If Maclean is indeed Murray's guy, there is a chance he holds off until the Finals are over to make the announcement. There is nothing that says you can't make a move like this while the Stanley Cup is being played but teams often decided to wait.
As I mentioned late last night, still no 100% confirmation that Maclean is the guy but it sure looks that way. An email from one contact last night suggested that McKenzie was bang and Maclean will indeed be the next bench boss. McKenzie predicted on Twitter last night that the former Wings assistant ends up in Ottawa while MacTavish gets the top job in Minnesota.
Plenty of people asking about who the assistants might be in Ottawa and the names of both Kleinendorst and Cameron have been bounced around. While I think they would both be fine candidates for the job I think it's important that the decision rest with whoever they go with as a head coach.
Will update this post if I track down anything new on the coach.
- On a different note, I've been told that the NHL schedule is nearing completion and should be released in the near future. While it is still in draft form, the Senators apparently play their home opener against the Minnesota Wild. Calder Cup rematch, I suppose?
- The second episode of Senate Reform is now available. You can find it under the highlights tab on the home page.
I'm excited that it seems McLean will land this gig, he would be my first choice out of the candidates interviewed. So far the overhaul of this team is going great IMO and now we get excited for draft day.
Speaking of draft day... yes I realize that the Cup could be won as early as tonight, but given the fact that the draft is looming also, and that they would want the new coach involved as part of the process, I would sure imagine they would not wait to make an announcement, rather get things rolling! My guess is that they will announce something today.
Senate Reform Episode 2 was much more interesting than episode 1 I found. However the length of the video still leaves me wanting more.
Did anyone else love the way they dealt with McNeil? His answers in the first interview were so robotic, so they take him out to breakfast to get what they want out of him - love it.
Thanks for the best sens site on the internet!
Enjoy your day...You deserve it!
And while we wait for this emotional roller coaster to end and finally lay the head coach debate to rest... here is ep. 02... not good with the whole insert video stuff... but here is a link...

I don't suspect the coach will be announced on what could be the final game in the SCF. I personally suspect it will go to a game 7.
Get the coach and assistants hired... and then let's talk draft. Less than 2 weeks away for what could be the most important draft in Sens history.
Hope it is in fact Maclean.
heading off to watch some Senate Reform now
I was hoping the senate reform series where lengthy like the oil change ones. but any sens news is good news,
"Hearing Paul MacLean and Ottawa Senators are in final stages of completing a deal for him to become the next head coach."
Lots of speculation in Winnipeg that HNIC will want Winnipeg's home opener. You know Leafs/Habs is always one matchup, so think of who that could leave to open up in Pegcity? Keep your ear to the ground on that one.

And I certainly hope it is McLean!
http://twitter.com/DarrenDreger - "Expected" is the word I should have used.
With draft prospect interviews done, have you heard any scoop on who may have surprised in interviews? Any disappointments ?
Exactly what the Sens need. Would have liked either him or Muller. MacT wouldn't have been bad, I guess.
Good on Murray though.
Could the Sens be the next Detroit Red Wings of the East? Countless Swedish players in the system, Mike Babcock 2.0... I sure hope so!
As for McLean being hired, nonplussed at best. The announcement leaves me lukewarm, as opposed to the over the top anger of a Cameron hiring or the unreal hot tub lather of a Muller hiring.
A much better hire than the other options. Particularly MacTavish.
Have they 'bugged' Murray's office. Someone is leaking the info? Or are spies sitting outside SBP?
It's amazing that these guys are so tuned in to everything.
But I'm happy with the signing. I think he was the right choice.
Power play specialist.... something the Sens so drastically need.
Better powerplay, much better goaltending = more wins.
Previous to this year, Maclean ran Detroit's defence, turning it into one of the best units in the NHL. When McClennan left to join the Sharks, Maclean took over the offense and turned the D reigns over to Brad McCrimmon. The offense stayed strong under MacStache while the D suffered.
Detroit offered him a contract equivalent to HC pay and he turned it down to pursue an HC position. I am very happy with this potential announcement!
i just watched the senate reform, and i have 1 question. WHY must it be so short? i wish it was more in depth and atleast twice as long but thats just me.
Heres hoping we can bring over Eaves and possibly another Wing this summer.
It was great he gave you a present before the draft, but hope it stops becoming an annual thing.
