Cardiac Kids Strike Again- Filatov Called Up

(UPDATE- 10:34 PM)- Daniel Alfredsson left the game in the third period and it sounds like the injury could keep him out of the line up tomorrow night.  The Sens have recalled forward Nikita Filatov from Binghamton of the AHL.  Great chance for the kid to show what he can do with the big club.

The fifth straight win came in style!

The Ottawa Senators stunned the MSG faithful with a furious third period rally that nobody saw coming.  Well except for anyone that has watched the Sens this year. They will not go down without a fight!

When Richards scored to put the Rangers up 4-1, it looked like it was going to be a walk for the Blueshirts the rest of the way.  That was until I remembered I was watching the Ottawa Senators.

Another stunning third period rally led by a pair of goals by Jason Spezza and Ottawa came all the way back to steal a point from New York.  With those two goals, Spezza is now just a point back in the NHL scoring race and continues to carry this Sens offence.

Ottawa moved to 3-0 in the shootout against a very tough goalie in Lundqvist.  Michalek (who also tied the game in regulation) scored the lone goal for the visitors and Anderson kept everything out of his net.

It was overshadowed by the third period comeback, but Daniel Alfredsson left the game after a cheap shot from Wojtek Wolski.  He will be facing a lengthy suspension.

Ottawa is right back at it tomorrow night when they go for their sixth straight against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

GO SENS GO!!

I cant believe what is going on with this team, freaking astounding... another great comeback filled with hard work and heart in support of our fallen Captain.. Wolski better get a hefty suspension, there was no need for what he did... and if you look at the replay of the hit you can see Wolski look right at the ref afterwards thinking he got away with it.

It was also bushleague that Konopka got 5 and a game while Wolski only got a 2min. The refs need to start keeping there calls consistent because this is getting out of control and also really frustrating.

but anyways huge character win tonight and hopefully our Captain is not out long term, hopefully he was only pulled for precautionary reasons.

GSG!

Wolski best keep his head up on November 9th. Assuming he's not still suspended by then.

In fact he might get 5 games just to keep him out of that Ottawa game.

We deserved to win that game. We were walking away with it until the garbage call on Konopka that changed the game. I have no problem with a penalty there, but a misconduct was the wrong call.

I am very impressed with the way we haven't given up until the final buzzer. Anderson hasn't been anything special, but he has been good enough.

Niko

Keep it going against those laughs.

Other thing that make you go hmmmmm. Richards has a three point night, en route to failing to win and leading his team in a monumental collapse. Spezza has the equivalent 2 goals and an assist while leading his team to victory in an exciting fashion to extend the win streak to 5. HNIC in Canada first star......Brad Richards!

Wolski better get the fuckin book thrown at him, 10 games. you can't get more blatant and deliberate than that. If Wiz got 8 Wolski BETTER get at least 10!

Wow, flatout WOW! at 4-1 I still had hope, right after the faceoff when Richards scored we got the puck deep and KEPT it there, for each minute played the Rangers had the puck for 5-10 secs, the Senators the rest. I said in my mind HERE THEY GO AGAIN! Never turn your back on this team people! I said after 7-1 and 7-2 they just have to figure it out, Well I think it's safe to say they have!

I pvr'd the game and I'm just about to watch the game starting after Richards made it 4-1, Hell after it's done I may watch it again!

Blads didn't score so he's got to score tomorrow for me to be right on my predicting his 1st goal this weekend. He played well though! Call on Konopka was a fuckin JOKE!

Bring on the Laffs and Scrivens lol

6 in a row tomorrow night!

Wow, what a game! The way they ended last season strongly and now this solid stretch once they got their new system together...that ain't coincidence folks. I consider myself an Sens optimist but even I never imagined us sitting at 5th place in the East 11 games in, even if just for a fleeting few moments.

Terribly lethargic first period by both teams, but the Sens were calm and tenacious, they certainly deserved this win (again) not a fluke win.

Hopefully Alfie is fine. That was one cheap hit and I'm positive a suspension of at least 3 games is looming. The hit, at least on camera didn't look that *devastating* though, I was surprised it took Alfie out of the game, as I said we all hope he will be fine.

Big game tomorrow. I'm all for giving Lehner a shot but how you can sit Anderson with the hot streak he;s been on.

Sleep happy! Go Sens!

Its like Wolski wanted to get back at him...

Idiot put his head down AND TURNED. Doing so while Konopka was coming. Maybe a 4 minute... certainly not a 5

It's the type of hit they are trying to eliminate so Shanny better do his job and not be a hypocrite.

I'm going to watch closely and see if anything happened between Alfie and fagski
Quote

+1 #12 Rundbladsson 2011-10-29 18:14
Something did happen

At 8:23 of the 3rd there was a faceoff deep in the Rangers end and Fagski threw a hit on Alfie back of the net right off the draw, seemed like it took awhile for them to get back in to the play. Than right back down the ice before the 8 minute mark Fagski blindsides him. Alfie probably shoved him back after the hit (which was a little late) or gave him a tap and that likely was followed by some chirping

Get the prick on retaliation too!

TBH I think Alfie is alright... there was no point really letting him still play after the team was down 4-1 at the time and it is also good that Alfie wasn't speaking to the media after the game.. might help the teams cause in getting Wolski "SHANASLAMMED!"

I don't even know what to say to that.

I love that the Sens came back to win this one...but because of that....the BS Konopka call and moreso the Alfie head shot might not be taken as seriously by the league.

We may as well of lost this game 7-1 if it would have gotten the attention of the league that this game was badly officiated.

On that note...good win....good energy from our team that no-one expected much out of.

PS.. Please let Alfie be ok. Not so much for playing games, but moreso for his health.

Great game by the Sens. They are just so fun and exciting to watch right now.

Anderson needs to play better and Da Costa looked a little weak on the puck at times.

At the end of the 2nd, beginning of the 3rd. There was too much individual effort but we came around to win again. Amazing.

Honestly, I'm as sick as anyone else is about the media bias towards the Leafs. To call that hit that Konopka laid on whoever it was "right between the numbers" is rendered false simply by watching the replay. That wasn't even a minor penalty.

As for Alfie, dirty hit and Wooly should get suspended. Let's see if Shanny has the guts to beat on his former team.

And yes, there is a bias amongst NHL officials. It's not perception, it is 100% bias. But it goes far higher than the ice level. How else can you explain the powderpuff schedule that the losers from Toronto got? Look at all those home games! Look at all those non-playoff teams! I fully expect Ottawa to be in the penalty box at least 4 or 5 times more than the Leafs tomorrow, and it won't be justified. I'm just praying for a win.

Karlsson is out of this world - skates like he has a rocket up his ass. Sens are amazing. Our Junior prospects r on fire Stone and Pageau. Saw pageau play friday the guy is fast and skilled. He has 14 goals - climbing the scoring ranks fast. Has played 6-7 games less than everyone else.

Also, article in Journal de Montreal this morning saying SENS are most active team after TURRIS - saying Murray wants him for 2nd line center and that he fits perfectly into rebuild.

Refs for sure need to up their game if they want us to lose tonight.
anyone else see some brown on Macleans nose about the refs.

I think it was a good move for PM towards them not having so much of a hate for us, hope it was effective.

I watched the leafs last night cheering for Philly, they are fast and not as much of a goon squad, at least last night.
I hope we spank them bad tonight, we both want to knock each other down a peg with a win.

Coldn't agree more. Out of all our picks this year, most of you will probably be surprised when Pageau ends up with the best career. Kid is the second coming of Giroux except he will probably need a year of AHL after junior once he bulks up. I'm calling it right now, Pageau will lead the Q in points this year, even with playing less games.

What is the size of Pageau? Doesn't he seem like he may be the next Corey Locke???

Strongly believe that Shanahan will suspend both Konopka and Wolski, at least 3-5 games, for their illegal and dangerous hits !

This is the reason for calling Filatov up, and we may also see Butler in the lineup, should Alfie not be ready .

Difference between Locke and Pageau is that Pageau can actually skate like the wind.

to me, Pageau seems more like a giroux-lite than a Locke upgrade !

Very exciting win last night. I thought the first two periods were a snoozefest but things really picked up in the third.

I'm going to be cautiously optimistic about these wins. We've been playing great hockey the last five games but without Spezza we wouldn't have won any of them. The man is on a mission this year so let's hope that he stays healthy for a full 82 games. It's like coach Maclean said, Spezza's the straw that stirs the drink.

Hopefully Alfie will be okay, we really do need him. Without him we don't have a second line. Wolski better get a hefty suspension for that hit.

In regards to the Konopka hit, he did not hit him right between the numbers but it was still a dangerous play. Paul Maclean said himself that it was a dangerous play and he expects Shanahan to take a good look at it.

Also, quit your bitching about the officiating folks. Honestly you sound like a bunch of babies. Do you think the team is worried about the reffing? I highly doubt it. Blaming the refs is a cop-out. It's what bad teams do.

I can just tell we're going to hear a lot of whining by some of you tonight.

The game against the leafs tonight will be our biggest test since the Philly game. They're a young and fast team with some decent firepower and regardless of what some of you homers say, they are a pretty good team.

This is a match up between two of the most exciting teams in hockey right now and we'll get to see two Art Ross/Rocket Richard/Hart trophy favorites go head to head in Kessel and Spezza.

The book better be thrown at Wolski. And hopefully Alfie isn't out with concussion type syndroms.

This is a good opportunity for Filatov now who's been seasoning in Bingo.

I really hope Neil goes after Phag-nuf and makes him pay for the Da Costa hit last game.

...I'm wondering where the "FAIL FOR NAIL" Camp are hiding? Come on boys, you were very passionate about the 1st overall pick two weeks ago - why so quiet now???

" I'm calling out the "Fail4Nail" losers, not planning a parade"!

Before you start running off at the mouth
Fail4Nail doesn't mean tanking the season on purpose ..It means if we end up losing we get Nail lol ... win win

I hope Neil doesn't go after Phaneuf and make him pay for the DaCosta hit. Phaneuf shouldn't have to pay for a clean hit on a player cutting across the blue line. One of the things that is most annoying about hockey these days is guys having to fight for throwing a clean hit. Does the unwritten code Don Cherry speaks of say that players are not allowed to throw a clean check unless they are willing to fight some goon who then comes after them?

Dare I say the P word TOOKIE !!??
PLAYOFFS BABY !!! Let's end this weekend with a Leafs whoopin !! GO SENS

Lets not get started on this again. We're all pleased with the resiliency of the Sens right now but you have to remember that we're playing a weak crop of teams right now. Prior to last night, the Rangers were having difficulties scoring goals. They were playing awful hockey. The rest of the 4 or 5 wins, our opponents have been sub-par at best.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for our team and they do deserve these victories. However, as quickly as we are to get on this winning streak, we could easily get on an equally bad losing streak. It's just the nature of a young developing team, which for me, makes for an exciting season.

Tonights going to be our hardest test. The leafs forechecking is going to be relentless though. You know how well the Sens play when they're getting viciously for-checked.
