Prospect Updates

A little while back I posted a poll to see what features fans would like to see added to the site and the majority of you picked Prospect Update.

I'm working on getting in touch with some people that can give us in depth reports on some of our prospects but in the meantime, the Senators Twitter feed has been posting a weekly update on all of the Senators prospects. I have posted the link below and will try and pass it along each Monday.

This year's first round pick Jared Cowen has had a solid start with the Spokane Chiefs of the WHL. Cowen has put up 3 goals and 4 assists in the team's 8 games and by all accounts has been force on the Chief's blue line.

Patrick Wiercioch has had a solid start to his season at the University of Denver, racking up four points in six games.

While the reports on the players aren't detailed, its a pretty handy way to keep track of Senators prospects during the season.

The NCAA ranking sidenotes are VERY misleading as the ranking refers to the college in the USA Today poll and not the actual players. I was pretty thrown off by that and don't see the benefit of having that on the sheet. -my two cents worth.

This is great - thanks 'chirp.

Would be awesome to have some more in depth notes as well if you can swing it. Even if it's just some Bingo resident who sees most of the games giving their 2 cents.

Not to be too nit-picky, but wasn't the majority vote for a Message board?

SensChirp said...

Surprisingly no. Prospect Updates was out front with Message Board/Chat Room coming in second.

Not sure if a Message Board would work but we have tried a chat room in the past.

If anyone has a suggestion for a Message Board feel free to share it with me. (sensrumours@hotmail.com)

Why create a message board? hfboards owns this market. The topic of discussion should always be what Chirp posts. Keep on doing what your doing chirp, I always come back for more.

Hey Senschirp, just one question... On the sheet, it said that a guy named Ryan Keller, a right winger has scored six out of nine games. I'm don't know about you but isn't that amazing points per game percentage?

Why hasn't he come up in the senator's radar to make the big club? Or why hasn't the media said anything about him?

Thanks senschirp for such an awesome blog!

Hey Bill,

Yea Keller came over from Europe in the off-season and was expected to provide scoring depth for the AHL team.

Hes off to a great start down there though but is still a ways down the depth chart.

Thanks for the kind words!

Speaking of updates, I see Winchester has a goal and assist in 2 games so far (same as Zach Smith in 9 games). Anyone heard more about how he's doing?

Good find. Referring the the previous post it's just like I've said. We will do very well maybe 75/25 or 80/20 vs. teams we are supposed to beat and we will 50/50 the more competitive teams in the league.

So far Ottawa is 5-0-1 vs. teams that did not make the playoffs last year.

We are 1-2-1 against teams that did. That's 3/8 points or almost 50% of the points. With Leclaire in net stealing a few games that's going to be very helpful for us against the better teams. When Kuba comes back t improve the PP to around 12th-15th we'll be much better in that department. Go depth go!

Hoffman has been amazing for the Saint John Sea Dogs. He plays the point on the PP and is one of the most exciting players in the Q this year. Great all around player who has a quick powerful shot and great hands - if you get the chance to see them play he is definitely worth the price of admission. Very excited to see him coming up to the big team in the future.

Okay, as much as I hate the Ducks for bullying away our Stanley Cup, since they're playing the laughs tonight let me just say ...

Let's go Du-ucks! Let's go Du-ucks!

Lehner had his first (presumably) scrap the other night with Soo.

LOL

The Ducks just keep giving me more reasons to hate them. Can't even beat the stinky leaves.

While it's nice to talk about our prospects. I have to bring up the defense again. Campoli I think is done on this team. He's the oldest of the 3 defense man the team have to decide to keep. And has the least amount of upside out of Picard and Lee.

With Kuba back I'd like to see the defense like this

Phillips, Volchenkov
Kuba, Karlsson
Lee, Picard
Carkner

Both Lee and Picard need to prove they belong here next year. So far Picard has done a good job but Lee hasn't been given a chance. And with how the PP has struggled having Kuba and Lee who can move the puck around well and Karlsson and Picard who can blast it would really help. Instead of having a forward playing that position.

Anyway as for Prospects how is Lehnar doing? (sorry if I spelled his name wrong) He had a great camp and preseason and I wonder how he's doing and if he's going to be representing Sweden at the World Juniors?

Chirpy...you da man.

Go Chirpy, it's your birthday. Gonna party... :p

NEWSFLASH: Environmental Disaster. 20 Ducks dead in Anaheim, CA. Cause is listed as severe embarrassment.

Hey Devon... Picard over Carkner? Not happening. And where is Campoli on the depth chart? I think thats a little off.

Hey Chirp, I read the rumors about Horton being shopped. Ive always wanted to see him line up on the right side of Spezza and watch him go. What do you think We'd have to give up?

WillyJ said...

I think Picard is too slow...I'd keep Campoli as 6 man and let Picard watch and work on foot speed. I think the only reason Picard has looked better this year is because he plays a bit more conservative. Put campoli with the right partner and i think he'd be a step up on Picard.

To acquire Horton we'd likely have to give up more than we'd like but I'd offer Kelly, Lee and maybe a prospect to see if they bite.

Our ol' buddy Randy Sexton (he wouldn't lie to the media, would he?) has said in several different interviews that Nathan Horton isn't being shopped to anyone and he hasn't considered dealing him.
