A stand out on this list has to be Spokane Chiefs defenceman Jared Cowen. There was some concern about Cowen spending another season in Junior but he is clearly making the best of his time down there.

In 55 games this season, Cowen has racked up 47 points (including 18 goals) and is an astounding +44. The much-talked about David Rundblad has had an excellent season in Sweden this year, picking up 50 points in just 55 games.

Fans can expect both of these guys to be patrolling the Sens blueline next season.

We've pointed him out before but the season Mark Stone is having in Brandon has really caught the attention of Sens fans and management. Stone is third in WHL scoring with 101 points in just 69 games.

Wow. Cowen no doubt will be a decent defenseman in the NHL but Runblad looks like he could be something really special. I checked the other players in the top 10 in the SEL and they are all in their mid to late 20s or even older. Whereas Cowan is playing against kids, Runblad is playing against men.

I don't even know what to think about Stone. Those are pretty incredible numbers. Anxious to see him at training camp!

As much as Cowen is dominating this season, I still think he will be in the AHL next season. Maybe get a 10 game try out, but given the number of D we have, I predict Rundblad will be the only new face.

wow! great we now have 2 great prospect's for next year on the blue line. Plus we have a high pick this year. Along with that all the draft pick's that murray has got from trades. i can't wait for draft day and for the beginning of next season. go sens go

i can't wait to see both Runblad and Cowen and how they handle the bigs. should be interesting to see if we really will have a top notch defensive squad from here on in or if its not what we thought it was... here's hoping for the best!

Was wondering if anyone knows about Silfverberg. It seems most believe he'll spend next year in the AHL, then get a shot at roster the year after, but I was wondering more about his skills. Scouting reports and first hand accounts vary from a Kelly/Arvedson type to a HAlfie (poor man's Alfie). Most seem to agree he's a smart 2way player. Some say he's an amazing PKer or has a great slap or wrist shot, but other reports contradict them. I'm thinking best case scenario is a 2nd line winger???

Anyone wanna chime in?

Murray's already said otherwise. Even if Murray's gone, the fact that he thinks Cowen is basically a lock out of camp next year means it's likely a new GM would think the same.

What's the problem with having a young D anyway? It's not like we're going for a cup next year - we know there will be struggles.

Get Cowen used to the speed of the NHL now. He has a leg up on most prospects because of his size, which means the other hard part (the NHL's physicality) won't be an issue.

Getting Rundblad AND Cowen playing with the rest of our young team get's the early stages of our rebuilt franchise started.

I think Sorensen has a better offensive reputation from what I have heard. Petersson and Silfverberg are more depth players with second line ceilings.

SC, there are many bugs and issues that still exist on this site. I'm not trying to be a hater but I am just saying there seems to be a few issues with the site.

Personally I am a big fan of this new site, but I think it would have been better if you and your IT guy worked on the prototype a little longer before you published the website.

Overall, It is still a HUGE upgrade over the old site with such additions like the forums and Yost making this site a vast improvement.

Does anyone know the rule on rundblad in terms of the AHL for this year? It appears as though skelleftea (sp?) may be eliminated in the playoffs. Can he then come over and play in the playoffs for Binghamton? Or how does this work?

I too think Cowen may start in AHL next season. Apart from the fact that we need to move a current D to make room, it now appears that Derek Smith has shown he can be a regular and should be retained. Unless Cowen is dominant in the exhibition season, he could and should be sent down to start.

Runblad will be here from the getgo.

I believe any player added to the roster now is not available for the AHL playoffs as a list had to be submitted last week. therefore players like Grant aren't avaible to play past the regular season.

That is a pretty impressive lineup if everyone plays up to thier potential and i know not everyone will but we got a nice mix of young players and solid veterans. Maybe a faster rebuild then alot of us expected. Plus it all comes down to who we draft but im leaning towards nugent-hopkins.

I think Cowen is 50/50 for next year, he needs to dominate from the start of the camp to get a place, as for Rundblad, the only thing I saw from him is the video "magic #7" and he looks really good, I'll keep my judgments until camp but I cant wait to see him ! For Cowen, +44 for a Dmen is pretty good .. and he has a lot of points for a defensive guy, well.. we'll see !

Thanks for the update Chirp! Rundblad and Cowen both look very promising and Mark Stone has very impressive numbers in the WHL. Considering the number of draft picks we have and the promising talent we already have I don't think this rebuild will take long.

I am liking the new site! I like the new pop up window for comments and the site layout better than the old setup. My only suggestion is no grey on grey text which I notice on "My page" because it is very hard to read.

I have to disagree with the author about not drafting a D no matter what. I think people have been over-valuing our D prospects. Ya they are great puck movers, but somebody has to be able to shut down the Crosbys of the league and cowen cant do that all by himself. We need a Pronger, Lidstrom, Keith, kind of guy that plays both power play and penalty kill so you have your #1 D out there for 25mins and in all the big situations.

No need to rush drafting a forward. Be patient and wait until one happens to be the BPA. If that is this year great, if Larsson is BPA take him and get blue chip forward next year.

That article is pretty good, but with a few debatable points (he undervalues Spezza and Murray, I think).

Most of the it is smart but obvious stuff, but I do like that point about the franchise centremen. Obviously it's not easy, but it's neat that there's a nearly unanimous 4yr timeline for a Cup amongst the league's best centres.

Still not sure why we extended philips, he really has had no excuse why his play has fallen off so much, this year he probably has helped the opposition score 20+ goals. It not like he missed almost a season of play and broke his foot like kuba. I know some of his +/- stats are with karlsson but he still makes bad decisions around the net.

With getting rid of the old guard and a new core, philips probably should've went. I'm still wondering why we traded away campoli when he's been one of our better defenceman and now we see lee in our top 2 D? i'm confused by these moves.
