500th Post at SensChirp

Let me start this post by congratulating former Ottawa Senator Brian McGrattan on recording the Gordie Howe hat trick last night. Grats has been through a lot over the past couple years and really it couldn't happen to a nicer guy!

Tonight, the Ottawa Senators head into Montreal to take on the Canadiens in what will be the much anticipated return of Alex Kovalev. I'll actually be live blogging tonight's game for The Score. Stop by at the link below to participate!

http://liveblogs.thescore.com/Event/NHL_-_Senators_vs_Canadiens2

When this website started over a year ago, I never thought I would be sitting here writing out my 500th post. On May 20, 2008, when I sat down to write the first entry on this website I remember thinking to myself, "Is anyone even going to read this stuff?"

Now here we are 499 posts later and people continue to come back. The readers here at SensChirp have been incredibly loyal and are the reason this site still exists. On multiple occasions I've thought about shutting it down but the positive feedback from you guys has kept it going.

500 posts...

Thanks to anyone who has stopped by to read one of those 500 posts along the way. In particular I'd like to thank all the regulars who continue to come back and post in the comment thread and have made this one of the better places on the Internet to talk Senators hockey.

So heres to 500 posts made and to the 500 more to come!

Thanks everyone

I started reading your blog last summer during the Heatley affair. I got hooked, each morning I would check SC first for any details and still do today. I appoligize for writing this as an anon, because they usually irritate me, I just wanted to say keep up the good work.

Hey SC,

I guess you can thank Dany the douche for a good chunk of those blogs... Nevertheless, congrats on establishing and maintaining THE best Sens forum out there. This is proven by the fact that other blog site owners regularly post on here.

BTW, isn't it customary to divulge your real name and occupation on the 500th?

GO SENS!

The only thing that makes me want to than Heatley for is getting me hooked on this site! Congrats SC!

Gratz Senschirp, I've read each and every one of those 500 posts over the past two years, and through it all you've had the best most informative source for Sens-related news second to none.

Keep up the awesome work, and I'm looking forward to the next 500 :)

As someone who rarely posts but reads every day, I want to thank Chirp and all of the regulars for contributing. Whenever I'm stressed out about something, I know I can come here to relax for a few minutes and discuss our team.

Thanks for the all the work you do Chirp!

@ Condor, you were the first post and instead of offering congrats on such a great site and a milestone, you chose to ask a dumb question. You put the ass in class Condor! Stay off this site, its better without you.

"not to be a sour-puss but how do you get from 295 that is written in the right side navigation to you 500? Are you counting updates?!?"

you should perhaps take note of the "2009" that is right next to 295, so that means THIS year, and if you look down in 2008 there was 204. so add them together and you have 499...ta da!

D-MAN said...

No, Thank you Chirp

Engin said...

Guy,

I'm thinking that you looked at the number of posts that SC has posted this year (2009). Lets not forget that this blog was created in May 2008. So if you added the number of posts from last year and this year you get the number 500.

Anonymous said...

To Guy,

295 is in 2009 iff you check a little lower you will see that in 2008 he made 204 post for a total of 499

Congrats Senschirp keep up the good work.

Go Sens Go

Anonymous said...

@Guy...

Archives have 295 posts for 2009
2008 has 204 posts
Therefore there are 499 archived posts.

This post plus the 499 arcived posts equals 200 posts.

And on that note - Thanks for all the work SensChirp and thanks for giving Sens fans the best site around to come to.

Anonymous said...

Guy, did you bother to scroll down and see he had 204 posts in 2008...

Mat said...

Hey Guy: 295 is for 2009. If you scroll down a bit, you will see that there were 204 in 2008 and this post is 500th.

That's 2 minutes for unnecessary nit picking. Go to the mall...

Matt said...

@ Guy

The 295 posts is representative of the posts he made in 2009. If you scroll down a little further you will see an additional 204 posts made in 2008.

Anonymous said...

I've started being a regular at your site the past three months, and I really enjoy reading your posts and others' comments. Keep up the excellent work!

Guy said...

Opps. me bad - didn't see that 295 was for this year only.

Sorry about that!

Congrats your at 500 posts. Keep up the great work.

CBC had Toronto's game in 'true' HD and not Ottawa's. They say it's HD but the difference from the french station RDS (or Toronto's game which was televised nationally) were so different. Clearer and crispier image on RDS. Why can't we have the CBC give us 'true' HD in Ottawa?

skaught said...

Thanks Chirp! I can't remember how long I have been reading but it's been a while. Always good! Well done.

Also good to hear Grats is playing well. Heard him on the Team in July and it was a great interview.

Anonymous said...

Sorry, I can't help myself: from Sharks blog:

"The Sharks had two power play goals against the Islanders and both came after McLellan did some shuffling of his special teams, taking Dany Heatley off the top unit and inserting Patrick Marleau in his place.

“The familiarity of Seto, Joe and Patty settled our power play down,” McLellan said. “We’ve been using Dany Heatley there a lot, but for a little while now we’ll probably go with that group. They were very effective last year and we’ll probably continue to use them.

OK, I know what some of you may be thinking. But let’s not go there yet."

Tee hee

There's no denying his role has been diminished.

I have a question

I am a new Ottawa Senators fan I moved to Ottawa from Montreal 5 years ago, the Senators are a very exciting team to watch, but one thing that upsets me is the lack of excitement you get from form the broadcasters like this guy Cole they had last night I get the feeling he did not want to be there ? another game I was watching they talked about a hockey helmet for over half the game “when the game was in play” not sure how it all works do the Senators have a say in witch broadcaster works on any giving night? Who can we can complain to ? is it because we have a smaller market they give us people that do not really want to work the Sens?

Anonymous said...

The problem with the broadcast that you watched was because Bob Cole is a die-hard (and almost senile now) Leafs fan.. Him, Harry Neale, and the guys at TSN are as well..

Next time you watch a broadcast on Rogerts Sportsnet, you'll notice a difference. Dean Brown, Garry Galley, and Ian Mendes are all Senators fans.

justin.hick said...

Bob Cole is a Toronto man through and through. Not sure why he was doing the Sens/Habs game. I guess CBC wanted to try and show balance? Or Bobby just wanted to see a more exciting game.

I find TSN the worst for non-excitement. They seem to cheer for whatever team is playing against the Sens. If you want to good ol' Sens-biased announcing, tune into Team1200 on the radio while wacthing the game.

SENSPuckLuck said...

Congrats SC! The best Sens community site. Thanks SC.

SENSPuckLuck said...

@Anon 7:36 PM,

Most will shut off the sound on the CBC broadcast and tune in to the Team 1200 for Dean and Gord. Can't stand the CBC clowns...

Anonymous said...

team 1200, I will dune in next game thank you all.

Anonymous said...

To Anon @ 7:36

The "helmet thing" was during a Dean Brown broadcast but that's only because it was being promoted by Mario Lemieux. Dean's too classy to have cut Mario off and Mario didn't clue in that it was a game and not a commercial. He didn't know when to shut up...

It was not typical and you can expect better.

As an added bonus, Dean Brown is famous for his utterly bizarre and sometimes funny asides that add a unique flavour to all Senators broadcasts.
