The absence of the Captain represents a good opportunity for other players to step up. Kaspars Daugavins, who had a strong camp with the big club and continued that run in the early going in Bingo, will get his shot tonight. Daugavins has been a leader down in Binghamton and has definitely earned this opportunity.
Obviously this is a big game for First Round pick Mika Zibanejad as it will be his 9th in the NHL. Murray spoke with the media yesterday and gave the impression that he is still undecided on what to do with the 18 year old. It sounds Paul Maclean would like to keep him around here so it should be interesting to see what the Sens end up doing.
Was told earlier this morning that the team is leaning towards sending him back but want to wait and see what happens with a couple injured players first. Murray also suggested that he could sit Zibanejad for a couple games before making a decision.
Here is how the Sens lined up at the morning skate...
Greening-Spezza-Michalek
Foligno-Zibanejad-Daugavins
Condra-Smith-Neil
Konopka-Da Costa-Winchester
Gonchar-Cowen
Kuba-Karlsson
Phillips-Rundblad
Puck drop comes just after 7:00 PM tonight with all the action available on TSN or on the radio at Team 1200. For those of you looking for a stream, keep an eye on the comment section as one usually pops up throughout the day.
I can!
I can't. I never learned to REAAAAD!!!!!
;)
Well as long as you can see it!
Carolina's going to win this one tonight.
Da Costa's had more then 2 good periods. Also he was injured for a bit and hasn't gotten the opportunity some others have. Out of all the people to single out, it should not be him.
An evening of Pink Floyd followed by a commercial free Sens game!
(Don't spoil it by telling me score!)
Out of these two who should the senators draft?
1.Alex Galchenyuk
2.Filip Forsberg
3-1 Ottawa.... Sorry for the spoiler
He's the only other player on the roster that has a 2 way contract so i can't really single out any other player.
He's the only guy we could demote without having to clear waivers.
Then dont look on here...
I was all for sending Zibanejad back to SEL but with the lates Alfie injury, we might need him more here. His minutes might go up a bit and he would most certainly be penciled in the top 6...
Didnt take long for Alfie's issues to pop up, anyone think this will linger all season?
Yakupov!
This is the kid the prospect I would like to see Murray draft in the second round or third someone compared him to Johan Franzen.
Wouldn't mind that outcome...
Also, Zibby should be sent down. Bring him back next year when we could actually use him, and when he's faster and stronger.
Then dont look on here...

It's a his hip flexor Tookie, it's probably been lingering his whole career. He'll be fine, it's not his back.
3.5 hours to go time!!!!
PS - Cowen, clean open ice hit on Staal - thank you.
With Regin, Butler and Alfie injured we have just enough for a full forward lineup, even if Filatov gets called up there's no reason to send Da Costa down, just sit Konopka.
Rundblad, Karlsson, Cowen all have 2ways.
Im sure Konopka will take some draws as well.
@spezzafan19: I'd rather get Yakoupov but if I had to choose between though two I would go with Filip Forsberg because he is more of a scorer whereas Galchenyuk is more of a passer. Also, Forsberg is a winger and Galchenyuk is a centreman. We already have Spezza and Zibby penciled in as our first 2 centremen, so I'd rather draft a scoring winger for Spezza than a pass first centreman.
I guess I should have specified, I meant the only forward. I just don't see how Da Costa has earned a roster spot any more than Filatov. I believe there is a lot more upside to Filatov's game that's all.
Neither, LOL
Not enough is known on Forsberg and Galchenyuk is out for the season with knee surgery...
The clear cut winner is Yakupov...
I say Forsberg then next year we can have a new Blue & Gold third jersey
?!?! your loving this line up?
You must like the slow flow or broken play types of hockey games, not much talent on those lines. Its gonna be a grinder tonight, well it is most nights...
4-2 Carolina...
Because the season is over, LOL, havent you watched a game, we beat Jets, Wild & Blue Jackets...not anything worth talking about...
They're saying hip flexor but I have a feeling its more than that!
Seriously man, why do you even bother coming on here??? Like the question needs to be asked. I'm not going to get baited into one of your little games like most other people on here do but why do you even bother? Do you have that much free time? I'm jealous!
You forgot to mention that all 3 of those teams we beat were playing their second game of back to back nights.
Yakupov is still very possible :) especially if Spezza or Karlsson miss any significant time
Yeah alot of people (Sandy in particular) keeps reminding us that we play the Leafs on the second of our back to backs, yet doesnt acknowledge the fact that our wins have come on the second of our opponents back to backs. Gotta be equal Sandy...
Even with Spezz and Karlsson healthy, at about the 20 game mark our team will hit the dreaded wall...but I will admit, Jets, CBJ will give us a run for our 1st pick overall!
I dont know, I wont be surprised if Carolina plays the back up card...
Da Costa needs to step up again, he came out of the gate showing some wow but sort of invisible the last few games.
Going to be interesting to see who steps up tonight with Alfie out.
I keep waiting for Rundblad to break out, at least with some good shots on net
or even Cowan
This organization and fanbase are starving for a player like Yakupov. He's a player who can step out on the ice and be an offensive threat every shift and strike fear into the opposition. Players like Nail can lift an entire team up because so much of the oppositions efforts are focused on shutting him down.
The Senators need this type of player. We need Yakupov.
Success is detrimental to the rebuild!!
ALL HAIL KING NAIL!
THIS!!! Look at the long term pain the Pens, Hawks, and to a lesser extent the Caps had to go through. Absolute shit teams but out of that came drafted superstars, and these teams are winning and contending for cups now. Do we really want to be like the Leafs and meddle about it mediocrity for the next 7 years? HELL NO!!
SHORT TERM PAIN, LONG TERM GAIN! Let's do this right or not at all!
If we can add Yakupov to the likes of Zibanejad, puempel, Noesen, Stone, Silfverberg and company, we'll be set up extremely well for the future.
We just need that one true superstar to lead us into the future. Short term pain is the key statement here PraiseAlfie. We're really only goin to have to suffer for a year or two.
http://chilisports.strikehost.info
Well this is where the line gets drawn between Sens fans. There are so many with the "win now" mentality, that they don't realize winning NOW means losing LATER. I'm fully prepared to watch this team come dead last for the next 2 seasons and start destroying people in '13-'14 instead of drafting between 5th-15th for the next 5 years and being a bubble playoff team...
That's just an example, but this team will become a hotspot destination for UFA's if we can add that elite talent.
Wrong!
Not really Round Leaf but he better step up in year 1 and not take 3 years to develop. The team who drafts Yakupov 1st will get a NHL rdy player right away and I believe he will make an impact that very year. Forsberg, even Galchenyuk and Grigorenko, I dont think will have half the impact of Yakupov.
For every Pitt there is a Florida or Atlanta. For every Detroit there's a Carolina or St Louis.
Neither way is a sure fire solution to a rebuild, it all starts with the GM making good picks at whatever spot he gets to pick from and trading up if he feels that strongly towards a prospect.
Failure is not an option for the players and should not be satisfying to any fans.
You're right, failure isn't an option for these players, but if you take a second to look at our god-awful roster, you will notice that failure is pretty much all their capable of.
Sure they will have some good nights like the did against the jackets, but this team is going to lose A lot more than they'll win.
I want this team to be among the elite in the league, but I'm no fool to think that the product we have on the ice is capable of being that.
I don't cheer for them to lose, I'm quite happy for them when they win. I just know that they won't be winning very often.
Carolina won a Cup....did you forget? Florida and Atlanta never got an elite 1st pick, other than Kovalchuk.
St.Louis are on the up and up! Only Florida is valid, but they have idiots running that team...
After all the team has done the last week, I'm sorry you feel like somehow this is an accurate representation of this year's roster.
@Tookie19 - Carolina won in 2006 and since then instead of doing a full rebuild a la Tookie, has been trying to rebuild through the draft while attempting to compete for the playoffs.
As for Florida and Atlanta not getting a 1st pick, that should tell you how hard it is to get 1st overall. You really have to suck! Ottawa will not be the worst team this year, the only way they end up with 1st overall is with much more luck in the lottery draft. So you'll spend the year cheering for losses that won't even get you that 1st overall pick you want!
It is highly unlikely the sens will finish last and draft first. there are always worse teams and the lottery doesnt even guarantee that last place gets first pick. Its not worth wishing for losses when it won't get the first pick anyway.
the sens will still get a good first round pick this year and will surely try to add another somehow through trade. if not a first than at least a second. Point is, we will still add good core talent.
I'm not delusional about what this team can do this year but I always hope for a win, I always hope for the playoffs. I accept losing as it results in better positioning at the draft table.
Those are quite the achievements indeed!!
Fine, but they are still wins and every win counts. Lets hope for another win tonight. brings us one win closer to playoffs.
They traded down...Also CBJ would have been much better and will be once they get some of their guys back, Carter, Wis...
Florida will be better than you think, still a bottom 5 team but bordeline 10th...
So really its between Ottawa, Jets, Montreal, Calgary & Phoenix...
Coming back to win by scoring 2 goals in the final 30+seconds of a game, which has rarely ever been done, is not impressive to you? Also, in Winnipeg we beat a team we should beat if we want to be playoff bound, which is a good achievement for a team you guys expect to suck.
The name of the game is to win, there's isn't an additional column for wins that should matter and those that shouldn't. They all count as wins and they all show that the team had enough in them to get the W that night!
...
Simpleton...
...
enjoy some hockey and seeing our team develop win or lose.
Nope, best of Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto will determine the 8th playoff spot. Calgary, Phoenix, Winnipeg, Florida will all compete for Nail.
Well, it's a fact. you win games, you make the playoffs. every win brings you one win closer to the playoffs. would you not agree?
One game at a time. If we win tonight, we are one win closer to the playoffs. I'm cheering for that.
How many games did we win last year? and what exactly changed from our roster?
Hmmm think about that one for a bit...
Can't change last year, can win tonight. Go Sens Go!
It was an impressive 35 seconds for sure. Very exciting stuff, but it didn't impress me in the sense to make me believe that this team is capable of being competitive with any of the top 20-25 teams in the league.
Listen man I'm not all doom and gloom. I'm a very positive poster during the games and post game (unless it's in regard to Condra and Smith), and I'll always cheer for the moral victories and take the positives out of every game.
I just strongly believe that we're in dire need of another star calibre player to help take the load off Spezza's shoulders. People need to realize that with Alfie's career winding down, he's going to leave a very significant hole in our top 6.
Take a look at tonight's roster for example, we only have two legitimate top six players.
We need elite forwards on this team and we need them ASAP.
Because some people here have their brains wired backwards it seems. Haha.
What do you have against Smith anyway? The guy is a very effective bottom 6 player. Is it his good work ethic or never say die attitude that rubs you the wrong way?
Also, there are elite forwards in the NHL who weren't taken with the first overall pick. Shocking, I know.
I totally agree that the Sens need elite forwards, but is Yakupov really the answer? It's a lot easier if we do get him and build the team around him. You have to remember that Stanely Cup champion teams always have a lot of depth as well.
Anyway, I hope Zibanejad and co. will play well tonight. The Sens need to have puck support and use their speed to create chances and draw penalties throughout the three periods. Let's see the young guys step up tonight.
Smith is nothing but a clown. He takes bad penalty after bad penalty. He's a better fit for the Leafs than he is with the Sens.
I'm aware that there are elite players that weren't first overall picks, but who would you rather have out of the follwing guys that were taken in the top 5 of their draft year..
Nugent Hopkins or Strome?
Hall or Neidereiter?
Tavares or Evander Kane?
Stamkos or Luke SchenN
Patrick Kane or Kyle Alzner?
Do you see the trend?
Agreed...why are people wanting us to try our hardest to come in 9th or 10th and get a 2nd or 3rd liner when we desperately need a 1st line winger....do we really want to be like Toronto and have a 10 year rebuild just to get back to 8th place?....NEUOO OOOPE! FAIL FOR NAIL! FAIL FOR NAIL! FAIL FOR NAIL!
I really hope Mika takes his game up a level offensively not to take a line change when they entering the scoring zone ..
Oh and FAIL 4 NAIL !!!!!!
As for the games i think a close one.
4-3 OT loss
And in the Tavares comparison... ever heard of Matt Duchene? the guy who had more points than Tavares in his first 2 NHL seasons?
In most cases a first overall is a sure thing, especially when they are the runaway favorite to be picked first overall like Yakupov is. You'll get the odd guy who doesn't pan out like Daigle, but that is very rare.
You can't compare our rebuild with the Leafs'. They made the mistake of trying to speed things up, but they only made their rebuild a bit longer. I'd also say that the Sens develop prospects much better than the Leafs' organization.
@Fail4Nail I was surprised that Daug got the call. He deserves it though. Look at his play in the playoffs last season and then his play during training camp. Keep rewarding the players with call ups and ice time!
That was a brilliant move wasn't it. We could have finished 3rd last instead of 9th. Duchene would have looked great in a Sens jersey!
You are right that occasionally there is an elite forward taken later than 1-2...but if you want a crosby/ovie/yak upov(a real elite player not just a very good one) you get him with one of the first picks.
The logic is that generational players are usually first overall picks, not first overall picks are usually generational players. I think October is a little early to bundle Yakupov in with Ovechkin and Crosby.
These type of players are only now and then, and not every draft !
Ovechkin to me is an Elite player, not a generational type !
Rockin Robert
Thanks again!
Colin Greening is a Beast
yeah ... the Team 1200 stream is too far out of synch
this streamer guy sux!!!!!!!!!!!

your the best!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the comment ChrisT. Is it an issue with the comment section or the actual content of the site? I am always open to suggestions on how I can improve the experience for readers.
My problem with your site recently is the comments section. I read the comments section every single day and for the past two seasons I am disappointed every single day.
It seems that the same debate and conversation goes on every single day in the comments section. Its tiring, boring and useless. And the worst part is - its the same friggin people every single day.
I am not a delusional fan in any way. I know that this season is going to be a long, rough and loss filled one. Yes I have my opinions on who would be my top rated prospect and who I might like to see player movement-wise. But really, do we need to discuss it ad nauseum like what goes on in this board? Its just a continuous cycle of annoying banter between polarized fans who will not concede anything to the other side. It may as well be full of sputtering children (and I am NOT that old). Its great that we have a fan base this passionate, but for the love of Alfie, SHUT UP!
I don't know about you guys but I'm a fan of Greening. He may not be the most offensively gifted guy but he's a good complimentary who brings a lot of speed and good size to the roster.
With that said, I know you are not the only reader that feels this way. There are a number of people that read but choose to refrain from commenting for the exact reasons you have mentioned.
Just not sure what the solution is.
I agree it can get pretty repetitive in here and I know I'm guilty of participating.
Personally I found user based content has become WAY worse since the format switch.
I have had enough with this 'Fail for Nail' vs. 'Lets try our hardest to make the playoffs' vs. 'Neither is going to happen'.
Can we not just watch hockey, debate CURRENT issues with the Senators and not things that we have no control of happening and are months away.
Lets be serious with ourselves - everyone is getting a little bored with this endless circle jerk of a debate. Every last one of you knows who you are, please listen to this - WE KNOW WHAT YOUR OPINION IS ON THE SUBJECT OF THIS SEASONS UPCOMING DRAFT! You don't have to continue to state it over and over and over. Is the definition of insanity not 'doing things over and over while expecting different results?'
Why even bother arguing the point anymore? You have been doing so for more than a month now and the conversation never changes any. Its the same topic, the same main points, the same counter arguments over and over.
I feel the same. However, there are days I have had a good chuckle out of debates. I read almost all your threads and skim through the fans comments.
Any how, it is fun...life is short and no point keeping grudge.
I am just a passionate Senators fan who would like to see the website that I check so frequently start to have some meaningful content. Anything would be better than the constant back and forth that has been going on.
I take some of the blame for not always laying out topics for discussion in the main post. That is one way to help things, I think.
But again, I really don't want to tell people what they should be talking about.
Christ, maybe Yakupov goes the way of Sean Couturier in last year's draft? I doubt it, but lets be real - the season is not even a month old. We don't be seeing the results of the season for several months...and then there is the playoffs....and then there is still a little bit more waiting time before we get to the draft.
It is really sickening our human-kind has been regressing in search for knowledge.
We should stop taking unwanted penalties.

Big Michael Jordan fan I'm guessing? Lol
Hey Im a passionate sens fan and I know I come here cause there are others just as passionate as me .. if we wanna talk about Nail or whoever we think this team needs which is "Are Team" we should be able to debate back and forth !! I see why u might be upset but too be honest we arent fighting about the weather or any other non hockey stuff ..But I do agree the name calling is pointless and it should be the one thing we should all stop

About time someone like ChrisT, takes the initiative to
clearly point out, that a few posters are guilty of "beating a dead horse", and create a redundant havoc,
on a site dedicated to hockey past & present .
The 2 sides should cease and desist and move on !

FAIL4NAIL - I have no problem with passionate debates. Its just the fact that it has been a a couple of months ALREADY of the continuous cyclical debate. Which neither side is convincing anyone from the other (or the neutral) to join their respective sides. If it were a weekly topic, I would have no problem at all with it.
Sometimes I wonder how he'd do playing forward...
Karlsson was great defensively in the last couple games and against Washington last week. He's just a player that will always be watched through a microscope just like Spezza. People will notice his mistakes more than the mistakes made by other players.
I personally think that the games where he is extraordinarily liable to defensive mistakes, are the games that he is trying to do way to much offensively.
The last two seasons we've counted on him to be a HUGE part of our offense. I feel that some games he just tries to get too involved in the offense and thus is a defensive liability.
I've more wondered why it was never(to my knowledge) suggested before he got here...I mean he is not a large guy, or from what I can tell extraordinarily strong for his size.
Because he is a defenceman. So much of what makes him good is that ability to skate the puck up from the back end.
When Alfie comes back I hope Daugavins stays and Da Costa goes down.
I am talking more in the far past when he was significantly younger. As someone who has played many sports good coaches haven't hesitated to suggest different positions due to physical size/natural talents.
Turnovers by a forward [Spezza] is one thing, but turnovers by a defencemen is another.
His decision making just needs to be better.
We never had a guy that would stand in front of the net

GO SENS GO
JESUS CHRIST WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN!
I like when sf19 posts...SensChi rp should get sf19 to post more! Or recruit a few other sf19 clones...like goncharfan55, and alfiefan11
I can't say there has been too many times where I've seen him on the ice and NOT liked what he did that shift. He might not be putting up points, but he looks comfortable and he makes the safe plays for the most part.
I advocated for him in the offseason, and I'll keep saying it.
Michalek is good and I think has a place on this team. If he can stay healthy he's probably our best goal scorer. Not bad for 4.3 mil
Gotta give credit where credit is due - Gonch has really stepped up his game on both sides of the puck since coming back from his injury. It's great to see.
TSN giving mad respect to Spezza in this game... I'm lovin it!!
Smith's Penalty was not a real penalty.
Refs just wanna get Carolina into the game.
Shhhh... I needed to get one Smith jab in tonight haha
All he needs is a legit chance. He could probably be a solid bottom six player for some team in the league. Smart player.
Brian Murray must be just licking his chops at all of our prospects.
We could use the entire Bingo team and still be better than Edmonton and Toronto.
Let's not get too carried away...
geeze its only Tuesday lay off the booze.
Zebra's doing their best to get the Canes the W.
And we;re not saying this because we're Sens fans. They are HORRIBLE.
Sens deserve to win this game.
Sens win faceoff. WHISTLE. Unfair faceoff.
Canes win faceoff. Good faceoff!
his entire game is just fantastic and now he's clutch....
Can you imaging him with Yakupov!!! OMG CUP!
Konopka scoring is a nice sight, what was it they said 1st goal in 187 games?
Anyways good win, both teams were pretty bad, game was lacklustre, good thing is CBJ won aswell, hehe they beat Detroit, just shows anyone can beat anyone on any given night!!
Finally it seems that you've posted something positive about the sens holmes. I dont think we will be a lottery team but i would rather watch a great hockey game and lose than watch bullshit at its best and win.
Spezza
Greening
Daugavins
Gonchar
Anderson
Leave it to tsn to say our record is now 3-5-0. I mean this has seriiously pissin me off. The constant erros on spelling our players names wrong, the constant errors of incorrect stats. Am i the only one who notices this.
Nice to see the boys stayin on track. Also glad i picked spezza on my fantasy team.
Go Sens Go!!
EEEEEYORE !
BLABLABLABLABLA !!!
And what did you predict? Oh yeah nothing...
Next time be a fun little sport and put you neck out.
And I was close, Sens won 3-2, could have easily been 3-2 CAR, only 1 goal off. Im off by 2 goals...My season prediction still stands and thats what counts.
Nice post, must have taken you long time to write that, LOL
PLAN THE PARADE!
Now, seriously the officiating was terrible tonight. Not one of them saw Neil take a stick to the face at the end of the second period???
I like how Runblad's game is coming along. That play in the second period where he feathered that pass from along the goal line only needed to hit a stick and its 3-0.
Kudos to Anderson for playing his best game of the year tonight, especially the OT saves and for Spezza bailing us out in the shootout....and also to Konopka for his 1st goal as a Senator. Here is to getting back to the .500 mark Thursday night guys!!
That's nothing but a pipe dream. Only way the Sens get that pick is through trade because there is no way they finish last.
One thing I do know is that at 5'11", Yakupov will increase the average height of the Montreal Canadians lineup when they pick him first overall ... I kid!
Nice post, must have taken you long to write that, LOL[/quot
what's wrong you don't like it when your proven wrong again and again hein dumbass lol
Im not wrong at all, its a prediction, good or bad, doesnt mean anything. I am right that we are a bottom 5 team. Wait till we play the top 8 teams...Thats where the losses will come from.
lacklustre, good thing is CBJ won aswell, hehe they beat

Tooks....it won't be long till everyone on this board realizes how full of .... you are. Its sad that you get actual enjoyment from being so negative in every conversation/debate.
I enjoy this site alot and I hope for a day when an obtuse troll like you gets zero attention, and eventually just leaves for good.
Not true I was under the influence we would finish with another 3rd-5th overall pick and I was hoping they would draft Ryan Murray and have the scariest up and coming 4man D in the league....the debate convinced me that we need to fail...for...wa it... whats that?... you guessed it...Nail
I ZeddyP was convinced...you r argument is invalid
