I take full responsibility for all anonymous posts. I'm really just jealous that the Sens are better than the Leafs.
All this peach schnapps has made me way too honest. Oh well, back to seaching for gay porn.
Oh look.. here it comes again... yes we got plastered.. and now that we've lost tonight everyone is going to write the season off.. its 1 game.. unlike football where 1 game makes a huge difference, ottawa still has a great chance of making the playoffs.. if you want to walk away from your team after a loss go join the loosers in leafs nation, and dont let the door hit you on the way out...
Relax folks... It was an embarrassing loss, but dont think for a moment we are the only ones who lose games... I remember the Pens getting smoked in our own house a few weeks ago....
Its easy to panic after a humiliating loss, but remember its one game out of a 82 game schedule. If they lose the next game by a blowout, then I'd be worried!
say what you want, but what I saw was Michalek going after Adams, Carkner beating on Adams, Neil beating on Ruff, Ruutu trying to get Adams to go, Chum trying to get Cooke to go more than twice, Malkin getting away with murder (again), Kelly scoring with a little over a minute to go in the game, Shannon flying around out there, Cheechoo skating hard on both the forecheck and backcheck... so many years they'd roll over and take it... but not this group... they were bad tonight and they were beat... but they didn't hand over the win to the Pens.... I'm proud of my Sens... bail if you want, f*ck you if you do... By the way, what is the difference between the Adams hit on Alfie and the Ruutu hit on Kaleta?... Ruutu got a 5 minute penalty for a hit to the head with his shoulder... I don't get it...
Merry Christmas and happy holiday to Senschirp and the rest of Sens Army. Sorry if I sounded a little bit pissy during the live blog Sens Chirp and Sens Army. I was a pissed about Pittsburgh got away few calls on a few goals where the Sens have been punished in the past.
There's a reason why the Penguins are the champs, and most likely will be again this season. They are just dominant and we can't compete against them to be honest.
BUT it is just one game and it is not indicative of Leclaire or the whole team for that matter. We will be better than this!
Hmm, if my memory serves me correctly, a couple of years ago the Sens plastered a team right before the break, then collapsed in the second half...hmmmm, maybe they can do the opposite, oh well...I think it was a solid effort....in the first period!
GO SENS GO
Thanks for everything Chirp, I might stop by Boxing Day, might need to use your blog to blow off steam again
This season is over for Ottawa if Alfy is out for more than 2 weeks. Even tho he hasn't shown up on the scoreboard lately, tonight was only a preview of what life is like without Alfy in the lineup.
FUCK THE PENS! most annoying (bandwagon) fans on the planet. i cannot stand the FSN broadcast. pardon my french.
Don't throw in the towel folks, that score is embarrassing, but not worth giving up over. It's not really indicative of how the Senators are as a team, more of a blip on the radar. Reality is that they were knocked off their game when Alfie got hurt. They spent the rest of the time getting too aggressive, and it cost them.
That said, Alfie will DEFINITELY miss time with that one. I think Murray's hand is going to be forced unfortunately. If Alfie is going to miss significant time, he'll need a decent forward to fill the gap. Spezza's already out for another 7 weeks, if Alfie's gone for more than 3 or 4, and Foligno is still gone for a week or two, he'll need to make a move.
as many of you have said yes tonight was rough and the D look disorganized but as alot of others have said you need to relax. i'm not worried at all about what just happened against the pens, who are easily the most under rated offense right now as they have lacked the bite they show on nights like tonight. what i'm worried about is our captain.
it's nights like tonight that make me think about who alot of these sens fans really are. I feel that perhaps on our cup run which ended against buffalo and then the following year where we made it all the way to the finals, losing only a game in each series that alot of non hockey fans jumped on the bandwagon. there's a big difference in the way that hockey and non hockey fans tolerate team issues. i feel that alot of the non hockey fans, ones that did not care much for hockey before the sens were killing it, only like hockey when their team is winning and given ottawa dominating close past they dont know how to handle a bit of losing.
so again, relax. we are missing our top 2 points guys and a big role player in foligno right now. although i like the team alot, i still believe something needs to be done with kuba. thats alot of salary for a D man that wont use his size and would rather skate around the net than worry about the odd man rush he just created.
leclaire is back and i thought he looked great. so relax to those fans who are already counting the draft picks and realize that part of being a fan means sticking by your team through thick and thin. otherwise we dont need sens fans like that because it makes the rest of us look like doornobs.
Honestly it looks like the team mailed it in just like the last game. They just didn't have the intensity you need to win an NHL game. Made it way too easy on the Pens. However we were the better team before Alfie went down. It's not unusual to see a team lose control of the ship when a very important player goes down in such an unsettling way.
If Alfie is out for anything more than a week it will put our playoff hopes on life support. The team just does not win when he's out of the lineup for extended periods of time.
If we do choose to rebuild at some point I think we should opt for a partial rebuild rather than a full overhaul.
My Partial Re-Build Analysis:
A-Train for a 1st+ if we can't get him to re-sign to a reasonable deal this season. Reasonable is 3.5M or lower. We can't afford to give him 4M long-term especially with his likelihood of spending a good deal of time injured as he gets older.
Kuba to a team next year at the deadline for a 1st once his NTC expires. This year if he waives and we're out of it by that time.
Lee + 2011 1st for a good young center. Try to aim at a team with salary cap issues and too much talent to keep them all. I'd aim for Bolland from Chicago. Krejci from Boston. Either of these players would dramatically improve our depth going forward. There are many names out there who might also be available at a reasonable price.
I live in Edmonton and I am commited to the Sens more than some of you guys. After every loss half of you are complaining and saying to count on draft picks. Last time I checked the Sens were in the playoffs and they lost one game but hopefully they come back after Christmas and kick some ass. If alfie is out someone like cheechoo will need to step up.
Merry christmas Senschirp and all the other REAL sens fans.
like phil said most of you guys doing the complaining probably jumped on the bandwagon a couple years ago. Now the sens are having a little struggle and you guys are getting scared. I think it is time for you to jump on another bandwagon.
Really people?!? Optimism!?! May I remind you this team has won ONE, maybe TWO, games with Alfie out of the line-up in the last 20 that he has missed!!! And that was with Spezza AND Heatley on the team. Now we have NEITHER.
I'm all for being a superfan but let's be real...this team is SCREWED without Alfie. If he's out anymore than 4 weeks, the season is effectively over.
ya thats right if we stay away Murray will have no choice but to leave town. I dont want him making anymore trades for this team not the best record. let stay away
K i love ottawa as well but ppl are right.. we need to get rid of kuba. right now while his value is decent.. get another 3 mill shutdown guy to go with karlsson. or trade for brent burns and get our number one d. its possible folks. murray has to do something. the best teams have a number one D man or 2 really great d men. detroit?. rafalskie and liddy. pens? gonchar letang. hawks? dont get me started. our d is pathetic.
Changes? I highly doubt Murray will do much. Melnyk must be yanking his hair out with the team playing this inconsistently. Looks like it will be a fight for a playoff spot....I really hope they can do it. However, with this Blueline, i dont think they will. I guess we will have to wait and see.
trade Kuba then what? play Campoli for 20+ mins a night?
how do you propose we get Burns AND keep Karlsson? Minny is VERY high on him and we couldnt even get him for Heatley.
Think before you post terrible trade moves. There are going to be no "blockbuster/top pairing defensemen" trades. There are barely any trades to begin with.
When times are darkest, the smallest light goes the longest way. The one thing I thought when I saw this scoreline was "huh, this is the first time I can remember since the year 2000 that the sens have given up 7+ goals. If we can give more opportunity to some younger players they will pull through. Regin looked good tonight and a quarter of our lineup was playing hurt or getting back from injury. We'll be fine over the next little while, just need some more anger. Relax guys, if they can keep a winning record until Alfie returns, this team will make the playoffs.
Pfff what's with all the whining again! Sens lost and in à devastating way, but... We are still in de playoffs. As for oud captains injury, the timing is unfortunate, with both spezz and Nicky out! Still, we will be able to overcome the loss of our captain. If nothing else, it will prepare us for life after Alfie's retirement! Merry X-mas everyone!
1:28am, sorry, but you're just another short sighted individual not paying attention to what Murray is doing rebuilding the team through drafting while we still are competitive.
9:58am, nicely done. I see you then had something else to say at 10:37 LOL
10:13, cry me a river. Leafs suck.
Everyone chill out, Murray will have us back on top a few years from now. Merry Xmas, Everyone!
Guys, what's all this BM bashing for? How is it HIS fault that alfie's hurt? How is it HIS fault that our entire first line is out (foligno can arguably be part of our first line but Milan is generally on it though...)?
We don't need to trade! I suggest we bring up young folks from Bingo. Go with guys like Bass or something. Guys with grit and can fight. We'll have a chance of winning, AND we get entertaining hard checks etc...
We'll do fine and EVEN on the slight off chance we don't do well, BM, being the awesome drafter he is, will get us a real superstar-destined prospect, so enjoy the games!
We outshot them by double... how can a team outshoot the oppsition by lik 25, and lose that bad. That game was a rare occurance, and that wont happen anymore. As for the alfie hit, people like to claim it was a clean hit. Fine, it was a clean hit, he had his head down, but WHO HITS the other teams star players like that. Ottawa is the only team that gets picked on like that because the opposition knows they can get away with it. If that had been let's say Shean Donovan hitting their captain, Sid the Baby, the exact same way, we can just guess what would happen, id say Dono wouldn't see another NHL game after that. Its very upsetting
Obviously bad coaching in this one, you see your Leader go down and you do nothing about it. I dont care about the fine, suspension, reputation. Right now our Capt is out 3-4 weeks atleast and we did NOTHING about it. Clouston the coward should have sent a message and go after Malkin or Crosby. Its the only way we dont hang our heads in shame but no.....
Now watch as the season goes down the drain.
Thx Clouston, for sending a message to the NHL that the Ottawa Senators dont have a backbone!
Sigh... It was a loss by a huge margin, however it does not spell the end of the season and it certainly does not spell the end of Brian Murray. If every lopsided loss in the league resulted in a knee jerk canning of the GM then every team would be firing their GM at least once a year.
These types of losses happen to every team, and while it sucks, especially when there are some questionable calls and non calls, which may or may not have hanged the outcome, there are still another 40+ games to play in the season, with Ottawa sitting in playoff contention (currently in 7th in the East). An injury to the Captain is a big deal, however it is not the end of the world. Many have been quick to point out that without Alfie leading the team the Sens have put together terrible records. But do not forget that we have a completely different team which consists of more heart and soul players than we've had in the past, so I would say that it's a little too early to be writing off the season.
Chicago 2 at 6 Washington Montreal 2 at 6 Buffalo Florida 2 at 6 Washington Boston 1 at 5 Montreal Toronto 2 at 7 Boston Washington 8 at 2 Philadelphia NY Islanders 2 at 6 Philadelphia Vancouver 1 at 6 St. Louis Detroit 9 at 1 Columbus Los Angeles 0 at 7 Atlanta Vancouver 8 at 2 Colorado Florida 6 at 2 Buffalo Pittsburgh 2 at 6 Ottawa Chicago 7 at 1 Calgary Chicago 7 at 2 San Jose NY Rangers 3 at 8 Pittsburgh Edmonton 3 at 7 Vancouver
Just thought I'd show you what I mean by every team will have fired their GM by the end of the year. Granted not every team is represented, however many are, and it is almost guarenteed that all teams will have lost by a huge margin by the end of the season at least once.
Anyone who thinks BM should make a trade to improve this team in nthe short run is obviously smoking same stuff BM was when he signed kovalev.
We can't compete with the elite teams in the league and will not be able to until we draft some elite talent of our own. It's as simple as that. We should be looking to trade guys for draft picks and propects, cause this group is going nowhere fast.
Anyone who thinks this team has any chance whatsoever of making it past the 1st round of the playoffs is insane. Very likely top 4 seeds: NJ, Pitt, Caps and Bruins. Which of these teams would the Sens have any chance of beating? So what's the point? Do you all want to watch the Sens for 4 more games enough to sacrifice the chance to draft a game-breaker type player?
Do you really think that it's worth while for a team who can make the playoffs to throw the rest of the season so that they can get a higher draft pick, have you seen how many fans abandon the team after a bad loss?
If the team starts losing on purpose than no one will go to the games which results in no revenue for the team, no revenue for the team means no more team in Ottawa.
I fail to see how that is helpful. The fact of the matter is, whether or not we make it past the first round depends largely on if we can begin playing as a team on a consistant basis, I don't care who we play, if our players stick together we have a good chance of winning.
great post dave. just goes to show that blow outs happen all the time. and murray should go no where. his drafting has created a D corp that will be unreal and cheap in years to come. wiercoch, cowan, and erikson!! come on people think about how much that will free up for money to our big names. it's brilliant. and while we watch kids like winchester and especially regin who is playing top minutes in his first real season. and shannon as well. these are smart, low drafts that the sens have carefully developed. doing a great job murray keep it up.
yea the score was bad, but putting it in perspective, the sens were not playing to win by scoring once alfie went down, they were playing to win by physically beating the shit out of the penguins.
Neil had no interest in the puck, all he wanted to do was just take runs at more and more and more penguins. I dont mind that, when your captain goes down, all bets are off.
Cooke is the BIGGEST PUSSY ever for backing down from Dono. Man, for all the bad rep Ruutu gets for chickening, Cooke just bumped him for Top Spot for ever. BIGGEST CHEAP CHICKEN PUSSY EVER! wow.
rants: does Kuba still play for this team? to be a team's top D you have to be visible, and if you are not visible, then too bad. Also, sometimes some of these guys shoot pucks as if they are getting to shoot it for the first ever time. Case in point: Kuba's shot on a odd man rush, which he should have ATLEAST put on net. but NOO, how could he be so right, its so hard to do, he had to absolutely WIRE it WIDE of the NET, to create a sweet ass SUPER-ODD MAN RUSH of top PENGUINS THE OTHER WAY, which resulted in the score only getting worse. yea, maybe he isnt that good as we thought he was........
I think Regin had a good game. He looked good on that top line and held his own against crosby in the faceoff circle. clearly Leclaire was beyond rusty.
lastly I think the game was called atrociously, the penguins were given an abundance of Powerplays for two blatant phantoms calls: the cheechoo hit on Malkin, where i just dont see how he high sticked him, ditto on the goaltender interference we got and also, NEIL FOR CHARGING? when did he frigging charge him.
anyways. i think worse than the score was alfie getting injured and that was where the game kinda ended for the sens.
I'm not saying lose on purpose. I'm saying trade who we can for p+p's, because this team might squeek into the playoffs. But the fact is, under dogs do not win the cup. They just don't. Look at previous winners, and tell me when the last time one of these teams that squeek in won. When? And if we have NO chance of winning this year, which I'm sure everyone on this site will admit, why not try and build a winner now instead of putting it off yet another year? Seriously, why not? Is the hockey that fabulous to watch? Who would you rather watch right now, the Hawks, Caps, Pens, Kings or the Senators (all things being equal)? They all pulled the plug and admitted they were going nowhere a while ago. Now its our turn.
What do you think would put more people in the seats? Another early-round playoff disappointment or Hall or Seguin? What would sell more season tickets? A team on the rise or a team stuck in mediocrity with no sign of getting any better or worse any time soon. Well, which is it?
By the way, what's attendance like in chicago these days? What was it like 5 years ago? Same question but for pittsburgh, washinbgton, etc.. etc... etc...
But underdogs do win the cup, look at Carolina and Tampa Bay, plus even if the Sens don't make it far, if they play well it will bring more fans back to the games, and more importantly will show the team that they are capable of competing in the playoffs.
I love the fact that you think that trading away our players, I would assume you mean our core seeing as trading our young talent is counter productive, is worth getting 1 high draft pick. Furthermore, it perplexes me that you think we even have a shot at competing for last place without throwing games. The only way we are getting those picks is by coming in last or second last.
"A team on the rise or a team stuck in mediocrity with no sign of getting any better or worse any time soon" I fail to see how we are not a team on the rise. In 2 years or so we will likely have one of the best D Corps in the league. Not to mention that we have 4 or 5 young forwards who are playing very well as it is, Michalek, Foligno, Winchester, Regin. We are a team on the rise, our D is really the only issue I see and that situation will be rectified in the years to come.
So I ask you, what's better? Abandoning a team already on the rise for a single forward prospect who may not pan out, see Daigle, or stick with a team which will be capable of making a deep playoff run in the next couple of years.
Anon @ 10:26am - I'd rather be in the playoffs, thanks. And your point is moot because we will never be bad enough to finish last and get Hall.
The Blackhawks sucked because of Bill Wirtz. He was too cheap to put anything into that team and didn't even try to get television exposure. It is abundantly clear that Rocky Wirtz is easily the biggest reason for the Blackhawks turn around. Spend money to make money.
PS. Everyone lay off B. Murray. He is doing a great job solidifying the future. It will really be his team in two/three years. Criticize him then if it is sucking.
Mmmmm, OK. Get off the ledge buddy. I don't even know where to start, but Dave covered most of what's wrong with your post. Is Hall or Seguin even close to the talent of Ovechkin, Malkin, Crosby, Toews? Never. Next year is a weak draft year, so your great 'plan' would be a massive waste anyways.
What is wrong with you guys!!! Its a single game where 3 players rejoined the team after a long time off. ONE GAME! No need for a trade. Phi got Pronger and still losses games consistently (inc a 8-2 loss to Wash). Ott beat Pit in a similar fashion last month. Buffalo lost 5-2, should they throw in the towel? You guys are ridiculous and im ashamed that your Sens fans! Give Fisher a day off as he just got engaged and probably a bit distracted. Spezza and Alfredsson out, playing a hot Pit team. So its a loss... Who cares... Move on.
last year, carolina was not even in the playoffs in december. they put in a solid run. not to mention fired their coach. also, Rod Brinda'mour was having an atrocious year. they didnt have a stalwart in the back end. YET they went all the way to the conference finals.
right now, we have a team which is in 8th place. we have a team which we know does not play like it played tonight and plays FAR better. we have a team which got angry and confused because its CAPTAIN WENT DOWN. we have a team which was more interested in retribution last night after it went 2-1 than ANYTHING ELSE. we have a team which beat the same penguins team in November a very decisive full 60 minutes 6-2.
why the fuck would we pull the plug on this team right now, when we know it can make the playoffs easily. when we know that if they play it right regardless of skill, they can beat ANY team any night.
Pulling the plug when we are still in a playoff spot is absolutely stupid. can't believe a team's own fucking fans would suggest that kind of idiocity. go seriously shove a broom up your asses and watch the toronto maple leafs if you want a team that needs to pull the plug ALL THE TIME.
miss the playoffs= increase the number of ass-faced fans that show up on this forum= give the same idiotic bigger crowd of fans a further reason to bail on the team and not buy game-tickets = become the phoenix coyotes of the northeast = NO TEAM IN OTTAWA
I fail to see how that fits into what we were discussing. Alfreddson would likely be back in time for the playoffs. So if we were to make it, his injury now wouldn't matter with respects to playoff performance.
This team is doomed, unless Murray can pull something out of his ass, Losing the captain and Spezza long term means no offence to go along with our mediocer defence at best...LeClair will have to steal games after the break, and I know tonighht was first game back, but it wasn't a good start...
Yeah Dave we have character but we don't have guys that can put the puck in the net consistently and we don't have a great "D". Leclaire is shakier than a jumping bean in nets.
I'm hoping we only lose half our games with Alfie out, that would be a major turnaround.
Guys it's not the bad loss that has people wanting to pull the plug, it's the loss of Alfie, combined with Spezza. It's going to be a real battle for the next few weeks.
Alfie out for a few weeks and a spanking by the Pens. What a crappy way to start the holidays! Oh well...Merry Christmas to my fellow Sens fans and you SC!
I mentioned Crosby ahead of Malkin because everybody knows that he is better than Malkin. In the most important series against the Caps, Crosby dominated and outplayed both Ovechkin and Malkin. Uf the Pens could only keep one of them, they would keep Crosby without hesistation.
Now getting back to the Sens, Taylor Hall would look good in a Sens uniform but we're not finishing in the lottery pool so that's out of the question.
This year's draft class is great, I don't know why you say it's weak.
Jesus some of you people are ridiculous. Why do you even bother posting here? EVERY team from the very best, to the very worst, take a couple MASSIVE beatdowns in an 82 game schedule. Look at San Jose getting crushed on home ice a couple weeks ago. Hell, look at OUR last game against the Penguins. We hammered them into the ice, and so, they returned the favour. All you crybabies writting off the entire season are forgetting one HUGE fact. The Senators are holding down a playoff spot at this very moment, and that's with 3 rather key guys out of our lineup over the last month. In fact, we are but 3 pts. behind Boston for 5th in the conference. Not too shabby, all things considered. Ya, it sucks that Alfie and Spezz are out, but life goes on and so will this team. So, quit your damn belly aching. We're all entitled to our opinions, but if you're going to post, at least be logical and rational. Good lord...
we have 6 more wins this year after 37 games. we could make the playoffs I would rather dive and pick up a draft pick. right now Toronto has a better team and that really bugs me,
According to TSN, the team knows what Alfie's status is right now but they won't tell the public til x-mas is over.... very curious and hope it aint serious!
Yes, that's right only one series is important in the Playoffs, not the other three you need to win the Cup. There's a reason Malkin won the Conn Smythe; he's was/is the MVP on the Pens. As long as they are on the same team, Crosby will be the second best player on it.
Enjoy the the Kool-Aid the marketing machine is pumping out though.
lets just think of the next couple of weeks as a chance for the younger forwards to develop and work out the kinks with lots of ice time. i assume the wait on alfie's means its like a monthish. haha orrr on the other side of the spectrum it means season ending surgery and he wants to get to enjoy his family time before dealing with the media. fingers crossed thats not the case, the end of alfie's career would be fantastic if he can do it with minimal injuries nagging him.
Anon 10:47PM it's obviously serious. That's why they are waiting. If it was good news. They would announce it and call it an early Christmas present for Sens fans.
I'll tell you right now at the least it's 2-4 weeks. I bet in actual fact it will be announced as 4-6 weeks. Might even be worse than that but my hunch is that it's 4-6.
It will be a battle, but we'll keep 500 pace. They'll be in "win it for Alfie" mode until he comes back.
We are in the bottom of the top 8 for a reason...because we lost our #1 goalie, and Cheech is not worth 3 mill. But we played well enough to be in the top 8 until now.
And of course we need another guy slightly better than Kuba.
Beyond that we're fine. We will make the playoffs, and we'll probably trade a second round pick and Lee for a top 4 D, and some grinder like Scott Hartnell to play in the second line during the playoffs.
Man, you guys just don't get it, do you? Underdogs do NOT win the cup. Tampa Bay won the friggin east and carolina was 1 point away from winning the presidents trophy. Get a friggin clue. Go back through the years and tell me the last time a seed under 4 won the cup. Let me know, then tell me how we'll just "get in and go on a run". Let me know guys.

well, this was our best defensive game ever!
MERRY CHRISTMAS CHIRP YOUR BUDDY lol
beginning of the end for this generation of sens
Yeah....We needed a loss like this. Bryan Murray MUST make a move. He just has to...we cant continue playing with the pathetic d-corps.
go sens go...

Listening to the team 1200, and they are saying Alfredsson injuring is not looking good. Could be missing some time.

All this peach schnapps has made me way too honest. Oh well, back to seaching for gay porn.
What an F'n joke.... Thank you Carkner for laying a beat down on Adams.... Good lord, I'm embarrassed right now..
I stopped watching after 5-1, did Leclaire get pulled or injured?
what happened to Alfie? I heard he got hurt. Didn't see the game...
bye bye playoffs, hello high draft ^picks!!
Cooke is a bitch, he told Donovan he didn't want to fight after having taking him out several weeks ago - what a bitch. Man up for your actions.
Pittsburgh will get owned this spring, mark my words.
LOL - a big loss and everyone's throwing in the towel. Or maybe just one lonely boy in his basement posting over and over.
Still - relax people. Vent if you want to sure - tonight was painful. But the sun will come up tomorrow.
9:58 - guess you take sarcasm and criticism a little personally eh? I would't expect a 12-year old to act like that. Way to go loser.
Guranteed trade in the next couple days? (not including the break)

Anon9:58 - Thank you, I need to smile. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone
no alfie, no spezza!!
say what you want, but what I saw was Michalek going after Adams, Carkner beating on Adams, Neil beating on Ruff, Ruutu trying to get Adams to go, Chum trying to get Cooke to go more than twice, Malkin getting away with murder (again), Kelly scoring with a little over a minute to go in the game, Shannon flying around out there, Cheechoo skating hard on both the forecheck and backcheck... so many years they'd roll over and take it... but not this group... they were bad tonight and they were beat... but they didn't hand over the win to the Pens....
I hope this is the end of BM the Pens where laughlin at us, I think this is why Heatley wanted out of this town he seen what was happening
the best we can do is stay away from home games.
Ouch. That one hurt. Oh well.
Merry Christmas to JC and all the Sens fans on this forum. Thanks for all your hard work this year.
Take care.
Sincerely,
Harman
Merry Christmas and happy holiday to Senschirp and the rest of Sens Army. Sorry if I sounded a little bit pissy during the live blog Sens Chirp and Sens Army. I was a pissed about Pittsburgh got away few calls on a few goals where the Sens have been punished in the past.
There's a reason why the Penguins are the champs, and most likely will be again this season. They are just dominant and we can't compete against them to be honest.
BUT it is just one game and it is not indicative of Leclaire or the whole team for that matter. We will be better than this!
GO SENS GO
Hmm, if my memory serves me correctly, a couple of years ago the Sens plastered a team right before the break, then collapsed in the second half...hmmmm, maybe they can do the opposite, oh well...I think it was a solid effort....in the first period!
GO SENS GO
Thanks for everything Chirp, I might stop by Boxing Day, might need to use your blog to blow off steam again

I feel that perhaps on our cup run which ended against buffalo and then the following year where we made it all the way to the finals, losing only a game in each series that alot of non hockey fans jumped on the bandwagon. there's a big difference in the way that hockey and non hockey fans tolerate team issues. i feel that alot of the non hockey fans, ones that did not care much for hockey before the sens were killing it, only like hockey when their team is winning and given ottawa dominating close past they dont know how to handle a bit of losing.
so again, relax. we are missing our top 2 points guys and a big role player in foligno right now. although i like the team alot, i still believe something needs to be done with kuba. thats alot of salary for a D man that wont use his size and would rather skate around the net than worry about the odd man rush he just created.
leclaire is back and i thought he looked great. so relax to those fans who are already counting the draft picks and realize that part of being a fan means sticking by your team through thick and thin. otherwise we dont need sens fans like that because it makes the rest of us look like doornobs.
rant complete
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you too Chirpie!!
Keep up the good effort.
WORST CHRISTMAS PRESENT EVER.
Alfie gets knocked out of the game and there goes the heart of the team. Who is going to lead this team once Alfie retires...
Merry Christmas Chirp
Here's a tip for Sens fans out there. When Leaf and Habs fans annoy the shit out of you - as they likely do. Offer them this wager.
If the Leafs/Habs lose the season series to the Sens this year they have to cheer for our team for 1 years time.
I bet that 95% of them won't take the bet. They won't take it because they know the Sens are a better team. Shuts them up real fast.
Bunch of 'effin whiners complaining after 1 loss. It's not like your life depended on it.
As some of the posters mentioned, Ottawa is still in good position to make the play-offs.
ya thats right if we stay away Murray will have no choice but to leave town. I dont want him making anymore trades for this team not the best record. let stay away
i heard some crazyness on jered stoll to ottawa???

Anon 1:28
trade Kuba then what? play Campoli for 20+ mins a night?
how do you propose we get Burns AND keep Karlsson? Minny is VERY high on him and we couldnt even get him for Heatley.
Think before you post terrible trade moves. There are going to be no "blockbuster/top pairing defensemen" trades. There are barely any trades to begin with.

Leafs lose, Sens lose, guess which story is on TSN.ca's front page...ah well at least they're not Federally funded Leafs fans like another channel.
I bet Ottawa will not be the last team to get blown away by the Pens until season end.
I think a loss like this one can be good for our team to understand we can only win if we play a perfect team game, offensively and defensively.
Is it me or we miss the net so many time when we have clear scoring chances. Kovalev and Ruutu.
The next 10 games will show if we have the character to be a playoff team or not. Games are always tougher to win after the Xmas break.
I believe this team can win every game when they put the effort and play a tight defense.
Let's do it boys.
GO SENS GO,
Bill
Oh ya... almost forgot, Merry Christmas everyone!
SM
@ Carlos
Dude, do you even watch hockey, do you even know who the Sens are?
I dont know but just maybe, maybe did you happen to watch the game last night? Especially the part where Alfie was nailed and then left the game??
Im just saying, cuz you seem to be in lala land man. Yeah were in great position alright? How can you even say that?
SM
Merry Christmas, and Happy Holidays.
Dave
Happy holidays Sens fans!

Just thought I'd show you what I mean by every team will have fired their GM by the end of the year. Granted not every team is represented, however many are, and it is almost guarenteed that all teams will have lost by a huge margin by the end of the season at least once.
Dave
Anyone who thinks BM should make a trade to improve this team in nthe short run is obviously smoking same stuff BM was when he signed kovalev.
We can't compete with the elite teams in the league and will not be able to until we draft some elite talent of our own. It's as simple as that. We should be looking to trade guys for draft picks and propects, cause this group is going nowhere fast.
PG
Anyone who thinks this team has any chance whatsoever of making it past the 1st round of the playoffs is insane. Very likely top 4 seeds: NJ, Pitt, Caps and Bruins. Which of these teams would the Sens have any chance of beating? So what's the point? Do you all want to watch the Sens for 4 more games enough to sacrifice the chance to draft a game-breaker type player?
@ anon 9:54 AM
Do you really think that it's worth while for a team who can make the playoffs to throw the rest of the season so that they can get a higher draft pick, have you seen how many fans abandon the team after a bad loss?
If the team starts losing on purpose than no one will go to the games which results in no revenue for the team, no revenue for the team means no more team in Ottawa.
I fail to see how that is helpful. The fact of the matter is, whether or not we make it past the first round depends largely on if we can begin playing as a team on a consistant basis, I don't care who we play, if our players stick together we have a good chance of winning.
Dave
great post dave. just goes to show that blow outs happen all the time. and murray should go no where. his drafting has created a D corp that will be unreal and cheap in years to come. wiercoch, cowan, and erikson!! come on people think about how much that will free up for money to our big names. it's brilliant. and while we watch kids like winchester and especially regin who is playing top minutes in his first real season. and shannon as well. these are smart, low drafts that the sens have carefully developed. doing a great job murray keep it up.
yea the score was bad, but putting it in perspective, the sens were not playing to win by scoring once alfie went down, they were playing to win by physically beating the shit out of the penguins.
Speeza for Jeff Carter ??
Same question but for pittsburgh, washinbgton, etc.. etc... etc...
@ anon 10:26 AM
Dave
Merry Christmas to you to Chirp
:)
Relax people. It's just a game, the world is not ending.
I'd like to apologise for all my stupid comments and personal attacks on other commenters. I'm a bully and I promise not to do it again.
SM
10:26
Move on.
@ Dave
Yeah but none of those teams lost their Captain to a vicious but legal hit.
to all the people suggesting to pull the plug:
you have all got to be fucking kidding me.
last year, carolina was not even in the playoffs in december. they put in a solid run. not to mention fired their coach. also, Rod Brinda'mour was having an atrocious year. they didnt have a stalwart in the back end.
Pulling the plug when we are still in a playoff spot is absolutely stupid. can't believe a team's own fucking fans would suggest that kind of idiocity. go seriously shove a broom up your asses and watch the toronto maple leafs if you want a team that needs to pull the plug ALL THE TIME.
miss the playoffs= increase the number of ass-faced fans that show up on this forum= give the same idiotic bigger crowd of fans a further reason to bail on the team and not buy game-tickets = become the phoenix coyotes of the northeast = NO TEAM IN OTTAWA
word is Daigle is coming back after the spangler cup...they think it will at least help sell tickets
Not much to say? Didn't our Captain go down last night? Kind of a big deal...
@ anon 11:54 AM
I fail to see how that fits into what we were discussing. Alfreddson would likely be back in time for the playoffs. So if we were to make it, his injury now wouldn't matter with respects to playoff performance.
Dave
Anon @11:21
Why would you mention Toews among Crosby and Ovechkin? Hall is better than Toews and he is a world class prospect.
This team is doomed, unless Murray can pull something out of his ass, Losing the captain and Spezza long term means no offence to go along with our mediocer defence at best...LeClair will have to steal games after the break, and I know tonighht was first game back, but it wasn't a good start...
12:37
I mentioned it because of the teams he mentioned. Why would you mention Crosby ahead of Malkin? Didn't Malkin win the Conn Smythe last year?
Thanks for pointing that out though Mrs. Hall.
Yeah Dave we have character but we don't have guys that can put the puck in the net consistently and we don't have a great "D". Leclaire is shakier than a jumping bean in nets.
I'm hoping we only lose half our games with Alfie out, that would be a major turnaround.
Merry Christmas all!
Good lord...
well i finally got my sens jersey so i better see sum changes fast from this team or imma be pissed
merry christmas chirp thanks for the site keep up the good work
we have 6 more wins this year after 37 games. we could make the playoffs I would rather dive and pick up a draft pick. right now Toronto has a better team and that really bugs me,
According to TSN, the team knows what Alfie's status is right now but they won't tell the public til x-mas is over.... very curious and hope it aint serious!
Merry Christmas SC :) - have a great day!
Happy Holidays Chirp...Thanks for keeping us talkin'!
Go Sens Go....!
lets just think of the next couple of weeks as a chance for the younger forwards to develop and work out the kinks with lots of ice time. i assume the wait on alfie's means its like a monthish. haha orrr on the other side of the spectrum it means season ending surgery and he wants to get to enjoy his family time before dealing with the media. fingers crossed thats not the case, the end of alfie's career would be fantastic if he can do it with minimal injuries nagging him.
merry christmas sens fan and SC.
BAD NEWS !
Alfie will be out 6 weeks
Anon 10:47PM it's obviously serious. That's why they are waiting. If it was good news. They would announce it and call it an early Christmas present for Sens fans.
I'll tell you right now at the least it's 2-4 weeks. I bet in actual fact it will be announced as 4-6 weeks. Might even be worse than that but my hunch is that it's 4-6.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone here on SensChirp and JC!!
Glad Team Russia legitimized all the Kovalev haters feelings by leaving that lazy bastard off their team.
My 2 cents.
Joel
merry chrismahanakwannazika chirpsy. Sens still got this, jah willing
