Jason Williams a Senator

The Ottawa Senators should soon announce the signing of forward Jason Williams. Williams spent last season with the Chicago Blackhawks. In 43 games, Williams had 13 goals and 23 assists. Speculation is that it may be a three year deal. No confirmation on this yet.

Let the speculation begin regarding the future of Antoine Vermette.

**The Brendan Bell deal has been officially announced. It is a one year/two way deal.

What are your sources on this one? No one else is talking about this. Just curious....

Nicely done JC. I am pretty curious to see the terms of the deal. Great work again.

Actually, K.Lee has it as well..
As far as reputable sources are concerned: JC is all you need, buddy.

Good signing as long as it's not for too many $$$. I'd hate to lose Vermette since Williams is glass.

On a side note, am I the only one that finds the white text and black background burns into the back of your brain?

Spectacular pickup!

Sens just signed Brendan Bell. No sign of Williams so far (it is mentioned by Kevin Lee on hockeybuzz, but he probably read it here)

I love the Williams signing if it's for a reasonable salary. He's worth the gamble and based on his points per game could easily fit on the top line. That being said we STILL need Vermette and I think this may scare him into taking a deal for around 3M per but that's just my opinion.

Can't we just have Williams, Vermette and Fisher on our top 6?

Woo HOO...Awesome pickup!!!

Hey JC

Kevin Lee at Hockeybuzz has on his report that "Sens are close to trading Neil"

Have you heard anything on this?

Yep, it would be extremely interesting to know if you've heard anything about being close to trading Neil.

A Chris Neil trade would not surprise me in the least. Since the signing of Ruutu there has been plenty of speculation regarding the role of Chris Neil with the Senators.

I actually think that trading Neil now is a mistake. His value is at an all-time low right now...

waiting for this forever
again u were the first to report out of my 5 sites i watch and we still need vermette. that mean Mezaros is traded for a Puck moving D-man?? and by the way jc how much cap space do we have now??

Anonymous said...

I would rather the Sens move McAmmond then Neil. If Neil is moved, who's going to fight?

Great job as always JC.

Anonymous said...

and also KLEE saying Neil close to be traded.enough cap space to re sign Vermette??

Anonymous said...

i think Mez is staying, Murray wants Mez to play with Smith

Vermette might no be a Sen anymore, and Neil isnt needed anymore

Anonymous said...

I like the Williams signing BUT only (a) if it is not at the expense of Vermette, and (b) the $ is reasonable (less than $2.5M cap hit)

Hey JC...Nothing on TSN, Sportsnet or the Team 1200....Is it possible you may have made a mistake?

This leaves too many things dangling.

This might be the beginning of a big trade.

Anonymous said...

i found out about how much cap space we have and its 9,773,504 million without Williams,Vermette, and Mezaros.Any word on how much Williams? was. id say 2 million leaves us with over 7 million and if Murray wants 2 million free space leaves us with just over 5 mil trade neil for prospect or pick gives us around 6.3 million to resign Mezaros and Vermette. 3 mil for each i like it

I think it is safe to say that Willimas has signed for less than Stillman. Otherwise Murray would have simply resigned Stillman imo...

Williams puts up good numbers... A sports hernia in the last 3 years doesn't exactly translate into being injury prone...

This is a good add, which definitely makes me think Verms is tradebait for a puck-moving defenseman...

Still waiting for confirmation on the Williams signing.

If we can keep Vermette and Mez as well as this signing, we're starting to look better and better!! Go Sens!!

Hey fellahs, why do you guys call him JC when the site is Sens Chirp? If anything, you should call him SC, right?

It's the username (JoseCuervo) he uses to post in the Sportsnet forums.

Is it a done deal or what?

Dale Sanger said...

We call him JC, because his nick name on another message board is

Anonymous said...

Can they announce signings during the weekend?

Anonymous said...

Well I think it is huge, over the roster limit and you are forgetting Winchester, that Carkner is on a 2way deal and that Nycholat is on a 1 way deal on the final year of his contract.

SBP said...

Hey anonymous, you forgot about Jesse Winchester.

Looks like we have too many forwards, but I don't want to see Neil go. If anything, I think he'll want to rebound from last year's sub-par performance. It's his first bad year, I'd give him a chance. Plus it'd be weird to see him not wearing a Sens uniform, I like him.

Dale Sanger said...

Hey JC

Any more info on this?

Is it 100% done deal?

Well you did break the Winchester signing a few days before it became official :D

Anonymous said...

I'm a bit confused. I wikipedia-ed Jason Williams, and it said he currently plays for the Ottawa Senators. I then was looking at a list of Senators (on wikipedia), and it said JUSTIN Williams currently plays for Ottawa. Is this just an over-zealous fan changing without thinking? I also can find nothing about Jason Williams signing with Ottawa.

Anonymous said...

yea its official 3 years 1.9 now be announced in the morining and Vermette has asked to be traded according to KLee
I love Vermette..Murray just give him a long term contract we have money as long as its under 3 mil a year and Neil is gone

Quassie said...

Kevin Lee is reporting it as a 3 year deal worth 1.9 mil per season. He also has Vermette requesting a trade now though which I hope isn't true. Unless there is something big coming in return.

Good job reporting the signing first!

Anonymous said...

Nice job ACE....better double check your sources a little better next time assclown.

Williams to ATL for 1 year....your numbers were not even correct....lol

hahahahahahahahahahaha

by guessing you sometimes look smart by being the first to break something... other times you just look like an ass
