This is another important game for 18 year old forward Mika Zibanejad. He will get a chance to skate on the second line with Alfredsson and Foligno and will be looking to convince the Sens brass that he should be around here beyond the nine game tryout.
Tonight is game number eight for the Ottawa Senators.
Paul MacLean will go with a similar line up to the one that topped the Jets on Thursday night.
The one change comes in the forward ranks as Peter Regin will not play after reinjuring his shoulder. With Regin coming out, Zenon Konopka draws back in to the Sens line up. Here is how the lines are expected to look.
Michalek-Spezza-Greening
Foligno-Zibanejad-Alfredsson
Condra-Smith-Neil
Konopka-Da Costa-Winchester
There was some good news on the injury front this morning as both Bobby Butler and Matt Carkner skated. No timetable for the return on those two but it's a good sign to see them both skating.
No changes on defence which means Brian Lee will once again be a healthy scracth. Craig Anderson gets the start in the Ottawa goal.
Puck drop is just after 7:00 PM tonight with all the action available on CBC's Hockey Night in Canada and on the radio at the Team 1200.
We should trade him to a team that will give him ice time and games.
Kid has been nothing but a professional and deserves far better than our franchise is offering him, hell he totally changed his game for the team.
i think they are sitting lee so that rundblad can get a full 9 game showing. i think they will send rundblad down after 9 because he looks awkward in his own zone a lot. i think he needs some seasoning in bingo. i really hope he stays here and doesn't go back to sweden.
i don't think we should trade any of the young defence. lee cowen rundblad karlsson would be pretty much untouchable if i was GM. having those four to build around would be great over the next few years.
If we do win, I hope that fans aren't taking the wins tonight and on Thursday as any indication of how good the Sens are. Beating the two worst teams in the league on the second night of back to back games is nothing to get excited about, it's expected.
Sens win this one 5-3.

I wouldn't hold your breath. After the Minnesota game there was enough crowing and people asking those of us who thought we would struggle whether we still thought the sens were bottom of the conference team. I thought we were then and I still do.
Good teams don't get turned over by Col and Philly like we did.
Winning games like this are important though as it breeds confidence and whilst I don't think a bit of confidence turns us into a playoff team it will help in the long term which is what this season is all about.
Carkner could also be traded at the trade deadline but this team needs his toughness still, not sure what they will do with him. Lee could be traded as well or kept if both Kuba & Carkner are traded for depth. It's obvious that management prefer & will keep Karlsson, Cowen & Rundblad for their future defence. With Wiercioch, Gryba, Boroweicki & Blood coming there may not be any need for Lee. I think his days are numbered, he just isn't tough enough for a defensive defenceman & has no offense to his game which is why he is sitting out.
brilliantly stated Tcharger
I hope we win games and build confidence and develop into a great team.
Whats wrong with fans wanting the best for their team and to have a positive outlook and enjoy winning.
How does gloom and doom make you a better fan.
I predict we go on a run some time this season with Anderson, some time after 30-40 games.
We are not going to win every game but so what.
I can't remember who posted this but you were saying leaf fans were giving you a hard time about sens sucking this year, tell them yes that may be but it is just a couple years, the leafs have sucked almost from inception.
it is the cold hard truth.
Kind of like I may be fat but you are ugly and I can go on a diet.
It is just a numbers situation 8 games into the season. No need to over analyze the situation or start doubting Lee's attitude..
Yeah our D hasnt been the greatest 8 games in, but Mclean has to play his veteran D at this point..He expects them to do their job and has to play them for them to find their game..especiall y since they are expected to lead the young ones through 82 games...
Mclean along with most of us know what he is going to get from lee..We are just startgin to see what Rundblad brings to the table...he has got another 3 games to try him out..Until then Lee stays in the pressbox...
I agree he should go down and Lee should be playing. Waste of a potential asset....
We also beat Minny on the 2nd night of their back to backs
You do? Okay, let's play "Guess the Contract"! Here goes...
WHAT CONTRACT DO YOU THINK KARLSSON WILL SIGN NEXT YEAR AS AN RFA?????
Do the Sens open the vault for him? Or do they play hardball a la Shea Weber? Be specific with your numbers, please.
We can control his ice time, nhl has more games and can offer him oppertunities that will better his nhl game.
We can choose what games he plays and what he works on during practice, in sweden we can't control anything, and what he's taught may not work in the nhl and may become a habbit.
He's been playing against men, not juniors. sweden has already prepped him as much as we needed already to be able to play this year.
Being here he learns and understands mcleans system which is what we need for him to do, just being here helps him along the way.
There's no pressure here, other than negative media its all about the rebuild and learning the new system.
He doesn't have to play every game, when tougher, more elite teams are playing us it may be beneficial for zibby to watch from the pres box and learn how players in the nhl react under pressure situtions and handle it.
Gonchar (Gon-shit) was booed, and cried to his mommy (agent).
Lee was benched almost half the season, never said a word, busted his ass in practice, and eventually EARNED a spot.
Only to be relegated once more. Again he does not say a word (or asked his agaent to say a word) and continues to be the classy professional.
Sens Army who would you rather have on your team in a rebuild? please let everyone know
I think the answer is very easy.
And to be truthful, I think that if his agent does not step up for the kid and do what is best for him and demand a trade he is not doing his job. And if we lose this classy professional, and keep Kuba and Gonchar, I would be furious and I'd really have to question the sanity of our Sens brass!
My bad about the 9 game try out for Rundblad...Howe ver it would make sense that since the coaches usually make decisions about the rookies at the 9 game mark that Rundblad also gets a "9 game tryout" before they send him down to the AHL...

Brother, Gonchar is absolutely UNTRADEABLE! And there is no way Uncle Eugene is burying him and his contract in Bingo...I would like to see him gone as much as you, but we are stuck. BM made a terrible signing and we have to live with it...
He needs to grow defensively, and karlsson is still a boy, not a man like weber. He will be told he'll be rewarded at his next contract when he completes his game and grows into his frame, and at that time he may be offer the "a" if he's truley elite, which he will be when he completes his objectives.
Understood,
http://chilisports.strikehost.info
Enjoy!
Understood you make a valid point
but at what price.
like I said, his agent had better demand a trade, or he shoulg be fired, and is it worth losing a potential young d-man with his class, and is playing better than most of our D, in a rebuild year.
I for one do not think so, if we lose him we will regret it!
So I ask you do we keep playing shitty $$$ player, and lose the better one?
Everyone did not want him gone....and "they" did not give him lots of chances. Playing once every 5th game is not a legitimate shot. His biggest problem is expectations were(and possibly still are) far to high, because as an organization we messed up and drafted him much earlier than he should have been.
Brian Lee, I agree is so superior to #17 it hurts. The only rational I can think of is Mgmt is patiently waiting for Filippé's next mishap...I know he's a trooper but they are taking advantage of that fact!
Well said, but now he has paid his dues and earned his spot, if I am his agent, the the good of the kid, I say
"either you waive me or trade me"
and either way we lose him!
Why would his agent demand that he be traded? What has lee accomplished thus far in his career that gives his agent a valid reason to ask for a trade? Professionalism ? his agent would be laughed at if that was his argument..Lee was a late bloomer and the organization was patient enough to let him bloom...Yes his play off late has been better than some of our veterans..does not make him a player in a position to ask for a trade.... Mclean said he'll get his chance and he'll get it...Chill Miguel! :)
1. His name is Brian Lee, not Brian Leetch - I don't think he's in any position to demand a trade...
2. Maybe Lee and his agent are smarter than you give them credit for. They know that Kuba (and possibly Carkner) are gone next year. All Lee has to do is keep his nose clean and do as he's told, and the Sens will re-sign him next year as an RFA. Gonchar is gone the following year, and next thing you know, Lee finds himself as one of the veterens on our new-look Sens! Just be patient, Miguel - and enjoy the game tonight!
Columbus Blue Jackets - expected
Umberger-Brassard-Nash
Prospal-Vermette-Giroux
Mayorov-Pahlsson-Dorsett
MacKenzie-Johansen-Bass
D(TBD): Tyutin, Clitsome, Savard, Russell, Johnson, Moore.
Maybe they are sitting Lee because of the potential of a trade, and they are trying to showcase someone? Otherwise it doesn't make sense, I don't know why they just won't make Kuba sit in the press box for once!
PS. Grant Clitsome has the best name in the NHL hahahahaha
If the Sens can't beat this line-up...Don't know much about Columbus, but are there any future superstars named there?
And PariaseAlfie84, if Clitsome happened to get traded to the Sens, would you stich his name on your Heritage jersey??? LOL
do you really believe that if he asked for a trade, or said waive me he would not be picked up?
He has EARNED the right to play in the NHL, a former first rounder (granted drafted too soon) getting paid $600K form maybe only one more year,
and you guys think that he would not be picked up and start on another team to say...uuuhhh I don't know maybe a team like Edmonton, and would probably play top 4 minutes there.
Would you say that his agent NOT doing this, is smart or stupid?
I really believe that if Brian Lee walked into Bryan Murray's office and demanded a trade he would be thrown halfway across the room and told to shut the f*ck up! And then I could see him on the next bus to Bingha- no, make that Elmira, New York...
8 game suspension
Thank You!
I just heard that on the TSN Ice Chips Sens/Jackets
Dream Trade Lessard for Vermette :)
yes ok shut f*ck up, thrown out, and then WAIVED! which means anyone can pick him up for nothing! Thank you Bryan Murray!
And you think he makes it down to pick without getting picked up?
I will guarentee you he does not make it to Bingo, and is playing in Edmonton the very next day... we keep Kuba and Gon-shit, and lose a great young man.
Okay Miguel - you win...
...how much is Lee paying you as his agent, anyway?
I hope Rundblad pots one tonight.
I think that would do wonders for his confidence.
LOL... trust me if I was his agent he would be in Edmonton by now!
great chatting with you Dude, time to do some weekend chores
Go Sens Go
Hmm..you started out by being upset that Lee wasnt in the sens line up... but as the conversation went on..it really sounds like you want lee to play for edmonton..
Miguel do you have a secret oiler fetish?!
No...No Oiler fetish, but I am a realist, and believe in what is fair is fair.
How would you feel if you were Lee, or associated with Lee, and be treated like he has, earned his spot the hard way, clearly a better player the both Gonchar and Kuba, yet cannot ply your trade, because you are not paid enough?
As a fan, I really cannot stomach playing players b/c we screwed up, and forced to watch selfish shitty players while good better players are forced to sit.
As much as I love Murray, he is guilty of force feeding us his mistakes, Gerber, Leclaire, Kovalev, Gonchar, Kuba!!!
Enough, do what NYR did to Redden and put Gonchar and Kuba on the buses where they deserve and put Lee on the ice where he has earned it.
Sorry I am a little passionate on the subject.
2 wrongs will never make a right!
Sorry for the expletive but F**K!!!
could be his career, if it is the same shoulder
But before I go...I think Gonch and Kuba on the team are a little more valuable than people think even with the crappy play...especial ly for a rebuilding team...
Kuba is going to be dealt at the trade deadline since he is not going to be a big risk with his contract ending..The return will not be much...but anything for him is good enough.... the late round pick could very well be a future zetterberg, datsyuk or surprise prospect like stone..Thus he needs to be here and not in Bingo if we are going to get anything for him..
Gonch has lost a step or two since he signed with us, however he does have a wealth of experience including a couple of cup runs. A player like him is a necessity on a young team. We have two offensive Dmen developing on the team and Gonchar despite his slow start to the season, is the perfect mentor for them.
Lee will get his chance...imo, he has earned diddly squat...granted he hasnt been given the chance to prove himself...
However, a couple of good outings in the preseason does not put you ahead of a veteran stanley cup champion..
We need to adapt a what have you done for me lately attitude....
Gonchar-since signing...nothing
Lee- since being drafted...a classy, willing to change/work on game for the better of the team...been arguably in our top 2 defensive d this season
Bad new for Peter, good news for Mika.
Deep and very true! Especially if you one in Lee's camp
and said former Blue Jack Fedor Tyutin (sp?) will suit up for his 500 game for the senators? i assume its a typo on the tele prop but stranger things have happened
I'm Ron Burgundy?
http://chilisports.strikehost.info
Anyone else think Chirp needs to get Streamer on his payroll?
LOL
I expect the Sens to win... a lot depends on Anderson.
Too bad about Regin... he was playing pretty well. Makes the Sens experience at centre ice really limited after Spezza that is.
Wish they would have brought up Filatov... sooner have a more skilled player in the lineup than a fighter.
Off topic.. watched most of the St. Louis game last night... Brian Elliott is playing really well. Made some big saves. I guess there is life for a goalie after playing in Ottawa.
He was put in a situation here. he was not ready for last year behind a team that could not play defense.
I'm in hull with videotron and the game is in HD on CBC, should be the same with bell tought...
a 12 or so girl cracking the best anthems you've ever heard... unreal.
Also, it looks like 1/2 of the season ticket holders from Columbus are here. That's only about 74 people, but as a ratio it's impressive.
Go Sens.
PEEEEELLLLLLLUUUUUUSSSSSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
No I have checked all cbc channels that are HD, and they are not showing the sens games. I recently switched from videotron and only have had this problem with BELL.
Does that look kinda like a lopsided trade way in favour for the Canucks.
You rock!
http://www.ustream.tv/channel/bsenshockeylive
Light a fire under their butts Stache!
Hopefully they will come out flying in the second...
Also, kudos to Kuba ..ridiculous pass by Spezz..5 point in 3 games thus far...Keep em coming!
AGREED!!!!!cbc is hd ota everywhere, how does a pay provider get away with showing cbc ottawa, the nations capital in sd? Bell is losing costumers with this.
Also when you have centerice you shouldn't get the comercials, those walmart comercials are really annoying, i cant watch in surround sound with crap like that hurting my ears and disturbing the dogs.
Its a joke, i just got off the phone with bell and they said its only the Leafs games that are on HD. I am so glad i just switched to bell!!!!!!!
You neglected to inform others that Lehner has 2 assists in that game.
Yeah... Johne and I won't 'chirp' on you for Condra... just yet anyway.
Elliott in net for St Louis... they are beating the Flyers 3 - 1.
Regardless of the play he made on that goal, he still sucks lol
Here's a trade: Anderson + Weircoch + 3rd round pick 2012 to St. Louis for Elliot + 2nd round pick 2012...
I am of course, joking...
He has turned his game around this year.. and I'm happy for him.
The Sens (with Glascal Leclaire always hurt) put Elliott into a situation he was not ready for and he could not take the pressure. The team in front of him wasn't very good either.
Did they give up on him too early? He is still a young player.
Sandy, I gave yours a thumb down for the trade, not for the update.... b/c you're right, it's completely one-sided...
I wanna beat Gillis' face in for being so crafty.
I hate the Vancouver 'Leafs of the West' Canucks.
Peluso.
GO SENS GO!!!!
Maybe he can give Brian Murray some insight on how to trade Kuba and what to get for him.
MM9is a all star ..Nice to see Gonchar smile
I have no complaints with Kuba so far. he seems to be shaking off the rust and improving with each game. Another month of playing like this and Kuba becomes tradeable.
great win...
great game, Gonchar gave us that win in regular time backed up by Michalek.
Thats 6 points guys, respectable in the standings so suck on that.
On another note... I don't feel so bad for the Sens in their touchdown losses... Washington beat Detroit 7 - 1. Did not see that coming.
He just might have!
For now.. Tampa won and Florida is winning... but still looks okay on them to get closer to .500. Two more wins will do that..
Jets won too so thats good...Gonna be a battle for the top pick for sure...
FAIL FOR NAIL!!!
Saw that.. but all of Toronto's wins have been against teams with losing records... so they are winning the games they should.
They lost to Colorado (winning records) & Boston (rough start).
So we shall see once they really start playing the teams like Pitts, Buff, Philly, etc.
Finally, SOME respectability from CBC! I'll take it Ron!
I thought it was Don Cherry that said that?
By the way.. the Habs are last in the conference. They have not won a game at home yet. Is Martin on his way out?
or not.
As a Vermette Fan I feel bad for CBJ they really need something to get them going
It doesn't help them that they're missing 8 regulars from their line-up. Seven players are injured and wisnieski is suspended. When healthy they aren't nearly as bad as their record indicates.
He did have a really good game. If he keeps playing that he may make himself tradeable!!
#17 was on for every one of the opponents goals tonight, lucky to be only -1.
I wish the broadcasters would refrain from feeding me Kuba's big time coverage...I don't care if his reach is 10' he cannot check Nash because he refuses to play the body and get in front of him.
Carks is on the way the only bad thing Filippé will not be coming out!
2 give aways (Official), the man turns it over to the other guys @ his own blue line about half the time. Our guys don't try to play it because it's suiside...
but... I am really shock tonight, Eklund predicted that Panthers-Canuck s trade this morning, i don't know what to think about him now... maybe it was just luck
First off elliot was an average backup, then we brought wamsley in to help him out and he seemed to go downhill from there.
I've been holding my tongue on this but if andersons game continues to drop I would put it on wamsley before anderson, there has to be a better goalie coach out there but at the time none were available. Wamsley was an average goalie at best what the hell could he teach a starting goalie in todays nhl with the games pace being twice as fast and the shots 20mph faster?
Thoughts?
So what you are saying is that in order to be a good goalie coach, you had to have been one of the best goalies? If that was the case, explain why Gretzky didn't pan out as a head coach?
Gretzky had to teach systems and defence, he wasn't in chargeof 1 or 2 guys playing 1 position. Wamsley was 3-5 gaa, not good, if anything he's teaching how he played.time to go after patrick roy even though I dislike the guy he was great.
http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=5633
As we have seen in Ottawa for many years the fans can very easily over coach our number one goalie!
I see your point, even though chubbs was a good pro golfer, he never won a gold jacket, however he was able to teach happy the fundimentals of his short game happy was able to find his happy place and get the gold jacket, too bad shooter...
Old people play golf, they can't play nhl hockey, especially as a goalie, roloson or brodeur will set that record.
Cujo would be another great goalie coach, he's a butterfly guy from the modern era playing on mostly under achieving teams and heavily worked,he would be a fine choice to teach anderson, wamskey probably thinks a butterfly is a pork chop.
The era when wamsley played dates him badly, we need someone who's experienced and excelled in this era.
I think this is a must event for sens fans to get involved with. The feed is there as antenna TV the new digital stream is actually an HD feed so no reason it cannot be directed to bell. So in saying that for those who can get antenna going with digital tuner, HD is available if no luck with getting things to change.
Not sure if I'm happy about our fans HAVING to do it, but if that was the motivator, than hell yeah. He had an outstanding game. Everyone did.
Loved Neil fighting the ref to get to his captain. After all these years, the respect remains...
Go SENS GO!!!
Don't look now, it's only been 8 games... We'll talk when we hit the 70 game plateau.
I had the game in HD last night Cogeco cable.
