On a night where Mike Fisher scored the overtime winner it was an unlikely hero that won over the fans at Scotiabank Place. Matt Carkner picked up a goal, his first in the NHL, and added an assist on the Regin goal on his way to a first star performance.
While some of the big guns struggle to find their games early on in the season the Senators again found a way to win a game that appeared to be getting away from them.
Strong goaltending from Pascal Leclaire kept the Senators in this one and a wicked release from Mike Fisher sent the fans home happy. Next up for the Senators is another home date with the undefeated Atlanta Thrashers.
I know its early and we keep hearing these lines need time to gel but I'm just not sure we have the right mix up front right now.
Playing Michalek on that top line seems like a bit of a waste. Hes the kind of guy that's going to get his chances regardless of who he plays with and his speed game really doesn't seem to compliment Jason Spezza all that well.
When Ryan Shannon is ready to step back in the line up here is something I would like to see the Senators try up front.
Foligno-Spezza-Alfredsson
Cheechoo-Regin-Kovalev
Michalek-Fisher-Shannon
Ruutu/Donovan-Kelly-Neil
I know the Cheechoo-Regin-Neil line was unreal last night but we are wasting Cheechoo a little bit right now. Give Kovalev a guy who can finish on his line so he can keep playing his puck possession game. Put a playmaker like Regin with them and should help both players.
The third line would have amazing speed and should compliment each other a little better than the Fisher-Kovalev combination has.
Either that or throw Kovalev up on the left side with Spezza and Alfredsson.
Just an idea...

I would like to see:
Alfie-Spezza-Kovalev
Michalek-Regin-Fisher
CheeChoo-Shannon-Foligno
Donovan=Kelly-Neil.
I like those, except a few things, Fisher needs to be on the wing, again last night, scored from the wing. Also I dont think Michalek would be usefull o the 3rd line. cheechoo is skating like a brick right now, 3rd line is where he should be until het gets his conditioning back!
So something like this maybe?
Foligno Spezza Alfie
Fisher Regin Kovy
Cheechoo Shannon Neil
Ruutu Kelly Donovan
Kelly is another that needs to go at 2mil, anyon in bingo or even Winchester play his role, whatever it is now (since Spezz, Michalek, Kovy, Regin all kill penalties now).
SM
Sorry I meant:
Michalek Spezza Alfie
Fisher Regin Kovy
Cheechoo Shannon Foligno
Neil Kelly Donovan
Kovalev-Spezza-Alfredsson
Michalek-Fisher-Shannon
Cheechoo-Regin-Neil
Foligno-Kelly-Ruutu
we would have a definate first and second line and two 3rd lines
Cheechoo can't finish. He's done. I'd bench him for Donovan, although since he makes $3 million it won't happen.
I was at the game, but wasn't impressed with Kovalev. After the third time his helmet fell off, he actually stopped to pick it up and put it on, during and Isles rush!
He and Spezza should put on a "skating for relaxation" clinic.
But man-o-man, I love Volchenkov! Sure, he got owned during the one goal, but he is one helluva player!
I think Kovalev needs to play with creative players. If he was on a line with Spezza or Alfie or both like you were saying, I think we'd see better production from him.
I think we can load up the first line (A.S.K. line?) since Fisher, Michalek, Regin, Folgino, Shannon and Cheechoo should provide some combination of a decent 2nd scoring line threat.
Carkner played a stellar game and was quite noticeable on the ice. heres to the home town kid winning fans over on a nightly base, hope he can keep it up all year!?!?!?!!!
Michalek-spezza-kovy
cheechoo-fisher-alfie
foligno-regin-neil
ruutu-kelly-shannon
Michalek-Spezza-Kovalev
Foligno-Fisher-Alfy
Cheechoo-Regin-Shannon
Ruutu/Donnovan-Kelly-Neil
I think that is the best line combo. Last Year, Fisher-Alfy and Foligno was just great together, put them back!!!
hi there so cheechoo cant finish and you would bench him and he skates like a brick and still was one of the three better forwards what are you doing with the rest of the forwards then? you better get out of your moms basement life doesnt suck so bad if you try to get a life. sorry but some of you who are bashing cheechoo all the time are just muggy little cu**s. cheers
kovalev-Spezza-Alfy
Michalek-Regin-Cheechoo
Foligno-Fisher-Shannon
Ruutu-Kelly-Neil-Donovan
Kovalev and Spezza are both puck possession guys. Kovalev needs to be on a line with a finisher as does Spezza. I think I would try Speeza, ALfie and maybe give Chechoo a try.
or
Foligno-Spezza-Kovalev
Cheechoo-Regin-Alfy
Michalek-Fisher-Shannon
Ruutu-Kelly-Neil-Donovan
bahahahaha wow you are dumb...worst lineups i've ever heard of...you are a joke...give up you bum
what about putting these lines together. This would give you great balance scoring
Cheechoo-Spezza-Kovalev
michalek-fisher-alffy
Foligno-regin-Shannon
Donovan-Kelly-Neil
i like ruutu but donovan has been outplaying him or at least i think so.
Michalek-Spezza-Alferdsson
Foligno-Shannon-Kovalev
Fisher-Regin-Cheechoo
Ruutu-Kelly-Neil
pretty sweet lines
In order for Cheechoo to get his confidence back he has to play with top players... I would also seperate Spezza and Kovalev as they are possession players, and I would put Michalek with players that would compliment his speed... that said I would do the following...
Cheechoo-Spezza-Alfredson
Kovalev-Regin-Foligno
Michalek-Fisher-Shannon
Donovan-Kelly-Neil
The guy scored a lucky goal from behind the net and got an assist on a nice pass that Chril Neil where he happened to be the last guy other than Neil to touch the puck. The Isles still blew by Carkner on the play that resulted in him knocking the net off and he was standing beside two guys not covering either one on the second goal. He is not going to cut it. I know it's a good story but you can't have your fighter on defence, it's too important. He is big, slow, and can fight...that's it. He can't play a regular shift at this level.
Kovy and Spezz have shown some chemistry when they have been together. I think they need to try it out. Alffy can play with anyone...we know that already.
I have a feeling that getting lines that work is going to be an ongoing problem for the entire year. At least before when they tried to split up the big line they had something to fall back on, now it seems there isn't really a go-to line and there an infinite number of line combinations we could use.
michalek spezza kovalev
cheechoo regin alfredsson
foligno fisher shannon
ruutu kelly neil
First line yea they both like the puck (spezza and kovalev) but lets be honest... kovalev ruins the flow on the other lines playing with work horses like fisher, foligno he just is too lazy and doesn't fit... put him with spezza and the 2 of them will get each others offense going, michalek will start potting those breakaways... and is there worker guy to get the pucks out of the corner.
cheechoo is starting to get his stride give him the minutes, he and regin have great chemistry so far and alfredsson brings the best out in everyone...
foligno fisher shannon have proved they play well together throw them back together except this time they are playing against 3rd pairing D. Thats pretty awesome that our 2nd line last year is now our third.
4th....... good line all no there roles.
11:37 has money lines in my opinion. I'm joining the Kovy with Spez bandwagon... they always seem to find each other on the ice
Not sure if anyone can comment on this or not...but for some reason I don't think Saturday's game is on TV. I don't live in Ottawa but have Rogers Centre Ice. It's not listed as being shown. I think CBC is not covering it with their regional coverage and there is no visiting feed from Atlanta.
Please someone tell me I'm wrong.
very strange line in todays practice...
via (www.twitter.com/nhl_sens)
michalek spezza foligno
kovalev fisher alfredsson
cheechoo regin neil
shannon, ruutu, kelly, donovan, winchester......
i guess that clouston realllly doesnt want kovalev on the same line.
don't you guys think that kovalev and cheechoo should be on the same line?
i would like to see
kovalev spezza alfie
Michalek regin fisher cheechoo shannon neil
ruuto kelly donovan
they should give kovy a chance on the top line and see if michalek can find some chemistry with fisher and regin
anybody got any idea who's between the pipes tomorow?
Nice to escape with two points...but the Clouston watch is definitely on. Starting to look like he really screwed up with Heatley.
Kovy Spezz Cheechoo
Michalek Regin Alfie
Foligno Shannon Fisher
Donovan Kelly Neil
SM
12:35pm don't you guys think that kovalev and cheechoo should be on the same line?
That would be WAY too slow!
12:41pm anybody got any idea who's between the pipes tomorow?
I would have to say its Elliot, dont want to over use Leclaire.
Michalek - Spezza - Kovalev
Cheechoo - Shannon - Alfredsson
Foligno - Regin - Fisher
Ruutu - Winchester - Neil
I see "ANON the douchebag" has moved from "Brian" Murray to Clouston with his BS.
Give it a rest buddy.
#9 cannot be on the third line as it is an extreme waste, he must be in the top two...i like the first posters lines!
i think we wont need any changes if spezza can just try to gel with alfie and michalek. right now he looks just off-speed with both of them. cheechoo needs to be put on either the first or second line. alteast once to see the effect.
they need to setup kovalev better on the powerplay. he needs to be down low at the faceoff circle just like he used to be in mtl and then just let the magic happen. he really wanted the puck on that one powerplay last night and they didnt pass it to him.
but the best sens to watch over the past three games have been the grinders, the fourth line, neil, dono, ruutu, regin, cheechoo, kelly and on defense phillips and volchki are just bringing back amazing memories.
everyone else needs either to gel with their linemates or bring better effort period. second really big test coming after the thrashers game: penguins.
I like where your going with the line combo's chirp, although I think if anyone should be demoted to the 3rd line, its Kovalev.
I was at the game last night and he was absolutely terrible, just really seemed like he didn't want to be there. Then I come home and watch Sens overtime and he says the same thing in every interview how he doesn't have "prove anything" and how he plans to help the team "while he's here", don't like his attitude at all and am definetely not sold on the signing.
And I also made a point of watching Cheechoo last night and so far I've labled him as a dud but he had a really good game last night I thought and its only a matter of time before he starts scoring, unfortunately his skating still lacks big time.
Here's how I would try the lines
Foligno Spezza Alfie
Mickalek Fisher Shannon
Kovalev Regin Cheechoo
Ruutu Kelly Neil/Donovan
So many combos could work but here are few things I think need to be considered:
Spezza and Kovalev both really, really like to carry the puck. So the only way they can play on the same line is if they both are excited about the idea and one of them (I'm looking at you Spezza) turns into more of a shooter. And if that's the case they may as well play with 3 defencemen since another forward wouldn't see the puck ever.
Kovalev definitely needs a finisher. Doesn't have to be a veteran though - one of the young guys might develop into a good finisher with Kovie setting him up.
Regin needs minutes or else he won't develop - don't put him on the 4th line please.
With the depth we have, Ruutu, Neil and Kelly (and Dono/Winnie) are 4th liners on this team. Putting them elsewhere doesn't make a lot of sense.
Cheechoo probably needs to play with Spezza or Kovalev to "get going" but after last night I'm thinking he may not need to.
The good news is, we couldn't be a one line team if we tried - we have too much depth.

really makes me hate alot of our fan base, I mean really, we have a team with depth FINALLY, and they bitch and moan because the score isnt 7-4. This team IS better off without Heatley, it will take some time for the top lines to find their magic, but it will happen. I'm a very happy Sens fan especially with Leclaire. It feels so good having a #1 goalie in net.
Anon 12:41 how is the watch on? What a ridiculous statement, it's been 3 games where we're 2-1 and suddenly the heat is on Clouston. Plus it's been fairly well documented that Clouston was a very minor part of why crybaby wanted out, he was just using that as a plausible cover.
Spezza and Kovalev on the same line should only be used to punish whoever gets stuck with them as the 3rd player. That player will be doing 99% of the work while the two space cadets float around in their respective little worlds. Besides two players executing constant blind back passes would never work, eventually they would just end up back in the Ottawa zone. I would like to see what Kovalev can do with someone who can actually put the puck in the net, but other than that I think guys like Alfredsson and Michalek can produce wherever they are asked to play, while guys like Spezza, Kovalev, Fisher and Cheechoo will need the correct supporting cast.
What does it matter!!!
Sens fans are going to see that the Sens aren't as good as everyone here thinks they are after they face Atlanta and Pittsburgh...in the next couple of games...
We are going to get smoked!
Why does everyone have a big hardie for cheechoo? he's supposedly s finisher, yet he's been working hard and had good chances last two games and hasnt buried any. Leave him on the third until he decides to pot some:
Michalek-Spezza-Kovalev
Fisher-Regin-Alfredsson
Foligno-Shannon-Cheechoo
Donovan-Kelly-Neil
trade ruutu and then trade kelly once winchester is back i like kelly but we just dont need him anymore our whole farm system of forwards are that grinder type of player. he can be replaced.
Anyone see this: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=294295
Yikes...
Neil and Spezza had a skirmish at this morning's practice. Hope that rubs into energy for the game and not inside problems that we don't know of...
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=294295
I haven't seen this suggested yet, but I'd love to add the toughness, defensive responsibility, and great shot of Fisher to Spezza and Kovalev. Alfredsson and Michalek have seemed to gel better then either individually with Spezza. Regin could work out nicely with them. Then you have a good scrappy third line that also has some offensive potential.
Fisher - Spezza - Kovalev
Michalek - Regin - Alfredsson
Foligno - Shannon - Cheechoo
Ruutu/Donovan - Kelly - Neil
Winchester
Certainly not ideal, but if Shannon is out for a while you could always bump Kelly up to 3rd line and play Winchester 4th line center.

"Nice to escape with two points...but the Clouston watch is definitely on. Starting to look like he really screwed up with Heatley."
Please tell me you are joking. Are you really blaming Clouston for Heatley's departure? I think I just threw up in my mouth. Clouston is a breath of fresh, which is what all of us need after reading your last comment.
Give it up man...Clouston was trying to get the best out of his players and Dany couldn't take the heat. Players with real heart respond when they are put to a challenge, not tuck their tail and run to where it is warm and everything seems just peachy.
How many times have you seen Heatley back check to prevent a goal this year? ZERO! Although Cheech and Milan haven't scored yet, they have helped the team win by fighting for the puck at both ends of the ice. It's all about wins and losses, not about how many pucks you can fit in the net.
For San Jose's sake, they better hope Heatley keeps getting hat tricks every night because they threw all their eggs in a completely 1-dimensional basket.
I for one am excited about the makeup of our team and look forward to watching us fight for victory night in and night out!
End of rant...
GO SENS GO!!!
Neil had one good game. I guess that makes him King of the World.
at ross leave cheechoo on third because he hasnt buried any oh yeah your first line scored a lot so far eh? you are a genius
@ sensible mac,
You the man. When we had DH scored in bunches in the regular season it looked good until the playoffs. We either scored in bunches and win or lose close games. Playoffs are all about winning close games and fighting for the puck. I'd rather have a fighting team now and KNOW how to fight for the puck then to wimp out during the playoffs like when DH would do...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2oiYapD5XA&feature=related
this video is why mike fisher is on our team... he may not be worth the money, but he is a hell of a guy.
As for Spezza vs Neil - good. I'm sure this kind of thing happens at practices a lot. Neil is very intense and Spezza's not (his style - that's fine) so they probably get on each other's nerves. FINE. NOT AN ISSUE.
The way people react it's like it's the end of the world or that one of them has to be traded - give me a break.
Sometimes the media in this town drives me nuts. Funny though that it's on TSN but not the Sun - anyone know who the source is? Can't imagine anyone from TSN is actually attending practice when they're not airing the next Sens game.
To SENSPuckLuck:
So true. Dany Hot/Coldley will be praised in the shark tank for lighting up the lamp and when push comes to shove in the spring he will be pounded into mediocrity at best.
Just my two Sens worth
the line of Alfreddson - Spezza and Kovalev looked great on the PP in the third period - the puck control was mesmerizing and only a great save by Biron robbed Kovalev of a sure goal (nice pass by Spezza to set him up) - maybe that line is too soft for 5 on 5 play but Clouston should let them play for a game or two to see if their puck control style can mesh - remember Kovalev has a hell of shot and a quick release
Michalek got his break-away a game again last nite - but other than that doesn't seem to be in sync with Spezza or Alfreddson - I still think his speed is better suited to playing with Fisher and Regin (or maybe Shannon) -
oh well - the 3rd and 4th lines seem to be jelling
Karlson gets knocked off the puck too easily - but at 170 lbs that is not too surprising - it will take a couple of off-seasons for him to bulk up - is Kuba back next game? That will reduce Karlson's exposure
Carkner will be a shock to a lot of teams - hopefully Philadelphia and Boston - and Leclaire continues to be brilliant
I agree with Anynomous
I like those lines...but with one change:
Foligno-Spezza-Alfredsson
Kovalev-Regin-Cheechoo
Michalek-Fisher-Neil
Ruutu-Kelly-Donovan
I don't want to kick Shannon out of the line-up, but if Donovan and Neil can continue to bring forechecking and energy, I would put them ahead of him, and save him for injury-replacement for the scorers.
I agree that Cheechoo and Kovalev should be given a chance together.
Power-play should look like this:
Foligno-Spezza-Cheechoo
Alfredson-Karlsson
Michalek-Fisher-Kovalev
Kuba-Campoli
This is a good team...better than last year
They need time to adjust to each other.
Kovy and Spezza should not play together i think its important to get Alphy on a line with Kovalev because alphy can finish and set him up which is what he needs, it looks like kovy is bored out there which i understand from his point of view.
Michalek Spezza Cheechoo
Alphy Regin Kovalev
Fisher Shannon foligno
Ruutu Kelly Neil/Donovan
Make it happen!
Cheechoo impressed me for the first time last night with that inside-out move that he put on in the 3rd period. For a guy that was supposed to just stand in front of the net and bang away rebound goals, he sure does have some slick moves. Hopefully that's a sign of things to come.
I'd also like to see Kovalev and Cheechoo paired up. Kovalev have feathered some beautiful passes... he just needs someone to bury those opportunities.
Éric
Michaluk-Carkner-Spezza
Alfredson-Carkner-Kovalev
Cheechoo-Carkner-Foligno
Neil-Carkner-Regin
Ditka-Ditka
Ditka-Ditka
Ditka-Ditka
Thanks for the hat trick boys.
Personally I wouldnt change anything yet, BUT here is what my lines would be and what I thought they always should have been.
Alfie-Spez-Cheech
Michalek-Regin/Fisher-Kovalev
Foligno-Regin/Fisher-Shannon
Neil-Kelly-Dono/Ruutu
Everyone is driving me crazy with all the line suggestions. Chemistry and gelling is overrated. Clouston has got it under control. The lines change during the game anyways.
urgh, the game against atlanta won't be on TV at all, i hate how this happens like twice a year. what a JOKE.
Anonymous said...
Nice to escape with two points...but the Clouston watch is definitely on. Starting to look like he really screwed up with Heatley.
Can we PLEASE get rid of anonymous??? Have some sort of IP screening system so people have one account...anything to stop people from posting garbage just for the sake of writting something.
Anyone looking too much into the Neil/Spezza thing hasn't played sports at any significant level. EVERY sport I have played has had mix ups with teammates. It is not a big deal, and 99% of the time you are laughing about it before the end of practice etc.
I think a running theme this season is chemistry with Regin...Everyone seems to have some, I would love to see him get some top level minutes.
Cheechoo has to pocket one soon, hopefully Saturday is his night. He has shown improvement every game so far.
Sorry Sacul...
I've changed my mind.
I'd like to cement Foligno-Fisher-Neil and Ruutu-Kelly-Donovan as our bottom six.
And try out these lines for the top 6.
Michalek-Spezza-Alfredsson
Kovalev-Regin-Cheechoo
FYI TSN just reported Alfi and Foligno were switched lines for the pratice.
Hey Chirp, is the game on tv tomorrow night?
Thanks
TOsensfan
As for the Atlanta game on TV, Lee Versage said ont he radio at noon that there is absolutely no local or Center ice coverage of the game.
The only option seems to be if it is aired in Atlanta and someone rebroadcasts it on the web.
Yes, let's get rid of everyone tcharger disagrees with...Clouston could have handled Heatley better - unless he was taking direction from above.
I can't believe the game isn't on TV...what a joke...sat night and no SENS game!! I pay too much for centre ice for them not to air games!!!! ANGREY!!!
to gargo:
Clouston didn't handle Dany Lukewarmley much differently than Hartsburg did towards the end. Are you suggesting that Heatley deserved more responsibility according to the way he was playing last year?
In your opinion, how could he have handled Heatley better?
Also, getting rid of the Anonymous option would just enable us to know where certain comments are coming from. I understand tcharger's frustration completely!
Anonymous 3:26 PM said...
"I agree with Anynomous"
And which Anynomous is it that you agree with? ;)
We can still afford to give the current lines a bit more time, what with our 2-1 record and being 3 games into the season...
Still though, the lines from the first poster would be the best alternative:
Kovalev - Spezza - Alfredsson
Michalek - Regin - Fisher
Foligno - Shannon -Cheechoo
Ruutu - Kelly - Neil
Donavon can substitute Cheechoo if his performance doesn't get any better and I would keep him on the third line and Neil on the fourth.
Anon @ 11:44 AM:
Take a hike! Seriously, you contribute absolutely nothing to this site. This may come as a shock to you but your opinion is not the be-all-end-all when it comes to hockey players. I'm sure you're probably one of the same trolls who were saying the Senators were doomed after ONE game into the season. You're a joke (like the Leafs). Get lost before you embarass yourself even more.
@ gargo:
You're a tool. Get lost!
Clouston had little to nothing to do with Heatley wanting to leave....Heatley used that excuse as a scape goat.
All I can say it thank you for completely ommitting Winchester from the discussion - send him to the A.
some of you ppl should be ashamed of yourselfs!!!!! go cheer for pittsburg or toronto, ill continue cheering for my sens who last game looked amazing!!!i mean honestly ppl , even when the islanders tied it , did it ever look like we were going to loose?????no it didnt , after they tied it up they couldnt even touch the puck and at 1 point when i saw michalek and fisher skating together it was absolutely beautiful!!! both were up and down the boards , passing was perfect and nooobody could touch them....i look forward to seeing them together later on in the season....cheechoo was very important last night so stop bashing him right now please....our goalie?dont even get me started on his pure awesomeness he displayed for us last night....only player that was a little bit "off" was kovy but towards the end he was looking pretty dam good so just stop with all your hatred for this team, weve won some grimey gamnes here but you know wat? we won!! the grime worked and will continue to work, our pk is pretty darn good, and our goalie is a beast!!! what more do you want ppl?were not gonna win 82 games at 6-1 a peice!!! go cheer for a different team cuz your negativitey is not wanted here!!!!!
EXCELLRENT EXECUTION ON CARKNERS PART
-GO SENS GOOOOO!!!!!!
Gargo - can you elaborate? How should he have handled Heatley better? Sucked up to him? Bent to his wishes? Let him do whatever he wants? I'd like to know what you would have done.
From what we know, Clouston asked Heatley to back-check and be harder on the puck. What coach wouldn't? Now I admit Clouston is still a little green and I also admit that some players will play for some coaches and not for others, but it seems like Clouston had EVERYONE buying in except Dany. Alfie, Phillips, Fisher ... even Spezza was buying in. But Dany wouldn't and when he tried to get other players to side with him he was basically told to suck it up and be a man. He wanted out because nobody on the team would take his side against he coach.
The guy isn't worth 70 goals, let alone 50.
Center ice, Nhl network and TSN2... All that money wasted just to see Sens games and we don't even get to watch the game on a Sat night... CBC can't even air a stupid hockey game, they think everyone wants to watch the leafs.
heatley nailed someone's daughter and was gonna get killed if he didnt leave town
can someone please tell me where I can watch the game tonight....center ice doesnt have it, complete joke
I agree with Mat's lines.
No game on?! Saturday night and no effin game! And hockey experts wonder why hockey is dying in this country. Just rediculous! Team1200 it is then...while i watch the leafs pens game here in Shitronto...lets hope the pens crush them 20 to 0!!! Isnt this a home game? Sens org needs to create Sens TV where they can have cams at the game like LeafsTV...come on Melnyk, Punch It!!! Gahhh...Pissed!

@mat, it might be because i am german that i dont get your comment about cheechoo, so u think donovan could substitute him and u still keep him on the third and what the fuck, doesnt make any sense. plus cheechoo is performing better every game and he deserves to be on the top 6 if he keeps up the good work. sometimes i think some of u guys are just bashing cheechoo because he looks good and your mom want him instead of you in her basement. well life sucks for u guys. i love the sens and they will do great . and if not who cares there is more important things in life. cheers
Hax essentially has it bang on
So if Clouston having asked for his players to play hockey should have been handled differently, I suppose you are right....he could have done it differently, hell maybe he should have told him to go play some Golf?? Tennis?? you know, individual sports.
Hax, to varying degrees: Yes, yes, and yes. But, if Clouston was following orders to come down hard on Heatley - and i suspect that was the case - then the blame lies elsewhere.
Why are we discussing Heatley. He is gone so forget about him. Let's move on.
My opinion, when the going got tough -- he quit on the team and his teammates.
From what I understand about hockey and other sports -- coaches - coach and players - play -- that means all of them. Heatley was part of a team -- but did not want to do what it took to help change how the team was performing after almost two years of bad coaching and non-structured play.
A hard working team in the regular season -- usually helps them when playoff time begins...
Free wheeling teams who win easily in the regular season.. sometimes have trouble in the playoffs when close checking and hard work make you successful. Ex last couple of seasons with SJ Sharks -- dominate team in regular season winning easily, but could not compete when it really counted.
What kind of team will the Sens have this year? Hopefully one that has to complete hard every game and for every win. That's builds character which this team has been lacking for the last couple of seasons.
I'll keep cheering regardless as I'm a Sens fan -- and proud of it.
Well Gargo, I disagree. I coached for 10+ years and while you do have to "handle" some players, you can't let them get away without working hard. Especially when they are supposed to be professionals.
While you might be right in that Murray might have said to Clouston something like "look, I can't fire another coach - so you better put your foot down here" I don't think Clouston did anything he didn't want to do and I don't think he did anything wrong. If Dany didn't want to give 100% then let him sit. If he didn't want to sit then let him go. Simple as that.
But agreed - let's stop talking about Dany. I officially destroyed my old Heatley jersey at the home opener as a sign to move on.
I sure with the Shit-izen would lose their stupid "heatley watch" BS too - Ottawa media sucks!
Hax, amen, the media in this city is an embarrassment to 90% of Sens fans.
Too bad this game isn't on TV, should be good. Atlanta is off to a good start, and I would have liked to see Elliot play (apparently getting his first start tonight).
complete bullshit this game isnt televised!! I'm so pissed off now
can we watch the game on line tonite? does anyone have a post?
