Earlier this morning the Sens recalled five players from the Binghamton Senators of the AHL. Bingo locked up their playoff spot last night with an OT win over Norfolk. Greening, Condra, Hale, Smith and Benoit will all be in the line up for the Senators tonight.
Montreal locked up their playoff spot in their last contest but are still fighting for positioning with the Sabres and Rangers. For Ottawa, they can still move around a little bit at the bottom of the standings but the way the Islanders and Panthers are playing it looks like a 26th place finish is the most likely result.
Ottawa will go with Craig Anderson in goal. Montreal counters with Alex Auld.
No word on how the Sens will line up for this one but you would expect Greening and Butler to line up on the top line with Spezza. Should be interesting to see if Da Costa gets any more ice time than he did on Tuesday night. Not sure he played a single shift in the second period and only saw the ice once late in the third.
Speaking of bizarre coaching decisions, it really sounds like Clouston's fate has been decided. There are rumours out there that suggest he won't even perform the traditional exit interviews with players.
Despite the late season surge, the writing has been on the wall for Clouston for awhile. All season I talked about issues between Clouston and the players and even with some of the vets gone, it's hard to imagine he will be back. He is an extremely hard -working guy though who will land on his feet somewhere.
Craig Anderson is starting
Anyways, anyone know which day the lottery is?
Tuesday at 8 on TSN
Hey Chirp how do I access the prospect page, I can't seem to find it.
thanks
What is the prospect page?
i guess the mceliney experiment is over and he won't be signed in ottawa.
Alain Vigneault will be available following their first round loss to the Blackhawks.
GO SENS GO!
I thought there was a link to it.
I think it was you who posted draft predictions yesterday
just curious about ottawa taking catenacci with our '22nd/23rd' pick.. do you mean catenacci who plays for kitchener??
why him? he's 5'7", already 20 years old, and has never scored 20 goals in junior..
let me know
On another note.. Landeskog is out of the playoffs.. kitchener almost came back from a 3-1 series deficit but lost in game 7... Landy was minus 3 in the final match..(cant take the pressure??)
Lando's misfortune is a blessing in disguise if the other teams ahead of us in the draft pass him up because of his performance.
Ahh yes, here is a link to the most recent one from April 4...
http://senators.nhl.com/v2/ext/PDFs/Prospect_Update-110404.pdf
I'm allll good with that. would love to get landeskog (I'll be happy with any of the top 5), but I think he'll go 2nd regardless of the playoffs and I don't think Ottawa should trade up to get him.

Dork...
Down here in Mexico we take the cure-all tequila and Mota for that.
BTW..Mota is high octane weed.
You can follow the game here via boxscore

Here's hoping they can even up the series and take it all!
Oh yeah, go Sens go!
who knows..
Landeskog's performance was not the problem. The guy had 10 points in those 7 games. In fact, I'd say it was because of him they came back to force a game 7.
Don't worry about where we finish. Karma will come back to bite the other teams that tanked in the ass. We're still in a lottery position and that is at least guaranteed. If we do wind up with the 5th pick Murray can still move up in the draft. It's basically going to come down to Landeskog or Strome. Personally I would prefer Lando as well.
http://www.mynhldraft.com/NHL-Mock-Draft/
I truly believe that the decision on who starts, is Coach Clouston's. He has shown favoratism towards Elliott, during the season, and I do not blame him, since Leclaire was unreliable due to constant injuries.
However, you would think that he might have chosen McElhinney for this game tonite, and gone with Anderson in facing Boston, in last game of the season ??
Projected Lineup posted by Ottawa Sun, will no doubt be different, when the puck drops at 7:08 PM.
I'd be trying to win every game if I were him.
Tonight is a home game, it might simply be that Anderson gets the last home game and McBackup gets the last away game ... or that McBackup's fate has already been decided so why waste more time on him.
I don't get why people act like starting your #1 goalie in the last home game of the year is some atrocious mistake. It's common sense!
ya, hey, remember when Chris Kelly's production went through the roof at last years playoffs?? but Ottawa lost in first round anyways?
Nobody cares about point production, its about winning games. at this point I would rather have Strome than Landy, at least he wins series'
Way too many people on this site with this opinion.
Professional athletes do not tank. It's a rule with some exceptions, but PURPOSELY tanking is unacceptable to the league, management, players and (it SHOULD be) to fans.
It's just something you don't do as a professional. If you're going to replace your goalie, why not rest Spezza, Michalek and a few other of our best players and call up our entire Bingo team with 15 games left... that would get us our pick.
Anybody else hear how stupid all this sounds? The reason we HAVE a lottery in the first place is to deter tanking.
There's a big difference between being happy that the Sens lose and purposely trying to lose to get a pick.
That's just pathetic.
I know he will not be back next year and that's fine. I don't agree with it, but hey, that's the way the cookie crumbles.
What I will NOT be ok with is if we hire Dave Cameron. What would be the point of firing a young inexperienced coach, for an ever more inexperienced NHL coach??
If not Closton, then it better be a guy who has been around the league, who has the "resume" so to speak.
No point in firing Closton to hire Cameron...doesn 't make sense.
Oh boy, 2 danglers with no heart!
Rundblad stats so far, 1 shot 1 assist -1
Larsson 2 shots
Come on tookie too nice of day to hate.. . Huberdeau had 105 points 88 pims not bad for a dangler his coach says he is C and LW both thing sens need
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5gGQUcVItc
Do you think that murray will trade up in the draft for Landeskog or anyone else ? Have you heard anything
FYI, the record of McElhinney in Ottawa is 3 wins and 2 losses, and I believe that Anderson is 9 wins and 5 losses,
which are comparable. Why do you think that he is still a "Place Holder"
Oh I'm sure he will, but it sure as shit won't be in the NHL.
Quoting meadowdog:
Haha this was a joke right? Same thing happened to my mom though, bought an Elliot jersey and he was shipped out a week later. Note to all fans, don't buy a shitty goalie jersey....
His biggest problem is his stubbornness. How many things did the guy do backwards this season, for no apparent reason other than to attempt to prove that he is right? Too many to count.
The only reason the Senators made the playoffs last year was that hot streak where they won 11 in a row. If they went .500 during that stretch, they would have missed the playoffs.
Same goes for this year. The margins are razor-thin. If they had gone .500 during that massive losing streak, they would still be in playoff contention.
Since there is little difference between winning and losing, it's up to the coach to develop a system that gives his team the edge more often than not, and Clouston has failed miserably at this.
So long pal.
Haha this was a joke right? Same thing happened to my mom though, bought an Elliot jersey and he was shipped out a week later. Note to all fans, don't buy a shitty goalie jersey....
In my defense, both my Gerber and Daugavins jerseys were on sale. I'm a thrifty guy although that's not the word my wife uses.
It is now past 2:30 PM on game day !
Do you have the projected lineup, and can you please post it ??
Thanking you in advance !!
p.s I am not a huge Clouston fan I just see this as a flawed arguement.
Beer is good
Lineups have become a little trickier with all the call ups down the stretch. That and Clouston has been juggling lines like a mad man. Projected line up based on the way last game finished...
Greening-Spezza-Butler
Michalek-Shannon-Condra
Foligno-Smith-Neil
Winchester-Da Costa-Lessard
Your comment makes no sense at all. YES there is little difference between winning and losing. YES we COULD have missed the playoffs last year. YES we COULD have made the playoffs this year..
What is your point????
So it's Clouston's fault we missed the playoffs this year, but he gets no credit for us MAKING the playoffs last year??
If you can make a point next time, that would be appreciated.
Best to just ignore T^HSnookie
Thanks Chirp,
Have posted exact same line combinations on Sen Talk
Game Discussion Thread, superseding Ottawa Sun posted lineup !
Spezza has become a good all-round player with Clouston. Clouston has given him more responsibility and he is just about thriving in it.
What hurt the Sens this year was bad goaltending and the Spezza injury where the Sens got 1 win in 15 games. That about did it. They lost about 27 pts during that bad streak give or take a few.
The Sens may want to move up in the draft.. BUT what team would be willing to move down to #5. Ottawa would have to add quite a piece to do that. It depends on how badly they want Landeskog.
Considering the bad season this team has had.. these guys want to end the season on a winning note and will do whatever they can to accomplish that.
I'm going to the game.. and will be cheering them on.
It appears Rick Nash has been approached by Nonis to play in the World Championships -- what's wrong with asking Spezza?
Spezza has been one of the better players in the NHL the last couple of months.. he does not deserve to be overlooked.
So I need to change my name again... Did I run over your dog the other day? Or is this the highest form of flattery ;D
It's an absolute embarrassment if he isn't there. He will get the call.
RIP
Haha you bought a Gerber jersey! sorry but your an idiot! No hard feelings I just had to say that!
We're predicting next year's Sens-team awards!
Most points: Spezza
Most goals: Spezza
Most assists: Spezza
Top +/-: Spezza
Worst +/-: Wiercioch (sp?)
Most PIMs: Neil
Offensive pleasant surprise: Greening
Offensive disappointment: Regin (yet again)
Best defensman: Karlsson
Defensive pleasant surprise: Rundbladt
Defensive disappointment: Wiercioch
Best new player (includes this year's AHL players): Greening
Defense with most minutes played: Karlsson
Most consistent hard-working player (the former Fisher award): Foligno
Top penalty-killer: Foligno
just copy paste the format.
Sandy, again you over exagerate, Although Spezza has been lights out recently, you dont get the call up for playing well half a season. Spezza is just starting to play to Canada standards, if he can keep this up during a full year or 2, he would have gotten the call instantly.
I won't be broken hearted if Spezza doesn't get the call. Hockey Canada often uses these tournaments to evaluate players who may have a future in Olympic competition. I'm afraid the ship has already sailed for Spezza in that regard. it may make more sense to try players like John Tavares and Matt Duchene who could be a big part of our future in international competition.
Thanks Tookie. I always appreciate your candor and incredible sense of restraint.
I was just about to say that. R.I.P
This is the World Championships, not the Olympics. Spezza should be an absolute no-brainer to make this team. He is playing as well as anyone right now and the Team Canada management would be absolutely out of their minds not to include him.
There are a ton of Centres to choose from, but I wouldn't worry too much about Spezza not yet getting the call for the WC. He's healthy enough now and when he's on, he's ON. Add to that he's been defensively reponsible down the stretch.
He'd be a great choice for 1st or 2nd line Centre (behind Staal) for the WC, but if he doesn't get the call no harm no foul.
I rather a healthy Spezza for the 2011/12 season, than one who could risk getting hurt at the WC.
lol...nothing like making a glaring spelling mistake when calling somebody an idiot
But whenever you talk about our prospects such as Butler, Greening, Condra, O'Brien, Smith, etc, etc... they are never good enough. They always need more AHL time, despite the fact most of them are already approaching their mid-twenties.
Odd.
Mike, I was sad about him because he's my favorite hockey player and a greater human being.
Nothing odd about that.
People want Svatos in a Sens uniform after this season is over?
As for the 1 fan we have in here who thinks a 27yr old Spezza has already missed his chances ... thanks for the laugh, I'm so happy you don't run anything that matters to me. That is easily in the top 10 dumbest comments ever on here.
Ya, there have definitely been people commenting about that. Especially before he got hurt.
Oh, and Rundblad's team just tied up the series 1-1.
He was referring to when the Olympics roll around in 2014, and Spezza will be on the wrong side of 30, his best years could very well be behind him by then.
Skellefteå evened up the SEL finals at 1-1 in double overtime 3-2.
Rundblad 1 pp assist 4 shots -1
Larsson 0 pts 2 shots even
Can't wait to see Rundblad/Karlss on, Rundblad/Goncha r running the PP on the points next year!
@JQS
I guess then as a depth move. I know he had been picking up his game just before going down with injury but was pretty invisible in his earlier games.
No, Daniel Catenacci of the SSM Greyhounds. Michael Catenacci of the Kitchener Rangers is a different player.
P.S. BTW, Daniel Catenacci was the 1st overall selection in the 2009 OHL draft. That's not really important, unless you want to impress your friends with OHL trivia.
Don't worry, I got the context, but he's in his prime for the next couple years, to discount him because of his past level of success is, as I said, stupid. We all saw a whole new level from him this year, which should already help him climb up the ranks a few notches at least. We're talking about someone who just entered his prime!
I remember a few years back Mario Lemieux endorsing and pushing Spezza for the 2006 squad before he got injured. Time sure has flown by.
"He who shall not be named" is the highest scoring player in history for team canada. hopefully him and spezza can put things behind them and suit up with nash to be the dynamite line they once were like the world championships 2 years ago. they would make a great 1st or 2nd line and veterans to boot.
Spezza will be a beast in 2-3 years, he's stepping up his game and with young talent coming up he will succeed to his fullest potential and be one of the top ceneters in the game. i have faith that spezza wont start to decline until he's 35+ and when he retires will be one of the top point per game players ever in the nhl.
http://www.oxfordpress.com/oxford-sports/miami-university-redhawks/senior-forward-third-redhawk-to-sign-pro-deal-1129531.html
That's the word. Had a post up on it earlier this morning.
@ all - there's really only one knock on Spezza's game. We all know what it is and it's the only thing I can think of that could possibly keep him off team Canada-the-lesser.
In my mind, he's an easy lock for the best-of-the-wor st, but was on the bubble a couple of times for the OLYMPIC team because of the giveaways.
Thinking he'll be some old fart who can't play by the time Sochi rolls around is ludicrous. I'd say he's 50/50 to make the team. Can't count him out given how determined he is to improve his weaknesses (and how much he's improved already)
http://twitter.com/SunGarrioch - Then Melnyk said that coach Cory Clouston's future will be in the hands of the "next GM".
http://twitter.com/SunGarrioch - Eugene Melnyk certainly sent mixed messages.
That's why I purposely said 'some', I know that people look for any little reason to jump on a comment. It was certainly more than a few (and Svatos wasn't the only name I mentioned), including some of the regular contributors.
Don't make me go back and look for direct quotes, heh.
heatley didn't even make the all star game. He's slipping :)
I know this is optimistic, but he could be the complete package. Not amazing hands, but can drive the net or get out front. He's not blazing fast, but has good legs and doesn't shy away from hits, corners etc. I could see him scoring 20+ goals and still playing a gritty style, including a defensive game.
That was the impression I got too.
So, if that's the impression we're getting from Eugene, I wonder who he has in mind? hmmm...
Also didnt mention Elliott, Ruutu, Leclaire...
Damn, did he look happy though!
HA!
Great work playing for ''pride".
Fucking Sens, I knew they'd blow the top 3 pick. If there is any justice, we should win the lotto for actually trying.
I still believe the bottom 5 teams should each have an equal chance at the #1 cuz clearly teams just tank it on purpose like Colorado and Florida
