The Senators will look to return to their winning ways tonight when they host the Tampa Bay Lightning at Scotiabank Place. The Senators had their three game win streak halted at the hands of the defending champions on Monday night and will look to get back in the win column tonight starting at 7:30 PM on TSN.
Looks like the Senators will have the same lines as Monday with Peter Regin again missing the game with an upper body injury. According to Brent Wallace's Twitter, Ryan Shannon will be in the line up while rookie Peter Regin will again sit out.
Michalek-Spezza-Cheechoo
Kovalev-Fisher-Alfredsson
Foligno-Shannon-Neil
Ruutu-Kelly-Donovan
Filip Kuba remains out of the Senators line up and there is still no update on his status. Some have suggested to me that he hopes to be back for the weekend but obviously nobody has been able to confirm that as of yet. (Clouston said this morning he hopes to have Kuba back for Thursday's game)
The hope is that Peter Regin and Jesse Winchester will both be ready come this Saturday.
Pascal Leclaire will start in goal.

The silence about Kuba's injury is normal in today's NHL.
GO SENS GO!
After watching last game I think it might be a good idea to split up Phillips and Volch to give some support to some of our younger D.
Interesting article on someone I respect as a hockey guy:

Easy win 5-2 for Ottawa
Lighting have been good this season, I don't think it will be an easy win.
I'd give the nod to Dono over Winchester any day. Why are people so high on this guy? Grossly over-rated
With Regin and Winchester due back soon, I wonder what Murray will do with the excess forwards....
I hope Karlsson takes his game to a new level...the head to head wtih Hedman should bring out the best in him.
Clouston said Kuba will skate tomorrow or the day after.
He'll hopefully be back in next week's game against the Predators (Thursday).
Anyone look at Penner, Cogliano's stats this year... Damn!!!!
Maybe the sens can learn from the TBL power play tonight... they've been lighting it up so far.
i garantee you guys clouston has been working on the power play after last game, and if given the chance , we WILL capitalize on them tonight....clouston just doesnt dink around
I understand were missing regin, but winchester??, since when has this guy become valuable?? Hes a guy that will score below 5 goals a year and is pretty useless. Id rather donovan play anyday as he brings energy to the club
I would have to agree with the idea of splitting up philips and volchenkov to help out the younger D.. I'm a fan of having a good defencive D with an ofensive D.. seems more resposible that way.. but.. It is hard to split them to up.. they are un a roll right now!!
I also dont know why people rather have winchester over donavan.. Donavan is the shit!
It will be a good game tonight, but the Sens will get a victory. Go Sens Go!!!
Watch Campy over try again tonight and get worse...I feel for the guy...it's all Kuba's fault! "Erik" must feel like a kid on an Island.
Saint-Pascal wins the battle of the Frenchies in a thriller!
I totally agree with "C" and Anon 12:21. What's the deal with the Winnie over Dono argument??
Dono over winne any day/time of the season. Winne is alright but since when is he higher on the depth chart over Dono?!?
It's because of his one way contract I'm assuming, but let's try and trade this guy over anyone.
4-3 in a shootout tonight for the Sens
Go Sens!
I think people seem to forget that Winchester, although doesn't score many goals, is great along the boards and the PK and will throw his weight around.
To me I see him as Kelly's soon to be affordable replacement.
I hope they keep Donovan in the lineup.
Also, I like having Alfy and Kovalev paired up. I predict some chemistry there tonight.
Cheechoo gets his first (and second) tonight.
The reason people want to see Winchester so badly is probably because of a few reasons. He's affordable much more so then a few of our other fourth liners. Also with him and Regin back Clouston can easily scratch someone who's not playing like they should. And having Winchester play games is the best way for Murray to move him, Kelly, Ruutu or whomever. Cause Murray will know that he has a good replacement center/winger in Winchester waiting in the wings.
I agree that holding on to Winchester should allow us an attempt to dump Kelly and his contract at the earliest opportnity.
Our PP will be fine - settle down people.
And isn't it nice to have so many quality forwards that we're debating over who to play rather than worrying about who to protect?
Depth is wonderful kids, please don't be in a rush to trade it all away.
I wouldn't be surprised to see the Sens win tonight, but it won't be easy at all. The mentality that this, or any other game for that matter, would be easy, is a very dangerous mindset to be in. Let's hope that it's only some fans engaging in this and not the team themselves.
If the Senators come out tonight, stick to their game plan, and work hard for 60 minutes, then there's no question in my mind that they'll win, or at least they'll have given themselves every chance to win. Tampa doesn't have the depth or goaltending that Ottawa does, so that's what it comes down to.
I predict a 3-1 victory for Ottawa if all goes according to plan.
y dont we just get rid of Winchester.. hes not going to score more then 10 goals this season.. hes a waste
Kelly > Winchester any day of the week!
Winchester is useless, he may be good at holding the puck along the boards, but he isn't no Peter Schaefer in that regard...
I say we package Winchester, Zubov and Campoli for a experienced 5th or 6th Dman
3-2 Ottawa tonight, but its going to be a tight game for us to win...
TB is greatly improved on D with Ohlund and Hedburg on the backend
Donovan > Winchester > Kelly (due to salary)
bram - it's not all about scoring goals. And really, the guys making what? 550k? Why get rid of a useful guy who's not costing us anything and has some upside?
We don't need to "get rid" of anyone. If we get a good offer of prospects or picks for one of our forwards then great, we have the depth, but there's NO RUSH people.
I don't understand the Winchester bashing going on here. I see that our fourth line has been stellar, and, at this point, it's impossible to determine who he should replace, but it seems like a large number of you are writing Winny off. Last season there were many games where Winchester was by far the hardest working forward on the ice, he digs for pucks, back checks and throws the body, is that not what you want in a fourth liner? I know I was definately entertained everytime he was on the ice. He is a player who I think is grossly underrated, and underappreciated for what he does.

@Anon 2:22
If we trade Jesse Winchester, Chris Campoli and Ilya Zubov for a 5th or 6th defenceman, I will personally lead the angry mob to Bryan Murray's house demanding his resignation as our GM. You'll know who I am, I'll be the one handing out torches and pitchforks.
Trading 2 and 1/4 (Zubov) valuable assets for a depth defenceman? And if he's an "experienced" 5th or 6th D-man, he's probably overpaid as well. That's crazy talk! EA NHL10 does not = actual hockey.

I love the Sens but tonight game will end like the last one Tamp 4Sens 1.
I am in the pro-Winchester camp as well. I don't get the bashing either, it's like some folks think every forward should score 40 goals and every d-man should be 6'5" and do nothing but deliver punishing hits. It's a diverse game, and there's definitely room for Winchester.
What he lacks in scoring touch, he more than makes up for in effort. I think he's probably one of Ottawa's best possession forwards. It's very rare that he'll lose a battle deep in the offensive zone. He's an effective penalty killer, he's not out of place 5 on 5, and if he's a little too ham-handed to play on the PP, so what? That's what we have Kovalev, Alfie, Spezza, Michalek, Cheechoo, etc...for.
On top of this, he barely has a cap hit. Personally, I'd sooner see a guy like Kelly go before Winchester. I feel that they bring the same things to the table, but dropping Kelly from the roster frees up $1.5mm more than if Winchester was dropped.
Either way, the team is playing well right now, so I don't think there's any reason to make a move at this time. If things go south down the road, I'm sure a move will be made, but like I said, I'll bet that Kelly is the one that we'd see go.
I still think BM head is on the blocks with this Heatley deal.
Spezza an Alefredson our lost with out the Heater.
TB 5- Sens 2.
I don't get the Winchester hate either. To me, he was the most-improved Sen over the course of last year. I think over the last ten-games of the year he was one of the better players on the entire team. I see him as a future third-liner, not a fourth-liner. I like Kelly and Donovan too, but I'd take Winchester ahead of both of them on potential alone.
I agree with Black Terror, its complete non sense getting rid ofa guy who costs us almost nothing but gives us much more in terms of diversity. No he isnt your #1 or #2 centreman, we have those already, we need energy guys onthe 3rd and 4th lines. Winnie brings just that, I feel Kelly is the one to go if anyone, his 2mil tag is way overpriced for what he does. He's not even considered a PK specialist anymore.
Anyways I think we win tonight only because we have beaten non playoff teams so far so why not continue the trend.
Sens 4-2
SM
so when both Regin and Winchester come back, who's out? Too me it would look like this in the bottom six.
Foligno Regin Shannon
Ruutu Kelly Neil
Donovan has played well enough to be in the lineup, and if they want to give Winchester some games, who sits out??
4-2 sens tonite!!!
GO SENS GO
Where is Zubov? Haven't scene any news on him....Was he waived or released?
I wonder if Chris Neil will play more tonight. $2 million a year for what he played the last game just isn't worth it. I say trade him. He had issues with Heatley and now it looks like he might be having issues with Spezza.
Ottawa will score six goals tonight.
Thank you.
Anon@6:13,
Have you been reading the newspapers in your Mom's recycle bin again?
Anon 4:15, I think the Leclair trade will ensure that BM's head will stay firmly where it is.
Get over Heatley. He was okay to stay when the team was winning.. but when the losing started and the going got tough he wanted out. He should his true colours. It was all about him. When the going got tough he quit on his team and his teammates. Sure Sens have no one that will score 50 goals this year.. but Sens also have more than 1 line now. They are deeper in forward and hopefully that will carry them throughout the season and into the playoffs. When you can play 4 lines game over game, your star players will be in better condition going into the playoffs.
I also hope Regin is back soon. I really like him as a player. Here's hoping Kuba is back in the next game or so.
I'm praying that Murray starts working on extending the contract of Volchenkov as he has to be signed at all cost. If he isn't I'm going to be one mad hockey fan.
So i see lots of questions about Zubov and where he is at etc. but no answers. Chirp have any insight? Prospect updates is #1 in your poll.....
Side note, if anyone sees an add on craigslist or any other site for sens season tickets (2 seats for 2900$ in the 100 level) because of a supposed relocation to London, don't bother it is a scam. I know its obvious to most but i'm sure there are still gullables around.
K
Zubov is no longer with the club in Binghamton and is currently looking at KHL options.
Last I heard anyway.
good job Michalek nice short-handed goal!
Ray Ferraro is driving me nuts, he's almost as bad as Maguire.
4-0!!!!!!!
Michalek is absolutely flying tonight!
woohooo wat a game im loving michalik hes playing great..scoring like heater but working a lot harder...also karlson is good on the powerplay shooting lots ....hate how they are putting sens down...foligno had a great shot it wasnt as bad as they made it sound
Yeahh baby
This is the best I've seen the Sens play in a long, long time. I mean, not only is it 5-1 right now, but Spezza has thrown some awesome hits tonight...It's like the twilight zone.
And Michalek has me saying Dany who? That's two more short handed goals than heatley had the last two years.
Karlsson is definitely overmatched though...
they got to keep the spezza michalik cheech line together
And then Michalek gets the hat trick!!! I love this guy!!!
What a pass by Spezza...the numbers don't show how well he is playing this year.
yaaaa baby dany who? hat trick baby
SOLID!!!
Probably the most solid game the Sens have played since their 15-2 start in 2007-08.
