(UPDATE 4:46 PM)- The Ottawa Senators returned forward Ryan Keller to Binghamton this afternoon. Looks like Nick Foligno will return tomorrow against the Avalanche.
The Senators were back on the ice this morning in preparation for tomorrow's game with the surprising Colorado Avalanche.
Here were the lines at practice this morning...
Michalek-Fisher-Neil
Kovalev-Regin-Shannon
Keller-Kelly-Cheechoo
Foligno-Winchester-Donovan
Jarkko Ruutu did not skate today. The combinations lead me to believe that there's a chance Nick Foligno will be back in the line up tomorrow night, with Ryan Keller coming out. There is no official update on Foligno yet this morning.
On the injury front, the Senators remain hopeful that Daniel Alfredsson could be out for less than the full six weeks originally reported, although it's really too early in the rehab process to know for sure.
Alfie is known for his remarkable recoveries so an early return wouldn't surprise me in the least.
The thinking on Spezza is that he will return after the Olympic break in February.
Nick Foligno's name came up in a rumour sent my way this morning. Word is a couple Western Conference teams may have inquired about Foligno. Reality is the Senators are in no position to be trading forward depth right now so this doesn't make any sense.

Um.. Foligno, along with Fisher, Alfie, Spezza, Neil, Phillips and Volchenkov, I do not want to see leave this team!
Be smart...er Murray!
Just because a team likes Foligno, doesn't mean Murray would consider moving him.
Teams inquire about players all the time.
Is the rumor mill regarding kelly pretty much dead now? He's the only guy I see no reason in keeping on this team. At least picard blocked a few shots last night...
That said, if picard and campoli end up being moved, I'll be a happy camper.
Foligno goes to the net and was one of the best Sens in their last playoff series vs Pittsburgh. I would not trade him!
Not foligno. He's a great prospect and very good player right now. He can't go and I think Murray would be smart enough to keep him unless a great trade offer comes up.
Awesome game last night!!!
Go Sens Go!
Chirp,
Am I crazy or did I see that the sens are holding an open practise tomorrow?
Please let me know as I don't want to walk the 1km to the bank in this friggid weather for no reason.
cheers,
Bic
Depends on the return...
I thought Fisher did a great job in the faceoff circle when he was switched to Kovalev's line. I would like to see Kovalev-Fisher-Neil again. Shannon-Regin-Michalek would be a really fast line.
Clouston vs Sacco
Early Jack Adams favorites battle?
Both team were written off by pundits as bottom feeders in pre-season predictions.
I think for Clouston to get consideration for the Jack Adams he'd almost have to get the Sens to win the division. Sacco absolutely has to be the early favourite. If not then I've lost all faith in the process.
If a team is interested in Foligno and is willing to part with a bonafide top 6 guy, why not trade him? What's the harm if we'd be getting back another legit top 6 guy?
Any word on what was being offered? Or what teams were calling?
Any news on Lee or Kartsson ?
Foligno + for a upgrade to the top 6 ala Patrick Sharp wouid make sense when ever Chicago decides to have there fire sale end of the season I would assume.
no trades right now. please and thank you. i like the hockey these guys are playing right now. and the team has this good underdog feel to it with spezza and alfie out.
i want kovalev to seize the opportunity and take hold of this team while the captain is out. he is the only guy on the roster who can do it in this situation. except that, he needs to DO it.
Mathieu Schneider placed on waivers. Maybe Ottawa needs to call Vancouver if/when he clears and ask them to put him on re-entry.
We need a PP QB because clearly Kuba has fallen off.
What is the rumour and or rumours?
Anon 1:08
Chicago will be looking to dump salary (and not take salary back), so the Sens with +/- 2M to play with are not a good trading partner for the Hawks.
Sharp makes 3.9M. That definitely does not fit in the Sens salary cap, especially if Volchie is to be signed.

I couldn't agree more with the "Eh-oh-Canada-Go" comment, it really is one the worst things I have ever heard. I would never chant that in a million years.
matthew:
yes there is an open practice on the 30th
since when did fisher and regin switch? or was it always like that?
I went to my first home game in 6 years last night (I live in Vancouver). That game was awesome. I was pounding the glass in the corner in the Sens end all game.
We are raising a lot of eyebrows Sens fans. This team has the kind of character that perhaps has been missing in the past. Think about where the pundits predicted we'd be WITH Spezza and Alfie....and how we are shpwing such great tenacity through adversity.
This is an easy team to love right now. I couldn't be happier going back to Vancouver tomorrow. I am So proud to be a Sens fan right now.
Go Sens.
Not chicago.... Why trade and get 1 player when you can trade cheap for cheap....I hope its phx i wouldnt mind Lombardi..1.8... Upshall..1.5 or Mueller..1.7 all very cheap and young ..
Awesome comment Mike McC... Although probably not the case, I'd like to believe you came out here JUST for the game
@ Gorley
Are you kidding me, apart from Alfie, Fisher and Neil and maybe Spezza, I would trade the rest if good value was given!
Especially Volchenkov, Phillips, Foligno. We need better D and if a trade would come up and offer us good proven D, I woul do it. Both Volchenkov and Phillips are on the decline, they dont score and they are a liability back there now, everygame several mistakes are made by that pair. Volchenkov has the edge in value cuz he hits and block shots but Phillips does nothing.

@Anon 2:50pm,
I heard somewhere that Mueller is up for grabs. Apparently he was offered to the Rangers. Foligno for Mueller would be fair. I would rather give Foligno a chance to play before we go trading him, because he was just getting his groove on.
Is karlsson sitting because we are showcasing campoli, who could be part of a package for a dman? Kelly and campoli for hamhuis!!!
Hey Chirp what is your opinion on Karlsson in the press box?
@ MikeMcC
I love your enthusiasm but do you not see the glaring holes on defense?
Do you not get frustrated with the dozens of brain cramps we get on the back end? Costing us games?
I said this team would finish 6th to 8th but without our top guys healthy, which I hope they will be come playoff time. I dont see us going deep with the D corp that we got presently.
SM
Do you know if Knarlsson is going to still sit this game or play?
where is karlsson?
Won't know till tomorrow Bill.
I felt like Campoli had a solid game last night though so I wouldn't be surprised to see the same line up.
It's starting to look more and more like sending Karlsson to the World Juniors would have made the most sense.
Anything new on the Sens and Preds trading front?
You have to trade talent to get talent-If Foligno gets us a legitamite top 6 player why would you not go for it.
to chi
foligno
2nd
to ottawa
sharp
also I would love to have schneider on the PP.
I really don't know whats more gay, that ole song or the supposed eh-oh crap-embarassing.
Mike Mc: I hate to sound unsporting and it's great you got to be there for that game, but what is with the pounding on the glass thing?? I hate it, it makes the fan looks look like some kind of caged animal.....
I agree, pounding on the glass is not cool. Would be funny though if the glass broke on the fan!
Upshall would be a perfect fit in the style we are playing Mueller is only 21 and has a great upside what about ...
Lee Shannon picard 2nd
Upshall and Mueller and Michalek
Hey Chirp any chance Murray makes a move for Schneider since he is on waivers?
Memo to the Pepsi-Cola Company
------------------------------------------
Do NOT tell me how to cheer at a hockey game!
Are you serious!? Are some of you actually trying to tell some of our fans how they should and should not cheer. Perhaps you should just be happy that they are cheering.
We are not only very difficult on our team (if they lose the next game people will probably go back to saying the sky is falling) but it seems we are difficult on our own fans. It seems like we always have to complain about something. Let the fans cheer as they see fit.
kgv
kgv, I hate it when any fan of any hockey team pounds on the glass, whether they be leaf fans or sens fans or any fans. It's embarassing, in fact I refer to them as monkey people, as that's what they look like to me.
But I'm sure they will carry on.
I think pounding on the glass is fair game.. Those people pay a ton for those seats... let them beat the glass to generate some excitement.
We need more things like that where fans can hit something to make noise...
Pounding the glass is all good. How often do you sit in front of the glass anyway. If you're pounding it, probably not often
Nothing wrong with showing emotion by pounding on the glass. However, I find the sound irritating as hell.
As far as trading foligno, it'll depend on how much of a raise he wants this summer. I'm not a scout or anything but I would estimate his career potential as a very good third liner. Ottawa has an abundance of those so if he were traded for a veritable top 6 forward, that would be a good trade. Ottawa needs someone with decent hands with a lot of speed or a D-man with a canon for a shot.
I don't understand why anyone wants to trade Foligno... It's only his fourth year, and could turn into a kickass power forward in years to come. I think trading him would be seriously regretable down the road.
wow. cant blv people over here are ripping a guy for cheering a team we all like by banging the glass.
its understandable if you rip a fan of another team. but a fan of your own team?.
imma real happy for all of you and imma let you all finish. but FANS WHO BANG THE GLASS FOR THEIR TEAM ARE THE BEST FANS EVER!!
just sayin.
But ARE they generating excitement by pounding on the glass? Others around them obviously find the sound annoying, and to me they look like they're trying to draw attention to themselves, not the team: they are in fact distracting the team. But then I helped get some poor sod bounced a few years ago, who was pounding on the glass and yelling at Bonk that he made too much money, so I've never seen the pounding as a supportive fan soumd. I just see it as disruptive and self abdorbed. But power to the monkey people.
I really can't believe people are arguing about pounding on the glass.
I find little kids screaming at the top of their lungs for 5 minutes straight annoying but I don't bitch about it. I know they're having fun so let them be.
Seriously, is there nothing better to discuss?
It's not annoying if a fan bangs the glass after a big play or a goal and gets excited or whatever. That's fine.
It's the annoying moron who pounds the glass every 10 seconds for no discernible reason that gets annoying. At that point they detract from the enjoyment of the game for other fans. Same as the person who gets up from their seat 20+ times in a game lol.
And to clarify. I mean get up and leave the area to get food/go to the washroom or w/e during play. Not getting up to cheer about something that's happened in the play. In that situation if you're the person behind and you have a problem you should just stand up yourself and get excited too haha.
Hey guys
Just letting you know...
D-man Schneider is a Free Agent now..
Just thought id throw that out there..*cough*..Murray, did you hear that? K, good.
@ Anon 4:36,
"Lee Shannon picard 2nd
Upshall and Mueller and Michalek"
you've proposed that we trade a D prospect who has yet to live up to his potential, a tiny complimentary forward, and a giveaway machine for one legit second liner and two highly regarded young players. The second rounder doesnt compensate im afraid. Unless Mike Milbury gets hired as Phx GM, its not happening.
Schnieder would be nice, i think he's only signed for a year, at a bargain basement rate if it was off re-entry. Not positive though.
I probrably wouldn't pound on the glass myself, however, i welcome anything that generates more noise in that church they call Scotiabank place.
Too many people thinking its "embarrassing" to cheer loudly for their team.
Probrably the same people who refer to glass bangers as "monkey people" and that leave a tie game half way through the 3rd to beat traffic.
LAME
Everyone stay tuned at 12pm Est. Announcement of the Olympic Canadian team!
@ HarvardYaleAndPrincetonMan
Or what? you wont come to games anymore?
They'll just find some other guy to replace ya.
I think we as Sens fans need to wear more face paint, you know, to support the team.
I say we get a bunch of Senschirp regulars together who are going to tonight's game and each paint a letter onto our stomachs that spell out.
S-E-N-S-C-H-I-R-P-O-W-N-S
Who's with me!?!
You pay your $200.00 you cheer however you want. Only thing that annoys me is when the Habs fans refuse to take off their hats for O Canada. In my humble opinion that is grounds for removal from the stadium.
Makes sense if the price is a very high draft pick or a blue chip forward who is not quite ready.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fowd29dOyh0
Foligno an a first for Andrew Ladd. Perfect deal for both teams. Book it.
wow , lol this buildings been dead most of the year and now we are bitching at fans who are excited?? here how bout this , if it annoys you so much , stay the fuck at home, and watch it in complete silence!!!!!
RETARDS!
Who the hell wants Schneider... He's old, and he's not actually playing right now because of "personal reasons"... And to the Idiot who said we should trade Volchenkov & Phillips...WTF!! Have you ever seen a playoff game???
@ Anon 11:44am
Yeah stupid, have you seen our playoff record with them....
Not so great is it moron!
We need D that can actually stop people and score goals on the PP, none of the two can do that now.
HA HA...it's hard to contain my enthusiasm when it's been so long since I'd been in SBP. Banging on the glass was the best noise maker to drown out the Habs fans. On top of that, I had never sat on the glass before, and I couldn't help myself. I have to admit, I'm a bit of a rabid fan!!
As for the defense, yes, it is a bit lacking at times, but very young, very talented D-men are in our system. Furthermore, we've got A-Bomb (What I call the A-train), and 'Lips playing like champs. We've also got Kuba struggling a little bit, but he'll come around. As for Carkner, he has defensive lapses, but he more than makes up for it in his grit and physical presence...which translates into Neiler focusing more on playing a better game, which is clearly obvious so far this season.
Big game tonight. I'd rather be back in Scotia Bank Place, but my comfy couch, in relatively mild Vancouver, and Center Ice with Stereo sound will have to do.
Enjoy the game Sens Fans.
Woah! I just read all of the comments regarding the noise making/glass pounding. In all fairness, I was really excited, but I can see how it must bother some people. To me, it's hockey, not golf, and the best games to watch are the loud ones, with lots of passion and I just really wanted to drown out the Habs fans. Again, it was my first time ever on the glass as well. I am sorry if it bothers anyone, and that's the truth, I just couldn't contain my excitement. I DO think it's a fair topic to discuss though, because frankly, SBP can be a little too quiet at times, and we shold find a way to get some chants, or noise making, or some sort of common themed song or whatnot that is originally Senatorial.
Maybe switch it up from time to time from "Go Sens Go"...to "Let's Go Sen-a-tors, Let's GO" (*clap, clap) Any ideas?
well it would make sense to trade Foligno, we are NOT cup contenders, far from even close, so may as well get something for him. I say call it a season and trade what we can.
