Acquired in a late season steal, Craig Anderson will make his first start against his old mates tonight at SBP.
Anderson was a star with a Colorado team that shocked many of the experts in 2009, on route to a surprising playoff birth. He is trying to repeat that success with a rebuilding Ottawa Senators squad in 2011/2012.
It will be a special night at SBP as the Sens will debut the much talked about Heritage jersey. The team is scheduled to wear it 11 times this season, with the first coming tonight against the Avs. Can’t tell you how much I love this jersey. So much in fact that I’ve now purchased two of them. One with #41 Anderson on the back and another one that is blank and looking for inspiration.
Can’t wait to see how the jersey looks in game action.
There will be plenty of shuffling for the Sens tonight as it turns out. Both Bobby Butler and Brian Lee are back in the line up. Erik Condra and Zenon Konopka will come out as the Sens will go with seven defenceman. Interesting adjustments by MacLean.
Puck drop will come just after 7:30 PM with all the action available on SportsNet and the Team 1200. There are also still tickets remaining so head over to www.capitaltickets.ca and grab yours!
- The Ottawa Senators, along with the City of Ottawa Archives and Mayor Watson are making an announcement at SBP at 12:30 PM. An exhibit celebrating Ottawa's Hockey History will be unveiled today. The new exhibit will be on the 200 level of Scotiabank Place this season.
- The Sens had a couple scouts watching the Avs/Jackets game last night in Columbus. Seems like a case of checking out an opponent ahead of time but it's important to note there were 27 scouts in total at that game. Something to keep an eye on.
Seems to be minor attitude problems. There were problems with him and Filatov in practice the other day.
When MacLean called everyone to the bench... they were on the other side of the ice friggin around!
Little joke. I heard it was due to his slow start. No drive in preseason, no drive in practice. Maclean wants time to be earned, not just given.
It's a bit early to try and saddle Butler with a poor attitude don't you think. especially as the coaches last year both here and in Bingo had nothing but good words to say about his attitude.
This is how stupid bullshit rumours get started.
I'm SO into that new Jersey as well, I really want one with Karlsson's name on it. That or Lehner, but I'd go with someone who's already playing, then get a 2nd with Lehner later on.
I'll admit the first two games we saw strugles, but you can't deny the work they put in, especially in the 3rd period of both those games. Then to come out and play a full 60 minutes against the Wild to get a win at home, was special. Sure, the Wild aren't expected to do much more than Ottawa, but we'll take it. While I'd like to see that same effort night in and night out, it'll be hit or miss and I think most of us know that. As long as they continue to push, even when they look like they are out of the game, that's worth watching.
Looking forward to the matchup tonight, the Aves are in situtation like ours, so it'll be another battle of young players out to prove something.
Go Sens Go!!!
Hopefully he has an off night...
wonder who we are interested in [scouts] and more important who we would give
DON'T start trade talk please... we won't hear the end of Goncahr and Kuba... AGAIN! lol
Watch out, Varlamov is a diffrence maker!
Landeskog got his first career NHL goal last night (3 games into the season), ugly as hell but thats what he does!
He's going to pose huge problems for our soft defence. But with that said Sens should win this one, we are all round a better team.
Sens 3-2
hope anderson plays lights out, a shut out would be cool for him
If that's the case we might have to trade Filatov and Butler. Sure they are one dimensional but I thought that one dimension is why we picked them up. I don't want to trade them though.
Off topic:
Playing NHL 12 on xbox and Kuba is currently my best D, (and it gets worse), they still have Leclaire and he is completly out-playing Anderson!!! I was going to trade them away early on, but now I'm stuck in a bind! Its so painful seeing their names every time I play, when they have brought nothing good to the real Sens. LOL, I'm not looking for any advice on my NHL 12 dilema, I just thought I'd share something that I found humerous :)
Stay tuned for tookie's prediction of 5-2 Avs. I'm anxious for tonight's game as so far the avs have been a VERY low scoring/goal against team, and the sens have been a VERY high scoring/goal against team, so we'll see which way it goes :)
GO SENS!
I see 2-1 ottawa.
sure filitov was traded for his offense but that doesn't mean he gets a free ride on d. I dont think his sitting is because of poor performance on D, but poor effort. McLean doesnt expect to see Kesler out there, but he does expect effort. If Filitov puts that effort in, he will play.
But at the same time, that doesnt explain why Lee can't get in for a game...
sadly he's already gone for a 3-2 sens win
*faints*
So, there may be a Lineup change or 2 ??
What say you Chirp ??
Will Gonchar be replaced by Lee ??
And will Butler replace Konopka ??
Rockin Robert
He may then just make a false million dollar donation to some charity, moon-walk on the ice to try and impress then demand a trade...
Unfortunately, I don't think we would be that lucky. But he's skating with cement in his skates, or no blades.
I dont see Gonchar coming out at any point in the season, unless its injury. He's making way too much to sit out. Butler for Konopka I would do in a heartbeat, no idea why we got Konopka...
You're making sense....
Good! I hope Lee takes Kuba or Gonchars spot.
Really... Gonchar and Lee throw that idea right out the window :)
Seriously, I really do hope that Filatov and Butler do not start with the wrong attitude... they stil both have a lot to prove
Going with 11 forwards and 7 D. Think that means we see less even strength minutes for Gonchar. Smith and Butler rotating in to the three lines throughout?
Should be interesting to see what MacLean has planned.
Chirp,
If both Condra and Konopka are out, and Butler draws back in, we will be short 1 forward, or will some player double-shift ??
Rockin Robert
Yep just 11 forwards. Seven defenceman.
This is strange indeed, a move is imminent, as obvioulsy we have too many bodies, but to go with this type of lineup, without injuries is extremely peculiar.
We are either showcasing someone, or not playing another due to a potential move, interesting...
Chirp do you ever remember a lineup like this without injuries?
As long as Rundblad is playing : )
I want to see Filatov light the net on fire too though!
Hope The Stash has a set PP for tonight. Got to have Spezz & Alfie together. I hate watching PP's without the 2 of them together, obviously much MUCH more dangerous with 19 and 11 alongside one another.
9mm/Greening/Zb ad - Spezz - Alfie
Gonch/Blads - EK
Or next time Filatov plays, put him with Alfie and Spezz on PP's
Still can't believe the Avs traded Stewart, tsk tsk lol idiots.
Maybe all the Kuba - Gonchar booing vs Wild by the fans , got to both Murray and MacLean ??
Rockin Robert
Rundblad is probably as good a forward as he is a defenceman @ the present time...
They traded Anderson for Elliot no? Shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone!
Thats interesting, I would love to see Rooooonblad up front!
Great to hear that Crosby is cleared to play!
Well then I am all for that!
at least they are not benching a player who has been playing well,
I do feel for Filatov, b/c his pre-season was pretty good, and a young guy to be benched a few games in a row, can be very demoralizing... we will need his scoring if we are to have a good season...but on offense it really is hard to pick one guy who deserves to come out of the lineup after last game
I don't think he has been given the opportunity to play with Spezza yet.. When he is on other lines he is less noticable... he needs to play with Spezza. Let's hope tonight he at least gets that chance.
Colorado is a young and fast team. Sens will have to be just as fast tonight. We get to see Landeskog.. who the Avs can thank Ottawa for as they purposely tanked to get him by doing the Anderson/Elliot t trade.
http://senators.nhl.com/v2/ext/Audio/111013_maclean.mp3
Be loud at the rink Sens fans, let's crush these bastards.
Peluso.
I love his no bullshit answers! The Stache rocks!!
Though about that. Also considered getting SensChirp on there too but decided that might be a tad dorky.
BUT, giving credit where credit is due: I must say: Kuba is one of the best (yea I know.....weird) anyway one of the best in the NHL at keeping the puck in the zone on clear attempts. I can't count how many times during the last 3 seasons how many times I said "how the hell did he stop that and keep the play going"
So I guess it's good to have a player who is highly skilled in that regard......IMO it's something that you can't really teach. It's a lot of perception, hand eye coordination, and a bit of luck.
Either way I hope he breaks out of whatever the hell is wrong with him to either raise his trade value or make our hockey team better. If he can manage to get to the level he was at prior to last year our hockey team will be better. And have a solid looking D
Philipps Karlsson
Gonchar Cowen
Kuba Rundblad
Lee Carks
The Stache!
I think Da Costa or Cowen if you go with a player, but having Senschirp would be great branding.
Was Colorado's way of saying (without actually saying it out loud)
" Were're done, and we want a chance at RNH or to at least finish in the bottom 3" ...... How can we ensure we don't move up in the standings?????
ACQUIRE BRIAN ELLIOTT!
Great clip chirp! It's great how open and honest PMac is. He can definitely relate to anything he is asking or telling his players.
At least "SensChirp" wouldn't get traded. I think it's a great Idea. Good advertising too!
Re: What Sens Chirp should put on the back of his extra jersey.
Not sure what all the fuss is about playing 7 D. This season will be an extended training camp in a lot of ways. The focus will be to develop the young players.
Tookie Rules!
Pithy answers to often insipid questions.
An excellent audio clip - worthy of Felipe Alou.
Seems to me this is Maclean saying to Gonchar and Kuba either you play hard or you are benched in the MIDDLE OF THE GAME.
I like it.
What do you mean? were making the playoffs! You dont know shit, do you even watch hockey!! Your opinion is completely wrong and you should go back to your mom's basement and whack off....
Oh err... sorry have been victim of those too many times now.
But for the record I totally agree with you. Dont pay attention to the insults your about to get.
I don't have sound at work. What does he say in the video?
He says "Thats not an excuse, tell your boss to get sound on his computers or he will be benched!"
Line ups from practise
Michalek-DaCosta-Alfredsson
Greening-Spezza-Zibanejad
Foligno-Regin-Neil
Smith-Lee-Butler
Not sure I see it that way. Are you suggesting they are showcasing a forward or D?
Haha actually I do have sound. What I meant is that if I use that sound I'll get in trouble. Whereas I can easily hide the fact that I'm reading comments.
Well then I dont know what he said since I dont have sound on mine, LOL!
LOL
Also I hope P Mac isnt giving up on Filatov already. He was one of the players I was most excited about this season.
I think the logic behind the D benching is that you have to give the vets a chance to improve. Vets often don't see too much ice time during pre-season, and the young kids do. So its not uncommon for the vets to be a little shaky for the first few games.
I think that having a disgruntled vet in the locker room is more damaging than having a kid sit a few games out (for a short amount time). Obviously if the vet is performing poorly for an extended period of time, then he's gotta go, but one does not trade Spezza because he doesn't score for 10 games.
I'm not defending Kuba, Gonchar, Philips...just stating that the logic is probably simply not benching them to give them a chance to shake off the rust and not make an impulsive move.
Bingo!
On Defence with running 7 gives teams gives other teams a good look at all are d men I would love to know how many and which team scouts are at the game tonight .... It honestly wouldn't surprise me one bit if there were scouts from MTL CLB RANGERS there tonight ....
I just don't understand rolling 7 d... 3 games into a season against a team that played last night in the Avs ..Cutting back mins is bullsh*t its not like we played last night..
However, when we have played another 6-7 games, the moment of truth will also be there, and we will make the proper adjustment type decisions.
Murray and MacLean will weigh all the pros and cons !
Rockin Robert
WOW!!! I love this guy!!! Upfront, blunt, honest, logical!!! I couldn't disagree with anything he said (I really didn't like Clouston's approach with a lot of things).
I liked his attitude about the Boo'ing of Gonchar. I didn't know if i thought it was right or wrong, but I really liked his answer.
I just love this guy as a coach!
http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=377999
Prediction for tonight's game .... 4-0 Good Guys!
Also great news about Crosby. Not a fan of Cindey, but I'd hate to see him get Lindrosed out of our game.
Protecting Gonchar's PP time is laughable. He's been awful so far this year particularly when the Sens get the man advantage. Rundblad has been far superior in his limited PP time because he's playing like he actually cares and is making things happen out there. Gonchar just drags his ass and takes a coffee break for 2 minutes.
Agreed - just watch how slow Gonchar skates when he carries the puck out of the zone on the power play. The other players have to slow down and then he makes a panic pass because nobody's open. Then watch when Karlsson or Rundblad carry it...the players can skate full speed and expect a decent first pass out of the zone...
Regarding Filatov, I don't think they've given up, but they really have to evaluate Zibby right now. Can't he still go back to SEL this season? I feel like that's what will happen - just so they know what they have in him for next year, but have him playing. After Winchester comes back, the bottleneck will be even worse. Zibby to SEL - Filatov and Butler share time on Spezza's wing. That's my guess.
Added to the game day post. Surprising move but just too many bodies right now and he had the two way deal.
Agreed.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Da Costa spend sometime in Bingo based on the contract.... Even though he doesn't deserve it, at this point anyway. That is if Zibanejad sticks around.
SensChirp wouldn't be a bad idea. I wouldn't go with a player. You should put something like Leafs Suck or something along those lines.
He likes Anderson
I'm going to put Cheechoo on mine
Filatov to Bingo is a good move. Don't get me wrong, I love filatov's game and I really hope he finds success here in the big league, but we are still evaluating rookies and trying out new things (new coach, new players, new system - lots to figure out this early in the season).
If I were to take a guess, it's after 9 games, some rookies (zibby?) who aren't quite ready yet will go to their proper league and Filatov will come back. He gets to play and shake off rust in bingo right now instead of warming the bench. His 2-way contract and quiet play made him victim of a numbers game.
http://46.182.126.9/channel3.html
Enjoy!
Lol, fk it. Yashin it is. Yeah, I went there.
If Neil keeps rolling like he did the other night... he may force my hand and I'll have little choice but to buy one of the new jerseys with his name on it. True heart of a Senator that guy.
mark stone 6g 12a in 7 games
matt puempel 3g 4a in 7 games
stefan noesen 1g 6a in 7 games
jakob silfverberg 3g 3a in 11 games
shane prince 1g 0a in 1 game (injured after the first game of the year)
daren kramer 5g 3a in 5 games
JG pageau 7g 6a in 6 games
fredrick claesson 1g 0a in 10 games (taking a more shutdown role this year)
LOL, I was a little creeped out now that you mention it... haha Just kidding
If I had a sitter I would have jumped all over the offer to watch a game with a fellow Sens die hard
Haha fair enough! Well I won't be alone I have a sens nation army surrounding all courters
Fans need to stop referring to two-way and one-way contracts as if that's the reason he was chosen. All it means is the team saves money by sending him down as opposed to the other contracts. It has nothing to do with whether or not he has to clear waivers there are a completely separate group of rules governing that.
Thanks alot!! Living in Saskatchewan its tough to catch alot of Sens games.
GO SENS GO!
i hope this is true
also heard that he is slowly getting on the WJC radar. hope to have lots of sens representative this year from guys like stone, prince, noesen, zibanejad?, claesson, culek, puempel etc.
Yes. That or the fact that the team has already publicly stated Winchester is close to returning :). He's already participating in full practice with the team. There was word of that after the Sens second loss on the season.
LIAR!
Go Sens.
Peluso
So Chirp, are we going with 3 lines, and rotations with Smith, Lee and Butler ??
Or are we going with 4 lines, with 4th line of
Smith - Lee - Butler ??
Rockin Robert
Cy Denneny should be on the back of your heritage jersey!
Maclean said that the 7 D are going to play defence and that's it. The purpose is to let them play less minutes which it supposed to help them get the puck out of the defensive zone quickly.
Seven D. Three lines with Smith and Butler rolling into the top 3 lines.
Thank you so much for streaming these games. But I tried to get your stream last game but only 1/3 of the screen showed and the opaque ad never seemed to go away on top either. This happend on both my computers. Is thee something that I should know?
Although, if he could play better in his own zone that'd be great lol
http://46.182.126.9/channel3.html
Try using firefox for best results. Unfortunately, I still haven't found a solution for ppl only seeing part of the screen if switching to firefox doesn't solve it.
Although, if he could play better in his own zone that'd be great lol
As a 21 year old player, its pretty difficult not to have a career year...
(Just having fun Boss...)
I'm gonna predict that Z gets sent back! (God I hope not...)
Stone wins WHL scoring title
Pageau wins Q scoring title
Don't think Puempel or Noessen have it in them to win the OHL scoring title.
Thanks again for the streams man. It just seems to be loading nothing after the ad. It was working 5 mins ago and then froze. Did you shut it down?
GO SENS GO!
that would be nashty!!!!
The Sens are still evaluating Zibanedjad at this point. And all things seem to point to him going back to Sweden. But if he ends up staying, expect a minor trade or a player being placed on waivers to accomodate him and Filatov to stay in the lineup.
We have too many 1 way contract, and I don't think the intention was to get Filatov and have him play in Bingo all year. He's a project but 2 games is hardly an investment in time for this guy.
Finally, the Butler/Filatov attitude thing is pure bullshit. People need to understand the difference between a lack of effort and a bad attitude.
Heatley = bad attitude. Kuba/Gonchar = lack of effort and motivation...
Really appreciate what you guys at p2pforum/wiziwi g do to help us out!
Makes not living in Ottawa anymore a little easier! lol
game is on sportnet east according to nhl.com
Looks like they are going to finish the baseball game before showing the SENS game...
All those stripes on the black jersey looks bad in motion,
numbers and names look blurry
I was litterally typing this message when Potvin said the numbers were easy to see LOL
yeah maybe in person
THanks!
is better
your stream isn't good its stoping every 3 mins
I can't get the game here.
Lets go! Two 3rd periods in a row!
He's exactly what we need on the 1st line, a big scoring left winger...
My god. We're being outworked and outhustled by a younger, faster, team.
and not on Sportsnet One .
This is exactly what you didnt want to happen to Filatov, you think he wants to play in the AHL when he could be playing big minutes and big $$$ in the KHL.
Watch his attitude plummet...
What else were you expecting? This is what we have have been saying all along...
Expect the next 2 years to be like this...
Maybe they should have dressed 13 forwards and 6 dfencemen!
But wait , we can rebound in our best period, which is the 3 rd period ??
You must be one of the ones that for some reason thought we would compete for the playoffs.
I seriously questioned anyones sanity that believed this before the season, and think anyone who still believes it should be committed.
Goodnight!
People leaving the arena, LOL!
Thats how the cup is won!
This is worse than watching the timbits...
Nothing would make me happier.
Well, here's to the next one!
It took you 3 games to get me to admit im wrong. God forbid our sens win 2 games in a row. Gonna be a battle for the first overall pick with calgary.
I'm tires of hearing people say "it's going to be a long season" though, what were your expectations? As long as I see effort like the first 3 games and some improvement throughout the season, I am more than happy, and it won't "be a long season", it'll be too short for my likings.
But wow...horrible effort by all tonight :(, tookie should of taken my 7-2 prediction haha
I was only joking about Anderson's GAA being 5 at the end of this season.. but damn, I might not be too far off!
out of curiosity, how many goals does the other team need to score to pull the goalie?
ouch!
ottawa's gaa is absurd right now.
And the year after that.
With the first overeall selection the ottawa senators are proud to select from the Halifax Moosehead...McKinnon!
Can you imagine our team with those 2......I get shivers!
Remember when we said this was a rebuilding year?
Everyone cried for it last year. "Trade this guy, get rid of that guy."
This is what we get.
It seems like some of you are dying to finish last, but forget that you have to lose games to do so.
Its going to be a long season!
Hey, those minuses hurt my feelings!
really everyone played terrible.
You can thumbs down the Tookie comment all you want but you sure can't say luck was with us tonight in any way.
We are celebrating a time we sucked bad, 20 years ago.
Sell the jerseys to the fans if they like them but don't make the players wear them.
Brutal game
Sure seemed liked it on the ice tonight...
Our youth and speed was supposed to rub off on the older guys but i think the opposite might be happening.. What a completely different team than two nights ago.
I predict another tough practice ahead of them tomorrow morning...
Also think Ruuunblad needs to go down to the minors for a bit..He was supposed to be a physical offensive presence on the back end but he seems as soft as Kuba right now..
Wonder what the stache said to Alfie at the end of the game..
how the hell are you even getting likes on your comment? I saw the replays on how the avs scored, it was absolute brutal play by the team not the goalie. At most Anderson shouldve stopped 3 goals but the whole team left him out to dry, no goalie is going to be able to stop the duchene goal so no anderson does not suck. its just the team was playing absolutely brutal tonight
Same goes for Rundblad. He needs to go down to Binghamton to refine his game a little.
three of those players no one would want ..and the other three is all we have right now and we'd be stupid to get rid of them..
You know, youre right. I think Alfie is a great player, but really, the leader of a team must be able to not only lead by example, but also be heard loud and clear all the time. the quiet type leader only works if the assistants under the captain are the "ra ra ra" type players (EG Chris Neil). Heres a question then, which player in this years draft, is the closest comparison to Bobby Clarke, back in his day. Sure he was dirty, but he played incredibly hard, and wasnt afraid to call out his fellow players if they werent giving the same amount of effort.
Fuck the haters, win at all costs, on to the next game - to battle and fight to WIN!
Go Fuckin Sens.
Peluso.
Short term pain for the long term gain.
A first pick next draft and the year after plus, 3 or 4 top ufas, and we are contenders for the next 7-10 years.
Stay positive Sens Army!!
I will admit that I did not feel that we would be a lottery team at years end: I thought that the new coaching staff would work well with the young core and that would lead to a better offense... it has. I was wrong about Anderson being respectable for us. You can't blame the D on every goal; he's looked brutal for us through 4 games.
Can't believe anyone said that Rundblad needs AHL conditioning. He was probably our best player out there tonight (not saying much though).
Also... like it or not, if Filip Forsberg has a standout world junior, he'll be taken over Yakupov in the 2012 Entry Draft (by us anyway).
How do you expect to have a rebuild and not lose any games?
7-1.. sucks... move on to the next game... relax people.
even if it wasn't a rebuild, guess another time when the Sens were 1-3 to start the season...2006-2 007...and they lost 6-0 to the Leafs, same goal differential as tonight.
01. Nail Yakupov, RW
02. Ryan Murray, D
03. Alex Galchenyuk, C
04. Filip Forsberg, LW
05. Mikhail Grigorenko, RW
06. Nick Ebert, D
07. Matthew Dumba, D
08. Morgan Rielly, D
09. Griffin Reinhart, D
10. Derrik Pouliot, D
11. Martin Frk, RW
12. Matia Marcantuoni, C
Losing and being in the bottom for a few years, getting high pics in no way guarantees success. Many teams have tried the rebuild, for many it hasn't worked.
Worked for pittsburg... worked for Chicago...
And many more have tried the other way, and it didn't work either...
Pittsburgh, Washington, Tampa, Chicago... and the Islanders and Oilers are well on their way. In the salary cap NHL, and with the amount of scouting that goes on today, first overall is priceless.
The call on Smith was a fucking joke! so now you can't catch a guy with his head down anymore and lower the boom. GIVE ME A BREAK, Wilson should have got the instigator. Was a clean hit every other goddamn year but this one.
Let's also hope, just in case (we are playing Washington) that The Stash starts Auldy on Sat. If a goalie gets hung out to dry again on Sat I really don't want it to be Anderson.
Like Peluso said
Go Fuckin Sens GOOOOOO!!!
p.s Thought Butler was the best Senator out there, he kept his feet moving for the most part every shift. Neil Foligno Regin line had a few moments.
Great attendance but a lot of spectators were really really mad. It is clear that most attendees do not agree with the rebuild mode. There was a small chant calling for the firing of Murray. A lot of season ticket holders in my area of the rink left really really early.
This is tood bad because the Senators have really improved the quality of the service at SBP. Staff is improved, they hand out beautiful pins, food is better, cheerleaders, bringing out soldiers makes it really an enjoyable experience. However will people keep coming for the next 3 years with a really weak young team? I will :)
I think 3/4 of the posters on here and Sens fans at ScotiaBank Place are complete losers (booing on opening night - now that screams that we are quite pathetic. No wonder ppl don't like us). People. LEARN TO LOSE! Remember We are not a winning team!
I can't beleive you guys are already saying that Anderson sucks, Spezza sucks, Alfie sucks, Karlsson sucks, Rundblad sucks, Kuba sucks, Gonchar sucks, Phillips sucks...Trade bait these guys, this guy's a clown. Not happy with the Sens, go find a winning team then and don't come back.
You know what: Stay positive for once and enjoy the game and the team we are so fortunate to have!
I am a Sens fan and I stand by my team regardless how horrid we can be. Win or Lose by 6 goals.
contender in 7-10 years?
Trade Spezza & Michalek?
:(
I shouldn't read this site first thing in the morning. My brain isn't conditioned to take these comments this early.
They win and the playoffs are right around the corner, our draft picks can do no wrong, etc.
They lose, and the end is near. Draft pick order posts start, trade so and so, fire such and such.
You people are going to have a very long next couple of years!
I was just thinking the exact same thing. Over-reaction anyone?
I suppose it hurts even more when the team that beats us is supposed to be around the same level of skill and end up with a simillar amount of points.
Growing pains everyone - there WILL be more nights like this, but every game is a lesson in learning for the younger players. As long as they keep moving, hussle, try and learn, then one can see even a loss as a motivator and a learning experience.
Let's see what we're really made of over the next couple of games, against elite competition.
In a way it's good that a beatdown like this has come early in the season, it's a reality check to all those who thought beating an average Wild team suddenly made us contenders. Just as it was ridiculous to suggest that after the Wild game, it's ridiculous to be shouting trade him and sack him after this. Get some frigging perspective.
The important thing about this game is how the coach and players react. I can't imagine PM has been on the wrong side of a game like this too often and to see what he des will be interesting. The veterans will have to rally round and pick up the younger players. As long as there is no hang over, this game is done - forget it and move on.
Instead of sending Filatov to Binghamton, they could have kept him in Ottawa for a few more games.
Jesse Winchester is almost game ready, so who will go back to Bingo ??
Konopka is a tough guy, wins some face-offs, but he will either be healthy scratched many times, or sent to Bingo.
When we reach the 9th game, some tougher decisions will face
Murray and MacLean, so let's play who we have, and see who stays with the Ottawa Senators, and which players go elsewhere !
Rockin Robert
Getting the 1st overall pick is huge for this team, we need an elite prospect, a Crosby, an Ovechkin, this upcoming draft has them, imo, Yakupov, Galchenyuk (inj), Grigorenko, Forsberg....Pla yers that can come in and make an impact right away.
Yakupov and Galchenyuk were part of the R&D NHL camp, although not to impress but to test rules and whatnot, they were the only junior players at the BioSteel Camp run by Gary Roberts, alongside stars like Stamkos, Cammalleri, C. Stewart, Price and they impressed.
I dont know much about Filip Forsberg but he seems to fit the mold of a power forward, good size and scoring touch!
Grigorenko is the shape and size of Couturier but much more talented, plus he had drive...for a Russian!
Team Matt Nichol: Mike Cammalleri, Tyler Seguin, PK Subban, Paul Bissonnette, David Clarkson, Andrew Cogliano, Matt Stajan, Daniel Winnik, Raffi Torres, Ryan Ellis, Nik Antropov, Brendan Smith, Mike McKenzie, Greg Stewart, Jay Harrison, Tyler Cuma, Jason Wilson, Nail Yakupov, Alex Galchenyuk
Team Gary Roberts: Steven Stamkos, Stephen Weiss, Wojtek Wolski, Jeff Skinner, Steve Downie, James Neal, Cody Hodgson, Chris Tanev, Peter Holland, Spencer Abbott, Cameron Gaunce, John Mitchell, Mike Neal, Brandon Burlon, Ethan Werek, Chris Terry, Matt Beleskey
Do you know whats in most of the green Gatorade bottles the NHL teams use?
There is NO way the Sens would take Grigorenko. He hasn't even said if he's sure he wants to play in the NHL yet.
Forsberg and Yakupov are the only two who really fit our needs AND can step into the NHL next season.
I'll guess either caffeine or sugar !Rockin Robert
Grigorenko: 9g 10a 19pts in 12 games as a rookie.
MacKinnon: 5g 13a 18pts in 11 games as a rookie.
Yakupov: 5g 11a 16pts in 7 games.
Galchenyuk (hasnt played, knee injury, not serious)
Forsberg: 1g in 9 games (Not unusual for a 17 yo in SEL)
Jean-Gabriel Pageau has 7g 6a 13pts in 6 games!
Puempel has 5g 5a 10pts in 8 games.
Stone ha 6g 12a 18pts in 7 games!!
Noesen having a hard time with only 1g 6a 7pts in 8 games.
Apparently they were getting a drink of water.
My god, really.. he's played TWO NHL regular season games. He needs time to adjust to the NA game. To say he sucks after two games is ridiculous. Look who he is playing with to start.
Or Sean Monahan of the 67's... he will be up near the top of the draft picks as well.
