The Search for a New SensChirp Contributor

The NHL off season is officially upon us.

Aside from the recent departure of AHL goaltender Barry Brust, Sens news is pretty hard to come by these days.  From now until the end of August, there obviously won't be a whole lot for fans of the Ottawa Senators to discuss but I suppose the good news is it's only a couple months till training camp!

With the team's roster seemingly set, we can expect limited movement from the Sens over the next little while.  Murray will continue to work to create a little bit of wiggle room on the club's blueline but those moves aren't likely to happen until a little closer to training camp.

Meanwhile, I'll do my best to keep the website interesting during the downtime.

Over the next couple of weeks, I was hoping to hold a sort of "open audition" for a new contributor here on SensChirp.  Reading through the comment section it's clear that many of you write well and have plenty to say about the Sens. Well this is your chance to have your work featured on a more regular basis.

For now the position is a sort of unpaid internship, but it is a great opportunity to have your work exposed to a large number of die hard Sens fans.  If you are interested, please submit an article no longer than 400 words in length to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  It can be on anything related to the Ottawa or Binghamton Senators.

Along with that, please include your name, email address and a little bit about why you think you would make a good contributor here on the site.  The deadline for submissions is Friday, July 22, 2011 at 5:00 PM.

  • I mentioned on Twitter that I would have information about the next SensChirp contest up today but I'm going to have to hold off. Still trying to sort out all the details, including the prize for the winner.  Stay tuned for that either tomorrow or the next day.
  • With all the recent changes, it's pretty clear the team in Binghamton will be quite different next season.  Since winning the Calder Cup last month, the club has said goodbye to Ryan Keller, Ryan Potulny, Derek Smith, Roman Wick, Andre Benoit, Geoff Kinrade, David Hale, Barry Brust and Cody Bass.  They will also lose Bobby Butler, Erik Condra, Colin Greening and Zack Smith because those four will spend the full season in Ottawa.  Should be interesting to see what Kleinendorst can do with that group next year.

Thanks for the update Chirp, I was trying to get a complete list together of everyone who left Bingo. Wow, that is a depleated lineup. Kleinendorst will be tested this year for sure.

As for another writer, I can expect you'll receive many entries. Good luck making a choice!

Great idea Chirp! Once you get all the entries you should pick your top 5 and post them on the site. Releasing 1 new one each day. Then let the readers of the site choose who they like best. It might help you make your decision on who gets the job a little easier.

Bring in Yashin to camp on a PTO. Would that be beneficial to Filatov? Yashin as a 2nd line center would be a bit of a joke, but he still can play.

I would be open to bringing in Yashin on a tryout basis....basica lly if he makes the team out of camp...cool, if not....cool. He is a puck possesion guy(can't really skate worth a crap anymore though)

Although his agent Gandler is one of the biggest SOB's in the business.

Bring Yashin in on a tryout? Is this serious? Why don't we give Minnesota a call and trade for Heatley too while we're at it, surely he would waive for NTC for an opportunity to play on Yashin's wing! This isn't meant to be rude but that's stupid beyond belief. The only thing worse than him coming here for a tryout would be him actually making the team.

In case people forgot, he's quit on teams more often than Heatley. Plus, he sucks. If the guy isn't getting offered a contract in Russia there is something seriously wrong with him.

I have never seen tookie's comments but I've heard hes not the best person to promote sens rather than downsize every sens move I think there should be some pessimism but also ottawa has made some good moves and to say ottawa will get fist overall pick for the next 15 years is an inkling bit too pessimitic so if you are a true sens sens fan crank up the optimism (from the comments I hear tookie you are a die hard leafs fan so i'd take my advice[if I were you] before everyone ignores all your comments).

I would be in favour of bringing Ya$hin back on a Professional Tryout for the following reasons, as it would be great to see:
- him squirm every day as BooBoo asks him what it is like to be known as a money grubbing quiter & Brennan asked him whether or not Carol Ault still eats everything raw
- someone lacing the breathing mouthpiece with ipecac before Ya$hin takes the VO2 max test
- Neal, Konopka, Smith & Carkner taking runs at him
- Rod Bryden given a chance to "sharpen" Ya$hin's skates
- Gandler attempt to justify why he still holds valid credentials as an NHL player rep
- regular Sens players sending Ya$hin "buddy passes" as he crosses opposing bluelines
- Ya$hin getting cut at the end of camp

All this talk about Yashin, it's a little funny... but only because there is NO WAY Ottawa would even consider him. I think having him in the building alone would just be chaotic.

Now don't get me wrong, Yashin has skills, but remember why he ended up in the KHL? His attitude and demeanor were crap. This isn't to say he couldn't come back and help out a team in severe need of a 2nd or 3rd line C, Jet's, Wild, Preds, Yot's for one. I know, Ottawa needs a 2nd line C, but there is no way it's Yashin.

Interesting they are saying on the sens site that Cowan can make the big club out of camp no problem but then at the end added might not be till later next year or 2012 until he comes up.

thats kind of a change, could be posturing putting that up for other GMs to read.

BM is not in a strong position in a trade for defence as it is obvious we have a log jam and need to clear some players.

Yashin should never and will never be considered for a spot on a Sens roster, it's not about what he did in the past, it's about who he is as a person ... not someone you want on your team, in your dressing room or mentoring your next generation. Yashin is only being discussed because this is such a dead time of year for hockey talk. You're right though. Character has to count for something and Yashin has none.

It's kind of funny in retrospect as I recall Firestone, Bridgeman and company saying that Yashin had a stronger character than Hamrlik and they were extremely happy that Tampa left Yashin for the Sens.

Definately Yashin was the better hockey player, but obviously, Hamrlik is a far better person.

Hard to complain too much. Yashin got the Sens Spezza & Chara (& Muckalt).
