Regin Injures Ankle (Update 5:31 PM)

(UPDATE 5:31 PM)- Bruce Garrioch has quoted Asst GM Tim Murray saying that Regin is fine and will be good to go for the main camp. Our first non-story of the 2011/2012 season!

For the second straight season, the Ottawa Senators have been hit by a preseason injury. According to a report in the Ottawa Sun, Sens forward Peter Regin injured his ankle in a pick up soccer game.

There was no immediate word on the severity of the injury but he did have to be carried off the field by a couple of teammates.

The second line centre position is one of the most talked about battles heading into training camp for the upcoming season. If Regin was to miss any significant time, it would certainly open the door for guys like Zibanejad, Da Costa and potentially AHL Star Corey Locke.

Regin has spent much of the offseason rehabbing a shoulder injury he suffered late last season.

Here's hoping the injury isn't severe and Regin is ready to go for training camp.

I hope it's not severe.

But 'chirp - shame on you for tossing out Locke's name. We all know he's not an NHLer and now we're going to have people make a pitch for him to get "a shot" on the second line.

Locke is a name that has already popped up. He's definitely a long shot but if there was a ever a time for him to earn a chance, it's in this year's camp.

Second line centre position is wide open.

That's good to hear, I don't want this kid to have any excuses this year. Just go out and play hard and earn the title of an up and coming player. Either break out or bust this year ... no excuses!

And please no Locke ... I'd rather see any other center in our organization. I'm not sure there's room for a 2nd PP unit specialist who sits on the bench the rest of the game.

Now would be the time to package Gonchar with two young players(who don't really figure in the mix) for Stastny. What a one two punch of Spezza and Stastny. Would make Vegas worried about nuts who put money down on Ottawa. The stupid site has Nashville trading Suter + a player for Stastny. If we could pull this off + not get rid of any of our future forwards(Stone- Noesen-Ziby-Pri nce-Puempel), we"d be in business. How about this offer Gonchar+Wiorcio ch+one of (Foligno or Regin) for Stastny.

I like the rumors about Statsny and even Turris possibly being available. Both would look good as a 2nd line C and I too would be happy if the sens made a move for 1 of them. I just worry the price will be a lot higher. Since both teams are "rebuilding" I'd imagine they'd want one of our top 3 D prospects plus.

Gonchar has a NTC and I don't think he would waive to go to Colorado. My guess is IF he is moved -- at the deadline to a playoff contender who has had a long term injury to a puck-moving D..

Stastny would be amazing - turris would be a nice 2nd prize. johne you have to be aggressive as a GM. Sens can be back in the game with one move and basically not really affect their core coming up. Wiorcioch is promising + he played at Denver U. Theyve shown interset in Gonchar + another forward. I would do it in a second. I think we could ice a very very competitive team and leave all the young guys to develop in their junior leagues + AHL. Worth a try I say.

Philly rebuilt in a year or two after floundering a few years back. Don't fool yourselves SENS want a quick rebuild A LA Flyers. Sens fans are very fickle - you could tell the building had empty seats at the end of the year. I think we need a 2nd center - would allow the young guys the time needed to develop.

major difference between the two.

philly had three first rounders outside of the top ten turn into high impact nhl players including carter, richards and giroux.

unless foligno, o'brien and say noesen have the same result it aint happenning.

Forget about O'brien(never amount to much) and Foligno what you see is what you get. Why throw out those 2 names. You could have mentioned Butler, Zibanejad, Da Costa, Stone, Noesen,Puempel, Silverburg before them. I think there r some good players there! You have Spezza and Stastny(and you fill in the rest of the top 6). Admit it makes things alot more interesting. Would we have to really touch the key elements. I don't think so. I think we have some gems taken in late rounds who"ll be players Hoffman - Stone. Looking promising so far. When you have to top centers you fill in the pieces with young guys. Worked for Pittsburgh.

We had a second line centre named Antoine Vermette whowe traded for Pascal Leclaire. He has scored 110 points in the past 2 seasons and never missed a game.

If Stastny is available you have to go for him while we are in rebuild. This season we do not need Gonchar, Wiercoch, and Foligno. We do need Stastny to centre a second line and give this team the 1-2 punch any future contender has to have. The thought of having Spezza, Stastny, and Zibby down the middle for the next few years should make any Sens fan excited.

People throw around "made Of glass" and "injury prone" far too often. The kid has 1 injury and he is made of glass? Really? C'mon. Leclaire I'll give you, but seriously 1 injury is not injury prone

I love Lehrner but since another goaltender wasnt picked for 16 spots after we picked him (and by the way he wasn't our first pickin the second round) I think we could have got him regardless.

I love Lehrner but since another goaltender wasnt picked for 16 spots after we picked him (and by the way he wasn't our first pickin the second round) I think we could have got him regardless.

we used our own 2nd round pick to get silfverberg at 39. then we used CBJ pick at 46 to get lehner.
probably took the best players out of the 2nd round that year. i love our scouts.

I understand that Corey Locke is a long shot and likely destined for a career as an all star AHLer, but to say that he has had "multiple" chances at making a big roster isn't really true.

He is a play-making centre that needs skilled wingers to be effective. Not sure he has ever been put in that position. Certainly not here in Ottawa.

Also, I have heard the Sens are looking to have cheerleaders in place for next season. Anyone else hear about this?
And no Tookie, I'm not sure what time and day tryouts are being held.

Although not likely to fill the roll I do think Locke deserves a shot at the 2C spot. One last chance to prove himself will not hurt us. Throw Zibanejad and DaCosta into the mix for training camp and may the best man for the job be rewarded.

So tell me why would you want Turris. The kid has done minimal on a bad team. As a High pick he should have been a stand out of some sort by now. If the rumor is true that he wants 4 million then forget it. Our kids deserve a chance and would cost a lot less. Now if you were talking stansty or Zajac or someone of that ilk then that's a different matter.

Not cheerleaders but some sort of in-game entertainment group giving out prizes and energizing the crowd. It sounds a lot like cheerleaders but they aren't calling it that.

That trade got us Lehner with that 2nd round pick.... I would say that was a great pickup..

If I'm KK -- it try Locke with Petersson & Caporusso down in Bingo. That could be quite a good line..
