Pittsburgh may be beaten up, but still with two world-class talents in Crosby and Malkin being shut down in the game, I think Sens fans can feel pretty good.
I for one will be the first to give TWO THUMBS UP! to Clouston, I have been very skeptical about his line combinations, but seeing Foligno-Fisher-Kovalev line clicking so well now, I believe we have a great 2nd line.
Hopefully the first line can pick it up a touch 5 on 5 and get Spezza off his slight speed bump, it's bound to happen eventually.
Next up is Buffalo, which will be a very important divisional game, hopefully Sens can win Saturday and ensure at least 7 out of 10 pts possible, and have the chance to go 9 for 10 against Washington.
Once again, GO SENS GO!!! GO SENS GO!!!

First time Phillips has a 2-goal game in almost 8 years. Last time he had one was November 22, 2001 vs. Calgary.

P.S. Could Foligno-Fisher-Kovalev be challenging for the title of "Top Line" for the Sens? I'd say so...
With Kovy gone for a few games I think Alfie has to swap down to play with Fish and Foligno. Cheechoo scoring tonight gives Clouston a reason to toss him back on the first line. Hopefully that will fix the chemistry issue up there.
Michalek and Alfie play exactly the same way and bump into each other 24-7 they need to be kept off the same line.

I'm in Vancouver. I am a MONSTER Sens fan (from Ottawa orig). I couldn't watch the game tonight, but I am very happy about a huge win! Especially Carkner...he really got into that shot from the point!
BUT - I am devastated by the lack of interest in my home town for our Sens. 3,000 empty seats for Pitt, and 2,000 empty for Toronto? I'm speechless.
I honestly don't know what else to say except that I am just stunned and dissapointed. This is a good team! I am not exactly flush at the moment, being a full time student again and all, but let me tell you, I would be at every game I could be if I had the chance.

I know people may think a city like Ottawa has no excuse but we have been overwhelmed with home games early in the year and that has a lot to do with it.

there are too many to name, but my personal three amazing senators this game:
1: cheechoo, his goal made me the happiest. i think i woke up my slumbering senior-filled sarnia neighbourhood with the celebration. not to mention it was unassisted.
2: Kelly. his goal actually was a relief lol. FINALLY he finished a scoring play on a top flight goalie.
3: kovalev: played a game with purpose. not one shift where you could say he loafed. people should just stop beating about this guy. his game is coming around, its fitting and gelling with clouston's system and soon he will dominate like a man possessed. one of the only guys on the sens team who leaves the refs no choice but to give us a powerplay some times. even though the refs fucking want to not give it.
there was extra jump in the first line today. particularly alfie and michalek. they also didnt seem pissed at each other after quite some time (aka bumping into each other). i was really hoping for spezza to get a goal just to get his engines going. but it wasnt to happen. he seems to be going through a partial lull.
great game by kovalev with the emotional weight on his mind though. the donovan injury added soreness to the win. hopefully it is nothing bad and he is back causing trouble as a fourth liner soon. MAN OUR FOURTH LINE ROCKS.

the scoreboard messing around by the scotiabank place scoring people after the dono hit was nice. good rub in. loved it.
neil didnt seem to enjoy that fight in the end so much. the crowd should have backed him up more. his facial expression afterwards was not so enthusiastic as he usually is. sometimes the people in attendance are just....somewhere else and not watching the game i think.

U know what - i'm a montrealer and a huge SENS fan - I always hated Kovalev - thought he didnn't give it every night. But there isno denying that with him on this team - The SENS acm now roll out two lethal lines every night. So let's take what he gives us and cut him some slack. When Volchenkov gets back and if they can ever get another solid defenseman- this team wait for it ...... couldvery possibly take the East. More talent on this team than the one that went to the Cup finals 3 yrs ago.
Glad they got the win. Didn't see the game (thank you TSN2), but glad to see Phillips net a few.
THe reason for the lower turnouts the last 2 games has to be the ticket prices. They were both "Gold" level premium games. I looked at tickets for the Leafs game and they wanted $100 each for 300 level row L!!

That was a great effort from the Sens last night. It was a game where they competed for 60 minutes. Let's hope this can help bring some consistency to there games and get on a roll.

I'm still shocked that Kelly hit the net, I swear I've never seen someone get so many breakways and miss the net or bobble the puck and never get a shot off. Go to see him score.
I thought the Sens were playing a strong game even when it was close there were really going after the Pens.
Leclaire had a solid night not much chance on either goal.
Fleury was absolutely horrible and is the only reason we won that game, 3-4 VERY soft goals. You shit on Leclair when he lets in bad goals and we lose, well this is the same, Fleury plays well, we lose.
Both of Phillips goals were downright soft and Carkner's is a routine stop for Fleury and should of had the breakaway on Kelly, the guy hasnt score on like 20 of em and was just a sof shot blocker side.
But apart from the very horrible goaltending, we played a decent game.

I think the Sens are not giving the whole truth about attendance. There is not an 18,000 average. I am a season ticket holder and have missed only 3 games at home so far, I don't think either of the games I have been at have been over 18k!
Oh well, I think with more games like last night people will be showing up and we will get back on track!

Too bad TSN feels it necessary to send their entire staff to Raleigh, and nobody can be bothered to go down the road to Ottawa to actually provide some coverage of this one. Even if we're stuck with the US feed, at least send someone to talk to the coach afterwards.
If Matt Cook had made that dirty knee on knee play against someone in a blue uniform, it would be a 10 minute segment on sportscentre.
The refs have been absolutely terrible. How can cook lay out that knee, and then picard goes to the box. Carker should have been sent out to take care of that punk Cooke, send the strong message that garbage plays like that wont be tollerated.
On a side note, Alex Picard somehow keeps managing to sit under the radar by picking up a point every now and then, but that first goal was again, a fault of h is. The guy is a total liability every time he is on the ice. Not only that, he averages something like 19mins of ice time.
@ Jacob, hey why not, at least ol Marek could do amazing out of the blue moves in the shootout for us now and again.
This issue with the blown calls by refs and failure to afficiate the games is becomming insane. Why the NHL who pride themselves in allways improving need to have some form of overseer who can review some of these game altering blown calls. Chirp if this kind of thing is going on more so than before i wonder if thier are stats for this?If your good you win..if your lucky you win..but if you win based on bad reffs it makes me wonder what horrors await us in the playoffs?! Whats your take Chirp?

I absolutely agree. It seem whenever we win it is despite the refs. Last night was especially egregious. The "hooking" call on Phillips and the penalty to Picard after the Dono kneeing were rediculous. Not to mention all of the obstructions that were not called against the Pens.
Sometimes I wonder if the refs are betting on games that they are officiating.
Best game of the year by the Sens. Unfortunately, I gave my tickets away. Any news on Donovan and could the league be reviewing the hit Cooke? Will be at the game tomorrow night against the Sabres. Go Sens Go!!!
Newsflash people, go look over that hit again, it was not dirty at all, it was a clean hit, sure the knees hit but he doesn't stick it out at all... It sucks that Donovan got hurt, but stuff like that happens..

i was very impressed with Picard and Camploli. One of them needs to stay on this team to prove their worth it. Lee Also played well, the young guys are coming around sens fans! i no its only been a couple games they have played well but ive been at the last 3 home games and it was very impressive with the young guys. especially picard, hes starting to be a little physical and use his 6 3'' frame.

the foot soldiers are making it happen on this team!!.even though we all rap clouston's line choices and everything. the key thing about his system is that it provides the opportunity for every line to be a threat. and i think as we are starting to see, once the chemistry starts clicking and his system starts working 100%, this will be a crazy crazy team to watch. ofcourse, as fans we reserve the right to being completely impatient too hahaha.
and another interesting fact about last nights game: only picard and carkner played over 16 minutes. the next highest is 15:56 by Phillips.

Attendance is not a problem. Consider the economy, the H1N1 hype, and the fact that the team struggled in recent memory, and you're bound to have some empty seats. The media is trying their best to over-hype this. Everywhere, they are having these problems. Even the ACC isn't full anymore for Leafs games. This is a function of external factors, it has nothing to do with people in town not liking the Senators. Take a deep breath folks, the team isn't going anywhere, and there's nothing wrong with the current attendance levels.
Someone should tell Bettman that is lovers Malkin and Crosby have won their Stanley Cup. Maybe than will see some calls being evened out whenever the Sens play Pittsburgh.

The times you listed are for EV only. Phillips, Kuba, Carkner and PIcard all played 21 min total TOI or more. Michalek and Spezza had over 19 min total TOI.
That said, the TOI was well spread out. Only Donovan (for obvious reasons) and Cheechoo (9:57) played less than 10 min.

Ottawa is 13th in the league for attendance just seen it on the score yesterday. Man im proud of the boys, I honestly think we can beat Buffalo and Washington and maybe even New Jersey. I know thats alot but you never know. last night could not have gone better with the leafs choking the lead calgary getting thier asses kicked(i hate Calgary) and new jersey losing also.(another team i hate) Oh and my dolphins are 5-5 to haha. Maybe Kovalev will play against Buffalo or is it a for sure thing hes going to miss games?
He left right after the game to go to a funeral in Russia. He will miss both Buf & Caps games.
OK, fair enough Sens fans...I understand. It's just tough to see empty seats when you're on the other side of the country and you'd give your third nut to be there and watch the game in person.

I thought everybody on the Sens played a great game. That Kovy, Fish, Foligno line played spectacular! The only exception was Spezza, he seemed to be lacking something. He's definately in a slump/injured right now but atleast the teams winning despite it.
That said, The Pens probably played thier worst game of the year, this was a gift and anything less than a win would have been a disgrace.
As for the fans, I'm atleast hearing Go Sens Go chants while watching the game. That is encouraging, even though they're uneven, choppy and last 10 seconds. I understand times are tough, attendance is down everywhere. I'd still try to make a few games if I lived in the Ottawa area, but sadly I'm a poor student in Toronto.
