Sounds like the worst case scenario for Pascal Leclaire and the Ottawa Senators.
Leclaire suffered a fractured cheek bone last night and will be out at least 4 week as a result. As I mentioned earlier, Mike Brodeur has been recalled in the meantime.
Just brutal luck for Leclaire.

Elliott has 1 regulation loss in his 7 games played.....very underrated, get well leclaire and keep lighting it up Elliott...it's not like it's Alex Auld in between the pipes
time for elliott and broduer to shine bright!!!!! are we using broduer against broduer..?? that would be hilarious....get better soon pascal
GO SENS GO!!!!
The Sens play 16 games in the next 4 weeks. That's 20% of the season.
Make or break (clearly it's break for Leclaire).
PL
No offence, but LeClaire need to take a page out Randy Cunneyworth's and Alfie's book and suck it up and play through a facial injury.
I hope you are all kidding...
Elliot is not a #1 goaltender and looked pretty weak vs the Sabres & Washington.
But what choice do we have, we cant spend money to go get a #1 when Leclair is only out 1 month...
This is exactly what was N
OT supposed to happen, why do we have such bad luck...
SM
Engin - No Offense but Alfie's and Randy's position doesn't require them to take mutiple 90mph shots to the body for sixty mins a night. I imagine if he did choose to play the first one he takes off the mask would put him out. Use your head (pun was not originally intended, but i like it)

I expect we will see him back sooner than 4 weeks. It's so unfortuante that this has to happen during the absolute busiest and most important month of our season. Ridiculous bad luck for Sens Fans. The Refs hate us enough, now this. I vote he wears his mask 100% of the time even when sitting in the backup seat once he comes back. Elliot is good, but he's no Leclaire. This is going to be tough. Even worse that he will lose all his timing and have to rebuild that all again. Just our luck.

This is the worst news. Sure put me in a bad mood
Engin,
It's a little different when you are a goalie and pucks are intentionally shot at you. Oh wait, you might be a leafs fan and not know what a goalie is ;-)
Have to agree with Anon 12:27. I don't think Elliot is a #1 goalie either and we'll be hard pressed to stay in the top 8.
Hurry up and get better Pascal.
Engin:
If he's getting surgery, you have to consider that there will be major inflamation, a pretty severe immune system response which will cause major fatigue, and he'll be on major pain killers for at least 1-2 weeks.
And goalie masks may not be adjustable for that type of injury since they don't fit the same way as player helmets
My guess is he won't be out a month but it'll be at least 3 weeks.
I think that Elliot will do fine. He is a lot better than Gerber and the only issue is whether he can play all of the games and this guy Brodeur can play a couple of games.
You've got to feel bad for the guy. He seriously cannot catch a break...well...not the right kind anyway.
Elliot will be fine! he was great last year. Adversity only makes us a better team guys.
Wow that sucks. Not even playing and he gets hurt. Brutal.
It's been said a bunch already, but you can't play through something like this as a goalie. Your mask simply won't protect you enough, and it's not like he's bruised or something. He needs surgery. Time for Elliott to prove his worth, they're going to need him at his best.
It is just a month I think if won't hurt the Senators chances of making the playoffs and I think the glass is still half full!
I think the team will rally around this! Thank god the A Train will be back soon aka goalie #2
To all you people saying Elliott isn't a #1 goalie: well obviously. That's why they pay him and use him as the back up.
But we all knew that there could possibly be an injury to Leclaire (though I doubt we all thought this kind) and we put our faith in Elliott when we resigned him and traded Auld.
Elliott made some huge saves last night, especially one where he came across the next and stopped a shot that was heading for a wide open net.
You pessimists need to lighten up a bit and have some faith in this team.
I believe Elliott will do well for us in the next 4+ weeks.
The overhead camera clearly showed that he was texting. He should forfeit his salary while injured and the sens should get some cap relief!
I knew they should have played him every game so he wouldn't get hurt.
Uh oh. Elliot is pretty good, but he can't play every game. The fact we will play Brodeur scares me a lot. He plays ok in the ahl some nights and then let's in a ton of goals other nights. I guess we have no other options right now though.
ahhh leclaire wasnt playing that well anyway.
Agree with others that the way a goalie mask is designed (touching the goalie's face) will make it hard for Pascal to come back early. That said, he could temporarily switch to an Osgoode-style helmet. That would give the necessary cushion. They were all the rage in the day.
It is what it is, and the Sens will have to suck it up and not let this set-back knock them out of the hunt.
Just finishing my thought:
Sens play 16 games in the next month including 3 pairs of back-to-back games. 11 games are against playoff teams.
This will a huge test for the team.
PL
Ok Elliot I can keep the faith in. What is the story on brodeur though? Figures it's during such a busy time in the schedule. At least we will get volchenkov back to block some 8shots per game.
Leclaire's injury is part of a master plan to give Mike Brodeur some nhl games, Chicago will be watching, then trade Barker for Brodeur and 2nd pick.
I'm not going to wirte off the post season just yet - although my optimism has been dimmed - but we may be in trouble at least for the rest of this week.
LeClaire - out
Kovalev - probably not yet for Wed (according to Clouston)
Alfredsson - missed practice, nursing something
Volchenkov - not before Saturday earliest
Fisher - left the skate early - Clouston said he'll 'probably' be OK for tomorrow.
It's looking pretty rough against NJ!

Leclaire talking to the media about the injury.
i've actually seen brodeur play in some ahl games and he can stand on his head and save a game singlehandedly.
elliott will be fine he has proven that last season
Maybe the coach should have a rule about texting on the bench, had Leclaire been paying attention maybe he could of used his blocker or something.
Texting? he was talking to one of the trainers on the bench, douchebag.
Oh well, at least he stopped it.
In the words of Tom Barrasso: "You want me to stop the ones that aren't going in too?"
Yes, Tom. Yes we do.
Elliot obviously isn't a #1 goalie yet, but he is close. His biggest problem seems to be his rebound control. To be honest, the past couple games he has played I haven't even noticed that many bad ones. I think we'll be fine, especially with the A-Train coming back. Still waiting on Spezza to figure out what he's doing...
big opportunity for Elliott right now - time for him to show what he can do
Maybe make a deal for Huet??
BM should put in a call to Long Island and try to deal for Biron. He's being paid peanuts on a one year deal. Look at it as cheap insurance.
I completely agree, I never saw the video of him actually texting, but if he was thats rediculous. Any hockey player knows to keep their head up on the bench to avoid that exact situation.
Who ever started the rumor that he was texting... wack... he had his gloves on...
Texting, hehe
We should sign Kevin Weekes!!
Definately not the olympics at this rate...

this really does suck because leclaire was just getting back into his groove and now hes gonna be out a month. Then hes gonna come back and let in more soft goals till he gets back into his groove again.. Thank God Volchenkov is back!! hes like a another goalie. Look on the bright side though the way elliot played last year at the end of the season by outplaying alex auld i think we should be fine but for once i would like to see the whole team healthy :(
ps: defense is playing amazing boys and girls!!
....F......M....L.
Just read that Toronto is actually holding up the Barker to Ottawa trade potential.
here his the blog entry from http://committedindians.com/ its like Senschirp for the Hawks.
just go on this site and its the 1st entry.
-Joel-
@Anon 5:15 Interesting... thanks for the link
Apparently, he was relaying message to the Trainer's wife via text message. Murray spoke about it on Toronto radio today.
Guaranteed Leclaire is back in 3 weeks, these types of injuries arent as bad as people think.
Engin, your a stupid idiot, probalby do nothing all day and collect a pay cheque from Daddy....You are actually retarded and need to keep your mouth shut because you don't know what your talking about....Seriously, stop writting on here, were all sick of your stupidity and retardation...
I wrote a joke last night about how it was SC's fault that Leclair got injured because he was using his phone to participate in the live blog...
If this is the basis for this being repeated...I RULE!!! :)
Anonymous 1:21 PM - Your comment made me laugh, I like your optimism.
Also, this comment from Leclaire made me laugh "but this one, it’s so bad that you almost want to laugh about it. ", from the Ottawa Senators website. Poor guy has had some bad luck. Hopefully he heals up quickly and we can get him back into this busy part of our schedule. Its bad timing and will really test Elliot. I liked the look of him last year as the team really seemed to rally around him. Leclaire did say that the surgery will still alow him to skate and workout so he can stay in shape. He'll probably need 3-4 games to get back into gameshape when he returns. Then we can finish the season on a tear and reclaim top sot in the NE.
Go Sens go!!
I find it a little disconcerting that so many fans are prepared to forfeit the season because our starting goalie is out for 4 weeks.
I would have thought, for any of you paying attention, that you would have seen the potential in Elliott last season. Elliott is still developing yes, but he's not far off from being a starting goaltender in this league. His talents and attributes are one simple measure, the other is the fact that he carried his NCAA team to a championship.
We have 2 starting goaltenders right now, and one (Leclaire) is a little further along in his development.
So try having a little GOD DAMN OPTIMISM.
Our team is different than last years team, our system of play is way different from the majority of last season and we should all have a little faith.
So try being more positive.
Finally, Mike Brodeur will get his shot at the big leagues! I'm so happy for him!
Enjin has a point. Clearly, if you saw the way he was rolling his eyeballs after taking the puck, it was obvious that he can't take pain - he's like Hasek that way. Neil would just have just shrugged it off and gone out for his next shift.
Everyone chill the fuck out. They'll be OK.
Chirp, could you do a feature on the dude that always wanted Mike Brodeur to be called up? Because the dude's dream finally came true.
Jinne and Engin should just be banned from posting here......
Can't take pain? you get a puck to the face and have your cheekbone break and see if you can take the pain you morons.
SC, letting these idiots post these comments just makes you seem like an even bigger idiot for allowing it....
It's not my job to control opinions.
All I can do is ask people not to swear and to avoid attacking other posters personally.
Sorry man...
Man people are so quick to jump down people's throats in here, we all cheer for the same team right?
@ Info 8:52pm
There is a big difference from NCAA and NHL my friend. Elliot is no where close to being a NHL starting goalie.
He won a couple games last year when the Sens decided to play well, but when Sens dont play well he is not the type of goalie that will steal you one. Sens will have to play damn good with Elliot & Brodeut tandem for 1 month +.
SM
Anon @ 12:23,
I've hit in the face by a puck, a rock, a softball, and soccer ball when was in high school. Every single time my cheekbone was broken and I didn't miss any days of school and went to phys. ed. class. I can take the pain.
Anon @ 5:57
LMAO at your comments about me.
this to both Anon @ 5:57 and 12:33. How is about the two of you grow a pair and start posting comments with your name and not with the anon title.
Engin, get a job you dumb ass...Obviously all you do is sit in front of your computer all day...Make your parents proud and get a job or maybe you have a job and are getting payed to be on Senschirp all day....shame on you....
Chirp, could you do a feature on the dude that always wanted Mike Brodeur to be called up?
I still think that guy IS Mike Brodeur
and if so...
GOOD LUCK MIKE BRODEUR WE ARE COUNTING ON YOU
SC, letting these idiots post these comments just makes you seem like an even bigger idiot for allowing it....
Goalie masks are fitted
they are not designed to account for chipmunk cheeks
not to mention the fact he would have to be bouncing and skipping around the crease
even if he was able to man up
the painkillers would definitely weaken his game considerably
this is pretty much why hockey teams have backup goalies
Here we won 4 games in a row, and yet people are back to the Chicken Little predictions that the sky is falling. The overreactions on here are getting downright absurd, not to mention embarrassing to even read.
Sens called up Keller this AM...is there a forward hurt now too?
Hey Chirp,
Looks like Ryan Keller has been recalled from Bingo. Any word if this is a precursor to a trade?
Yeah, 'cause making phys. ed. class is the same as playing an NHL game. You've been hit in the head far too often.
