Roy Mlakar on OTR

Former Senators President and well respected hockey man Roy Mlakar was just on Off the Record with Michael Landsberg.

Not sure if anyone caught it but there was one question particular that caught my attention...Here is the exchange that took place.

Landsberg: Who do you think the Senators fans hate the most? Alexei Yashin or Dany Heatley?

Mlakar: Alexei Yashin

Landsberg: Really? Still?

Mlakar: He walked out on a contract...

Landsberg: And Dany Heatley...?

Mlakar: I think some day we'll find out the real truth on that.

I know this has all been beaten to death but it very interesting to hear that answer from Mlakar.

Other topics included Roger's House, the Blue Jays President position, the siutation in Phoenix and the disgraceful Gladiator performance before Game 1 against the Pens a couple years back. Interview is definitely worth a watch...

WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just as Heatley was become a fading nightmare a comment like that stirs up a whole ton of curiosity. Will we ever get to know the underlying truth of what happened there?

Partly my fault for posting it I suppose.

Just thought it was an interesting comment from a guy who would know a thing or two about the situation.

Mlakar seems like a nice guy... he was nothing but respectful to the Sens organization and city of Ottawa... It's good to know that he is still involved in Rogers House...

I believe we will all know the truth December 1. That is when the Sens play in San Jose against Dany boy and the Sharks. Judging by the comments made Commodore and Paddock when the Sens played the Blue Jackets and Flyers. It won't be nice and directed towards BM and the players.

We don't know the real reasons for Heatley wanting out.
But we do know Yashin's motives (100% greed).

In my opinion it will always be Yashin.

Heater and Yashin both left fans high and dry... and both came across looking a bit goffy and silly.

But Yashin had the NAC incident too.

So not only did the actions of both of these players impact hockey fans, but Yashin's actions took it to a different level because it impacted the whole city and everyone in Ottawa - hockey fans and non-hockey fans.

To put it another way, Heater is Rosco P. Coltrane and Yashin is Boss Hogg.

...so maybe Heater did leave because of "Daisy Duke".....doubt it, but I just had to put it in!

Sorry folks. Gonna have to be careful with the comments on this particular post.

Wont allow any specific speculation one way or the other. I'm usually all for allowing people to say their piece but this one is obviously a little more personal.

Just wanted to let people know about what was says in the interview.

Hope you all understand.

We understand and appreciate your professionalism.

Can someone refresh my memory as to what the "disgraceful gladiator performance" is?

Thank you

Rumours? What are the rumours??

Oh well, I guess it doesn't matter anymore. All water under the bridge.

You are right, it is interesting that Mlakar seems pretty forgiving of Heatley.

I don't mind Dany wanting to leave Ottawa, but to dictate where he went is a separate issue.

Sour grapes.

ok
i agree with you SC on your last post
but my overall view is that mudslingers are in the end dirtying their hands by slinging the mud, no matter their thrown mud hits the target or not.

in this case, Mlakar is being a mudslinger. ofcourse, he is dodging it diplomatically enough to mimic schumacher cutting corners in his f1 car. but if you look at the whole background of the issue and put all the pieces together, i think Mlakar is slinging mud at the senators organization.

with all his merits aside, and im sure he has done a ginormous amount of good for this organization. i think he could have just deferred or given less of a flaring answer to Landsberg's question. he could have given a low key answer without alluding to whatever underlying unkown truth there is to the heatley trade. this team is trying to move on from the debacle this summer very hard. you can note it in each and every player's ethic (k, maybe not kovalev haha). but still. Mlakar being just recently let go, is opening a can of worms that doesnt need opening. sure everyone would love to know the deeper story. but then what? what if he really was banging some player's wife? then what? there is enough shit flying around from what everyone knows about the whole deal already. you have melnyk wanting his 4 mil back. you have every fan complaining about wilson hosing BM by putting cheechoo in the deal. you have possible tampering allegations simmering low right now.

i really think Mlakar could have done the senators organization a small favor by not answering that question in a way which only incites more frenzy about an issue which truly for the senators organization is done and over with. what benefit is to any senator's player, and/or organization member of what Heatley's real reasons were for asking the trade.

not to mention, his answer is totally not relevant to what the question was. landsberg's question was who do the senators fans hate more. not why did Dany Heatley ask for a trade and by extension what dirt do you have to throw around so more people watch my show.

disgusted. plain and simple. whatever the reason for heatley's trade, i as a senators fan am happy that he got let go. the guy has an attitude problem. he was involved in vehicular homicide, which everyone over here will agree doesnt go over as smoothly as it did for heatley. not to mention, this city embraced him as if nothing ever happened, along with this organization and all his teammates. he basically spat on the second chance that the senators gave him and the way they followed up on it with a humongous deal which made him the highest paid player last year. regardless of whatever people say about cheechoo, you know him and michalek will come to play every shift, every game, every night, every practice.

lost a huge amount of respect for Mlakar.

Mlakar made me forget everything he said when he said Lalime was the best goalie the Sens ever had lol

whats worse was sportsnet comparing what the edmonton players who would of been sens if not for the no trade fiasco you no its been a sad start for Cheech when Smid has more points than him.
And has missed games with the pig flu.

Sour grapes or not, it's peaked my attention. I just hope, whatever ***IT*** is, it comes out one day. It would nice to know the full story.

Anonymous said...

I really hope his story is "I'm Dany Heatley..I'm a 50 goal scorer. I didn't want to play Clouston's system"

That would be egotistical enough that we could bury it for good.

Any other dirt...mark my words....you probably don't want to hear.

The last thing we need right now is *more* stuff tearing the room apart.

Mark my words.

I have to say, I dislike Heatley a lot more than I dislike Yashin. I actually liked Yashin, even after the holdout.

He was pissed that the hotshot rookie who couldn't perform worth a crap was getting paid considerably more than he was, and that said overrated prospect was quoted as saying "I'm glad I got picked first, because nobody remembers number two" after Yashin was drafted 2nd overall the year before.

A holdout is a little extreme, but considering how the team was treating him, I can understand completely.

There are days I wonder how the Senators would be today if we had traded the first overall pick (Daigle) to the Nordiques. We could have had The rights to Peter Forsberg, Hextall or Fiset + a 1st rounder in 1993 on top of a cheaper, happier Alexei Yashin. That would have rocked.

what the sens should do is bring Ruutu up on one of our top two lines, we need some good news on this team and he can deliver google him, he is holding back because of his roll and he does not want to pissoff the top lines.
He can score but needs ice time.

I think our most pressing need is a top 4 dman. Once the d is stable, the offence will improve. To ottawa: dan hamhuis. To nashville: some sort of combination involving one or more of picard/campoli/shannon/picks

Say what you want about Roy but Ottawa fans should get on their knees & thank him for all that he did for the Senators with a bj.

An American comes to Canada's capital & works tirelessly to make the Senators a respectable franchise. This guy would exploit his contacts & go on nationally syndicated sports radio in the states & talk about this little team.
Ottawa lost a great ambassador for the city, community & of course the hockey team.

IMHO there should be a statue out front of the Palladium/Corel Centre/Scotiabank Place aka the white elephant in Kanata.

PS
Hey Mr. Bryden, can I use your off ramps in order to get to tonight's game???

If an article came out in the paper today revealing all about the Heatley trade request, I'd read it and so would everyone that visits this site. Don't apologize SensChirp.

Look, there's obviously a personal issue between Heatley and the team, speculation is what it is.

Mlakar is an extremely classy guy and was treated like a cashier at a fast food chain, unceremoniously dumped in favour of...Bryan Murray and Leeder.

I love RAM and Tammy, both great human beings, affable and generous to a fault.
Personally, I want ALL the truth to come out, ALL of it. About Emery, about Paddock, about Heatley. Tear the room apart? So what? It's their own fault if they did wrong, let them stew in it.

Mlakar is worth listening to.

Landsberg is one of those people that you want to punch in the
face every time that you hear his voice.

Your transcript of the salient point is well appreciated.

Thanks SensChirp

Is it maybe possible for someone to find the link the interview? I've looked but I just can't find it on the web. I really think it would be an interesting watch.

Cheers.
