ISS Rankings Released

The International Scouting Service released their latest rankings and there are some interesting difference between their list and the top North American Skaters according to the NHL Central Scouting earlier this month.

One thing that remained unchanged was #1, Ryan Nugent Hopkins was tops on both lists.

Here is a look at the Top 10 on the ISS list. Interesting to note that Sean Couturier is ranked ahead of Gabriel Landeskog according to the ISS.

1. RYAN NUGENT-HOPKINS C 6'0 170 L Apr. 12/93 Red Deer WHL
2. ADAM LARSSON D 6'3 200 R Nov. 12/92 Skelleftea SweE
3. SEAN COUTURIER C 6'4 195 L Dec. 12/92 Drummondville QMJHL
4. GABRIEL LANDESKOG LW 6'0 207 L Nov. 23/92 Kitchener OHL
5. DOUGLAS HAMILTON D 6'4 193 R Jun. 17/93 Niagara OHL
6. RYAN MURPHY D 5'10 176 R Mar. 31/93 Kitchener OHL
7. RYAN STROME C 6'0 183 R Jul. 11/93 Niagara OHL
8. JONATHAN HUBERDEAU C 6'1 168 L Jun. 4/93 Saint John QMHL
9. MIKA ZIBANEJAD C 6'0 183 R Apr. 18/93 Djurgarden SJ18A
10. JOEL ARMIA RW 6'3 191 R May 31/93 Assat FinE

The ISS top 30 is available here.

Here is a link to the list released by NHL Central Scouting.

Huge difference in Huburdeau's ranking.

Then again, he does play on the best Junior team in the country.

Interesting to see Strome ahead of him.

And I'm sure that the Sens scouts have a completely different list than the ISS and NHL Central Scouting. Man oh man what I wouldn't do to get my hands on our list! :)

There has been a lot of movement in the player rankings among the various lists. It would be very interesting to see the individual team lists. I think this is pointing to a very volatile 1st round of the draft. Teams could be trading up or down to get their preferred player.

The differences between this list and all of the other lists is validation enough that drafting 6th overall might end up yielding the player that Ottawa wants anyway.

And none of that matters, because regardless of who goes where at this year's draft, David Rundblad is going to win the Calder next season.

Every time I see another ranking, it reinforces my belief that we shouldn't part with any significant assets to move up...not even someone like PW.

In 5-10 years, the best player from this draft could be the #1 pick, but it could just as easily be 2-8...

Is it just me or is this the most reasonable, agreeable thread ever?!

Couturier's been all over the place from 1st-6th over the last year.

Interesting to see Hamilton and Murray up above both Huberdeau and Strome. We never talk about them here because we're highly unlikely to take a D man, but they could affect our plans drastically (ie it would be a shame to trade up a few spots to get a guy, only to have him be available at 6th because both these D get picked).

Probably dreaming but...I think both Jersey and the Islanders may go defense based on team needs (Jersey should for sure). If Larsson gets picked by one of the top 3, that would leave Couturier/Strom e/Huberdeau for the Sens at 6. Imagine if things played out like this:
1) Larsson/RNH
2) RNH/Larsson
3) Couturier/Huberdeau
4) Hamilton
5) Murphy
6) Landeskog

Dare to dream...

I would love to see Murray try to swap some picks in order to get an earlier draft then 6th and go for Landeskog. I think that kid is going to be amazing and he's NHL ready now.

@BlackTerror
I'm hoping Cowen and Rundblad play for the Sens next year - forget the Calder.
As for the draft, as a follower of all thing drafts, this will be an interesting year. In my opinion, RNH is the top guy - speed, hands, hockey IQ ... but he's smallish. Then there's Larsson ... a steady, more or less stay at home D man - really what the Oil need. It depends however on what they want to do - if it's to put fans in the seats then it's RNH. As for 3rd, Landeskog is better overall than Couturier. Upside is a question mark. I'd like to see the Sens move up and grab him at 3 - I don't see him being drafted before 3rd overall. 4th - Hamilton really came into his own this year. Note: he comes from a sports family - father won a rowing medal, mother played basketball and brother was drafted by SJ - in the 7th I think. It really depends on need in terms of who gets taken where. At 5, Murphy is a really talented offensive D man. And at 6, I see the Sens taking Strome.

Just spoke to someone with the Sens regarding the possibility of a Bus trip to Binghamton if they made the second round.

Would anyone be interested in that sort of thing? Don't have any prices yet but just trying to gauge interest.

Sens have five picks in the first two rounds, they should get some pretty good prospects in there. Obviously they're going to take their chances in trading up.

As for the later rounds, I think they should take a look at Jean-Gabriel Pageau from the Gatineau Olympiques if he's still available in the third round.

I think the Sens should stay put and draft at the 6 spot. I mean Landeskog's numbers are comparable to Matt Puempel's:
LANDESKOG, GABRIEL OHL 11/23/92 6' 0.5" 207 LW 53 36 30 66 61 ....
PUEMPEL, MATT OHL 01/24/93 6' 0.25" 196 LW 55 34 35 69 49...
Now I know stats aren't everything and I haven't watched both play to make the most informed decision (I know some here just look for a reason to attack), I just don't agree with trading our nashville pick and/or Patrich Weircoch to move up 3 spots.....not worth it

I think the team most affected by the cap next season will be San Jose

They have 51+ million commited, with 5 forwards (including setoguchi) and 2-4 defencemen to sign (depending on how comfortable they are with low salaried rookies taking up their 5/6 spots)..

it's going to be a tight squeeze.

Might be the perfect time to make a pitch for Seto, Clowe, or pavelski (ya, right!)

As for the draft:

I'm more curious to see what we end up doing with our Nashville pick.. if anything says 'move up' its a team with a mid/late first rounder and a plethora of 2nd rounders.

I see us moving within the top 15 with that Pick. (if Nashville gets eliminated early, possibly move within top 10)

I really hope that we just keep the 6th pick and get one of Strome, Huberdeau, or Couturier. I wouldn't be against the idea of trading up with the Nashville pick, especially if we end up getting the conditional second next year. I would love it if we somehow managed to come away with one of the previous 3 and Zibanejad. How high do you think we'd have to move up to get him?

That TSN list really doesn't seem to take into account the leagues some players are in. With the final rankings, and assuming we are avoiding D, I'd like to see the sens either move up to get RNH or Landeskog, or just take Strome/Huberdea u/Couturier at 6. I personally don't see it as worthwhile to move up for those last 3 though. Strome is a pretty good consolation prize at 6th though if it were to go that route.

Detroit up 3-0 on Pheonix. I'm hoping for a Red Wings sweep and a possible Dave Tippet firing, so Murray can have a shot at hiring him. He's a good coach who I think would be great coaching the Sens! Go Wing Go!

Chirp,

What would it take to get Ryane Clowe out of San Jose

Nashville 1st and prospect

What are you thought
He would be a great top 6 foward.

Clowe - Laich - Glencross

What about that hard nose second line.

I just looked at the list of players being considered for the Calder trophy and interestingly the top 6 were selected 7th or later. Couture (1st round/9th overall) - BTW BM tried to get him in the MEatley trade; Grabner (1st round/14th overall); Crawford (2/52); Skinner (1/7); Shattenkirk (1/14); Neuvirth (2/34) ... shows you never can tell. I have a feeling that Strome will be very good for our team or any other team that takes him.

I say let the 6th overall stay where it is.

Try to trade up with the Nashville pick... it may not 'cost' as much as trying to trade into the top 3 with the 6th overall.

Hopefully keep 2 of the 2nd rounders... and keep drafting forwards... and at least 1 goaltender. We do need a young goaltender to be ready in about 5 - 6 yrs to play with Lehner.

Fisher is doing great in the playoffs... too bad he was injured for the last couple of playoffs the Sens were in. Best of luck Mike.

Go Wings... Detroit is my second favorite team.

Go Kings... demolish those Sharks.

The Binghamton road trip idea is picking up steam. Sounds like the tickets would be around $20 each and then with the bus included around $70-$80.

Sounds like a great price. Bingo would have to make the second round to put this together though.

Chirp?

Might be a stupid question -- but I assume this more of a down and back sort of thing -- as opposed to a couple of games -- or is that getting too complicated?

I think the SENS should stand pat at 6 and try and move that Nashville pick up to a top ten pick also. If too costly target the Calgary pick(at 15) cuz they would easily swap it for two seconds(+ a body maybe). We would then have 3 - 1st round picks. Calgary has no 2nd or 3rd rounders this year.

I want Landeskog or Strome. NOBODY ELSE with that 1st pick.
Couturier has had a lazy year, his skating is lack luster and he floats sometimes. As a result his ranking has dropped and rightfully so. Huberdeau is also QMJL. Thats a league with no defense and i dont care about high ceilings. If you're from the Q forget your ceiling! Your offense might not even translate at the nhl against good defense. DONT TAKE anyone from the QMJL with that 1st selection. WE NEE LANDESKOG OR STROME. NOBODY ELSE.

Back on topic...

The rankings are so volatile that I really can't see Murray trade one or both of our 1st round picks to move up. Too risky.

I'm quite comfortable with the 6th pick... I would even go as far as saying the 6th pick is probably better than the 4th pick for Murray's sake! Why? It's essentially the same pick but with less pressure ;)

Ya never know this was last year's final ISS rankings:
1 Hall, Taylor
2 Seguin, Tyler
3 Gormley, Brandon
4 Tarasenko, Vladimir
5 Fowler, Cam
6 Niederreiter, Nino
7 Gudbranson, Erik
8 Johansen, Ryan
9 Skinner, Jeffrey
10 Forbort, Derek
compare that to the actual draft:
1 Taylor Hall
2 Tyler Seguin
3 Erik Gudbranson
4 Ryan Johansen
5 Nino Niederreiter
6 Brett Connolly
7 Jeff Skinner
8 Alexander Burmistrov
9 Mikael Granlund
10 Dylan McIlrath

and this draft is supposed to be more unpredictable so who knows who will be available at the 6 spot

Bingo has no decent defensive d playing. Schira/Kinrade are the only players who play decent level defensive game and Schira is comng off and injury. Weircioch/Benoi t/Columne??/are very weak on the back end. I could see Wiercioch being moved, he is terrible defensively and not good enough offensively.
