering what the story with Carkner is it seems to be taking a while for him
get back
Maybe they should trade lee instead for him to get the chance to play on the other team instead of sitting in the box.
go sens go
To me, P. Kuba is the most likely trade. He's playing well again and has a high salary.
As much as I would love to trade Kuba for Brassard, we would have to give them someone else or a decent draft pick.
Gonchar is not going anywhere or Phillips.
Was it not the blue jackets looking for Foligno a year or so ago.
Foligno Kuba for Brassard and a pick.
Scratch that, Columbus does not have cap space
Agreed... was at the game-- they have a long way to go. That 4th goal against on Lehner was a bad one...
The B-Sens lost a lot of players this offseason -- in particular 4 of their experienced D... that's hard to replace.
Having Locke & Grant out and Daug in Ottawa.. that's not helping either.
Chirp, there was rumours that Murray was also interested in bringing back Vermette. Have you also heard that?
This year we struggle with extra players but at the end of the season, the deck is cleared.
We bring back who we want.
DaCosta
Foligno
Regin
Winchester
Konopka
Daugavins
Filatov
Kuba
Karlsson
Lee
Carkner
Auld
contracts are up end of season
So far Dacosta Foligno Daugavins Karlsson are the only ones I would like to see resigned.
This year is kind of a tryout for these guys.
That's a fake twitter account.... Although that doesn't change the fact he's a moron....
Greening Spezza Michalek
Silverburg Brassard Alfredsson
Foligno DaCosta Butler
Daugavins Smith Condra
Filatov Zibby Neil
Karlsson Cowan
Phillips Rundblad
Gonchar ???? (Lee Carkner Borwecki Gryba)
Anderson Lehner
We are still overfull on Forwards but D is cleared, more looking at the team than lines.
Lots of bodies to move via trade, for those that have trade value.
Filatov-Brassard-Zibby
Speed,Skill,Siz e,Grit...this line could potentially be unstoppable.
Trade Rumor: To #Sens Derick Brassard, To #CBJ Jakob Silfverberg & David Rundblad #nhl -
They better be adding Silfverberg is a piece I wouldnt trade away
Add in Michalek too, also former 6th overall.
Quoting FAIL4NAIL:
Came from a fake twitter account. Guy is trying to be funny.
Just maybe....
Came from a fake twitter account. Guy is trying to be funny.
..Thanks cause I would have freaked lol
Can you say overpayment by Ottawa? NO WAY... can't see that.. why trade one of the potential corner stones of your D? And another young winger with lots of potential.
What does Kypreos know? He only follows the Leafs.
Sorry added this prior to seeing that is was a fake twitter account.
Try reading previous posts.
Think how great it would be to see Spezza feeding him pucks on the wing next year, and Michalek strengthing our second line...
YOU DON'T KNOW YOU'R HOCKEY!
Brassard is and will always be a top six player....
In what league?
Because it sure ain't as hell the NHL...
I love your comment "is and will always be a top six player" - he's on the fourth line on the worst team right now...
...and in your world, he will be a top six player forever and ever. Wow - you sure know your hockey!
D.B=20GOALS
THATS NOT 4TH LINE BUDD!
I think Bassard would help but would not want to give up to much for him...
Have you forgotten to take your medication this evening?
DB = 20 goals? WTF? You'd have to go back to his days in the QMJHL to find the last time he's done that...Tell me this - if he is so freakin awesome, then why would Columbus trade him? I wouldn't trade away a guy who is guaranteed to give me a least 20 goals every year....would you???
Craig Anderson
David Rundblad
For
Derek Brassard
Steve Mason
NICE!

He had 9 goals in 2009 ...17 goals in 2010 .... Now they have Carter Johanson and Vermette ..No room for Brassard ...thats why
And we should take that and run.
So when Edmonton traded Gretzky was he underachieving too? Players get traded, even the good ones.
you think its that easy to sign a 3 time 30+ goal scorer, and captain of the Devils away from them. If they can't sign him to an extension, they'll trade him. Plain and simple. OTtawa won't get Parise, period. Yeah it'd be nice but so would having sidney Crosby and Taylor Hall
Bit of a different situation than Crosby or Hall...Parise is a UFA after this season and is unhappy in NJ - Kovalchuck took care of that - so they can go ahead and trade him, but he'll still be a free agent on July 1st...Why wouldn't he at least consider Ottawa? We have the cap space, a premier centremen for him to play with, and arer supposedly rebuilding to be a contender for many years to come...
I understand good players get traded lambchop, but I don't think Howsen is looking for $15 million and three first round picks for Brassard...
Mason Raymond on the other hand..is an intriguing possibility depending on his health.
Where did u see this ?
No. He isn't unhappy. He's fine. He's the captain. Parise doesn't hit free agency, we have to look elsewhere.
"---Bobby Butler continues to struggle, and you have to wonder now if the coaching staff is considering a change inside of the top-six. Butler's managed to score just two points (0G/2A) in nine games this season, and hasn't done a whole lot of creating in the offensive zone. Sure, alternatives are limited, but how long can the coaching staff continue to ignore the very real potential in one Nikita Filatov? I'm not sure Filatov's going to produce, but at this point, there's no reason to suggest that Bobby Butler's more worthy of the TOI."
Now I ask you. When's the last time Bobby Butler was top six on this team this year?
Checked out Butler in which he played top six, and had to go back to pre-season.
Sep21... Filatov - Zibanejad - Butler
Sep23.....Filatov - Spezza - Butler
Sep27 .....Butler demoted to Line 3
He then got injured, and has not found his mojo
and not had top six minutes in regular season !
Who knows what will evolve with Butler in his career ??
He had top six minutes with PP time against the rangers but failed to show anything.
It's save to say that BB continues to struggle.
Agreed- and maybe throw his name in the mix as possible trade bait for Brassard...?
He was there for sure against the Rangers, i'm not sure if he had other opportunities, but he's clearly not performing at all and really doesn't belong in the top 6 at all if he continues like that..
And what does it matter if he's from NY?
http://nhl.com/vote
Alfie,Spezz,Michalek,Gonchar,Karlsson,Lundqvist
Ozzy I voted the exact same
Had the same but put Anderson as a write-in candidate in goal.
OK, I’ll write in Anderson when I create another account. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to write him in. That .888 save % made me lazy.
He's from outside boston
Thought about doing that but Michalek definitely deserved a vote with the start he has had.
I maxed out my voting with that combo.
Alfie, Spezza, Michalek, Gonchar, Karlsson, Anderson
I think Spezza, Karlsson, Michalek def. deserve to play for the All Star Team... if you can put up points as such on a rebuilding team... 'nuff said!
GO SENS GO!!!!!
I was positive he was from Long Island...
Michalek, alfie, spezza, karlsson, chara... Flower in the cage. X30
I love how they put alfie first on the list, nhl is really trying to get him in this game it seems
That's ok, but while I admire your loyalty to the home team, I see it as further proof that voting for the all-star game should not be done by the fans...
As much as it seems that way, it's alphabetical order.
Kuba, Lee, Weir, Butler and a pick (4?)
Sorry for the trade proposal....bor ed @work...
hahaha
dear god man....has the world gone mad!? were aloud 5 forward lines now?
I still think we look to improve on the wing through free agency next year, though. Particularly if Alfredsson chooses not to come back.
