Home Sweet Home

(UPDATE 12:48 PM)- Interesting little deal made by the Columbus Blue Jackets. They have acquired former Senator Brendan Bell from the St. Louis Blues. Guess this means they won't be making a play for Brian Lee anytime soon.

The Ottawa Senators return home to the friendly confines of Scotiabank Place after a gruelling West Coast road trip. It's a huge divisional match up tonight as the Senators host the rival Montreal Canadiens.

The Habs have won back to back games and are coming off a win on home ice last night over the Philadelphia Flyers. The first game back after a long road trip is traditionally a tough one so a good start could do a long way tonight against the Canadiens, especially if you consider they played last night.

Ottawa currently sits 7th in the Eastern Conference with the Canadiens and a whole host of other teams nipping at their heels. The Senators sit just two points clear of Montreal so obviously a win tonight would be huge.

The Sens will go with the same line up from their shootout win over the Ducks on Sunday night. Here are the lines for this one...

Michalek-Fisher-Alfredsson
Foligno-Spezza-Kovalev
Ruutu-Kelly-Cheechoo
Regin-Winchester-Shannon

Brian Elliott will get the nod in goal once again.

Alex Picard, Chris Neil, Shean Donovan and Pascal Leclaire all remain on the shelf. Neil looks like he is about a week away from a return. Still little information on the injury to Picard but the team is still calling it day to day.

Lastly, thanks to the reader who sent me this link. A site called The Inside Man has shown another picture with three different jersey designs, including the one pictured here yesterday. Here's the picture...

Great these lines are staying put! Cant wait for the puck to drop!

So does that mean there's an entire jersey over-haul in the works? Or were we just duped into believing some concept art?

SensChirp said...

Could be either, to be honest.

The only thing I was told is that they were working on a new jersey for next season.

Very little in the way of specifics and just a rumour at this point.

I gotta say though, I love the idea of those three designs.

Chris K said...

When will Clouston give Mike Brodeur a chance? Even though Elliott is a solid backup, he hasnt really stepped it up during the road trip.
What better way to have your first NHl start, then for it to be vs the hated Habs..

Sens fans, I urge you to be loud and cheer every Sen on the ice.. lets drown out those dumb Habs fans when they start singing "ole ole ole"

Go SENS Go!!

Count me as a fan of the three designs.. not sure I like the O as it has connotations of a big zero ( insert ridicule from other fans here) however the basic designs I think are a big upgrade over our current far too cartoonish unis now. The O could grow on me.

Not sure the lineups make a huge difference as our overall effort level has been way too inconsistent. I am hoping for a significant move by Murray soon
to change they dynamics of this team.

Andrew said...

not a fan of these jersey's. As for the lines I would have liked to seen Cheechoo up there with spezz/kovie. His hard work of late deserves reward.

Mike said...

A huge four point game tonight! Im glad Elliott is back in. Those big saves he made late against the Ducks should help him get back into his groove.

He has shown he has the ability, now it's all about consistency.

Montague said...

great designs overall.

i agree with anon 11.33am though that the "O" could lead to a lot of jokes.

it would be neat to see the same design and with the same font if they wrote "OTTAWA" or "SENATORS" across the front where the "O" is now.

Anonymous said...

reading what the inside man posted, he talks about the current Sens jerseys being "cursed"... I still don't think that they can bring in completely new uniforms so soon...

but at the same time, we only started being terrible when we got the new jerseys? all the problems, everything! the old school Os from the 1900s saw a bunch of Stanley Cups, might help bring some of that luck back, inspire people in Ottawa the same way the Habs 100th inspired them to a 5-1 win!

I love the jersey's the red one looks much better in context. I assume it would be the third jersey of the bunch based on its position in the line.

Anonymous said...

Black one by far the best! Nicer than the other black one. I don't like the white one at all! Red is cool minus the helmet!

Looking forward to tonight's game!

Anonymous said...

I like the one to the right..if it had a black bucket

Harman said...

I wish they would bring back the old profile senators logo, with and updated jersey color scheme. While the picture is nice, the big "O" in the front will leave us wide open for all kinds of burns.

Anonymous said...

Has there been any update on Donovan? is it Season ending or could we see him in the new year?

Anonymous said...

who care's about the burns! you can make just as many burns about the jerseys we already have! how many cups have you won with the gladiator man? 0!!!! How many did the Os win back in the day? 10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whatever those leafs fans say, all you gotta say in return is 1967! Remember it?

Anonymous said...

Black easily.. No questions asked..

Sensfanmike said...

i love the black, but i like the gold "O' that was shown as a prototype a while ago. Either way, i really think that this would be great

those jerseys are wat hockey should be! horizontal lines, simple jerseys none of that screwing around with flying ducks or burger king men or "SENS", "BOLTS"... christ could you imagine the Canadians with a 3rd jersey that says "HABS"?

Those jerseys are perfect, but are missing the "Worlds Champion 2011" patch! awesome!

Onthebeachblogger said...

I think Clouston's on to something with that Foligno-Spezz-Kovie line........

hq said...

i like the middle jersey. just would go with a black helmet. not a fan of white helmets.

mtl is scraping by with price holding them tight. last nights game had a total of 28 shots combined for BOTH TEAMS. that is atrocious. i hope the sens run wild on these guys. here is to hoping to very less penalties for the sens and A LOT OF PENALTIES FOR MTL.

elliot better come up big because mtl will not put alot of shots, so he has to be very very sharp on the few that will come.

SC, i know you mentioned the fatigue factor, but the senators only came back from anaheim yesterday, so they will have the time-change factor against them too. but mtl should be fairly tired after working so hard for 13 SHOTS ON GOAL HAHA. wow. that is quite something. 13 shots for the whole game. YIKES.

Anonymous said...

I really don't like the idea of a complete uniform change this fast, we've only had the ones we're playing with now for like three years. I'm all for replacing the horrendous third jersey we have now with one of those designs, though.

As for the game tonight, I just have a bad feeling that I can't really explain. This game is huge for us though so hopefully I'm wrong.

If we can get Spezza to play like he did against the Ducks on Sunday and Kovalev to play like he did the last time he faced the Habs I like our chances.

hq said...

also the sens need to watch out for dirty hits on part of one gorges laraque.

Anonymous said...

wow-- i like the black and white "O" jerseys even more than the red one.

for all those folks who think the "O"/zero similarity will inspire taunts-- you could always shoot back something about the grammatical error that is the toronto maple "leafs". the "leaves" doesn't have the same ring, eh? anyway, both are cheap and petty digs, and if yr not able to take a wee bit of ribbing for yr team's jersey, you shouldn't be wearing it. or you should take hockey less seriously.

i think the "O" connection to ottawa hockey history is fantastic.
let's stop thinking like an expansion franchise.

SeanO said...

I love these uniforms! I personally like the white one the most. Don't really hate the unis we have now. I like the simplicity, but our logos look dumb. It would be so sweet if we could use the O logo and have a third jersey with the original parliament logo. That would be awesome. I want cheechoo up there with michalek and fish. Give him a few games up there, i bet he pops a couple. better yet would be spezz at centre but at least clouston is sticking with a line up that won. lets rock the habs tonight boys, need that 4 pt gap, no OT.

James D said...

i am a fat man and therefore dislike anything that has horizontal stripes or a hoop effect

Cheechoo has definitely earned some top-2 line minutes! he's such a hard worker and puts his heart into it! i'm sure he could improve playing up top!

Left and middle jerseys look awesome and I would definately shell out the clams to buy one of them if they were to come out.Not sure if the Spezza - Kovi - Foligno line is what it's cracked up to be. To be quite honest, I want to see Cheech and Spezza. Cheechoo has been working his ass off, and has been one of our best players for the past few games. I'm loving his play.

Big win needed tonight, let's hope the Sens and Elliott can pull out a much needed win against those Hab-astards.

I think it's true that we started screwing up when we changed the jerseys. They've been consistently rated among the worst in the NHL! here's a chance to have something we're not embarrassed about! a real piece of our town's heritage! the original HOCKEYTOWN!

Anonymous said...

For gawd's sake, leave Denis Cheechoo off the top line .

Anonymous said...

Poll who would rather have the vintage as opposed to the current?

HarvardYaleAndPrincetonMan said...

Any updates on Brian Lee ?

Rizzo said...

Can we drop the Denis Hamel - Cheechoo references? Cheechoo had more goals in 07-08 (23) than Hamel has in his career (19).

I'm all for giving cheechoo a chance up top. As long as we give Kovalev and Spezza some more time together.

That said, the way it stands right now, the top 3 lines have the potential to both be physical and put pucks in the net. I like it. I count 36 goals for the top line, 12 for the second (but that's going to change), and 11 for the 3rd thus far. That's not bad, as long as the 4th line can grind out a few shifts.

Anonymous said...

Kovalev to anahiem rumor on espn.. lol..

Anonymous said...

Anyone else think Bell was a way better dman for Ottawa than Campoli?

So much for those Filatov rumours too.

SensChirp said...

Yep, that should put those to bed.

I would assume Columbus did take a look at Brian Lee as an option but I really doubt Filatov was ever an option.

Anonymous said...

I love the white jersey in the middle! That would be one of the nicest jerseys in the league hands down even with the "O" in the middle. Unlike everyone else I like the "O" logo. I like all of those jerseys and think they would be alot nicer in reality. Definatly fork out the cash to buy one of those but if i had to pick id say the left and middle ones.

Anonymous said...

Do they have to put Bell on re-entry waivers to bring him up.
He was on waivers from the blues to go to the AHL at the start off the year.
Can you look at that.
someone will pick him up on re-entry if that's the case.

Anonymous said...

To actually move Foligno to 2nd line, after what transpired on road trip, does not make that much sense, even though he was on line
with Fisher and Kovalev not long ago !

Clouston should have inserted Cheechoo on LW on that Line ! He has truly picked up his game ,and should be rewarded accordingly !
If, however after 5-6 games, he does not contribute much, I would then move Foligno into that spot !!

I would hope that these line combinations would then be standard
lines, for everty game after the 5-6 game trial !!

When it comes to jerseys, the CH in the Montreal Canadiens has been the only recent jersey that they use for over 50 years. Excluding this year in celebration of their 100th Anniversary !

Why the Ottawa Senators do not do the same, in having only one jersy for all the various past and future seasons, must be due to Marketing strategy to make more money !!

Why not have a vote on past jersey designs, and adopt the most popular and stick with it !??

Like someone suggested in earlier post, just have on front, OTTAWA or SENATORS with logo of Parliament tower & clock !!

Bell signed with the blues in the offseason as a UFA and they put him on waivers. he cleared and i think if im not wrong he is playing in the KHL now. he always had a KHL offer to start with, but waited for Ottawa first and then the free agency market. yea, bell was better than campoli, however, still prone to defensive gaffes.

hey chirp,

any status updates on donovan or leclaire?

any further trade updates? i'm thinking maybe columbus made an inquiry about lee and ottawa was asking too much. seems like the rumored deals put lee at a higher value seeing as he hasn't broken the nhl and made the roster on more than a temporary basis since he was drafted. seems like he hasn't lived up to his potential so far

Hoping for a good showing tonight, I hope they are essentially playing a top 3 lines. Michalek has been great, that Spezza line looks like it could work...and Ruuto, Kelly, and Cheech will work like hell, and Ruutu has been looking great game in and game out.

Looking forward to tonight.

Hey SC and Sens Fans,

So, im pretty happy about the jersey change. Yes, the spartan grew on us, we got really used to it and some people (like me) dont like change.

However, there are a lot of good things that come with this change. The positives outweigh the the negatives. It gives the fans, the players, and the organization new hope for a better future. These young guys like Karlsson, Cowan, Winchester & Foligno will be the pioneers of a new era. They will be part of this new legacy in Ottawa, and it will give them a sense of belonging and motivation to reach their full potential for the franchise that loves them.

For the veterans like Alfie, Spezza and Fisher, it will give them much more to strive for. They will have to prove that they (yes, Alfie too) can be TRUE leaders. This will test their character and how they handle the change and the opportunity presented to them.

It is up to us as fans to be loyal to our team. Lets get through this together guys, lets show Ottawa and the rest of the NHL how big the sens army really is. They fought for us, they took us to the finals and most of us are very ungrateful. Be loud guys, make noise for them. They cant do it alone, we have to do our part EVERY game. Get loud guys! go sens go isnt good enough. Go Sens Go! LOUDER! GO SENS GO!!! GO SENS GO!!! GO SENS GO!!! BRING ON THE NEW JERSEYS!!!

Bell is currently in the minors and is being sent to the Syracuse Crunch. If Columbus calls him up, he would have to clear re-entry waivers. I would suspect that he would get picked up by some other team (especially at $350K pro-rated) as a 7th d-man.

Bell doesn't solve Columbus' need on the blueline.

LOVE THOSE JERSEYS! We'd have the classiest jerseys in the league!

Anonymous said...

I really don't like that our current jerseys are a generic template. There is absolutely no substance to them- they basically slapped Ottawa's colours onto a random pre-set template and then added a logo to the front. No thought needed whatsoever.

What we need is to go back to a successful, non-templated jersey that actual reflects the city of Ottawa- either a barber-pole striped uniform, or the original black-and-red away jersey.

That said, the black and white jerseys in the set from The Inside Man isn't bad, but I'd like to see the yoke piping disappear, and see white stripes added under the red sleeve stripes on the white jersey (so it actually matches). And I stand by what I said in the previous thread, I don't like that red jersey- it's an eyesore. With no yoke and no hem stripes, it'd be fine, but as it stands, it's just a brightly-coloured mess.

Why is everyone so self-concious that they care what lowly laugh fans would say...who cares, they will be obnoxoius no matter what, its their birth-right. I love the retro logo...it is a very nice nostalgic tie back to the early days. As for the colour combos the one on the left is much more like it - that one would be a mega seller....the red one not so much.

Looking forward to giving a beat down to les Canadiens tonight! (hopefully there is an on-line stream somewhere)

I really don't understand why people are making statements like, to quote SM, "(we) need to make a move at the deadline to bolster up that D if we have any intentions of going deep into the playoffs".

It's quite funny that most people are saying we are only going to make the first round, and that's if we're lucky. That's not my perspective, as you well know, I think any team has an outside chance of winning the cup every year, just by virtue of playing in the NHL. Realistically though, we are a long shot at winning the cup, but anything is possible and I'm not going to lose faith over a few loses. That being said, I'm very curious as to the opinions of some of you. There are a lot of suggestions flying around as to who we should acquire, with many people saying we should trade prospects.

Here is my question. Would you rather trade away our future so we can have a quick fix who will maybe help us win the first round, but not go much further, or would you rather have a young core of good players who will make us strong for years to come.

Another too many men penalty at a crucial junction of the game.. fucking amatuer hour behind the bench needs to end.

Anonymous said...

Wow, not much to say except for the fact that Ottawas PP is beyond predictable and late in the 3rd they are applying A TON of pressure and sure enough, "ol'reliable Clouston" lets his team take ANOTHER too many men penalty - WELL DONE!

Spezza is probably the most predictable on the PP as well - sits down low and tries the same dumbass cross crease pass which maybe works 1% of the time. They dont get enough point shots from the middle, all there point shots come from the walls - which is easy to defend.

Aside from that, unlucky breaks followed up by lucky play in nets by Halak.

Anonymous said...

My diagnosis from tonight's game... we need a big shot from the point on the PP.

It seemed obvious that the Habs were willing to cede the point and collapse down low and clog up the shooting lanes. With a big shot, I think things would have been much more open.

Anonymous said...

wow just a terrible game.. as if we lost that. trade kuba, spezza and volche and we will have a better team

I am so dissapointed in my team...

Bench them both

SensChirp said...

Haha bench two of the more skilled players! That will make them win!

Anonymous said...

Why not?
Maybe it creates a slap in the face effect, the team gets the message and wins a game.

Then maybe Spezza and Kovy realize they aren't guaranteed their ice time and work it out there.

Those "skill players" aren't "playing"...

tim thomas is right about the lighting at SBP, it's too good. No wonder it's his favourite NHL rink and has a brilliant record against us. Dim the lights a bit and maybe we won't see visiting goaltenders stealing games time to time at the Bank, just like what happened tonight.

Anonymous said...

Whats with the rediculous amount of passing on the PP? Isnt there anyone who can shoot from the point? Yeah we gave it all we had but that obviously isnt enough. Im really at a loss at whats the remedy to their issues...is it Spezza's passing or Kovy's lacklustre play or is it our AHL calibre Blueline??? So frustrating. This is getting to the point where watching Sens games is painful.! And contrary to a lot of peoples opinions, i think that Elliot is playing well...we can blame our D for many of the goals scored against him...just my 2 cents. Go Sens Go

Although I totally dont disagree with your sarcasm, the point is the team has been winning without these 2.....no one is saying sit them for an extended period, but bench them for a game...its not like they are bringing anything consistant and it would send a message to them and to the rest of the team...

Anonymous said...

@anon 10:42

Was a bad game yes...but your trade requests= epic fail...that is all

Anonymous said...

The Sens aren't going to get rid of their centurion design. Brand recognition is very important and tweaking it is one thing, but going with the 'O' exclusively doesn't make sense after 17 years or so with the Roman theme Ottawa chose.

What would make sense is if the Senators got an outdoor game game, and wore the old school 'O' jerseys as a one time affair.

Anyway, I liked Bell when he was here and would take him over Campoli.

Anonymous said...

just blame the team...what we need is a number one defenceman, and a shooter on the top six....as well as our starting goalie back would help too...no need to trade volchie and spezza and kuba because of a rough stretch of games. did u think we were gonna win the cup this year? aim for the playoffs, if not this is another good draft year, we could pick up a solid top sixer. think long term people...it is what wins cups not brash decisions based on a few games or a quarter season

Nick said...

Well on a positive note I think Campoli and Karlsson were the two better D tonight. Kuba continues to look unfocused, Philips made a terrible terrible decision on that first goal... He was already beat by Plekanec who was already staking up-ice, he got caught out of position and the bounce off the ref was unlucky. Volch played his game while Carkner was pretty invisible tonight.

Nothing going on offense again, we really need somebody to just step up and put them in, we play the perimeter and behind the net really well but getting back to the front and getting some quality shots just is not happening.

To MTL's credit they had a great defensive game, maybe because of our lack of threat in their zone, and Halak once again owns us, thats gotta change if we play them 6 more times.

very frustrating loss. Another wake up call for some players.

BobbyJones said...

Season is more than a third over so Spezza is on pace to finish the campaign with 8 or 9 goals. That's almost a million/goal! From now on we'll just call him Jason Cheechoo.
He will never be the player he was, he has NO speed, and by that I mean "quickness". Today's game is all about transition and he is just to big and slow and can't adapt. The game is played North/
South, NOT east/west. I am so tired of seeing our defence get the puck and watching Jason Cheechoo loop around BEHIND them trying to pick up speed going down the right wing looking back for a pass. What he doesn't realize is that by the time he gets to centre ice they've already had to make a pass to one of the other unlucky forwards stuck playing with this toolshed!
Did anyone else notice the look of relief on Alfie's face? He was smiling ear to ear knowing he didn't have to carry that extra 205lbs of dead weight on his back.
Like I said before, I could care less about his play/stats if he we're being paid $2M/year but he is being paid the same money as all the other superstar centres in the league and he is given more first line and PP minutes than anyone else on the team so it's time to bench him because they've tried everything else to wake him up.

Anonymous said...

wow. dont know where to start.

1. 0-7 on the PP. just WOW. not to mention, mtl was short a defenseman.

2. which leads me to the LA game. hey guys remember how everyone was saying we were running a short bench thats why we lost. um lets compare, mtl loses a defenseman, is playing back to back, is not playing to win from what i saw, and they manage to win a game. yea, those are the kinds of things which make you really think how good the sens really are. AHEM.

3. WTF is wrong with that fucking PP again :s. mtl was playing the box, they were collapsing and sacrificing their bodies. so, the smart thing to do would be to not look for fancy cross crease plays. move the puck MORE. and FUCK GET SHOTS THROUGH to the NET TO START THE FUCKING PP. NOT WHEN IT IS FUCKING OVER.

4. its just shameful losing to the habs right now its just atrocious. those habs PLAYED TO fuCKING LOSE and yet we handed them a gift wrapped win.

5. still hard to blv. the habs only had 26 shots for the whole game.

6. what can i say about clouston. not a game goes he cant avoid a too-many-men penalty. way to take it when ur just a goal down. just perfect. thats called helping your own team TO LOSE THE GAME.

7. Spezza fucking needs to get serious.

8. why the hell are we giving kovalev 5 million again. he cant even show up against his former team. huh.

9. elliot officially craps. well atleast right now he is crapping. big time.

these guys never fail to surprise. after watching the anaheim win, i thought this team had its confidence back. but man they played like the stupid leafs today. a gazillion shots on net, only one fucking goal to show for it. noone cares to drive to the net, go in the dirty zone when it really matters. im sure clouston rationalized the loss pretty well in his post-game. way to not play the grinders in the third too. slowly and gradually these fucking idiots have all but wiped out their good lead on eastern conference bottom dwellers. thanks to ineptitude at stratospheric levels shown on the ice, the leafs sit only 7 points behind. VERY FUCKING GOOD.

going to have to pull something out of the ass to strike the smile off that fat frenchwoman at work tomorrow.

dont listen to them SC. Theyre just distraught. Resorting to something like that really proves that they have no faith in our team. Hah...bench spezza and Kovy, ahh you guys never cease to amaze.

For a team that showed so much resilience, in Monday Nov 23 game
against Washington ,who are best in NHL(only 5 losses), to slide downward, and play uninspired hockey, as well as continue to get caught with"too many men on the ice" on a regular basis, this is the time to have a team meeting and have all the players "air out their laundry" !!

Melnyk asks the stars to pick up the pace, and I wonder if the pointed players even heard his suggestion !!

Something must be implemented to turn the team 180 degrees !!

Picard was dressed in the warmup but then did not play. Kovy looked exhausted and Spezza looked lost. However the Canadiens were hanging on all night. The Hab fans all around me were extremely worried until they got that lucky first goal where they got an assist from the the referees.
The crowd must have been 70 percent Hab fans. It was horrible.

O for Six

ug. Kovalev looked like he was looking for a chair to sit on half the time he was on the ice. I think he's pretty much benching himself.

I agree with SC, what is bencing both going to accomplish. You have to remember that the players follow a gameplan, the coaches gameplan.

The PP stinks to high heaven, after the 5-6th attempt woldnt you try and change the scheme? Apparently Clouston didnt think so either.

So we go 0-8 with hardly a scoring chance. How long will it take Murray to see that we dont have PP shot from the point (Picard was good at this but he is out)

Volchy is having a hard time, misplayed that 2-1 and then gets caught flat footed on the Habs 3rd goal, think it was Gomez just blew by him.

And Elliot, well, didnt make any big saves to keep us in the game.

I thought Fisher, Alfie, Wichester had a good game, especially Winchester with the big hits!

Phillips, Kuba, Karlsson were invisible all night.

And again at 2-1 Clouston manages to get another "too many men" penalty. Come on, seriously Chirp, does he not know that hockey is played 5-5?!?!?

And of course they score on the PP

Is he trying to get an advantage and just being caught doing it, was he doing this alot in Bingo!?!?

Every damn game he gets 1, this is ridiculous!!

maybe we should stop blaming the players all the time, sit back and have a real look, If I was going to hand 10MM out for 2 years I would of checked too see if the player wanted to play for my team, if you ask me Kov made the right deal he is not playing for the habs but the big Montral market is in reach also he making more $$$, I think he is becoming to much of a ditraction, I'm not sure what we can get for him but needs to move,

Anonymous said...

whats with Kuba, I dont get it

I think Clousten just knows that he can't be fired so he just doesn't give a damn.

I don't usually get too negative on here, but I must say, those 6 missed PP opportunities are pretty disheartening. We need to shop for a cheap shot from the point. I really wish we had've signed MA Bergeron before the habs did, he is exactly what we needed, and we're paying the same to Campoli and Picard for nothing.

I will hope for a win against philly, they have been slumping with no goaltending after all, however i can live with a loss there on thurs. But please, PLEASE let us beat carolina on saturday. I can't deal with us being near the leafs in the standings. That is my nightmare.

hey he finally took partial responsibility for that last night in the post game. however, i he wouldnt name the player who caused it and was pretty pissed about it. and i think he is unhappy with kovalev too now from the sound of his post game. spezza might be in the dog house too.

its good he is angry. its about time he fucking got angry and whipped these idiot fuckers' asses to play the game right.

i mean, we surely can't be missing Neil AND Dono TO LOSE TO THE FUCKING HABS? I MEAN GIVE ME A FUCKING BREAK! THE IDIOT HABS WITH THEIR SMURFS UP FRONT? THEY FUCKING HAVE ONLY ONE, YES ONE CENTREMAN who is 6ft AND HE IS 6FT ON THE DOT.

still very ashamed to lose that game. just very very ashamed as a fan

How exactly did "today's game" change that Spezza can no longer play?

The kid's struggling, no argument there.

But you're the biggest dumbass I've ever seen to think the games changed such that he can no longer play.

You bench them as a wake-up call, isn't that clear?
Spezza is dogging it out there, so is Kovalev. You make one a healthy scratch first.

It's about ACCOUNTABILITY folks. That has been the mantra for the past 2 years and there is none! Sit him and tell him he gets back in the game if he is willing to play with some intensity and two-way game.

The longer you play these guys, it creates an impression in their minds that they can screw the pooch all game long and get rewarded for it then the coach gets canned...

BeJamin said...

SM you're such a retard. It's mainly the players responsibility when there's a Too Many Men penalty. If you'd ever played a game of hockey in your life you'd know it's the players job to make sure the guy your replacing is off the ice before you jump on. However yes, eight too many men on the ice penalties is embarrassing. Clouston needs to figure out why the players are screwing this up and fix it.

Also you might want to realize they scored on the PP because they were lucky. A-Train blew a tire about 5 feet before the blue-line and that's why they got to walk in for a good shot and a rebound before he could get back in the play. Ottawa also hit the Crossbar on that same PP. Montreal just had the puck-luck tonight.

That being said. Although Ottawa for the most part dominated the game. Learned to draw penalties - aka fall down when you are fowled - we still did a lot of things poorly. The Sens badly needed to fight their way to the middle of the ice where true quality scoring chances come from. I would estimate 95% of our shots or chances were from the perimeter which just isn't acceptable. Both of Montreal's goals came from a straight on angle. You have to fight for the middle of the ice it's very important. Bergeron is an effective PP QB because he always gets to the middle of the ice before letting his canon go. He knows that's where he'll be able to create the most chaos and chances with his shot. It's that simple.

Another big reason Spezza is struggling is that nobody he plays with has found a way to be a consistent slot presence - AKA the thing Dany Heatley does so well. Cheechoo on his line would probably help him quite a bit. In terms of using his size, bump, and grind to create some space and get in the slot. Although honestly without Michalek on the line I don't know if it works and Michalek-Fisher-Alfie seem to have some mojo going. Bah humbug! We need some wins!

lol. kovalev is going to take BM with him when he gets out of this town for good.

what a bonehead move. could have signed Kurtis Foster with that bomb PP shot from the back end and have had chump change to spend around. but no, BM, GM of the ottawa senators, gets to make only one good move in a full year and ALL OTHER MOVES SHALL BE BONEHEAD, OUT OF MY ASS.

i officially now side with people calling for BM to be dumped. btw, they need to get Clouston a new assistant coach or coaches. this bunch cant make sure to even keep 5 players on ice.

was looking at a shot-chart on SilverSens for last game. NO SHOT FROM THE SLOT. NOT ONE. only Crease shots and wristers from sides. i thought these idiots had better conditioning now, so whats stopping them from going to the middle? and the biggest pussy of them all right now out there, Kovalev. I have NEVER SEEN HIM GO TO THE MIDDLE. the moment he gets the puck, there is just one play in his bonehead head: GO TO THE HALF WALL AND STAY THERE AND LOSE THE PUCK AND TAKE A DUMB PENALTY.

Murray needs to go, the blowup is still not complete. sick and tired of listening to the sympathizing and apologetic fans too. two years of excuses and constant sham-making. about time fans got a fair return for their loyalty. after all we aren't leafs fans, and therefore shouldnt be treated as such too.

Anon @11:08,

For last time Melynk told Murray to sign Kovalev. As for your boyfriend Kurtis Foster, he is basically a swing man or a healthly scratch right now.

Dave said...

I find it hilarious the number of people faulting Elliot for the goals against last night, saying he needed to make the "big saves", Elliot made some huge saves. Look at the goals he let in, a 2 on 1 goal where the second man was left uncovered. A goal that deflected 2 or 3 times on the PP, and another PP goal where Montreal crashed the net. Leclaire, or any other goalie would likely have let all of them in as well.

@Anon 11:08am

Wow, you seriously dont know anything about the Sens do ya.

It was not Murray's idea to get Kovalev, that came from the big boss and what he says goes!!

Melnyk is the one that brough Kovalev here, not Murray.

Murray has done a great job turning this 2 year massacre around, thx to dumb moves by Muckler and 2 major headcases in Emery and Heatley.

Murray has built this team for the future and has done a great job.

Muckler's tenure:

Playoffs culminating in a Cup finals.

Murray's tenure:

Sweept by Pittsburgh
Missed playoffs
Teetering in and out of the playoff picture.

The future is now in Ottawa. I don't give a crap how good a babysitter Karlsson is for Alfie's kids, this team needs to get back into the playoff picture with home ice because another flop with Murray looking bemused and confused will be an unmitigated disaster.

We have two gimmes coming up.

Losing to either Toronto or Carolina IS SHAMEFUL. WIN THOSE AND THEM HANDILY.

that insideman blog is saying that a deal for Selanne might be close. It would only be for a prospect and draft pics, and the rumours about Kovalev are bullshit.

Anon 11:08pm.

You think Fisher learned to shoot by magic?

Having a guy with Kovalev's skill even just in the practices has helped this team. He does help our 5-on-3 and PP. Clouston has failed to use him on the first PP for the majority of the season and that's a big part of the reason for his low point totals.

Kovalev has also been a large factor in Fisher's resurgent season. He makes our top six deeper with his skill and the way he thinks the game. That's what he's paid to do.

I don't know what anyone was expecting but AK-27 has been exactly what I thought he would be. He's a go between player with high-skill for a few years while we wait to line up with a good UFA to join our top 6.

Ever hear the proverb:

Better to remain silent and thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt.

Thanks for proving that one!

The team assembled under Muckler was one put together by Marshall Johnston, not Muckler! All that senile 'tard ever did was piss away any prospects or picks for mostly useless players. Oh, and he traded for another 'tard in Heatley.

Luckily, Murray was able recoup something out of that waste, and has needed 2 years to clean up the mess left by Mucks.

I look forward to more of your literary felatio on Muckler's tenure...

alright alright, given fisher's game improved with kovalev. but still i digress. and how has he helped us 5 on 3? have we even scored a 5on3 goal yet? i remember the ducks game, we had like two or three 5on3s failed to score on all of them.

lets face it, he had a great year two seasons ago, when mtl was tops in eastern conf. regular standings. but since then, its been just...meh. im not going to rip him completely because he has been dominating on the ice for the sens some games. however, at the end of the day, he is not getting paid for Fisher's Numbers. nor is he getting paid for showing dazzling displays on the ice when he wishes. he is getting paid to score goals and assists.

The whole Melnyk Kovalev thing is overblown no way did he say Brian you fucking sign that guy or your gone give me a break. Any gm with half a brain woulda said Mr Melnyk the guy has 0 heart I will see what kinda money he wants but I don't think he fits on this team. Nope Brian fucking Murray here Kovalev you played so uninspired last year Gainey had to send you home but fuck I'll give you a 500k raise cus our owner has a boner for your..... gimmie a fucking break.

There is a reason Kovalev wasn't signed in the first day of free agency cus no other gms were that fucking stupid.
