Get Well Soon Gerber

(UPDATE 10:51 AM)- Thanks to all of you who pointed this out. It seems as though Gerber's injury is not as bad as they originally thought and his recovery could take weeks instead of months. Great news for Gerber!

Read this story over on the HF boards...

Very scary incident involving former Senators goaltender Martin Gerber in a recent KHL game over in Russia.

Gerber was hospitalized after suffering a serious neck injury in a game on December 13. He was taken off the ice on a stretcher and apparently suffered a compression fracture in his cervical verterbra.

Gerber is expected to be away from the game for at least 6 months and could spend the next two months in the hospital.

Martin Gerber was a terrific team player with this organization and it's just awful to see this happen to such a nice guy.

Just wanted to wish Gerber all the best in his recovery.

Good Luck Gerbs...

There's an update on that site Chirp directed us to read. It says that the injury isn't as bad as first thought, and that recovery will take weeks not months.

Update: It looks like the injury is not as serious as originally thought. He should only be out weeks now not months.

"According to the doctors, Gerber's recovering will take weeks and not months. Thus there is no need in searching for a new goalie. However, this is not 100% clear," said Atlant's GM Andrei Verevko to Sovetskiy Sport.

Gerber was always a class act here in Ottawa. He never complained or said I want out of this mess. It's sad to hear that he was seriously injured in a freak accident. He may have let in a softy a little too often but I admired his class.
Get well soon Martin & come back even stronger.

Swiss goalie Martin Gerber, who was hospitalized yesterday with a neck injury, underwent advanced examination Monday morning. Fortunately it didn't confirm the preliminary diagnosis "compression fracture of the fourth cervical vertebra". According to the new information Gerber has spinal contusion and recovering will take weeks, not months.

"When Gerber was delivered to the Podolsk hospital he underwent examination that didn't show any fractures. Monday morning computed tomography confirmed there was no fracture but rather a spinal contusion," said Atlant's doctor Andrei Bagdasaryan to Sovetskiy Sport.

"According to the doctors, Gerber's recovering will take weeks and not months. Thus there is no need in searching for a new goalie. However, this is not 100% clear," said Atlant's GM Andrei Verevko to Sovetskiy Sport.

All the best Gerbs. Hope he can recover for the olympics, he is a great goaltender and a fantastic professional, just never found his game in ottawa. He's always played inspirationally for the swiss and i hope his rehab goes well.
