Bryan Murray has been doing some scouting the last little while with the draft now less than a month away but the club still wants to have a new coach in place before that day in June. The word is he has at least started with the interview process. An article from the Citizen's Ken Warren suggests the same.
Over the next couple weeks, there is going to be plenty of talk about Dave Cameron as the guy for the job in Ottawa.
But according to a couple contacts, Cameron is a long shot at best. His name gets tossed around a lot because of the job he has done with Melnyk's Mississauga St. Michael's Majors but Cameron as the next head coach is apparently unlikely.
In the article from Ken Warren, Murray indicates that they will at least interview Bingo head coach Kurt Kleinendorst for the position.
Still looking for your feedback regarding the next Bingo Roadie. Stop by this post to see some of the options we have for the trip and let me know which one you prefer.
Should have a plan ready to go at some point tomorrow!
I hear that. anyone of the coaches would be thrilled to be the new head coach of a new era of the winnipeg jets. Thanks to the Jets the Wings will become East and hopefully that will make the east a bit more challenging
Kleinendorst... . should stay in Bingo. I hate to be greedy, but I love what he's doing with our prospects, and I want him to keep doing it for as long as possible.
He seems to have coached Heatley out of that annoying habit he had of scoring goals, so I think he might be the man.
He signed a two-yr contract.. so that leaves only next season. He's a goner after that.. someone will take him if he's not with Ottawa Sens.
Jets are going to be in the Southeast next season.
They'll shift into the West the season after. Redwings will stay in the West until the 12/13 season.
Rick Bowness
I was thinking of him as well...... he played under Bowness, maybe he could now coach under him .... it would give the coaching staff what Bowness is missing - that being playing experience
As someone mentioned before, we've tried twice with a minor league coach being brought up and failed horribly, let's bring someone in who knows what they are doing...
I personnally hope we sign a pro coach like Dave Tippet or Kirk Muller.
C-Mac
agreed but the longer we go the less the chance of getting this. The better ones will go first, and maybe that is what BM would rather have, another coach he can control and have more influence on who plays where and when. Which I too agree, we have had, tried and failed, we need someone with experience, and who will coach with leadership, and will make all the on ice calls.
I'm with Mitchell.
This team plays at it's best in a offensive aggressive structure.
A good coach really is hard to find, especially these days...
Tyrant?
1) Experience in the NHL as a coach
2) Has a Stanley Cup ring
None of the previous coaches have had these attributes.

Again completely agreed in principle, however I believe that BM has plenty of influence over his coaches, he has his fingerprints in the everyday dealings of the teams, including lineups, who plays, who sits, and who is sent down. Do I know this for a fact...No, but judging by who he has hired as coaches, and some of the decisions made by "coaches" in the past, and as well comments after the games it is clear who is influencing these decisions. And as you said the best coaching candidates will demand that they have the control of the game time decisions. So I see this as a disconnect, BM wants control, best coaches want the control, hence the last 4 coaches we have had, were not the best candidates with little experience.
We need this to change, but not sure BM is agreeable to this change
This is why of all the myriad of names being bandied about, Ken Hitchcock makes the most sense, and seems like the safest bet to me. This and he has had plenty of experience coaching Spezz at the Worlds.
And if the rookies make a mistake, he will nail their asses to the bench.... no thanks
I second the no thanks, short shelf life, bad with young players (which we have plenty of) and I believe the fatness prevents him from running up tempo practices (just kidding... not really)
I'm actually happy Cameron has continued to be unable to elevate his teams this year, hopefully this means Melnyk's voice for him is getting weaker!
Craig Ramsay.
Now that would be the ideal coach.
I expect Cameron or Kleinendorst or someone...but not anyone experienced at the NHL level.
Wow, you have no clue do you, Ted Nolan was absolutely hated by his players, haha, the locker room was always in an uproar over his coaching tactics and player management. Many rumour have him pegged as being an asshole with power. Theres a reason he hasnt coached ever after...
@ SENSible Musings
The SENS clearly stated that they are going after someone with NHL experience, a veteran coach.
he wants to shortlist.
He should interview the top 3 finalists, at least 2 more times, to help him arrive at the eventual final decision.
Less than 1 month remains until the June 24th Draft, and I expect that Murray will have someone hired by that date.
