Fan Forum-Highlights

Had a chance to listen to the fan forum today and here are a couple of the things that stood out from the call.

ON INJURIES

Bryan Murray opened the call by talking about injuries. They expect Pascal Leclaire and Chris Neil to both potentially return for the Dec. 23 game. Shean Donovan skated this morning apparently and is apparently a couple weeks away.

As mentioned earlier the injury to Nick Foligno is a slight tear of the meniscus and will keep him out a couple weeks.

ON PROSPECTS

-Murray also talked about prospects a little bit and in particular the three players that will play in the World Junior Tournament. Murray talked about Andre Petersson who he described as a hard working Alfredsson type player.

-Murray also mentioned Team Canada defenceman Jared Cowen and said that they fully expect him to compete for a spot with the NHL team next season. Patrick Wiercioch was expected to make the team as well but suffered a slight MCL tear that kept him off the roster.

ON VOLCHENKOV

-On a Volchenkov extension Murray said that they have had just one brief conversation with the Volchenkov camp and that's as far as things have gone. They would love to keep Volchenkov in the fold though

ON BRIAN LEE

-Murray also touched briefly on the Brian Lee situation. The Sens GM said there have been no discussion with the Blue Jackets regarding Lee and that there is no interest in making a play for Filatov with no guarantee he will return from Russia.

Lee is currently in Ottawa rehabing a back injury and is hoping to return to action with Bingo on the 26th.

ON THE SALARY CAP

-Murray also said there is no plan to place Jason Spezza on the long term IR for cap relief. Ottawa is pretty tight to the cap with all the injuries right now and that had a lot to do with not calling someone up after the injury to Foligno.

Team President Cyril Leeder also talked at length about some of the changes announced today for season ticket holders. For a summary of those changes click here.

Why not place Spezza on Long term IR to get the cap relief? What is the downside to doing this?

SensChirp said...

From what I understand you need to be out 30 games and then insurance helps cover part of the contract.

Murray was a little vague on how this worked.

Anyone know for sure?

he SC, check out the poll on the espn.com NHL page. they are polling for the canadian team with the most talent. although you can see that the vote is clearly skewed with obnoxious fan bias because apparently Mtl has more talent than ottawa. YEA RIGHT. but the most hilarious part: THE LEAFS ARENT EVEN ON THE POLL!!!! HAHAHA

leafs suck
sens rule.
end of story.

Based on what BM has communicated there is really no reason to keep him around for the rest of the season.

- He's not looking to add or replace any of the current squad

- he's not pursuing any of the available players who would fit inside the cap - like Filatov

- he hasn't started negotiations with Volchenkov

What exactly is his plan ? Nothing that can be effectively communicated at any rate.

Nothing here that would make me commit to spending $3500 on season tickets again.

Just me I guess, but I'm tired of BM's lack of action on problems he has already identified

Ryan said...

Not sure about the 30 games for LTIR -- wasn't Cam Ward on it?

Have to comment on that ticket changes. Nice to see they are making changes to season tickets while still leaving out the other 95% of people who can only afford single game tickets.

Anyway, I live on the East end of the city and despite all of the complaints, I actually don't mind the drive out to the extreme West end of the city to see the game. I don't even mind the ridiculous parking lot experience after the game. No, what bothers me is the ridiculous price of tickets that for some reason over the past couple of years has skyrocketed. They implemented this premium pricing crap (which I know they've had for a while but this season it seems to have gone to the extreme), so that instead of having sell-outs for the big games and lower attendance the rest of the time, they just have lower attendance for every game. It smacks of greed, I think it's fair to charge a premium on some games, but the increase they implemented this year was absurd especially when you consider they missed the playoffs last year. Management needs to understand that this isn't Toronto, you can't feed the fans crap and then expect them to swallow an increase in ticket prices too. Get the ticket prices right first, then start coming up with these fluffy season ticket holder incentives.

Queech

Last year most people identified the major problems as being

1) Goaltending
2) Puck Moving Defenseman
3) Lack of offensive scoring depth
4) lack of farm depth

1) He traded for Leclaire and picked up Lehner with the pick from said trade

2) He went out and traded for Campoli

3) He traded for Comrie and was further hampered by the Heatley debacle, but we still added Michalek and Kovalev

4) We have 3 blue chip defensive prospects in Karlsson, Cowen and Wiercioch

By all means vote wityh your feet and don't buy a season ticket. You might not like some of the moves, but to say he's done nothing is just simply wrong.

We aren't halfway through the season yet, yes there are definite shortcomings this team has but we are a better team than we were last year and there is room for deals to be made later.

Very well said Allan - I'm sick and tired of hearing "fans" crap all over Brian Murray (and Clouston, for that matter).

Murray is doing a good job - lets let him do his job. We'll be on top very shortly!

Dave Young said...

Well said Allan. Saved me from writing a long post. Like SC said a couple days ago. Every day it seems we get the murray haters who ignore the history of this team, and the good things he has done, and simply look at the win column from the muckler days.

I think we will get a chance to see silvferberg and peterson in this WJC to assess forward prospects, and I think with 3 picks in the first 60, we should be able to continue to add to that cupboard that he has been tireless in restocking.

Anonymous said...

As a season ticket holder I am happy with what concessions the Sens made.

The parking goes a long way, as does the reduction in cost per ticket.

I also think everyone wants the Sens to go back to the playoffs! So price freeze in teh first two rounds will be appreciated...

Sens to the CUP!!!

Anonymous said...

Why do I get the feeling the Volchenkov camp wants out?

I mean, there should have been more than 1 brief conversation.

If he is not signed by the trade deadline, they should at least consider moving him and not losing him for nothing.

SBP said...

Queechee, if you have $3500 lying around and you can support the Senators, there are hundreds of Sens fans who visit this site who WISH they were in that position. I can afford only a few games a year but if I could afford a season ticket I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Murray has done an exceptional job at the draft and has addressed the needs of the team in other areas as Allan identified.

I'm not sure why you're upset with the Sens. Look at the standings: tied for 5th, while they're #1 goalie has been out for 14 or so games. They have a chance to win each and every night they play.

Are you a Sens fan or not? Do they have to finish first in the NHL each and every night? Send me your money if you don't want to go, I'll gladly take your place!!!

Anonymous said...

Sorry Allan, I beg to differ you.

He got numbers 1 and 4 done from your list, not 2 and 3.

Anonymous said...

Agreed to the comments regarding Queechee. BM has responded to all of this team's glaring issues. Just because you don't like his moves doesn't mean he's doing nothing. I think he's a good GM, and his drafting has been excellent. I think the hate on for BM is ludicrous.

Matt said...

Quechee just because BM says he isn't looking at trade options or isnt talking to Volchenkov about an extension doesn't mean it's true. It's a gm's job to bend the truth... If he said "we want to trade lee, picard, shannon"- he would lower their value.. So he keeps his mouth shut and works behind the scenes... It's what he's supposed to do

Engin said...

I read the article and came to a conclusion. The people hear in Ottawa are fricken cheap and spoiled. Also pissed that they have had free slices of pizza a lot less since the 2007-08 season.

Anonymous said...

Can anyone tell me what BM is really doing ?

hq said...

hmm....just wondering. maybe murray has some minor doubts about signing volchkie and to compensate was asking for Ladislav Smid in that oilers trade that never happened?

i still think they shouldnt have a problem signing volchkie. he doesnt seem like the kind of guy who will let term and amount get to his head. unless he has the same douchebags as agents that heatley has.

Anonymous said...

Del Zotto > Karlsson I wish Murray and co would stop ignoring the league that plays in their back yard.

Anonymous said...

Queechee...
Murray won't trade for Filatov. He is playing in Russia now -- under contract -- so won't be back in NHL this year... if ever.
The trouble dealing with these young Russian players is that if they don't get their way and play in NHL the way the expect to.. then the run to the KHL. I say stay away from any young Russian player....except Volchenkov of course... It's still early. I think Volchy wants to stay here.. they will try to work something out. He's too valuable to let get away... I trust Murray will do what he can.
Murray has drafted well... and some of these will be in World Juniors... in two or three years.. Sens will be stacked with good young talent coming out of US college and CHL.. and a couple from Sweden

Riaz said...

I hate all the people that are ragging on the Sens... Our team was picked to finish between 12-15 in the east... we are not out of the woods yet, but 5th is way better than 12th...

Let's give some positive support to our boys in red, black, white and gold!!! GO SENS GO!!!

BeJamin said...

Murray has done an excellent job as GM. If you don't realize that you're obviously not paying attention. He also drafts very well and will make our team a contender with that skill.

The Murray haters are obviously the same armchair GM's who think it's possible to go and get great UFAs or big trades that you make up in your head while thinking of only the Sens interests. Rather than the interests of what other teams might actually do & what players might actually want to sign here.

That being said Spezza isn't on the LTIR because you have to stay out X amount of time if you go on that. That means if he were to heal faster than expected he would still have to sit and wait for the full LTIR time period to expire even if he was ready to go. There also probably isn't anyone worth picking up that will fill the gap in the meantime if we go that route.

Anonymous said...

To Anon @3:41,

...and I would disagree with you. I would argue that he addressed issue #2 to the point where he overcompensated and we are now lacking some grit on the back end (thank goodness we have Carkner or we'd be really soft). If you have been watching the games you will notice that for the most part we move the puck out of our zone quite easily now but we are having some trouble dealing with big forwards who set up a good cycle.

As far as scoring depth goes, I would agree that it hasn't improved much over previous years but it hasn't declined either. This year we are on pace to have 12 guys finish with 20 points or more...last year we had 12 guys finish with 20 or more and the year we went to the cup final we had 13 guys finish with 20 or more.

So, overall your perceived negatives aren't negatives but rather are positives (or at the very least "neutrals"). That said with the improvements in the other areas you have to give him a passing grade (I give him a B) at this point in the season.

Great work SC as usual.

Allan said...

Anon @341

No doubt that 2 and 3 aren't the answers I would have liked either, the point i was trying to make that saying BM hasn't tried to address the major problems is wrong.

MV said...

Annon 3:41,

You wouldn't classify Karlsson and Campoli as puck moving defenceman?

And you think depth scoring is a problem with us in the middle of the pack in goals for even with a grand total of 12 goals between Spezza and Kovalev?

Brian Murray has been slowly rebuilding the team. We now have a great future ahead in goal and on defence. All that is left is some forward prospects. Leave him alone

I'm a STH. People are bitching that only STH's are getting a break from this announcement. If you read the entire article, you'd see that incentives for single game tickets are to follow.

And if you're still bitching that it's too expensive to go to a game, then you're broke. Tickets go for as low as $14 (upper 300 seats) and you can take the bus if you think parking is too expensive or annoying.

What bothers me as a STH is that if I bought all my games at the discounted prices being offered for single games, I'd be paying a heck of a lot less $.

Anon at 4:08 - yeah BM can - but he won't and he shouldn't. Cheer for the team, debate line combos and possible trades but let the real running of the team be handled by people who have experience and knowledge none of us do.

As for Volchie, maybe that one conversation went something like this:

BM: Hey Anton - you stayin?
AV: Da.
BM: You gonna hold us hostage for stupid money?
AV: Nyet.
BM: Aight - talk to you later. Keep up the great work.
AV: Vill do coa.., er, Mr Murray.

RELAX people.

What's with Ottawa's understatement of injuries?

Kuba missed 8 games. Was supposed to be a total of 10-14 days.

Volchenkov: Same thing, not as serious as "speculated" and should be out only 2 weeks and ends up missing 14!!!! games.

Neil: EXACT same thing, knee injury but shouldnt keep him out more than a couple of weeks. Missed 11 so far with probably 4 more to go.

I wouldnt be surprised in the least to see Foligno out for a month.

I don't get it, this didn't happen before. I understand there are complications but this is consistent with every injury so far.

A few points

For you freakin BM whiners, BM never advertises what he is doing. If he had it his way, we would know about the new players when they skated onto the ice for the warm up to thier first game. Additionally you will notice that in fact there are relatively few trades going on. All GMs appear to be hesitant/paranoid/handcuffed and so BM cannot force them to trade. Give him time.

Volchie is going no where unless he overprices himself

Ref the ticket issue, funny that the free parking is only for full season ticket holders with at least five years of packages..... i would venture to say those people a. can afford parking b. will be buying season tickets regardless of parking so how does this increase attendance in the short term. Play off ticket price freeze for the first two series is very nice, but if they guarantee extra tickets to package holders (as stated) I would venture to say there will be zero tickets available for the general public.

Either way, I am an avid fan who does not turn my back nor haul out the the cheese with my whine just because of some bad games. We are still in a playoff spot even with all of our injury issues since the start of the season and I will continue to buy my packages regardless. So to the whiners,.... STFU and go cheer for the leafs or habs you freakn losers.

One thing I'd like to point out, BM APPEARS to be great a drafting. Fact is none of his picks have had time to reach their full potential. If his pick haven't had time to develop, how can we assume his plan for the team has?! By this I mean every GM has a plan for the future, and with this team that future is not now. Give him time people, he is doing well.

Don't get me wrong.. I like Murray, however... i think his time is simply up, what ottawa sould do if they were smart is hire a new GM and keep murray on as the chief of scouting. he's clearly good at seeing talent in young players.. as for the ticket prices.. if you dont like them, stay home, go to a bar and stop bickering! I'm also positive that Murray has had more than 1 chat with Volchies camp, however mentioning that would create a rediculous media frenzie and we woulndt hear the end of it... he probably wanted to make it sound like it was on the back-burner so nobody would bring it up every time.. And lets be seriousm murray ALWAYS makes a trade.. every year. im sure this year is no different, probably after the olympic break though.

On pace for 94 points. That's pretty much *always* been enough to make the playoffs. It's a long season and Spezza is hurt yada, yada, but you could argue we're on this pace with Spezza, Kovalev and Cheechoo under achieving to this point and Leclaire missing a bunch of games so ...

Strange that posters on here criticize Murray for not taking a run at a Russian player who defected to the KHL. I suspect those same posters would criticize him if he made that deal because it would be for a Russian player who defected to the KHL.

Ross said...

I like how lots of you guys assume its "posterS" that are "ganging up" on murray or "all suggesting filatov or souray trades", when in relaity its the same guy who doesnt know what he's talking about posting anonymously then agreeing with himself an hour later- its sort of obvious.

Ross said...

Oh, i almost forgot, I generated a list of all players Murray has ever drafted who became at least NHL regulars, and it's pretty impressive, I'll be posting that monday probably after i double check to be sure im not making mistakes. He's hella good.

Honestly, I think a team would be wise to bring in brian murray and brian burke as a tandem GM team, they already built one cup contender...much as i think Brian Burke sucks and will never build a winner in TO on his own, with murray pointing out real talent burke could use his skills at picking free agents due for big seasons to put the finishing touches on a team.

Allan said...

Ross

That's a neat idea haviong the Brians in tandem, of course it would never work in Toronto - they don't have any draft picks.

Anonymous said...

Ross, the only problem with that plan is that there's way too much ego to go around. Burke has enough ego for two people alone, so Burke and Murray together would be like having to balance three GMs which would be a nightmare.

As for all the comments about Murray, the problem that people seem to have with him is that he hasn't managed to bring win-now results. While those are nice there is a period where the team needs to adjust after what Muckler left in the farm system. There are some teams in the league that have a "we must be in a position to make the playoffs all the time" policy, which is great, but they rarely win anything big with that mentality (think St. Louis for about 20 years). They do enough every year without actually getting enough to push them over, because every year they are drafting in the middle of the pack. The teams that do well are the teams willing to take a big hit for a couple of seasons, build up some picks and then rebound. We saw it with Pittsburgh, Washington, we're seeing it now with LA and Chicago. Of course there are teams that seem to be do well every year like Detroit and New Jersey but they have some of the best management teams in the league and have managed to ride the wave through solid drafting.

Ottawa didn't do a full rebuild obviously, they still had some pieces to work with, but Murray hasn't gone with a complete win-now mentality and that seems to annoy some people. There's nothing he could do now or in the next couple of years to take what assets we have and turn them into a Cup, don't you think he would do that if it was possible? We need to wait for some development before we can seriously start talking Cup run again, and that will take time. The worst part about a GM's job is that most of the benefit of your work isn't felt until you've long since been fired. The GM is working for today but also for 10 years down the road, and that isn't noticed or appreciated very much, especially during a rebuild.

Hi there,

I officially gave up with making money with websites beginning 2010 when I decided to take another approach to making money and not working for a boss. This is when I met James aka 'The Prophet'. James is good at mathematics and he has applied his skills at trading penny stocks. I started trading alongside James and so far I'm having great results. I initially invested $100 which has now grown to $180 in just over a month. How is that for a great return? I invite everyone to join the program and receive daily trading instructions directly in your inbox. You can even give James a call. You don't even have to know how the stock market works. You can get trading within an hour, PennyStockProphet Join the proram, it's risk free, you receive a 2 month money-back guarantee. Just thought I'd share my 2 cents worth.

Hypnotherapy is really a psychological think (point out hypothesis) or set of attitudes and beliefs (non-state principle) usually induced by a treatment referred to as a hypnotic induction, and that is frequently composed of the series of preliminary instructions and strategies.[1[[]|]|[]|] Hypnotic recommendations can be delivered by a hypnotist during the presence with the subject matter, or may be self-administered ("self-suggestion" or "autosuggestion"). Using hypnotism for therapeutic reasons is referred to as "hypnotherapy".

The words 'hypnosis' and 'hypnotism' each derive from your expression "neuro-hypnotism" (nervous rest) coined through the Scottish surgeon James Braid all-around 1841. Braid based his practice on that designed by Franz Mesmer and his followers ("Mesmerism" or "animal magnetism"), but differed in his hypothesis concerning how the treatment worked.

Contrary to some well-liked misconception - that hypnosis is often a form of unconsciousness resembling sleep - contemporary analysis suggests that its in fact a wakeful state of focused attention[2[[]|]|[]|] and heightened suggestibility,[3[[]|]|[]|] with diminished peripheral consciousness.[4[[]|]|[]|] In the very first book for the topic, Neurypnology (1843), Braid described "hypnotism" as being a express of physical relaxation accompanied and induced by psychological concentration ("abstraction").[5[[]|]|[]|]

How does our unconscious thoughts have an effect on our every day daily life?

The unconscious spirit merchants all of your memories, reactions, anything that has ever occurred to you, even if you don't possess a aware recollection of it. It really is like a giant storeroom of your respective past.It also controls our bodily functions : breathing, heart rate, digestion and shape temperature.

Hypnotherapy brings us into an altered state of awareness, wherever the mindful brain is ready to take a much-needed break with the unceasing chatter on the head. Our brain waves transform to the alpha condition. They slow lower just like when we are just about to fall asleep at night. At that time, we have allowed our entire body and thoughts to sluggish lower. The intellect reaches a heightened state of focus and clarity.
conversational hypnosis http://www.conversationalhypnosis.learn-hypnosis-online.info/ conversational hypnosis
Each person's knowledge in the hypnotic practice will likely be diverse.

A single item that's for selected is people's expectation with the course of action is really a main aspect in creating an perfect room for switch. The critical will be person's willingness and capability to surrender to anything new. By means of the hypnotic progression there is definitely an possibility to learn concerning the deeper aspects of you and unlearn ingrained habits to get a far extra beneficial outcome.

The truth is that we are in and out of hypnotherapy all day prolonged. A hypnotherapistacts like a facilitator for change in essence the transformation comes from within the client. All hypnotherapy is self-hypnosis.Hypnosis occurs in which there exists a shift within the state of brain. This shift in mental talk about delivers the ultimate room for letting go of limiting thoughts. Despite the fact that significantly misunderstood, hypnotherapy is usually just what you need for creating effective change within your everyday living.
