Sens Go West- SensChirp Goes East

The Senators were back on the ice this morning after the taking Sunday off and it sounds like guys are starting to get healthy.

The flu bug that ravaged this team over the weekend seems to have subsided a little bit with most players skating today. Here is how they lined up this morning...

Michalek-Spezza-Alfredsson
Regin-Fisher-Kovalev
Kelly-Cullen-Neil
Ruutu-Winchester-Shannon

Foligno skated by himself this morning and sounds like he's getting closer. He may actually join the team on the West Coast. The news isn't as good for Kuba who could potentially miss the entire three game road trip.

Campoli did not skate.

The Sens play the Oilers in Edmonton tomorrow night. Should be interesting to see who gets the nod in goal after Leclaire turned in a solid performance on Saturday night.

No further developments on the Anton Volchenkov front. Both sides seem a little more optimistic than before the deadline but no progress to report just yet.

The Senators may be going West this week but I'm headed East! Going to be in Newfoundland tomorrow and then stops in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Updates will be a little later than usual but I'll try to stay on top of things!

GO SENS GO!

If I know Clouston, He'll start Elliot. Wish it was Leclaire because I really think this is the guy we need to get going, but I have to trust the coach on this one I guess.

lets get a 3-win road streak going. looking at the teams we're facing, it should be quiet possible.

Chrip,
That will make at least two sens fans in NL... we are a rarity on the rock

Given the time difference, shouldn't the updates come sooner? Either way have a great trip.

Good to hear about Foligno!

And as far as Volchenkov goes, do you know if both sides are still talking at least? Or have they cut off ties till after the playoffs?

Hopefully Leclaire gets the next start, he deserves it after Saturday.

Hockey's Future recently released an updated list of the top 20 sens prospects.

Here's a link for anyone who is interested:

I'm expecting Leclaire. Clouston is the type of guy who is going to want to try and get him rolling. I'd be surprised if it was Elliot after such a decent performance for once from our much maligned #1.

Hey Chirp is there any news of what the Kuba injury is? Or is the team simply doing the standard "general body soreness"??

Hey Chirp! When you're down east come by my house and we'll become best friends I'm sure!

Anon at 12:27 PM,

Great point. Will be a little busy over there though so updates will be delayed is all.

GPC,

I thought I recall hearing Kuba was a lower back issue?

I hope these end up being the lines going into the playoffs - assuming we get there:

Michalek-Spezza-Alfredsson
Regin-Fisher-Kovalev
Foligno-Cullen-Neil
Ruutu-Kelly-Winchester/Donno

(can't decide on the W/D thing, but Shannon is too small for the 4th - he can fill in most places well for injuries though)

Phil/Volch
Sutton/Karlesson
Kuba/Carkner

Tim

Creepy Chirp Stalker,

See you soon!

Winchester will be out of the line up come playoff time. Shannon has to stay in to fill any other roll that needs to be filled plus to play with Kovy since CC always goes back to Shannon - Regin - Kovy when the chips are down.

Anonymous said...

Is it just me or does KUBA seem to be a bit of a PUSSY!

GO SENS GO!

Anonymous said...

Agreed, CC will go back to Ruutu-Kelly-Neil and Shannon and Cullen will be worked into other lines and Winchester will hardly play.

Leclaire should start but with Clouston being biased (Bingo boys) I wouldnt be suprised to see Elliot in nets vs Edmonton.

I think based on his track record CC will start Lecliare. He seems to go with the hot hand, even if he decided a guy was hot over one game. Brodeur played two strong games and then Elliot played one good one and he went back to him for that amazing run. Brodeur lost his chance to the flu because Elliot came in and one upped him, much like Leclaire did Saturday. Hopefully PL gets on a nice run.

how about a Prospect update?

I would like to see Lee stay up, this time he has played very well. Carkner made the team because he can fight but he does not seem to want to anymore..

Word on the street is Murray signed Lee to a two year connie.

I'm I the only one who is super confused by this? Is this the ol' sign and trade in the off season?

What's you're opinion chirp?

Brian Lee signed a new contract for 2 years!!!

MV - thanks for the prospects link.

Any idea why Mike Hoffman isn't on the list ?

Stephane said...

Maybe they will be a separate popst, but the Sens just signed Lee to a 2 year contract.

Am I the only one who think he should be given a chance at the NHL level before being traded.

I remember 2 year ago in the playoff again Pittsburgh he was one of our best D....

Wow... Sens sign Brian Lee to 2 year extension as per bruce garrioch.... Didn't see that coming

Have a safe flight Chirp :)

On a separate note, am I the only one who was enbarrassed Saturday night ... at our loss the lowly Toronto Marlies. I understand the guys had the flu and I commend them for fielding a team, however, please don't let this happen again. With Edmonton now playing decent hockey it's foreseeable that the Leafs will finish last in the league (LAST!!!) yet we've now lost twice in a row to this BAD team. If we're truly a playoff team that wishes to make some noise come the playoffs then we will need to play 10X better than we have recently.

What part of New Brunswick are you going to? I'm from Moncton :). Cannot wait till foligno gets back he was really starting to turn into that top six he was drafted to be, and fits well under CC's system. And Volchie, after getting Sutton I was somewhat hoping he would be traded for depth puck mover or top line talent winger, but if they resign him awesome.

Just Heard the sens extended lee for 2 years .

Just saw on TSN.ca that the Sens resigned Lee to a 2 year deal....also the picture they have on the article is Karlesson and not Lee....I hate TSN....

Anonymous said...

TSN reporting that Lee has signed a two year deal with the Sens? No mention if it is a two way contract, but they have a picture of Karlesson alongside the story - WTF??

Anonymous said...

Tsn is reporting Lee has been resigned for the next 2 years

But they have a Karlsson pic up

Anonymous said...

TSN says Sens sign Lee for two years?! Why?!

Anonymous said...

Forget Volchenkov if he wants $4m bring back Sutton.. Not sure we have seen this type of physical dominance since Chara. As an added benefit his wheels are not bad at all and he will pinch in from time to time!!
only draw back... he is 33 or 34?? but wow he looked great.

Anonymous said...

Would have rather have Z.Smith than useless Kelly!!!!

Signing Lee just show's how campoli is gone next season... what a waste of a first round pick and a good vet in mcAmmond

A little disapointed to see Donovan come out of the lineup he put in a gutsy effort with the flu on Saturday against the Leafs. I think he should be someone that dresses as a fulltime RW on the 4th line.

For the guy who said give Cheechoo another shot, haha. And thatother guy who said Cheechoo is ripping it up in the AHL.

10 games, 4 goals, 1 assist, 5 pts and is a -12!!

Ripping it up!!!

LMAO!

He is not coming back to the NHL, face it, his career is over.

leclaire should start, so he can choke and get everyones faith back in elliott!!!!

Best part of the leaf game was when Sutton and some little leaf guy were pushing eachother. Then, Phaunef comes skating in like so big tough guy and Sutton onehandedly pushes him straight on his ass. haha

I live in Edmonton so I will be at the game. Its a one a year chance for me to see the Sens live so I'm defiantly taking advantage.

I would like to see Zach Smith playing. The kid seems pretty good. However, looking at the current lines I don't know where he would fit in. It would be nice to see him play.

As for the goalies, I think leClaire should play so we have two depenable goalies going into the playoffs.

Go SENS go!!
