(UPDATE 12:20 PM)- James Gordon of the Ottawa Citizen says in his piece that it's an injury that will not require surgey but could keep him out up to 8 weeks.
(UPDATE 11:52 AM)- Clouston said this morning that Spezza suffered a "serious right knee injury" and they won't know the extent of it until some tests can be done. Happy now Spezza haters? Prepare for life without him...
The Ottawa Senators announced this morning that they have recalled forward Josh Hennessey from the Binghamton Senators.
It's believed he will replace the injured Jason Spezza who left late last night against the Leafs. Spezza rolled his ankle pretty bad after a face off and was apparently seen hobbling around after the game last night.
Chris Phillips, Nick Foligno, Chris Kelly and of course Jason Spezza were all off the ice this morning. Hennessey was out there with the team.

Michalek-Winchester-Alfredsson

More coming later on...

Let's get some W's for Spezza...
Go Sens Go!!!
Yikes
Just listening to the boneheaded callers on the Team1200 criticizing Spezza, gimme a break. What kind of fans do we have here in the nations capital? We get down on Leaf and Hab fans for being fairweather fans who are first to throw a player under the bus when they're struggling?
SC, has Spezza been playing with an injury all year?
Sometimes I hate to call myself a SENS because we have fans like this...
Mark,
Absolutely he has. His back has been bugging him all season but hasn't been as bad lately.
Spezza has shown a commitment to the defensive side of the game and has been playing through injuries all year.
The points will come.
People need to lay off. Looks like now we'll get to see how things go without him.
If it's more than 2 weeks, I know many of you will disagree, but I think Murray has to consider these 2 options heavily.
1) Make a trade for a top 6 forward, I know that may be difficult right now, but he knows who's available and it may be a name we've never heard before (for example: kunitz to pittsburgh was out of nowhere).
2) If there is nothing on the trade market or he doesn't want to give up assets, call up washington and ask them to place Nylander on re-entry waivers, I know Nylander is older and he's kind of washed up, but the Sens may be getting a guy who is pissed off that he will play better. One problem with this is I don't know if he can be put on re-entry now that he has been loaned to Grand-Rapids (AHL)
Lets hope Spezza's injury isn't too bad. Whether fans want to admit it or not, Spezza is Ottawa's most important player. When he's on, we win games. When he's not, we don't.
Winchester needs a huge pat on the back for his play of late. Great work by Murray and staff to find and sign this guy out of college.
Its too bad it doesn't happem more than it does, because when everyone on this team is going like they can, the Sens look like a hell of a team.
Jacob, I agree a move would be nice, but with what cap space? We don't have much wiggle room and re-signing A-Train is a priority.
News, Spezza has suffered a serious knee injury according to Team1200, they will have more info soon.
I personally never hate to call myself I SENS fan. Never. But that's just me.
One bad apple only spoils the whole bunch of apples, not fans.
Go Sens go.
pg
With Spezza gone...hmmm...no playoffs again...
uh-oh
clouston: spezza serious right knee injury.
not good. he just started to spark up again too.
however, i still think this team can push it. they have the tools. ofcourse, it wont be as good a threat as it usually is, but still, fisher, kovalev, foligno, alfie, michalek. i think this is the biggest chance peter regin will get to step up and show, ditto for cheechoo, time to start the TD conversions buddy.
Man, I hope the injury to Spezza isn't too serious. We really need him out there. I wonder why the injuries on our team are becoming so common. JC, is it normal at this time of year for so many players to be injured this frequently? Or are the Senators experiencing something higher then normal?
Thanks.
We just missed the playoffs.
yea ofcourse nylander can be put on re-entry. they can work all kinds of deals as long as they follow most rules.
the only major problem would be that once nylander does come to the sens, he would atrociously put us WAYY over the cap. although, he is one hell of a playmaker, just overpaid and not as good as he used to be. certainly helped Jagr look god-like that one year.
Some one want to call Carolina? Whitney or Ruutu please
I think the Sens have enough depth to fill the void in Spezza's absence but man they need Leclaire back in a bad way now. Neil returning soon will help, too. In any case, this injury makes the Sens weaker. Their #1 centre out does not help things.
Michalek-Winchester-Alfredsson is going to be an amazing line. Winchester is now my fav player. He hits, wins face offs, strong along the boards and can play the PK. Mark my words, people will be asking for Winchester on the back of their jerseys.
Too bad for Spezza but we will be alright.
Chirp,
Any news on Leclaire or Neil? Saturday return ?
Nylander wouldn't put us over the cap if it is half his original salary and Spezza is on the LTIR (hope not).
People need to stop baggin on the players so much, especially Spezza. He stuck by the team when Heatley wouldn't. I have the utmost respect for him. I won't get down on this team anytime soon.
We should have won yesterday too. Hate to be that guy and blame the refs but elbows and hits from behind should not go unpunished. As well, that rinky dink heel tap from Winchester shouldn't be called back. That just doesn't seem like much of a kick to me.
while I agree that the last two games spezza has scored, You are wearing rose-cloloured glasses, SC, if you think he has been that much better and as far as him being better defensively, go back and watch the last 10 games and count his turnovers. he may have been at the start of the season but he has slipped back into his old habits. look at the " behind the back pass to the leafs at the blueline" last night for your proof.
we all want him to be better and no one wants to hate him but sticking you head in the sand doesn't do any good.
it's too bad the injury happened now just as he got it through his head to start shooting and the puck was going in but he's done so little this year, maybe because of his back, that this won't be as big a loss as you are making it out to be. if he was at the top of his game, yes for sure, but that simply isn't the case.
Let's call a spade a spade.
If Carolina is willing to do a major trade, would you guys trade Spezza for Whitney and Ruutu?
so um.....peter forsberg to ottawa? after the olympics? yes? yes? guys? anyone?
or ......bryan murray miraculously convinces mats sundin to come and centre a line with his great country-mate alfredsson and also to drive leafs nation crazy with hate?
hm....who else is there lol i heard pavol demitra was being shopped around by vancouver. although he is out too.
honestly, BM should give peter regin the chance and let him run with it.
Whether we make the playoffs or not this year, I'm not too concerned about. This team has no where near the level of talent to be a contender. I will support the Senators regardless, but I hope that Murray is a seller at this year's trade deadline.
Trades I hope to happen: 1. Kovalev for prospects/picks and an expiring contract. Hopefully Kovalev finds his form and some team wants him at the deadline. Will give the Sens cap space. 2. Kuba for prospects/picks. Will clear room for a Volchenkov extension (who is our best defenceman as well as heart and soul). 3. Campoli if there is a market for him.
These moves will make room on our crowded blueline next year for Lee or Cowen to step in. By next year, with the strides Karlsson has made so far along with him putting on more muscle, he should not be that far away for a #1 dman. I think we should hold off until then on trying to acquire one. What we need to acquire is more talent up front where we are sorely lacking prospects.
Mark,
I didn't really think about that, but now that I do, if he is out for weeks/months, then they put Spezza on IR or LTIR which takes his salary cap money off the cap which would leave room to maybe take on about a 4 million dollar player (because of the cap multiplier that we saw last year when calgary got jokinen; basically we're almost halfway so you can basically take on double the salary at this point...only problem would be calling guys up).
At the moment, I'm sure Murray is probably punching a wall in his office, once he calms down I think he'll get to work.
HQ, Nylander on re-entry only claims half his salary so we'd only be responsible for about 2.5 mil on the cap, plus you take into account the cap multiplier and it would work.
It just might work...
However, let's just hope and pray that the Team 1200 is wrong and that Spezza will be back soon...
Lastly, not to depress anyone, but I am realistic, Sens record without Spezza is very poor, almost as bad as our record without Alfie, so GET WELL SOON SPEZZA!!!!
GO SENS GO!!! Big game tomorrow!!!!
Wow all the people that nag on spezza are going to see how important he is to us... this sucks.. REALLY DOES!!!! knowing neil and leclair are almost back I thought we would be full strength again... (well Donovan would make us full strength).. now spezza goes down.. this really blows the big one!! guys are gonna have to step up!
Hey everyone & SC,
um..a serious knee injury, that sounds awfully hard to listen to. Could that mean he's possibly out for the season? Even then, knee problems are incredibly hard to overcome, think it might affect his future?
Im pretty scared for the senators and spezza right now, he's one of the faces of our franchise and seeing him go down with something so harsh and blunt like a "serious knee injury" could not only really hurt is performance wise, but also cap space too.
Lemme know your thoughts SC.
Go Sens Go!
-Carlos
Initial reports say 8 weeks.
That would pretty much keep him out till the Olympics
What do you guys think about getting Peter Mueller from Phoenix? I know his stock is way down this year but he has shown that he has the ability to produce at a high level so I think it would be worth taking a chance on him. He is a natural center who has been shoved to the wing in Phoenix this year.
How about:
to ottawa - peter mueller
to phoenix - brian lee
Hennessy? Really? Blah!
What happened with Z. Smith? Is he no longer good or something?
Wow, where are the Spezza haters now???
Not saying much are we, cuz you know, NOBODY else can play #1 centre on our roster. Fisher would be the next in line but I highly doubt he can play it for an extended period of time.
The #1 centre position is a huge one to fill, you cant just plug in someone there and hope for the best. The person there will have to go up against oppositions top line everynight, log big minutes and be able to take the heat. Spezza has done all of this for us for years! and now as the record indicate, life without Spezza is NOT good at all.
SM
"Hennessy? Really? Blah!
What happened with Z. Smith? Is he no longer good or something?"
There was nothing special there to begin with.
SM
We have been just barely surviving without Leclaire.
Without Spezza this could easily be our playoff hopes trashed right here.
This is the worst possible news for Sens fans.
How about this trade,
Brian Murray FOR some extra cap space.
If Spezza did in fact feel something pop in his knee. Spezza's knee injury could be a lot worse than being out for 8 weeks. Get well soon Spezza.
Hennessy has been the best player in the AHL for the past 5 weeks, and he's tops in the A for +/- too, I think we'll see a different Hennessy this call-up than we've seen in the past.
Fisher's chances of making the olympic team just got better.
We'll be better off without Spezza. He hasn't been contributing offensively and he serves up juicy turnovers to opponents all game.
We're going to be more of a TEAM now, focusing on TEAM aspects instead of trying to get player X his goal because he hasn't scored in his past few.
Heaven forbid we continue winning without Spezza, it would only prove that Alfie, Phillips, Fisher and the rest of the team can get it done without him now, as they have before (Note: The Senators existed before Spezza played for them and actually won games then, hard to believe I know!)
Jim
Thank God for the Olympic break. At least it gives us a cushion for this injury situation.
Some of the trades I read on this are absurd. Half the fans want to trade young prospects for aging/finished players... Really HQ? Forsberg?? Why? To keep Spezza company in the infirmery?
BM knows that there is no patch solution for an injured Spezza. The team needs to step up and see what they are made of. That's it that's all.
Trades should only be evaluated/considered at the trade deadline when we have more info on where we stand. Anything else would just be a desperate move we would all regret down the line (especially with the names that are brought up...)
now is the time to make a trade murray... swing some of our lower forwards/picks for someone to replace spezza! winchester won't cut it
Why...Spezza was never going to the Olympics this year.
Why...Spezza was never going to the Olympics this year.
Spezza was never making the Olympic team and Bob McKenzie said as much on a pre-game last week or so, he was never in the mix.
As for Spezza being 'defensively sound', -5 shows his line is still being scored on at even strength with alarming regularity.
I look forward to seeing a grittier, tougher, team-oriented approach and I for one support this! Go Hennessey! Go Sens!
what happened to cody bass??? who the hell is hennessey put in bass he is a very physical guy and we need that since the rest of the team hits like 5 year old girls except for fish, neil, volchy, and winchester
I'm surprised they didn't call-up St-Pierre! I guess Fisher's gonna be on the first line, Regin on the second, Kelly on the third and Hennessy on the 4th
Man SM you are such a douche and constantly incorrect.
Well I don't disagree with you that Z.Smith is a 3rd/4th line grinder. At least understand the logic of the call-up if you're going to answer another posters question.
Z.Smith is a gritty defensive forward. Hennessy is an offensive guy. We lost a guy in our top six who plays offensive minutes. That's the reason it's Hennessy instead of Smith.
They had to call up the right type of player which only makes sense.
hehe...There are about as many "I told you so's" in here as there are Spezza haters, pretty ammusing.
I think, and I have said this all year, producing or not, Spezza draws the biggest and best defensive assignements from the other team when he is on the ice. Period. Out of respect.
This year, with the addition of Kovalev, that has meant a coming out party for fisher who gets to go against the other teams second best. The confidence he has gained from that has been amazing, and thats the mike "jesus" fisher we have seen this year.
Notice when the lines were
Spez-Mich-Cheech
Fish-Alf-KOvy
The other team put their best against one or the other, and that left the other line to do some damage. I think this injury to spez, unless someone like Regin can step it up, is going to be really reallly bad for this team going forward, and getting Leclaire back is the best thing we can hope for
Lets hold strong Sens Army, we have a tough two months ahead of us
cubilas: fisher's chances of making the olympic team have been soaring regardless of spezza.
i like the peter mueller idea. he is a top top pick and was pretty highly touted last year too. i think he is having a hard time getting on with Tippet's shutdown system down there. would be a sweet trade for Murray to pull. not sure if Phx would want to be so nice to us after we ripped them on KAIGODOROV haha (anyone remember that loser) and Nikulin (the other j.ass) lol
Why not St.Pierre from Bingo?..Is he not the second leading scorer in the league?
ok ill admit spezza has talent, but he has been playing like shit. Im not basing this on point totals at all. I think this is a good thing for the team. we will thrive off this and become better. The spezza haters will be right. the boy is over-rated.
honestly, i think these guys can get it done with spezza out for a bit. clouston just has to coach them like gangbusters.
i mean, the leafs dont have one decent centremen, yet they are getting competetive. i mean, we have fisher who easily pawns all their centremen combined. so, i think regin will get bumped to centering, fisher will stay on the second, winchester is already centering the third and kelly will stick at the fourth. i think its manageable guys. sure some games we will be a little out of the running, but i think they can do it. if they do it right, they can do it.
although a peter mueller trade is still attractive.
@Chirp if this injury is of the 8 week flavor, doesn't that put the squeeze on Murray to make a top 6 forward move nowso more than ever? This is not a stretch of hockey that can afford a subpar performance. Spezza is and will be one of my favorite hockey players and I'm hoping with this injury it will hopefully heal up all other injuries because I think we can all agree that Spezza even in his best efforts hasn't looked like Spezza of years past (you can't say its cause of no Heatley either) I'd like to see the sens make a play for a top 6 forward moreso than a top 4 dman. Our defensive play has been above average this season. The defense can't be there for every situation, the goalie has to come up with big saves too. I can't wait for Lelcaire to return
If Spezza is out for an extended period we're in big trouble.
As much as I like Mike Fisher, he's not a #1 Center.
Spezza may have not had a great year to date, but in all honesty there's nobody on the team or in the system who can take his place as the #1 Center.
Every other GM in the league is aware of this and if Murray wants to trade for a replacement he will have to overpay, and won't get a bona fide #1 back.
We'd be better off getting another shutdown d-man and then playing Sabres/Devils hockey, get your lunch boxes, work hard and try to win 2-1.
i'm all for moving winchester to the top line.
SENSCHIRP
is there a way to put spezza on long term injury list and replace his salary with a (rented)or another player??? 8 weeks brings us a few weeks before playoffs, wouldn't it be better to let spezza sit out the season for a full recovery?? and get a player to fit in his salary like Jagr or someone of a top caliber player.
Leave Britney alone!!! I mean leave Spezza alone.
Why are people taking shots at a guy who just got injured. My guess is Spezza will have zero points in the next 8 weeks. get over it.
And how can Spezza be so good ("we missed the playoffs" because of his injury) and so bad (trade him for a bag of pucks type comments). He may not be the best centerman in the league, but he is the best centerman on the team.
You can't replace a number 1 center. Mueller sounds good and it may improve the team, but he's not going to replace Spezza. Same for Nylander, who is not even playing in the NHL right now.
The team will weather the storm just like other teams have when they have lost one of their top players.
PL
If the team slides over the next month...does trading volchenkov become more of a possibility?
we are fighting 7 other teams for the bottom 3 playoff spots - realistically, can we compete without Spezza
I agree that bringing in an overpaid old guy is not a good plan.
But getting Mueller would give us a much needed young guy (21 yrs old) with offensive potential.
Mueller and Lee seem to be in pretty much the same situation and a change of scenery might be useful for both of them. Also, neither team would feel like they lost out in the draft since mueller went 8th and lee went 9th the year before.
Spezza's out ?????
Okay, let's hope on rehab and healing for Spezza, for both his back and his knee. Neil and Leclaire will be back soon and that should boost the team a bit.
It's been ludicrous with the types and lengths of injuries we've suffered this year, but every single team is going through this problem this season. 2009-2010 will be remembered for the "What the HELL?" injuries across all 30 teams, I swear.
So we don't make the playoffs. Fine. I think Murray has to stay calm and be financially prudent. If he can swing a good deal or two after the Olympic break, then he should, but there's no point in pulling a panicky trigger in the middle of December. Maybe the guys in Bingo aren't ready, but they've got a year to be ready for next year. A franchise has to think long-term, even though ticket sales will slump.
And of course, this means that season ticket sales for next year will probably drop yet again, since ticket sales lag a year behind performance. But Murray's got so many factors to consider, rather than a simple 'get guys/win Cup'.
NOOOOO! Spezzaaaa!! Bad bad news for all sens fans. I sincerely hope that the team can step it up and fill the gap. It will help having pascal and neil back but we cannot replace spezza. Lets just hope that this time off will help spezz get back to 100% as we all know he hasn't been there all year. Maybe cheechoo will get a chance on the second line now, could pay off. Although he would be best complemented with spezza's passing game, oh well. Where will henessey be playing? 4th i presume but not sure.
alfie fish kovalev
michalek regin cheechoo
foligno kelly ruutu
hennessey winchester shannon
well at least with spezz being out for two month maybe he can do something about his back too. if we can stay at around .500 with him out hopefully we'll get a 100% healthy spezza back and we can make a push for the playoffs. if not look on the brightside this year is another strong draft class. but either way really too bad about spezza.
just curious chirp what is the sens record without spezza in the past?
Don't worry, we still have Cheechoo. Isn't he always our 'best player on the ice'?
We just cant catch a break this year boys and when this team is all healthy this is a dominant team.
I'm one of thos Spezza "haters", actually I don't 'hate' the guy, I just think that he's injury-prone, overated, and overpaid - despite his noted effort in improving his 2-way game.
"Happy now Spezza haters? Prepare for life without him..." I'm pretty confident you're going to be pleasantly surprised just how well this team will do without him SC. Remember when Hetley & Kelly stepped up the last time Spezza was out?
Having said that, I think there will be no major improvement until Leclair is back - and even then he might be rusty for a bi. I tmakes me wonder if Murray regretted trading Auld this past summer, especially for so little.
Recall Denis Hamel
your right anon 205 we'll be much better off with spezza out im sure healtey will step up for us like he did last time cuz you know how heatley is team first...
and kelly?? really? ive never seen someone get so many chances to score and never finish i swear the guy misses a wide open net an average 5 times a year.
i think you'll be surprised how poorly the sens do without spezza.
if they want to still be around for the playoffs they need to start playing playoff hockey now. harder on the forecheck, stingy defensivly meaning more than just volchie blocking shots, and we need to send everything to the net no more passing up shots for a tap in goal. time to play desparate hockey boys
I'm speechless.
I'm not going to jump off a bridge and say we're going to miss the playoffs, but you can't replace what Spezza brings, not through a call up or a trade.
I guess the only silver lining could be that Spezza's back will get a while to rest up.
What am I talking about. There's no silver lining here. If anything, this means there's LESS of a chance we'll deal Kelly.
Crap crap crap. He was just starting to turn it on too. Of course it comes in a Leafs game.
A couple of years ago, with Spezza and Fisher injured, the team still managed to win games. That's the bottom line.
This year, Murray has talked over and over about having more depth. Well, we're about to find out if it's true.
I think Spezza's injury will prove that we do not have more depth. Our team is worse under Murray, and this injury will prove that.
Murray has built in grinding team. I don't think there is enough talent to pick up the slack.
Hey Anon 2:05. Remember that we don't actually have Heatley anymore.
We literally do not have anyone who is going to be able to step it up. We were awful when Spezza missed 2-3 games earlier this year with his back. Which by the way he has being playing hurt with all year.
The only good thing about this injury is that it might give him time to actually get his back in the right place again.
The reality is the Sens will have to fight like dogs to keep themselves in the playoff race. Look how hard it was for Boston to be even a .500 team when Savard was out. Expect the same impact. He's a key guy not just because of the points he creates but the minutes he fills and the attention he gets from the oppositions defense pairings.
Well if these reports are true this is a HUGE blow to the Sens...
I just hope that the rest of the team lift their game and forecheck harder and out work their opponents. If they can do that on a consistent basis and Pascal is solid this team will still stay right in the mix for a playoff spot!
GO SENS GO!!
We'll be fine.
It's a team game and too often Spezza puts himself ahead of the team with his backpasses and lackadaisical play.
If we lose against Buffalo or the Wild it won't be for lack of Spezza but rather defensive breakdowns and lackadaisical play.
I trust my team though. :-)
Now i really think we need some offensive help!!
To Sens: Ray Whitney
To Canes:Shannon+2nd pick(from S-J)
Please Bryan ,make the right move!
We already know what it will be like to play without Spezza, we have been doing it all season.
Pretty sure anyone from bingo can match Spezzas current production!!
For those who say high risk brings high reward in regards to Spezza need to rethink this saying becuase all I can see from Spezza is the risk. Eventually too much risk just inst worth the reward.
Here is what is going to happen... Kelly moves up to one of the first two lines, shows some offensive skill, pads his stats like he did 3 years ago and voila, his trade value goes through the roof. I think Kelly would do well with Alfie and Michalek - he keeps it simple and he's got some wheels.
In the meantime, if Spezza is on LTIR - which I'm assuming he'll be, his salary comes off the books so it clears space for a decent D-man or another top 6 forward.
While I agree that it's important to make the playoffs, it is of equal importance to build properly for the future. The last thing we need to do, for the next few months with Spezza out, is bring in some has-been replacement or loose more draft picks in a desperation move.
Give a few of the kids in Bingo a shot - see what they can do first.
wow be prepared to be over taken by many teams including the leafs this fucking blows. Even tho he has not put up the numbers this will hurt big time!
Well at least there are two good things to look at. One is that Spezza will finally get a chance to rest his back for an extended period of time. And the second is the olympic break will eat up a couple weeks of his absence, so he won't miss as many games.
I just hope Clouston doesn't break up the Fisher line in Spezza's absence. Finding a suitable replacement between Michalek and Alfredsson would be a lot better than disrupting the chemistry Foligno, Fisher and Kovalev have.
Oh my goodness, this might be old news, but I just found out Spezza just sold his house!
http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Hockey/NHL/Ottawa/2009/12/12/12133026-qmi.html
Anyone hear anything?
Old news Nathan. Nothing to it.
We talked about it a little bit in the Sunday post.
But I can say 100% this is a non story.
this might just work out well for the Sens Josh Hennessey I am sure likes what happened to Matt Chatner I sure he will feel he has a better shot of making the big club this time.
Anon 2:05 continued… - Obviously I know Heatley isn't on the team nor do I expect Kelly to be our saviour. My point was the team responded well during Spezza's last major injury, and if I recall it launched the Sens lacklustre season into a Stanley Cup final run.
I don’t expect a Stanley Cup run this year, but I do expect Winchester, Kovalev, and maybe even Cheechoo to all step up.
It’s not like Spezza was lighting up with points or dominating in the faceoff. Heck, he was even starting to do fly-bys instead of finishing a check. Don’t forget we still have Michalek and Alfie on the #1 line so the majority of other teams will still be focusing on them.
Honestly, the Leclair injury has much more of an impact that Spezza.
Thank god for anon. at 12:06.
How much are we gonna miss Spezza's 5 goals? How much are we gonna miss Spezzas record setting turnovers per game? And how about his -5? O ya how bout his perimeter play? Or how about not finishing his checks?
Am I the only person who watched the game last night? Aside from his goal (which the announcers correctly identified as blown coverage by the opposition which resulted in the goal), Spezza played a TERRIBLE game. He had numerous blue line drop pass turnovers, failed to finish his checks, and really didnt generate much other than that soft PP goal ( O wait I forgot, he had a couple of high wrist shots that missed the net cause he was too lazy to drive to the outside or attempt to deke).
This is not as bad as any1 has made it out to be. More nights than not, Spezza hasnt produced and has been a defensive liability.
Why does everyone jump to defend a guy like Spezza? I flat out dont understand. Yes, hes gifted offensively, but we havent seen that this year, or last year. What we have seen is the least defensively responsible 7 million dollar centerman in the NHL.
If you like Spezza, thats fine. But the stats at the top of my post dont lie. Spezza is not the great player some of you make him out to be.
@ BeJamin.
Wow, you must be sniffing heavy shit if you think Henessy will take Spezza's spot, WOW!
Henessy is 3rd/4th line player at best, which he's shown in the past.
Winchester or Fisher have the best shot but I doubt they can complete vs other teams #1 line.
SM
ya relax is only Spezza I like him a great team guy but only 5 goals I still think he is going to be traded and a deal is already worked out, with a west coast team, it was going to come down after the Olympic's
Spezza needs to reprove him self with out Heatley, he will have time to reflect and at the same time heal his back.
this could be a good thing.
