Heritage Jersey Update- Round 2 Topics

(UPDATE 9:45 PM)- The Binghamton Senators have retained a key piece of the Calder Cup winning team signing forward Kaspars Daugavins to a one year deal. Was really disappointed when I heard he was looking at a possible return to Latvia. Great to have him back with the BSens.

(UPDATE 11:48 AM)- The post from Icethetics is now up and can be seen here. Along with a prototype for the jersey, the post also includes a look at some of the plans the club has in place for the 20th Anniversary Season. Looks like an awesome season ahead in Ottawa!

It has been a question that many Sens fans of asked about and thanks to the blog Icethetics, it sounds like we may soon have our answer.

According to a Tweet released by the logo and jersey blog, they have a confirmed version of the Ottawa Senators new heritage jersey and will be releasing it shortly.

There has been a ton of speculation around the jersey and at last word, the club was expected to formally release it sometime next month.  Icethetics is known for having the latest on NHL jerseys and is the most reliable source on the subject. Should be interesting to see what they have to show us.

@Icethetics Wow. Just got a look at the Senators' new Heritage Jersey. You'll get to see it on the blog tomorrow.

Sounds like they like what they see. I'll do some digging today and see if anyone has an image I can pass along.  Based on some of the comments that have been made on Twitter I get the sense this jersey is going to be very close to the fan design that was so well received in the past.

You can see that design here.

Round 2 of the SensChirp Search will take place this week with our three finalists from last week battling it out for the chance to be a contributor here on SensChirp.  Over the last two days, readers have passed along a number of great options for article subjects and here are the three I have settled on.

  • Is Daniel Alfredsson a Hall of Famer?
  • Assessing the changes in Binghamton
  • Looking Ahead- Projecting the Ottawa Senators Rebuild

I don't want to rush the finalists so I'll just post  the entries as they arrive.  I'd like to have a winner in place by the weekend.

I still don't understand the hatred for one jersey but the love for the next... To me the only difference is the logo on the front, they are both black jerseys with red and white trim.

We are swapping out "Sens" for a big O... Personally I don't hate or love either, but I just can't understand how some people have a hate on for one jersey but then absolutely love the other one..

I'll continue to rock my red circa 2005 jersey.. LOL

I'm excited for the new jersey. However, I would love if the team eventually went back to the 2-D logo, with white and black jerseys. That was a classy look

Hey SENS Fans,

VERY interested in the new jersey design as i am one of the suckers that has every jersey the SENS have had (excluding 2, the early black with a white stripe and the current home red). I'll be buying 2 new jersey's this year, the other is the Ottawa All-Star Jersey, any chance you could find the design of that yet chirp? The patch alone is really nice. Thanks,

C-Mac

A little more speculation on the jersey...

Apparently it will have a commemorative logo on the sleeve, and it will be similar to the version featured above, except there will be additional lines on the collar and around the waistline.

@Chirp maybe I'm not looking at the leaked jersey from the right angle, but it appears to me that it's inconsistent with the sneak peak that was released by the team at the Hot Stove event. The team's version had a different stripe pattern and it appeared that the stripes ran down the sleaves. The sleaves in the icethetics version are straight black above and below the elbow. In addition, the shoulder patch that is situated at chest height on the right side of the jersey displayed at the Hot Stove event is absent from the prototype produced by icethetics. The icethetics version displaysa patch located on the left shoulder.

What do you think?

In fact it's almost identical minus the shoulder patches. Maybe we're looking at a gradual rebrand after all?

It's an O not a 0, who's the zero when you don't know the difference and yes it'd be a punchline for opponent's fan's but if you can't take the heat you better get out of the kitchen.

After seeing the Icethetics photo I think what they did was fold both sleeves over the crest and probably folded them again back over themselves. The result was that it appeared as though one shoulder patch was on the chest and the stripes looked somewhat vertical. The Icethetics guy is nearly always accurate when he posts leaked photos, especially when he says they're the real deal.

People that say, "Oh I hate this jersey because the other team will make fun of them for having a ZERO on their shirt", are a bunch of idiots.

It's the letter O, not Zero. Ottawa starts with the letter O. Do people make fun of Ottawa because the name of their city starts with a ZERO? Would they make any sense if they did?

It's creating drama where there is none, something some of you are good at.

I was expecting it to be a little better. It might be a little too plain for me. On the current 3rd jersey if you remove the logo that says "SENS" I really like the look of that one. I'm glad they're going with the O in this one, but I wish it wouldn't be so plain around it. It basically reminds me of the old black jersey we used to have for away games or you could also say it kind of looks like Chicago's 3rd jersey as well.

its a 3rd jersey, used what like 10x a year or so? not a jersey to identify a team by, but its fun. and gives a fresh look for fans who might want to update their jersey collection. i swear, people will complain about anything just to complain.

Dude! Jerseys aren't about the fans, it's a product and it's all about merchandising, marketing and making money. In today's hockey it's quite normal to see a jersey update/change every 2-3 years.

Do you seriously think they'll stop making jerseys for the over-sensative fans who are afraid of change?

I'm really excited for next season. Once we get through August.. it will be only 2 weeks to training camp.

I also like the 'events' the team is planning. Especially the one where the Sens will travel by train and 'sell packages to fans'... sign me up right now.... I'm in on that one.

Ok maybe I do have to book a trip back to Ottawa this season!

That jersey looks AH-MAZING! So happy that we're finally getting our true retro look; now the only question is who do you get on the back? I'd love to pay homeage to 'One-Eyed' Frank McGee who scored like 135goals in 45 games (all after losing the use of 1 eye as a teen-ager) with the Ottawa Hockey Club before heading off to fight in WWI and giving his life at the Battle of Sommes. In the Stanley Cup Challenge against Dawson City he scored 14G in 1 game (including 8 in a row in a 9-minute stretch) for which he still holds the Stanley Cup / Professional Hockey records.

We know Frank Finnigan wore #8 because that's what number was retired by the club - but where could we find a list for the others?

Yeah I'm not a fan of the "Zero" personally. I may get one but I'll be removing that and just going with the barberpoles to avoid causing snide comments.

And if you're saying it's not a zero, "0" is what a zero is,resembling that. The "O" is more ellpitical and rounded. Round out that figure and I'm in!

Anyone think Daugavins will ever have a role on the big club?

I know there is a plethora of skilled bodies up front right now (including many exciting prospects) but leadership is not something that can be taught, and I think Kaspars' performance in the AHL playoffs says a lot about his character. Let's also remember he was a decent offensive threat in junior.

Personally I could see him being a 4th liner on the team once we part ways with Neil (trade deadline?), Winchester (similar to Daug), and Konopka (1 yr contract). Thoughts?

@SensibleMac: Very true, but do you think if Smith sticks around and perhaps one of Konopka/Neil is retained, he could fit well alongside them?

Potential roster (2012-2013):

Butler-Spezza-Filatov
Silfverberg-Zibanejad-Alfredsson
Regin-Foligno-Greening
Smith-Konopka-Daugavins

The only problem with this is that we will have other more skilled prospects like Condra, DaCosta Petersson, Puempel, Prince, and Pageau, not to mention current regulars Michalek or Winchester (assuming they will be traded) or next year's draft picks or any potential UFA signings. Good to see so much talent, but I think Daugavins will be victimized by the numbers game.

@ SC

This is what I see:

Today's entry is on projecting the Sens rebuild. There was no word limit in this round so entries will be a little longer. Love the creativity shown by today's contributor. Check it out!

Quoting DiMillonator:
Anyone think Daugavins will ever have a role on the big club?

I know there is a plethora of skilled bodies up front right now (including many exciting prospects) but leadership is not something that can be taught, and I think Kaspars' performance in the AHL playoffs says a lot about his character. Let's also remember he was a decent offensive threat in junior.

Personally I could see him being a 4th liner on the team once we part ways with Neil (trade deadline?), Winchester (similar to Daug), and Konopka (1 yr contract). Thoughts?

There will be injuries in the forward ranks for Ottawa this year... he will probably be the 1st callup. Sens forwards can't stay healthy.

I see he has a 10 game minimum call up clause in his contract before dec 15th.
