This Keller move makes sense if that trade of Picard and Shannon for Barker is true. They need another forward (Keller) to replace Shannon, but not another defense because Volch is back (I think he is).

That or Murray is giving him a shot because he is lighting it up in the AHL.

Brian Lee is not on the roster on Senators.nhl.com....Kind of strange considering that Brodeur and Keller are posted on there!

Anonymous said...

Very interesting that Lee isnt on the roster... If Lee goes and Picard stays I'll lay an egg. 10% offensive productivity doesnt make up for 90% defensive gaffs.

hq said...

yea but why is fisher out today? surely he isnt getting traded SC. or are you hearing rumors of Fisher getting traded?

A fisher trade right now would be blasphemy.

hq said...

anon@11:18

Brian Lee hasn't been on the website roster since the season started. i think the reason for that is because he was sent down from camp and the roster coming out of camp is the official roster.

Anonymous said...

But why would Brodeur and Keller be on it?

tcharger said...

Fishers value is at an all time high right now...trading him if that is the case(spill the rumors if they exist please!!! would be hard to swallow, but there is absolutely no way he keeps this pace.

What does Nashville have to offer us?? LOL

hq said...

my bet is the fisher has some injury, thats why keller gets the callup. clouston in his presser yesterday said "i hope so" when a reporter asked if fisher would play today. fisher left practice early to prompt the question.

btw. i dont know if any of you caught it. but even after getting a lower body injury from his hideous habit of slew footing people, Ovechkin still tried it numerous times against ottawa. including one on fisher on the same play the puck hit Leclaire on the bench. sometimes i just hope someone gets up, doesnt care about the instigator or game penalty and gives a good punch to ovechkin and puts him out a week or two.

SensChirp said...

Its an injury, guys. Not a trade haha

CMI said...

Trading Fisher would be the stupidest thing the Sens could do at this point.

Sounds like he got injured in practice.

hq said...

yea....i know SC lol.

i misread your post and sorta overlooked the BOLD UPDATE NOTIFICATION.

realized it after reading it over again.

my bad guys for jumping to a trade rumor conclusion. no way this guy gets traded. he is bomb for us and winning us games.

HQ, I agree. Fisher went down odd on that play and they seemed to beat up on him on Monday. He probably is sore and needs a game off to heal..hopefully not really serious. We need him!

Anon 11:33,

Not sure why Lee isn't on the Sens site roster page but he is on the NHL.com page

any A train news ? we need our other goalie in the line up

Anonymous said...

Is Kovalev back? If he is, why do we need Keller when Shannon or Regin would be taken out? One of then would replace Fisher.

Anonymous said...

holy geez, Kovalev not back yet!?!

Also, Cheechoo on the 4th line again...looks like he is stapled there...I will say this about Cheechoo, he works hard, but he is an AWFUL skater, the guy can barely stand up he is always falling or losing his balance - ALWAYS....count tonight how many times (even though he will only get 7 min of ice time)

Anonymous said...

is fisher def out tonight? ottawa citizen has him as questionable

hq said...

ouch....shannon on the first line.

would much rather put someone who has been scoring goals on the first line. they should give cheechoo or keller the shot at the first line.

man. come on clouston. put this team OVER THE HUMP. hook spezza up with someone who can finish plays man. no offense to shannon but since when did he become a finisher.

Anonymous said...

yikes, not really liking that lineup

Anonymous said...

Fisher getting traded wouldnt be all that bad, especially with his value right now, that would bring in possibly that #1 D we are waiting for!!

But it aint gonna happen.

I think NJ lights Elliot up tonight, not looking forward to the month ahead.

Yikes!

Leclaire: Gee Fish! Good going, shooting the puck right at my mouth. Now ive gotta miss 4 semaines!!

Fisher: Im sorry Pascal, I wasnt aiming for your face, I was aiming for Kelly's. And you shouldnt be texting while on the bench, you should know that.

Leclaire: I know I know, Its my fault

Fisher: Well to be fair, I'll miss each game you miss, Deal?

Anonymous said...

Really, you'd prefer Cheechoo over Shannon on the first line? Have you watched the past few games?

Hanrahan said...

Fisher, Picard, and 2009 1st and 2nd rd picks for Weber! Would you do it??

Anonymous said...

Chirp, if tonight Elliot lays an egg, will Ottawa purue a trade for another netminder? Also, anymore on the Hawks rumour? Chanks, Clint

Anonymous said...

Oh my god. How quickly people jump to the "Fisher's being traded" angle. Unbelievable. You guys have no clue.

Anonymous said...

Dammit! What's wrong with Fish?!

Anonymous said...

Is Volchenkov playing tonight, Chirpy?

Anonymous said...

As difficult as it is to digest, Cheechoo is our only true finisher now. He needs Spezza and Spezza needs him. Play him on the top line with Michalek so Michalek and Spezza can cover the backchecking to make up for Cheechoos slow skating. Keep the Winchester Regin Shannon line together, they were fantastic together. Im stumped as to a center for Alfredsson and Foligno though...

Anonymous said...

Online blog tonight chirp? The Sens/Caps one was awesome!

Anonymous said...

Fisher has one of those No Movement Clause thingy's, so even if Murray was crazy enough to trade him Fish would have to approve first.

What happened to Fisher anyway? He looked pretty good at the end of the last game..

tcharger said...

Is Volchenkov back tonight?

Anshu said...

I actually like those lines, provided Shannon and Regin play like they did last game.

I think changing at least one of Spezza's linemates is a good idea, just for the sake of change. The last couple games that line has not looked as good defensively, generally being outplayed by the opposition's top lines.

Anonymous said...

What is going on with Kovalev? Is he hurt as well? I thought he went to russia for a funeral on sat morning, SC is that the whole story??

JoeDoggs

Anonymous said...

maybe Fisher could not get over yet for being responsible for Paskal's injury and this is bothering him that's why he can't play? lol

Anonymous said...

Does anyone know if Kovalev is back from Russia or not? Any source?

I think Alfie should sit down and work on skates with Cheech. Maybe he isn't fully comfortable in his equipment. I remember Alfie a year or so back making a huge change in his game by going through like 30 some different kinds of skates in a season until he found the right one. At a 3 mil salary I think Cheech can afford to tryout different equipment. Never know.

As for shannon being on the top line it is just a reward for playing so well the other night against washington. I am glad Clouston is rewarding him for his good play. He does tend to have a hard on for this guy but at least this time he deserves it.

You all must remember if things don't work CC will change the lines in game. If anything all this line juggling should create huge chemistry among everyone. Especially considering everyone is working as a team lately. They all seem to be pulling the rope in the same direction this year and finally the last few games it has been paying off.

I think we should give CC a little credit.

Eric said...

Hey, Anon... you lost me at "Cheechoo is our only true finisher"...

Anonymous said...

Funny how people here keep questioning Clouston's line combinations lately, yet they are winning....have faith.

Shannon probably deserves a shot on the top line considering how well he played against the Caps. He will bring excellent speed and skill on that line. I like the 2nd line and the opportunity for Regin to play with Alfie. This will be good for him. 3rd line rocks and the 4th will get like 5-6 min total.

Can't wait to see how Keller plays though.

Anonymous said...

If you think that is a good trade, trading Fisher, Picard and the next 2 years 1st round picks your retarded...Maybe if they send their 1st round picks in those years back, maybe its a done deal...I mean I hate Picard, but Fisher is a 2nd line centre and what would be a bottom 6 d-man and 2 1st round picks for what would be a #1 D man for us? Get real...

kinda wish the brodeur we had was the one we're gonna be firing the rubber at tonight. look out for parise. this guy is on fire and is somehow still flying under the radar of a lot of teams defensive plans.

Anonymous said...

Man oh man Is it ever difficult in today's NHL hockey, for a team to have 4 set lines !

We are now at game 22, and once again, because of uncontrollable circumstances , Clouston has to realign his starting lineup again !!

After such a nice winning streak, we are gonna hit the road on Saturday, play Boston and I hope some guys are back, otherwise, we are gonna have a tough road trip !!

If somehow this team continues to win, it is simply because they have more depth than we give them credit for !!

GO SENS GO !!!!!

Just because Keller was tearing it up in the AHL. It doesn't always mean that Keller is going to score in the nhl level. As for the Cheechoo debate I'm 50/50 on it. Yes putting him with Spezza and Michalek again could help regain his scoring touch again as well as his confedence. Let's forget that Cheechoo has made a few blunders lately.

Anonymous said...

I am concerned about the PP. Michalek-Spez-alfie works fine, but what's the second unit? Foligno Regin and neil with Shannon at D? That's not going to scare anybody.

hq:

Spezza isn't capable of carrying the puck right now, nevermind passing it. Have you watched the last game?

He has his own issues to resolve before Clouston can even help him out...

I hope its sooner than later cause looking at the lineup for tonight and we are prime for the killing if he and Alfie don't step up...

Freddy said...

Things that need to happen tonight:

Elliot: Solid game

with Fisher gone:Spezza and Alfie need to step it up

Other than that it should be a win tonight since the BJs played last night.

kovalev will be back tomorrow.

SensChirp said...

Yep Kovalev is expected to be back in Ottawa at some point today and hopefully ready to go tomorrow

Fisher out kinda makes me realize how weak this team is at centre.

SensCP21 said...

looking forward to having kovie back and seeing even more line combos. what are we upto so far this year? 16 098 different combos. good job by clouston i think to be constantly tinkering to find something that clicks.

Anonymous said...

Wow, Sens are in really tough tonight against the Devils with all the injuries they have.

If Ottawa somehow manages a win out of this, or even a point for that matter, I'd be really happy.

Anonymous said...

I was afraid Kovie defected, no they don't do that anymore.

mgd said...

if he's back today, why can't he play tonight? We are paying him aren't we? Around 5 million...

Why is Cheechoo on the fourth line? If you want to get this guy going, you have to put him in a situation to succeed.

I thought he looked good with Spezz and Milan.

He gets criticized about his skating. It's funny, because a couple of weeks ago two players were inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Hull and Robitaille were knocked throughout their careers because they couldn't skate.

They were late draft picks. But, when they were put in a situation to succeed, they could put the puck in the net.

Cheechoo is not Hull or Robitaille. But, he has shown that he can put the puck in the net when put in a situation to succeed.

We need to put him in that situation regularly. It's not like Spezza has been getting points with Alfie anyway.

@BR,
Try googling UStream. It's not bad for streaming games, but sometimes they won't have it up. It's worth a shot.

No more Fisher trade talks. It makes me throw up in my mouth a little bit.

Go sens 2-1 road victory tonite!!

I dont know too much about Keller what do you think we can expect from him tonight ?

Anonymous said...

hard night ahead I don't think they will win but I would love to see the efford put in lets not be to hard on them tonight guys.

news just in Fish an Lee traded deatles www.ouruoutofyourmineottawafans.com

hq said...

people need to stop putting the sens down so much against the devils. while its true that missing kovalev and fisher from the lineup, with leclaire out makes it tough. but other elements on this team have been playing strong. especially the D has come around quite a fair bit over the past two weeks. the PP is clicking somewhat and they are really good on the PP again.

im sure Fisher being out gives Regin a great opportunity to step up. and being hooked up with Alfie gives him a bonafide chance of impressing. ditto for Keller.

lastly Elliot is no slouch. sure you can always depend on Brodeur to steal this game for NJD. but I think Elliot should be able to keep us in it too at the same time.

Word on the street is Fisher stubbed his toe on one of the new green bins when he tried to punt it off his driveway.

November 25, 2009 12:14 PM"

Take out the picks, I dont think they are nescessary, but I would do this in a HEARTBEAT! ALthough I think you can even remove Fisher and add, either Regin or Kelly, even Neil. This is def a possibility!

Wow Weber in Ottawa, im drooling right now.....

For anyone wondering why if Kovie is in town why he is not playing obviously hasn't done much international traveling, anyone have a idea what time it is in Russia right now?

Anonymous said...

It's time for Spezza to step-up. He needs to take control of a game or two for this team to get through this tough stretch. He needs to get it going already.
