Prospect Update

The Senators Twitter feed has posted the prospect update for this week. Here is the link.

Jared Cowen had a big week for the Spokane Chiefs, registering 4 points in 3 games and a +7. Patrick Wiercioch also continued his strong start to the season. Hes got 9 points in 10 games with the University of Denver.

A couple of people had been asking if the Senators might take a look at Michael Nylander off the waiver wire but Bob McKenzie is reporting that he has cleared today. Not sure Nylander really would have fit in Ottawa anyways.

I think Nylander would fit on the Sens as a good second line center. He could play with Alfie.

He's a creative playmaker. But, the only way it would work for us is to make a trade offer to the Caps.

Kovalev for Nylander. They both are 36 years old. They both have two years left on their contracts. Roughly the same cap hit. A change of scenery might help both teams.

Kovalev might play better on a team that has fellow countrymen like OV and Semin.

Just a thought. Not likely to happen. But, I'd do it. It's not like either side is taking a risk. Two underperformers.

I think if you traded Kovalev for Nylader the Caps would have to send back a pick (2nd or 3rd) as well.

that's a terrible suggestion, Nylander is done...Kovalev is a much better option than Nylander

Murray has been awfully quiet. Let's hope that is is still working behind the scenes....

BTW...I still FKN hate you Wilson. Did he ever hose Murray on that deal. It's like he knew Heater was only going to be a shark....maybe a little collusion there?

Gotta add Boston to that poll SC. I absolutely hate the Bruins, they always got our number.

anon @ 1:05:
considering that the caps really liked having Fedorov last year only to have him leave for Russia for greener pastures, that kind of trade might work for both teams.

however, i don't know if its really a one for one deal in all aspects. Kovalev does have game changing ability, Nylander is not known for anything like that. However, he might turn Alfie and Fisher into scoring wizards on the other hand.

Maybe late in the season BM can look into it.

Nylander is done. Next.

yea..i think its just best to keep kovalev here
no need to make the caps any better than they already are lol
let them have fun fitting that 5 mil salary in their already jammed cap space situation.

If Nylander had anything to offer the Caps woulda found a way to put him in the line up they want nothing to do with him for a reason.

I said this on another board, trade Kovalev into retirement for Forsberg.

yes Murray got hosed (more or less) but not by Wilson - Murray was hosed by Heatley and his agents and by whoever made the deal public

Any real trade rumours? like why havn't we got rid of Brian Lee or Picard? they wont play in a couple years when all of our talent come up so why not get someone good now before there shitty play kills their value

Thanks and great job on the Prospect update!

I wonder if Murray considered emergency recalling Cowen when Volchenkov went down. I know Murray hated sending him back to juniors as he thought he was NHL ready. His knee seems to be better then ever (knock wood) and he would look really good in our top four alongside Kuba.

Hosed.

I would if I was Melnyk be looking in to that trade, It is clear to all of us that Heatley was going to SJ why because Heatley has a freind of his fathers working for them, SJ and Wilson told Heatley stick to your guns Murray will crack and we all know what happened next. this deal really hurt this club for a loong time to come Cheechoo still has 2 yrs left on his contract. Ya if you asked me Wilson hosed us big time,

Cowen's kicking ass and taking numbers at both ends of the rink. People scratching their heads when ottawa took him sure won't be in a couple years. He's exactly what the doctor ordered for this club.

It's been a while since I checked your site, and I know this relates to your previous post, but I for, one would definitely like to see Spez and Kovy together on a line, and I'd like to see Cheechoo get a shot on the wing. We know he could finish in the past, we've just got to give him a chance to get in the groove, especially with two guys who can thread the puck like those two. I agree michy would be a good fit as well, and has developed some chemistry with spez, but would like to see cheech get a chance (even if he hasn't really earned it thus far) Just my two cents.

Not sure i agree with the "hosed" comments.
Ya Heatley definitley cost us some added assets that could have been acquired on top of what we got, but the fact is, Heatley is pulling in 7.5 mil and a lot of us considered that too much for a one dimentional player.
I actually like Michalek @ 4.25 better since he can play in more situations and has great speed and work ethic.
I know he wont put up the same numbers as Heatley, but he brings other stuff to the table.
Sucks we had to take on Cheechoo at 3Mill, but i guess we can still hold on to hope, that he can contribute down the road. Who knows, weider things have happened.

Foppa's not coming back to the NHL to play for a dysfunctional organization like the Sens. He'll go to a contender or back home to Colorado.

Although still a bad contract, Cheechoo only has 1 year left in his contract after this season, not 2
http://nhlnumbers.com/overview.php?team=OTT&season=0910

I could see him being waved or bought out at the end of the year.

Murray did not really have any time off this summer. Heatley took allot out of him I'm sure...

@JR

Isn't Cowen inaccessible to the Sens for the rest of the season? Once sent down to junior, that's it. Maybe I'm wrong...

I would start trading for picks, I like what was posted yesterday about sending Alef to Boston so he could win a cup go after there 2 frist rounds they got from Toronto. it would be hard to watch but we could start to rebulid

anyone who even suggests trading alfie is not a true sens fan in my eyes

anon 3:17

that is the stupidest comment ever! have you seen Boston's roster at the present? they aren't getting out of the first round, IF THEY EVEN MAKE THE PLAYOFFS!!!!!!!

mike brodeur named AHL player of the week... any chance he'll be getting the call up to the big leagues?

i wouldnt advise any trades right now, unless Murray can somehow trade Kelly and Campoli. and thats about it.

Its a bad thing to say, but maybe Cowen's knee injury was a blessing in disguise for us. this guy was slated to go Top 5 in the draft before the injury.

anyone listen to Clouston's take on the penalty trouble? he says we are not too undisciplined. don't know what to make of it. what do you guys think? SC?

hq,

I wouldnt say the problem is with the calls being made against Ottawa. The Senators have made some stupid mistakes and have paid the price for it.

My problem is that those same mistakes dont seem to be getting called when the opposition makes them...

Thats the issue I have with the officiating.

Oh my freakin lord!!! Anytime a player is put on waivers, an army of douchbags have to come out and criticize Murray for not getting him.

And the stupid Forsberg rumours, Christ! It's like clockwork!

I bet if TSN reported that Lance Pitlick wanted to come out of retirement and play again, a bunch of dumb asses would request that half of our D be traded for him.

How did those idiots even figure out the internet...?

Alfie is Sens for life. As much as he wants a cup, I am not sure he would want to do it with any other team.

Go Alfie Go

Where will Brendan Shanahan resurface? He still has goals left in his stick.
