(UPDATE 5:32 PM)- Word is Leclaire took a shot in the head in practice today and that is why he's out for tonight. As expected, Mike Brodeur will get the start n goal.
Ian Mendes is reporting that there is a chance Mike Brodeur could start tonight for the Ottawa Senators. Leclaire was hit by a shot in practice apparently.
Meanwhile, back up Brian Elliott is sick.
Very interesting turn of events...

Leclaire was hit by a shot...as in a save...tell him that it is okay and that he should do that more often!
Can this guy be any more injury prone???? Just another day in Sens land I guess.
LOL, This injury stuff is insane!!
Leclaire must be cursed, it's impossible to have less luck than him!
haha.
who's the boss eh? leclaire and elliot obviously aren't too happy about the recent state of affairs.
So Brodeur would called up on an Emergency basis, since you usually need to give the NHL 24 hours notice on a call up?
First of all, that absolutely sucks Leclaire was hit in practice..even though he has been awful lately, I was hoping he would play through it. How many times can one guy get injured?? Hopefully it's minor.
Second of all, since when is Elliott sick? That's pretty random.
Lastly, it's a shame Brodeur only gets a call up when it's due to injury. We all wanted him up and to get a shot and now he gets it but not because of strong play in Bingo and not cause Clouston wants to shake things up...because he's got no other choice.
Anyway hopefully Brodeur can jump in there and have a strong game like he did against Minny.
Another huge one tonight.
GO SENS GO!!
http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Andy-Strickland/Eddie-Belfour-Out-As-Blues-Goalie-Consultant/5/25516
Article is about Belfour not with the Blues anymore as a goaltender consultant...and after reading it, not too sure I would want him as a Goalie coach but still odd that this happens around the same time the sens fire their goalie coach
Well maybe this injury will snap Leclaire out of his slump... however im sure its not too serious
And to ANON @ 11:35 have you ever heard of a guy name Rick DiPietro??? I would take Leclaire and his contract over him any day!!
K
Thank you Jesus.
ummm quick robin lehner emergency ohl call-up.
Eli Wilson's Revenge??
Chirp,
What the status on Kuba? Is he going to play tonight?
Is this a joke? He's hurt again???
I'm in shock.
i'd bring up brodeur and start him, however i'd tell him "listen kid, here's your shot at the nhl, you can play as many games as you can but only if you win!" that should send the message to him and the other two.
Kuba did skate with the team this morning. There is a chance he could play.
Waiting for confirmation from New York.
Woo woo!!
AHL vs NHL
Go sens go!!
Last time all the sens played in the AHL the following season they did great.
Stay positive sens fan. If Murray builds it, SC will come!
I hope Leclaire battles through this. I'm not one to question someone else's character or pain tolerance but if he's dancing on the ice post-practice, he should be able to suit up for a game the next day.
@Anon 11:52 - That play until you lose thing really worked out well for Ron Wilson.
To Anon 11:52,
You mean win and your in?
I think I heaard about that last year!
No kidding he has hit with a shot... he's a friggin goalie! Is this guy made out of glass?
Guys come on, you want the nation to consider us knowledgeable loyal hockey fans and you'd like to bench Leclaire in favor of a guy who has had trouble keeping the starters job in the AHL who had one good game ... his only game in the majors? Talk about desperate, when the team starts to score, the defence helps out the goalies will play with more confidence and make some timely saves. They grip the stick just as tight as the forwards do when things don't go well. RELAX!!!
Translation: This IS a shake-up. Leclaire and Elliott are both well enough to play but the Sens are protecting them by saying they are hurt/sick. Brodeur will play a few games until the Sens feel Leclaire (hopefully) or Elliott are ready to get f'n serious out there.
SC there are sites posting pending league approval Cogs in Edm for Lee O'brien sj 2nd any truth f this ???
I've addressed that a couple times. I've not been able to confirm anything like that.
People I have talked to confirmed that there is interest in Cogliano but no deal has been completed at this point.
There are rumours out there stating the sens have interest in svatos. Hear anything SC?
if true 2 1st rounders (Lee and O'Brien) + a 2nd is a lot to give up for Cogliano
Kuba will not play tonight.
JoeNiles,
Yea I've heard the rumours about Svatos.
His price tag would be very low at this point but his contract ($2 mil) would be tough to fit in unless some salary could be moved.
I would never root against the Sens but if Brodeur is in tonight I hope he stinks so all of you can stop calling for this guy to be our goalie. Do you honestly think that this guy can turn the Sens around into a winning team? Answer is NO he cant.
I hate to do it but if it shuts some of you up then I will be cheering for a lot of goals against.
I still hope the Sens win though!!
I thought this was a JOKE!!. I went to the actual article to check.
This is rediculous. How can someone who has made it this far athletically be so brittle?
@ anon 12:17
Brodeur's only start was 4-1 win, and should have been a shutout if not for that bounce shot.
He played great and I expect him to play great again tonight. He is way better than Elliot will ever be and Leclaire is made out of glass but we already knew that. Signing Leclaire and hoping he stays healthy...that bombed!!
When will the organization give Mike Brodeur a chance?
(Just kidding.)
Talk about AHL caliber lines!!
Shannon-Regin-Kovalev
Foligno-Fisher-Neil
Ruutu-Kelly-Cheechoo
Daugavins-Smith-Donovan
How can any team win looking like this!! haha!
We have 4, 4th lines!!
James D,
Two first round busts are worth much less than first round picks.
The injury situation right now is so bad that you can help but laugh. I, for one, am definately not going to be hard on this team for a while.
My god...
I hope Leclaire gets a career ending injury. Just end it man.
Can we call up Chiodo too? This team can't get any worse so calling up TWO AHL goalies can't hurt right? bring some fresh blood into the mix and let them run with it!
Brodeur gets lit. he's going to remember his name is mike, not martin.
SWEET WE GOT BRO..oh it's Mike Brodeur the Bingo Brodeur I was pumped for a second there.
I don't see anywhere that the Sens have recalled Brodeur...
I agree with the earlier comment that said Elliott and Leclaire are both fine and that if Brodeur plays, it's a shakeup.
I also think that it is a bit of a panic move. I'd much rather they play Leclaire, and let him work through his issues. We have him for another year after this year. We have to get him going.
Also, the Cogliano rumours are worrisome. The guy has been a bust in Edmonton. I don't see any reason why he would be any different in Ottawa.
Long-term, I'd still bet that Brian Lee has a better NHL career than Cogliano. Brian Lee needs to be given the same opportunity as Cogliano. If Lee had a chance to play every day in the NHL, I think he'd be fine. He's certainly better than Picard.
mgd,
I wouldn't call O'Brien a bust since he hasn't had a chance to prove himself at the NHL level. I agree that the rumored deal is too much for Cogliano. If Edmonton would give Johan Motin, a 4th, a 5th and conditional pick. The rumored deal would make total sense.
Time to sit Neil down for a game. He is not playing like the veteran he was sign for, so much money, not earning it.
While we go all AHL on our opponents why not bring up little Cody Bass and see if he can swim in the big fish pond.
Hate on Murray all you like, but if we still had Mucks we'd be way worse, and if the injuries were the same we would have to suffer more Ray days!
I`m glad Brodeur is called up... This will make us see that he is in fact a AHL goalie... but even then.. if he turns out to be the next Brodeur I`ll eat up my words!
I wouldnt say we have 4 fourth lines.. I'd say one 3rd and 3 fourths haha I`m still going to watch the game.. SENS T'ILL THE END MY FRIENDS!!
So we are fielding 1/2 a third line, two fourth lines and an AHL line for forwards
using a season long proven poor defense
and leclair is injured... again
can we just forfeit?
this is not even funny anymore
Have the players just mentally given up
That's a lot to give in my opinion for Cogliano.. I could see Lee and O'Brien but take out that 2nd... We need all the draft picks we can get...
I have to say.. I just replied to the poll thing.. and it seems that 47% of the people would pic Michael Lehner as galie coach?? Is this a joke? Or am I missing something.. I think anwyone who has PLAYED in the NHL would be a good coach.. Especialy one who had some sort of success. But I`m no expert haha I believe I would be able to coach! hahahaha
This would make for an interesting debate if Broduer comes out and plays a solid game and gets the win.
This is turning into a farce. I almost think some bitter leaf fan got his Christmas wish granted. Leclaire gets hit by a puck and he's hurt?? Could they not at least mention that it was not a shot or something (i.e. a fluke accident during a drill) so it's not so pathetic sounding? Or maybe that it was a slap shot right on his mask and they're concerned about his newly mended cheek bone?
Oi vey.
I think Bass is still suspended. And Neil is one of the few who looks like he give a sh!t out there these days. (Fisher, Shannon, Phillips, Volchenkov are the only other guys that seem to care all game long.)
if we make it to the Olympic break above 10th in the East, i'll be happy, but thats unlikely. More likely 12th or 13th.
I know everyone here hates Cheech - but we've got, what, a dozen guys out and he's still on the third line? Why not put Cheech, Fisher and Kovalev out there for 30 minutes and see if they can pot a couple?
Hax - I think it's my fault. You see, I made a wish on my birthday last year that the Leafs would continue to suck and that they'd trade away their next two first round picks for a player who couldn't make a difference on his own and would eventually become the whipping boy in Toronto. And that by finishing dead last for the next two years those top picks would help a division rival build a team that would squash the Leafs for years to come.
If I had thought it through, I would have made it so the other team was Ottawa and the player going to Toronto was Heatley.
So I guess this is payback for that - sorry everyone.
Engin, your stupid, stop posting on here..I think you are retarded or skitso or something...Are you all there? You don't seem to know what is going on half the time...Whats wrong with your brain, does it even work?
Another site is saying that Edmonton and Montreal pretty much have a deal in place and Cogliano would end up in MTL.
I'm joking here, but I wonder if we would have more chance to win by dressing Volchenkov as a goalie, the guy loves to block shots and is far more resistent to injuries than a regular human being.
Am I really joking?
Capouel
Leclaire stopped a shot? No wonder he's out, it's likely the shock at having done his job that got to him.
Brodeur should be fine folks. He's not been scouted to death and yes, the Wild did have their equipment burn down but he DID play well against them.
Just keep Gaborik to the outside...
GO SENS!
This would be much more interesting if it WAS a shake up...
I bet it's not though.....
KILL THOSE BROADWAY BITCHES!!!!! GO SENS GOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
I don't believe for a second that Leclaire is hurt and Elliot is sick. Like Justsayin pointed out, the goalies are being sheltered until they get their confidance back or the goilies are giving the organization the good old screw you in support of their coach that was just fired. I would bet it's the goalie tandem letting managment know that their pissed about the implications of firing Eli Wilson.
We'll be in 12th by the end of the road trip. Too steep of a hill to climb by then.
I don't think Leclaire is seriously injured. Probably just a bruise or something. This looks like a shakeup more than anything.
Honestly if Leclaire is actually hurt again it's ridiculous. The guy needs to man up and play through it. I never liked that he took the whole 4 1/2 weeks to get back from a cheekbone injury when he looked fine.
It will be nice when we get rid of the MASH unit and our players return to health.
Brodeur blows there's a reason he's only played 1 NHL game. Anyone who thinks he is better than our two guys right now is hysterical from the losing streak.
Who really knows why Brodeur is starting, will not really divulge the true reason(s) !!
Personally, I do not care why Brodeur is in, but I will say, they should have stopped the musical chair, and benched both Leclaire and Elliott a few games ago !!
Simply hope that Brodeur does not get blown out too early, gains his confidence, holds this confidence ,and wins another game for our team, who are so panicky in last 5 games !!
Robert Cyr
I hardly think that the goalies are giving a 'screw you' to the orginization for the firing of Wilson.. If anything they were confronted before and asked how they thought he was doing. But it was obvious that he wasnt capable. It sucks.. but these goalies have had many coaches, some good and some bad. I imagen they know that this is for the better. You know.. it`s their asses on the line too.
fire clouston he is an unsympathetic arrogant coach who has no clue how to motivate players(leclair, cheechoo and so on).but he is done anyway. cheers
Sportsnet.ca has article about brian murray
Nizzy
I love the sens.....but we all have to realize that the days of havlat, hossa, spezza, alphie, philips, redden era is over that was our chance to win the cup and now we are in a rebuilding stage and once we realize that then these losses are a little easier to take as long as BM is doing what he needs to in order to build for the future.
I don't think any senator should be safe that we could get value for with the exception of Kelly, Foligno, Karlsson and either Fisher or Machalek (we need to keep one of them) if we can trade Spezza, Alphie, Philips, Volchenkov to a team that is looking to win the Stanley cup for one of their young studs i say do it lets just realize our situation and start building.
wow....... pretty tough not to be negative at a moment like this.... FML!!
Anon @ 1:14,
I think you should stop posting here just like 90% of the idiots who post under anon names who nothing more post BS rumors of the players having meeting just say how much they want the coaches fired and large number retarded trade ideas.
My trade propsal makes sense for the following reasons.
1. Both Lee and Cogliano have failed to live up to high draft status.
2. O'Brien isn't a bust since he hasn't had a chance to prove himself at the NHL level like Lee and Cogliano have.
3. Both O'Brien and Motin are prospects that may not see NHL time with their clubs Edmonton is in deep with D-man and D prospects. While Ottawa has a good number of propsects and players in the Centre postion.
4. The 2nd rounder even it's San Jose's is still worth two draft picks (4th and a 5th).
5. The conditional pick is based the performance of O'Brien. It could be as a high as a 3rd rounder in a future draft if he does well in Edmonton. Or as low as 7th rounder in a future draft if O'Brien plays poorly.
I think you are the one that is retarded or skitso.
Robert Cyr, stop the panic and bench them both, isn't that panic? Name one other NHL franchise ever that has done that.
Stop building goalies up to be saviours and you won't get let down so easy. We had inferior goalies here for years like Lalime, Prusek, Tugger, Rhodes who looked like stars because we had the envy of the NHL on the blue line. Brian Pothier was a healthy scratch at number 8 we were so deep and the guy was arguable top 4anywhere else. A goalie is only as good as the guys in front of him ask Brodeur in Jersey who got himself the most wins in history by facing a league low shots every year and when you have that kind of swagger you are ready when you do need to make the big ones. Once you guys figure out it's a team effort you'll get off the ledge.
GO SENS GO!!!!
We Like Mike!
Oh, an article on sportsnet about Bryan Murray, by Jim Kelley, possibly the most pompous Leafs fan cloaked as an impartial reporter in the history of the world. I predict 20-30 backhanded insults to the Sens as a whole and 10-20 shots at the City itself in this article.
Anon 2:15
Fire Clouston? Dont think Clous is really the issue here. We're missing our top line!!!! Plus this team was never expected to make the playoffs. I think they are doing pretty damn good considering. We're in a funk right now but which team wouldnt be with their top line on the shelf.
TRock
So who is our back-up, back-up, back-up? lol
GO SENS GO!
@anon 2:52
Well said.
lines should be:
Foligno-Fisher-Kovalev
Shannon-Regin-Cheechoo
Ruutu-Kelly Neil
Daugavins-Smith-Donovan
For those of you hating on Brodeur, I remember hearing the exact same comments last year....replace 'Brodeur' with 'Elliott' and "Leclaire/Elliott" with "Gerber/Auld". Elliott at that point had played all of ONE NHL game too.
Who knows? Maybe he comes in and gives the team a spark like Elliott did last year.
That Kelley article amounts to a bunch of crap - nothing informative at all - just a bunch of "I told you so" remarks (with zero proof that he actually told anyone).
What a jackass.
I think it would be easier for the senators fan to accept another loss if we put Mike Brodeur in net. That way we can use him as an excuse, and if we win we can play him again until he fails.
Smart coaching move if you think about it. Clouston isnt so bad as people make him out to be.
Go Sens Go!!

To anon at 2;52 PM,
I have never seen what we are experiencing, in over 50 years of NHL hockey ! We have 5 regular top notch players out with injuries!
That's 25% of a team, representing 50% of our offense !
My choice was not a panic choice, it was to have our #1 and #2 goalies refocus, get their mental game back, and regain the lost confidence !!
Tonite is an important game, we either continue down in standings, or regain team confidence ,with a goalie that played 1 great game against the Wild !!
So, that's why I made the statement on sitting our 2 goaltenders ! With Brodeur,we have nothing to lose, since we are losing with our regular goalies in last 5 games !!
GO BRODEUR GO !!
Robert Cyr
Anon 3:19
I'd switch out Neil with Daugavins and give Daugivins 1st unit PP time. This kid is not a 4th liner so you're wasting your time and his having him down there. Too bad Clouston agrees with you on him.
What a cluster f*** this has turned out to be! Mind you if you can enjoy the anarchy of Sens fans trying to throw themselves from the Peace Tower, screaming "Drop kick me Alfie through the gates of heaven!", there IS some amusement value.
People need to chill. It's just hockey - enjoy what you can; forget the bad. Right now Melnyk should be the one who is agitated. The team looks like it's imploding like they did two seasons ago and are in jeopardy of falling out of the playoff picture which is going to cost Melnyk some $$ and he hasn't got his "Stanley Cup Discount" to boast about any more.
My beef is that I've been saying since the Sens lost in the finals that it was time to start rebuilding and aside from some solid looking, but not stellar, draft picks we're worse off now than we were two seasons ago. This team isn't going to challenge for the Cup even when healthy; I guarantee you that! No way they mow through Pitts / Caps / or NJ on the way to facing the Hawks or Sharks in the finals. I'm a little concerned that Murray seems to be more concerned with making the playoffs this year (and saving his job perhaps?) than fulfilling Eugene's committment to bring the Cup to Ottawa.
It's time to accept that the core of this team has had a good run, but we've hemmorhaged talent over the past couple of years and now it's time to be sellers at the deadline and aim for a two-year rebuild.
As much as I love Fisher - he could probably net us Ellis and a pick or prospect from Nashville.
Alfie deserves another shot at the cup; be it with Ott or with another team and should be given the option if he doesn't want to wait for the rebuild.
Volch could net us a solid pick / prospect combo.
Spezza is young enough and talented enough that we should hold on to him unless a HUGE offer is made.
If we're lucky some team might be prepared to take a chance on Kovalev to make a run at the cup.
Sometimes you just have to accept the hard times to get back to the good times. It worked pretty well for Pitts and Colorado (so far).
Just my $0.02
Go sens go!
PS: Mike Brodeur is *not* the Messiah, here to lead us to the promised land of Lord Stanley's Cup. But that's ok, too. Hopefully he has a solid outing if he plays tonight. It's kind of a feel-good story.
Jim
To anon 3;31,
Clouston should have nmade that move 5 games ago, instead of playing musical chair with our 2 goalies !
He pulled Leclaire out in Philly game when we were still ahead 4-3 !
Big mistake taking ou your #1 goalie at that juncture in the game.
Down 3-1 a few games ago, he pulls Leclaire out again, after 1st period !
Another big mistake !
Hope Clouston has learned to have faith in his # 1 goalie , when all this indecision stops !
Martin Brodeur has never been pulled like a yo yo ,ever.
Robert Cyr
That Sportsnet article about Bryan Murray is bang on.
Murray has responsibility for the team's performance. When will he be held accountable?
Enough is enough.
We really are starting to look like a basket case of an organization. No top notch UFA will sign here under the current management team.
Fire Murray.
Who's the idiot that thinks Daugavins is anything special? Probably the same guy that thinks that Brodeur is a decent goalie.
Robert Cyr...Martin Brodeur has never been as inconsistent as Leclaire either. How can you even begin to make any type of comparison between Brodeur and Leclaire? I do agree with picking a guy and going with him but Buddy, you gotta relax!
right on 3:55 pm
Enough is Enough, http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2010/01/14/kelley_blame_game/
we should all stay away from home games it the only way to get Murray fired
No, we shouldn't. Staying away from home games will cost us our team here in Ottawa.
Don't think anybody wants that. That article really doesn't make much of a case if you ask me.
Quote from the article "And for the record, doesn't anyone think it strange that the Columbus Blue Jackets let Leclaire go in favour of Steve Mason? At the time that deal went down, Mason was nothing more than a prospect and the Blue Jackets were desperate to finally make it to the postseason. That's the kind of warning flag a lot of GMs would take under consideration."
What a pile of crap that is, Mason had like 8 shut outs, and Leclaire was gone for the season, so they get a great asset for Vermette and we get a very likely #1 goalie, Kelley is just a typical Leafs fan who distorts the past to make other teams look worse and his team better by doing so.
true sens chrip I do hate what Murray did to this team but I would hate to see them leave, what would we bitch about. I moved here from Montreal, and now a sens fan yes I jumped ship. I just miss what this team was and this city.
To Marcer,
In no way was I insisting that Leclaire was even close to the incomparable Marty Brodeur !!
I was simply suggesting that Leclaire NEEDS to play a lot of games to get his groove, as does Marty, who plays, and plays, and
never gets yanked, even if he loses 3 in a row, which is almost never.
Coach Clouston did not have faith in either of our #1 and #2 , and kept pulling them back and forth !!
Leclaire should play 70% and Elliott 30% of the games !!
Not surprised that he goes with Mike Brodeur, and he should have done it 5 games ago , before this bloodbath started !!
Enough posting for today !!

SC any chance that there is more to this than injury - like Leclaire taking the news of Eli Wilson's firing badly?
Just the conspiracy theorist in me wanting to know if I should don my tinfoil hat...
Jim
Chirp,
Staying away will not cost us our team. Melnyk will fire Murray way before deciding to move the team.
Think about it. You need league approval to relocate. Can you imagine Melnyk going to the league and saying he wants to move the team because no one is going to the games.
His fellow governors will look at him like he's an idiot. They'll tell him straight up that the Ottawa market has shown itself to be a good market. They'll tell him to straighten out the team by firing the GM.
We can speed up the process by staying away from Scotiabank Place.
Really don't think so Jim.
Just a fragile goalie getting hurt again it seems.
It is official though, Mike Brodeur will get the start tonight.
OK,
So, SensChirp, I have 1 more post or comment, who will be the backup to Mike Brodeur ??
Robert Cyr
Brian Elliott, I reckon.
so right chirp, that article blows.
With respect to Clouston's quick hook lately - I wonder if there's more going on. i.e. is Leclaire still not 100% or is Murray putting too much pressure or something? On the face of it, I'd absolutely want to let Leclaire just play 5-6 straight games or more and work things out rather than keep pulling him (or Elliott). But if he's still not 100% physically or mentally then that might explain it somewhat.
His tirade against the media leads me to wonder if he's just particularly fragile right now. Going from Columbus to Ottawa is quite a change in attention/pressure - especially with the expectations we all had. I'm hoping that its just an adjustment that he needs to make and CAN make - because if not we're in big trouble.
And yeah, to the idiot that wants to empty out SBP until Murray is fired - you are clearly a leaf troll so please get lost. Come to think of it, I'd love if those douchebag leaf fans would STOP going to SBP to simply cheer against the Sens. I'm getting tired of "accidentally" spilling my beer on their seats when they go the concourse.
Sorry to bother you Chirp. Any Chance of a Cover it Live or Live blog tonight?
Yeah Elliott is backing up, he's got the flu, but he'll be sitting on the bench...... bad choice, they should keep him away from the team
Do you think this the whole goalie think is a farce and LeClaire is not really hurt just benched, and they had to say someone was hurt to bring up Brodeur? I heard Ian Mendes on the radio and he said some are thinking, but he doesn't it.
Chirp,
do we know the extent of leclaire's injury yet? what happened like i know it happened during practice on a shot but where did he get hurt?
just wondering as i hope it aint serious and wont be long-term...
Sorry Engin, no live blog tonight.
Still no update on the injury suffered by Leclaire. I would be absolutely shocked if this was a "benching" and the injury was a cover for that.
Completely shocked.
Faking an injury to bench a struggling goalie sounds pretty bush league to me and I hope that is not the case.
Hope they can pull something off tonight get it to ot atleast.
Wonder why they wouldn't call up Lehner on an emergency basis if Elliott has the flu. Surely Lehner can't be any worse than a guy who is sitting on the bench puking all game.
Might be good for Lehner, too.
Jim

LIAM
Wasn't he wearing a helmet?
Any idea why Spezza and Alfie weren't put on the LTIR? Does LTIR not remove the cap hit for the player's salary over the period that the player is injured or does it only allow the team to exceed the cap for the period the player is on LTI?
Jim
@Liam
I find sportsnet to offer the the most positive coverage of the Senators. Compared to CBC or TSN, Sportsnet are practically Sparta-philes.
Is this a bad joke? Has Leclaire played a whole month without one injury? I had big expectations for him at the end of last year. I thought that after Lalime and Gerber it could not get any worse but now I'm not too sure what to think of Leclaire. Experts said that he could be one of the top 10 best goalies when healthy but now from what I understand he plays a solid game out of 2 games then gets hurt for a few games. Then he comes back and needs a few games to readjust which resulted in more losses and when he lets a few too many soft goals Clouston changes goalie in the middle of a game. I doubt that Leclaire is truly injured but maybe needs to rest a little and it's easier to say that he's hurst to the media than to say he's not feeling too good mentally.
Have a good game and I say 5-3 Ottawa. Don't shoot me for being hopeful!
Good point Anon 4:50: Unless that's the strategy and the Sens want to try having the whole team on IR...
I think having Brodeur in net makes a ton of sense. He's been removed from the locker room so he shouldn't be depressed about his performance, or the team's performance going in. That to me is an opportunity to spark the confidence that has completely dissolved in the last week or so.
Putting a fresh goalie is also a great way of assessing how our D is contributing to the crap goaltending through screens, poor positioning, by tipping shots into dangerous areas or having difficulty clearing the zone.
Let's be clear here, it's not all the goalies fault. We have been worse than shit in our own zone lately and this will be a good way to have an objective perspective on our D.
Murray did not ruin this team. Sure he made a mistake with coaches and some of his trades are not the greatest.. but neither were Muckler's. Name me one trade of Muckler's that was good. This team and it's farm system was ruined by John Muckler.. period..
Muckler chose Redden over Chara-- traded Havlat for nothing.. traded all the good prospects for a chance at the cup. That is why the Sens are suffering NOW. The players that would be called up now to fill in the voids would have been draft picks of John Muckler (2+ years ago) Murray's draft picks are only 18 or 19 years old and not pros yet (except Karlsson and a few others). When Murray came in, there were NO prospects other than Foligno, Lee & O'Brien.. that's it.
As for Mike Brodeur -- he has been in the AHL for a long time.. why?? He is an AHL goalie. Sure he played well in the one game he played.. but I believe at that time, we had a healthly line up.
Also you can't just call him up because the goalies are playing badly -- he would have to clear waivers -- would he make it? Who knows. He can be called up on emergency situation due to injury without going through waivers.
Tonight.. I believe the Sens have about 10 experienced players in the lineup tonight - the rest are 2 year players, rookies or callups. It is going to be almost impossible to win against a fully HEALTHY Ranger lineup and one of the best goalies in hockey...
Murray said that to put a player on LTIR they would have to miss 30 games + -- They figure Spezza would miss 31 and Alfie less than that.. so it was not worth it.
Also Mike Brodeur was pulled from goal in Bingo the first game he played after being sent down.
It's funny how Jim Kelley says that Murray is a master deflector.
Meanwhile I don't think he's written an article on Blue Team all season... talk about sticking your head in the sand.
I don't really care about Bingo, no one in our city does but you. Muclers team came close
Okay - I'm a big Carkner fan but dude ... you can't fight Donald "I don't need a stick cuz I can't play hockey" Brashear TWICE! That's 10 minutes where we need Carkner available that Brashear would be on the bench anyway.
C'mon man!
On Campoli: I really think his time spent on the fourth line helped him. I know he hated it (and rightly so) but he seems much more comfortable joining the rush since then. Maybe it's just me or maybe it's unrelated, but that's what I see.
Jim Kelley has a real thing about Murray. He is buddies with Muckler down there in Buffalo, and often writes about Murray pushing Muckler out and how cruel it was that Muckler got fired. He takes any chance to take a shot at Murray, I've seen it countless times.
I hate to say it, but brodeur looks GREAT!
Brodeur shutout!!!
