The Ottawa Sun is reporting that Jason Spezza will likely sit out Thursday's game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Clouston has classified Spezza as "doubtful" for the game against the Lightning.
The good news is Anton Volchenkov. Sounds like the injury isn't as severe as they first thought and he will miss somewhere between 10 days and two weeks. There was some concern he could be out as long as a month so this is a pleasant surprise.
Here is the link to the article from the Sun...
And here is the prospect update from the Senators Twitter feed...

First!
Posted in another comment section but thought it was worth reposting.
I am also in agreement that the sens need to shore up the back end. We need another experience top-4 Dman (someone with some offensive ability), even when volchie comes back. I hope we can reunite the Michalek bros.
Just curious, can someone tell me where I can get a Halifax style donair in Ottawa??? not a shawarma or gyro, a real halifax donair.
Spezza should take a page out Alfie's and Volchenkov's book and learn how how play through the fucking pain of a back injury or any injury for that matter. Spezza is starting to gain a reputation of milking injuries. Prime examples are the chest injury in the 05-06 season which actually take 10-14 days to heal and the mild groin in the 07-08 season in which he took about 19 days off.
I would not mind seeing the Senators getting Milan Michalek brother.
I would not mind seeing Murray get Zbynek Milhalkek and Taylor Pyatt in a package deal.
Anon @ 1:25 PM,
No offence but no here gives a damn about a Halifax style donair. This a blog to talk about the Sens and rumors about the Sens only. If you want to know about where you can a Halifax style donair in Ottawa, go check out 411.ca or check the yellow pages.
Engin - you know he's milking it? Really?
Can you provide us all with the 649 numbers for this Wed too?
Why the f*ck would you risk re-injuring your #1 centre by making him play through an injury?
Honestly, stupidest idea ever. Let him rest, and make sure he's 100% before coming back. It's allready been said, it's a nagging injury. He tried playing through it for the last few games he was in, maybe it's time to just rest.
Here's wishing Spezza and Volechenkov a speedy recovery.
Man, this team really misses Spezza. All of you haters who blast him should look at the difference he makes when he's in the line-up.
I'm starting to get a little worried that this injury is alot more serious than simple "nagging". Hate to say it, but I have a feeling surgery is looming.
What is a Halifax style donair?
Anon @ 1:25..
LOL, I've been looking for one too..
I know there is a Greco's in a gas station in Stittsville, I am yet to try it though, and don't even know if it's the same Greco's as in the east coast, but they do use the same logo, so I figure it has to be affiliated in some way.. Other than that maybe Hooley's on Elgin? They are an East Coast bar...
i don't think Engin is hetting enough hugs from his mommy
Engin, don't be a prick bud. Also, your logic is stupid. Playing Spezza through an injury that he already tried playing through, just to aggravate it thus causing more issues. Not a very smart idea. MAYBE if we were 10 games left in the season fighting for a playoff spot... but 12-13 games in? No, no.
- oO Karlsson Oo
omg, i would kill for a halifax donair, that sweet sugary garlic sauce calls my name late on saturday nights
best place in halifax for a donair... dairy deli by the dalhousie campus
go sens, michalek is killer, get his brother if he's got the same work ethic and toughness
a halifax donair is a donair that taste better when your drunk on keith's!
seriously, i'd like to know too?
and lay off Spezza! how many guys to the haters want to run out of town?
IF they play like they did for the last 40 against Atlanta, they should beat the Lightning without Spezz.
when is alfy's 1000th game and who is it against..i'm pretty sure it's this season...if it is...wow, go alfy go.. 1000 games wearing the red and black..
For the people wondering where they can get a Halifax Donair......I just recently got a flyer in the mail from a place called "Centretown Resto Bar" and right on the front it reads "Have you tried our famous Halifax Donair" and has a pick of Halifax Harbour, so who-ever lives in the downtown area might want to give it a try.

Never had one myself, but I loves the Ottawa Shawarma! mmmm garlic.
Anyway, hope that helps, and now back to Sens hockey.
Aaaaaaand GO!
Pita Pizzazz in the Rideau Centre had Halifax Donairs before it folded. By far the best donair place ever in Ottawa...the pitas were fluffy, the meat awesome and the sweet garlic sauce was insane.
I haven't seen a donair place where the pitas are non-brittle and fluffy.
Anyway, Spezza's pillow soft so no sense in rushing him pack. Cripes, he's started backchecking finally so let's hope he remembers his defensive game when he comes back.
Im going to start a new blog
"Donair Chirp"
Hmmm...Erik Christensen was just placed on waivers, I wouldn't mind picking up his cheap tab (750K) and seeing him on the Sens.
I think it would be a decent move considering how he would be an upgrade to Cheechoo, and potentially they can have a 20 goal man out of him, and what do they lose, nothing.
Come on Senschirp, use your special powers and get Ottawa to pick him up!
tampa just got busted open for 6 goals by philly
looks good for thursday i would say
lets hope we can put 50+ shots on net again.
mike smith gave up 5 goals.
btw...i dont know if any you guys watch red wing's games. but an ex senator seems to be finding a groove on their fourth line : patrick eaves. good to see him improving. i think he took the trade out of ottawa the hardest. and murray didnt really seem totally convinced on trading him either then. corvo ofcourse...wanted out.
yea christensen on waivers is surprising.
i remember the guy playing in the pens top two lines a couple years back....the way things change...
Hello from Russia!
Can I quote a post "No teme" in your blog with the link to you?
To Anon at 5:44pm:
Alfie's got 56 more games to go before he reaches 1000. If he doesn't get injured between now and 56 games later in the season. The Sens will be playing the Canucks in Vancouver on March 13th.
The next game will be at home against the Toronto Make me laughs on the 16th of March.
Kudos to those of you who don't know what a Halifax style donair is. Here's some porn for all of the fat bastards who posted above....

I am pumped for Wiercioch and Hoffman. Can we call them up now?
The best donair and Lebanese food in Ottawa is in a strip mall in Orleans right beside the Burger King. I haven't been there in two years so I can't remember the name, but it's the first place I went on my last trip home from Calgary. I figure, my parenst haven't seen me in a two years anyway, so whats another half hour.
Picking up Christensen does nothing for our team. Our 3rd and 4th lines are really good right now. Better than they have ever been for the Sens.
What would make the Sens better is getting production from some of the underachievers on the top two lines. Cough cough, Kovalev, cough, cough....
I have nothing against Cheechoo, he works hard and he's responsible defensively but in the end, that's the role of a fourth line guy. For every minute he spends on the top two lines, he's impeding on the productivity of some of our top line guys. I think 20 points in the season is a realistic number, not 20 goals... Play Regin with Spezza and Michalek or, IMO, try Ruutu. I bet that would be interesting.
Letter to Everyone:
Ottawa's "inept" defense played a great game against the Thrashers - you know the one in which they allowed only 8 shots in the last two periods when they helped generate 34 (I think) themselves. This without their #1 shutdown guy. If the they hadn't run into a stupidly hot goalie and won the game as is just in all such games in which one team so clearly dominates, nobody would be freaking out about the "weak" defense corp to this extent.

Tyros is the name of the place in Orleans. Best Damn Shawarma in Ottawa, get extra garlic sauce, and those lebanese potatoes with garlic sauce on them too.
As for the Sens. Winchester seems to be coming along quite well with Bingo. 4 points in 3 games coming off a lengthy injury is good news. I wouldn't be surprised if he is back up with the big team in the next week or so.
Karlsson will most likely stay in Bingo for the rest of the season unless he puts up huge numbers in the first half of the season. There is no point wasting a year of his contract if he is not ready. I see Murray dumping Campoli and Kelly for a Defensive Defense man, once Spezza is back in the line up. That is also the same time frame that Winchester should be called up from Bingo.
