Sens Get Back in the Win Column

After an ugly loss in Buffalo just 24 hours ago, it looked like the Sens were ripe for the picking against the rival Maple Leafs.

Well that's not the way the Senators saw it.  Ottawa dominated the special teams game, got a solid effort from Craig Anderson and scored a much needed 5-2 win at the ACC in Toronto.

Anderson got the hook early last night in Buffalo but Paul MacLean went right back to him in a big Saturday night contest.  Anderson was up to the challenge.  He stopped 31 of 33 Leaf attempts and was strong in the third period when the Leafs tried to get back in the game.

This really was a hard-working, textbook road game by the Sens in which the often unheralded supporting cast carried the Sens to victory.  After an ugly first period, Ottawa was able to find their legs over the final forty and pick up an important two points.

Nick Foligno scored a couple, including a power play goal to give the Sens the lead for the first time.  Meanwhile, Zack Smith played what had to be his best game as a Senators.  He picked up a goal and an assist (now has 9 points on the year) and was a force on the PK.  Finished with 16:20 in ice time and had a +2 rating.

Also got some serious praise from Don Cherry post-game.

Nice game for Jesse Winchester too.  Played 14:53 and actually took the spot of Stephane Da Costa on the team's second line during the third period.  Clearly MacLean wanted to go with a more defensively responsible player with the team up a couple goals.

Tonight's win snaps the Sens five game losing streak and ensures that they will head to the West Coast on a high note.  Ottawa takes on Calgary on Tuesday and visit the Oilers on Thursday.

Second empty net goal is now being credited to Milan Michalek. His 11th of the season.

Great game by Andy and the boys, and the Laughs score on their own net to boot... does it get any better than this?

It is a great win X two, we picked up two points and the Laughs did not get two.

There were some great hits from our boys tonight, the pathetic hockey night in Canada guys were not excited about them but I was, I had to laugh when they kept calling Anderson the other goalie.

The penalty kill was spectacular tonight for the sens. Props to Zack Smith, Daugavins, Philips, Winchester and of course Craig Anderson. Karlsson continues to develop into an elite defensman.

NHL should introduce an 'own goal' like soccer. No Sens player should get credit for that last goal.

ALWAYS A GOOD NIGHT WHEN WE BEAT THE LEAFS!!!! Whooohooo!!!!

Closer of a game than the scores show, but the role-players came out tonight and grabbed us a win. Feel good moment after nick got a high stick, then came back out and scored. He's been getting a lot of flack from a lot of people on here..:but o kind of like him and the energy he brings to the game...even though he doesn't have much of a finish. Not everyone can/should be a sniper.

While we're headed for the lottery this season, humiliating those clowns on their own ice never gets old

Whats absolutely great is the leafs could go from bragging about being the number 1 team in the league last week, to being tied for 9th at the end of this one!

p.s. Senschirp, any word on wether an ignore feature is possible? It would be nice to have the trolls only talking to themselves, and leave the forum for true Sens fans. Plus you wouldn't have to monitor everything as the clowns would be left in the dark.

Interesting to look at the divisional standings. While a clear spread has started to appear in 4, the Northeast and Pacific divisions continue to be very tight and could change dramatically within just 2 or 3 games.

P.S. Chirp, I like how you are letting most games speak for themselves this season and not rushing out with immediate analysis following a loss. Your analytical comments seem to be best once they've had a chance to simmer over night.

Keep it up & keep on keepin' on.

Go Sens go.

Zack Smith is beast. Definitely a force to reckon with. Hope he sticks around for when our three 1st rounders, Silfverberg, Prince, Pageau, among the few crack the team as well.

Enjoyed the game and the win at the ACC tonight. Best part was listening to the CBC Leaf homers having to eat it once the Sens took over.

It's always good to beat the Leafs; I don't care if it's our first win in 6 games. Leafs suck.

Nice to see the Leafs, will now fear facing our Sens,
and will have to forever live with, "own goal " empty
netter credited to last Sens player, which was Michalek.

GO SENS GO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That Toronto own goal was awesome! What? 175 feet, right in the middle of the net!

Nothing sweeter than watching the Sens beat the Leafs in their own barn with 3 other Leaf buddies watching :)

Great goal, really nice of him to help us out like that, sad that he does not get credit for it, kind of a highlight goal of the week.

However it puts Michalek closer to knocking Kessel out of the top scorer position in the league.

Mentioned this on Twitter but it was funny to see Gunnarsson pick the puck out of the net and start skating it out like he was playing a pick up game.

Sorry Carl. That one counts.

Here are the options:
Sens are working a trade with Edmonton for Sam Gagner.
Or
Sens are working a trade with Columbus for Derek Brassard
Or
Sens are going to pick up off Nik Hagman off re-entry waivers from the flames...

Sound about right Chirpster???

i think Foligno's ability to finish is under-rated. he has a pretty decent shot and he's typically very good in close digging out the dirty goals.no reason to think he wont put up 20 this year which is certainly respectable.
